Selena Gomez Shares Self-Care Strategies Amid Mental Health Challenges

Posted: 01 Feb 2022 12:58 AM PST

Selena Gomez is opening up about her personal experience with mental health issues and using it to educate and help others who may be going through their own struggles. The 29-year-old singer and actress has launched, alongside co-founders Daniella Pierson and her mother Mandy Teefey, a mental health platform called Wondermind, which is “a space to work it all out every day with candid conversations, physical tools, daily content, and a supportive community,” according to the site’s homepage.

In addition, Gomez has been advocating for mental health awareness by talking candidly about her own challenges. See the details below.

Physical And Mental Health Issues

Over the years, the former child actress and Disney alum has battled health issues, both physical and mental. She was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus in 2014 and went through chemotherapy for it in 2015. In 2017, she experienced kidney failure because of her lupus, which led to a transplant.

Gomez has also opened up about her struggles with depression, anxiety and panic attacks. She sought mental health treatment after her lupus diagnosis. And in 2020, she revealed she had bipolar disorder.

Call Someone

With all of her experiences, Gomez certainly knows what she’s talking about when it comes to mental health. In a Q&A with fans in late 2021, the Lose You to Love Me singer was asked how she takes care of herself amid her challenges and she shared three strategies.

“Sometimes I’m not good at it. Like, it just happens where I’ll wake up and I just, I struggle, you know, maybe sometimes it’s just getting out of bed,” she said. “What helps me first and foremost, just picking up the phone and calling someone.”

Knowledge

Next, Gomez stressed the importance of self-awareness and how being in touch with your actions and emotions can help you manage your response.

“I constantly try to fill myself with knowledge of what it is that I’m feeling and triggers that happen to me,” she said. “So I think what really helps me understand myself a bit more is that I can, you know, take a step back and think of all the tools I’ve learned and try to implement them in my everyday life. That’s usually what helps me.”

Workout

Finally, the Wizards of Waverly Place star recommends exercise. She continued the Q&A, “I suggest working out. I hate working out, it is not fun, but I’ve been doing like intense boxing classes recently, and it has really helped me get a lot of frustration but also just energy out, and it feels so good.”

This last recommendation is backed by science, too. According to Self, citing a 2018 study that was published in Lancet Psychiatry, “[P]eople who exercise regularly reported 43% fewer days per month with poor mental health—meaning issues with stress or depressed feelings—than those who don’t work out.”

NBA Rumors: Warriors Could Land Donovan Mitchell For James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga & Moses Moody

Posted: 31 Jan 2022 09:22 PM PST

The Golden State Warriors are one of the teams that are currently in a strong position to engage in a blockbuster deal. With a plethora of interesting trade assets, the Warriors could come up with an intriguing offer should a legitimate superstar become available on the trade market. Warriors general manager Bob Myers may be currently against the idea of trading their young players, but things are expected to dramatically change if they fail to win the NBA championship title in the 2021-22 NBA season.

Warriors Considered As Potential Landing Spot For Donovan Mitchell

If they fall short of achieving their main goal, the Warriors are expected to be more aggressive in improving their roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in the 2022 NBA offseason. One of the most intriguing trade targets for the Warriors this summer is All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz. In an article, James Piercey of Fansided's The J Notes named the Warriors as a potential landing spot for Mitchell should he and the Jazz decide to part ways after the season.

Mitchell may be currently focused on helping the Jazz capture the Larry O'Brien Trophy this year but if they suffer another huge disappointment, there are growing speculations that he would strongly consider leaving Utah for a big-market team.

Potential Warriors' Trade Package For Donovan Mitchell

Targeting a player of Mitchell's caliber would certainly require the Warriors to pay the king's ransom. According to Piercey, the Warriors could offer a trade package that includes James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody to convince the Jazz to send Mitchell to Golden State.

"On the other hand, a core group of Jonathan Kuminga, James Wiseman and Moses Moody would give the Jazz a headstart on a suddenly needed rebuild," Piercey wrote. "Furthermore, the Jazzmen own their 2023 first-round pick. Bottoming out next year may give them a crack at Victor Wembenyama, Scooter Henderson or another prospect in what’s widely regarded as a stacked 2023 NBA draft."

Warriors Form Three-Headed Monster In Their Backcourt

After being recently linked to superstar guards like Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards, it won't really be a surprise if the Warriors decide to pursue Mitchell in the 2022 NBA offseason. Despite having the "Splash Brothers," the Warriors seem open to the idea of running a lineup featuring three guards.

It would still take time for Mitchell to familiarize himself with Coach Steve Kerr's system but once he builds great chemistry with Curry and Thompson, the Warriors could form a three-headed monster in their backcourt next season.

Jazz Prepare For 'Full-Blown Doomsday Scenario'

The proposed blockbuster trade with the Warriors would make a lot of sense for the Jazz if they immediately decide to take a different route after losing Mitchell. As Piercey noted, the Warriors' suggested offer for Mitchell would enable the Jazz to prepare for the "full-blown doomsday scenario." After sending Mitchell to Golden State for Wiseman, Kuminga, and Moody, the Jazz could trade Rudy Gobert and other veterans next and focus on the development of their young players.

NBA Rumors: Proposed Blockbuster Sends Anthony Davis To Hawks For Four Players & Three Draft Picks

Posted: 31 Jan 2022 09:16 PM PST

The Atlanta Hawks entered the 2021-22 NBA season with the goal of fully dominating the Eastern Conference and winning the 2022 NBA championship title. Unfortunately, the Hawks struggled earlier this season and failed to live up to expectations from the team that is ready to dethrone the reigning NBA champions, Milwaukee Bucks. The Hawks may be finally starting to learn how to consistently win games, but most people believe that they need more star power around Trae Young to have a realistic chance of capturing the Larry O'Brien Trophy this year.

Anthony Davis To Atlanta Hawks

One of the dream trade targets for the Hawks is All-Star power forward Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers. In a recent article, Kenneth Teape of NBA Analysis Network came up with a hypothetical blockbuster trade idea that would enable the Hawks to acquire Davis from the Lakers before the 2022 NBA trade deadline. In the proposed trade scenario, the Hawks would be sending a package that includes De'Andre Hunter, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Onyeka Okongwu, Delon Wright, a 2022 first-round pick, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2026 first-round pick to the Lakers in exchange for Davis, Kendrick Nunn, and DeAndre Jordan.

Anthony Davis' On-Court Impact On Hawks

Giving up all those assets for Davis should be a no-brainer for the Hawks, especially if they are serious about contending for the NBA championship title in the 2021-22 NBA season. Davis may have gone through plenty of ups and downs earlier this season, but he remains one of the best two-way contributors in the league. His potential arrival in Atlanta won't only make them more dangerous on the offensive end, but it would also help them improve their defensive efficiency that currently ranks 27th in the league, allowing 111.2 points per 100 possessions.

Davis would give the Hawks a very reliable second-scoring option next to Young, a monster rebounder, a quality rim protector, and a decent floor spacer. This season, he's averaging 23.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and 1.2 steals while shooting 52.4 percent from the field.

Lakers Get Rebuilding Assets

The proposed blockbuster deal with the Hawks would make sense for the Lakers in a way that it would help them prepare for their life after LeBron James retires. Aside from acquiring three future draft assets, the Lakers would also be adding two young and promising players who could be part of their long-term future.

"Heading to Hollywood is a nice combination of high-upside young players and veterans to keep competitive," Teape wrote. "De’Andre Hunter was technically selected by the Lakers in 2019, but the draft pick used to select him was sent to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Davis deal and then re-routed to Atlanta. He, along with Onyeka Okongwu, provide the Lakers with two immensely talented building blocks for the future alongside Talen Horton-Tucker."

Proposed Trade Has Minimal Chance Of Happening

No matter how intriguing the Hawks' offer is, it's highly unlikely that the Lakers would consider such a trade scenario before the 2022 NBA trade deadline. Davis may have struggled earlier this season but as of now, the Lakers haven't shown any indication that they are planning to make him available on the trade market. Though they are currently out of the playoff race, the Lakers are still focused on reaching the NBA Finals and reclaiming their throne this year.

Also, if ever they decide to move Davis, it would only be in a deal that would allow them to build a more competitive roster around James.
