Kaia Gerber On Education & Being A Role Model

Among Kaia Gerber's many passions, books are a top priority. Already one of the world's most successful models at just 20-years-old, the Calvin Klein face, who recently broke into acting with a role in Ryan Murphy's wildly popular series American Horror Story, is also an avid reader.

Daughter of legendary supermodel Cindy Crawford, Kaia would often "bring books backstage to shows," admitting in a recent interview that "some people would act surprised, which I always found interesting."

Delving deeper into her intellectual pursuits, the June/July Vogue cover star shared how she's furthered her education during the pandemic and used her social media platform to get people into literature.

With 7.2 million followers on Instagram and deeply aware of the responsibility that comes with so much visibility, Kaia, who's never been fond of the term "influencer," also opened up about how she feels being regarded as a role model.

Here's what she had to say.

Dreaming About College

Starting work in her early teens, the catwalk sensation -- who booked her first gig at age of 10 with Versace's junior line, Young Versace, and was already shooting for Italian Vogue with Steven Meisel at 13 -- has always been conscientious about her studies. Traveling around the world for modeling gigs as a young teen, Kaia remained focused on school, switching to an online course load at Malibu High once after her career kicked into high gear.

"I was one of those kids in preschool who thought they'd go to Columbia one day," Kaia shared in her Vogue cover story.

While she's still dreaming about college, the model -- who a few years back said she'd love to major in psychology -- knows it's never too late.

"I can always go," she said. "I have no problem with being a 50-year-old in college."

Book Club

Meanwhile, Kaia is using her love for reading to soak up knowledge and further her education. The model even started her own online book club during the pandemic, inviting fellow bookworms to join in on literary discussions over on Instagram Live.

Prepared with gripping titles by authors ranging from Lena Dunham to Jonah Freud, she's also brought in interesting guests, including writer Jia Tolentino, novelist Raven Leilani, and Normal People actor Daisy Edgar-Jones. What started out as a hobby has since led Kaia to be identified by the New York Times as part of a wave of "fresh-faced mega-influencers using Instagram to share literary life with millions of eyeballs," notes Vogue.

Learning About Politics

The Los Angeles native, who moved to New York after high school and quickly became familiar with all the bookstores -- McNally Jackson Books is her "home away from home," she gushed on Instagram in March -- has recently begun educating herself about contemporary politics.

"In the past, I stayed away from getting political because I didn't want to speak about things I wasn't knowledgeable about. But this year, I really had an opportunity to learn," said Kaia, who attended Black Lives Matter protests last summer and has featured books such as Jeremy O. Harris's Slave Play and Ta-Nehisi Coates's Between the World and Me on her book club.

Role Model

As for her role model status with many young girls who admire her and want to be like her, Kaia takes it very seriously while also striving to be authentically herself.

"I want moms to be happy that their daughters look up to me, but being a real role model means also being a real human," said the supermodel, who's not interested in seeming perfect.

Her stance hasn't changed much since a 2017 interview with Teen Vogue when a not-yet-16 Kaia was telling the magazine: "My parents have always taught me to be myself and to follow my instincts."

The then-teenager, whose own role model at the time was Karlie Kloss -- "She's broken all the rules of what a model should be and uses her platform to benefit others," raved Kaia -- expressed her very mature views on the topic, which still echo in her latest interview.

"It is so key to me to be a good role model for young girls and someone their mom would want them to look up to," she told Teen Vogue. "I now reach so many people, and it's hard for them to know what is real. I don't take any platform I have lightly. It's so important to send a good message."

Her Efforts Are Seen

Talking to Vogue, designer Stella McCartney, who's the daughter of Beatles' Sir Paul McCartney and has worked closely with Kaia, spoke admiringly about the model's constant drive for self-improvement.

"Kaia wants to better herself through reading and through being part of a community. And she wraps all of those responsibilities up in a way that still makes young girls want to be like her," she said. "I think the thing about Kaia is she understands her privilege, the access to influence through her platforms, and her voice as a young woman. She doesn't shy away from that responsibility, but embraces it."

Likewise, Harris, who's become friends with Kaia, sang her praises to Vogue.

"When I met her, I saw someone so curious and excited about learning, about not always looking like the smartest person in the room, about complicating her understanding of her own socioeconomic and racial positioning," he said. "She's decided to be an autodidact in public, and it's really admirable because when you do that, you risk potential failure."

Ghislaine Maxwell Trial: Pilot Confirms Trump, Clinton Flew On Lolita Express

American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein allegedly killed himself in 2019 while being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City.

At the time, Epstein faced charges for sex trafficking of minors, but his death led to charges being dropped, spurring widespread public outrage.

However, in 2020, U.S. authorities zeroed in on Epstein's long-time associate Ghislaine Maxwell, charging her with the crimes of enticement of minors and sex trafficking of underage girls.

With Maxwell's trial ongoing in Manhattan, here's the latest update.

Lolita Express Pilot

Lawrence Paul Visoski Jr, a pilot who flew Epstein's infamous Lolita Express -- a Boeing 727 -- for nearly 30 years, testified at Maxwell's trial this week.

As Newsweek reported, Viskoski explained that he piloted Epstein's planes for roughly 1,000 trips between 1991 and 2019.

Viskoski said that he never personally saw any sexual activity on Lolita Express, but he talked about the plane's passengers.

In fact, the pilot named around a dozen high-profile figures, including former presidents, Hollywood stars, musicians, politicians, and members of the British royal family.

Who Flew On Lolita Express?

Here's who flew on Epstein's Lolita Express, according to Viskoski: former President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton, actor Kevin Spacey, comedian Chris Tucker, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, member of the British royal family Prince Andrew, lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Violinist Itzhak Perlman, former Sen. John Glenn, and former Senate majority leader George Mitchell.

Viskoski also said that he often flew Epstein's famous and influential guests to the financier's private Caribbean island, Little St. James, where sexual abuse of minors allegedly occurred.

"It was a regular destination," he told the court.

Trump's Relationship With Epstein

Trump and Epstein were seen and photographed together on numerous occasions -- the former president reportedly even had the convicted sex offender fly on his private jet.

Trump also knew Maxwell, and when news broke that she is being prosecuted, he wished her well.

"I've met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach and I guess they lived in Palm Beach. But I wish her well, whatever it is. I don't know the situation with Prince Andrew, I just don't know. Not aware of it," Trump said at the time.

Clinton's Relationship With Epstein

Clinton and Epstein were also seen together many times over the years, and several photographs of the two men have circulated on the world wide web for years.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Epstein visited the Clinton White House at least 17 times during the Democrat's first term, between 1993 and 1995.

Visitor logs obtained by the paper show that Epstein was invited to the White House by Clinton's closest aides and advisers.

Despite apparently flying on the Lolita Express, Clinton maintains that he knew "nothing about the terrible crimes" Epstein was involved in.

Selena Gomez Delivers A Classy Clapback To A Nosy Fan

Drama always seems to find Selena Gomez even when she's lying low. This time, it takes the form of a nosy troll disguised as a fan, but the Grammy nominee said, not today. In her usual goofy manner, Selena posted a duet with Dr. Dawn Bantell's viral TikTok video about drinking alcohol. The actress and musician makes funny faces in reaction to Dr. Dawn's claims in the post. The good doctor talks about the CDC's definition of heavy drinking for women (8 or more drinks per week) and men (15 or more drinks per week.)

What's The Big Deal?

Let's double back a bit for a background on this situation. If you didn't know, Selena has an autoimmune condition called Lupus. She got her first diagnosis in 2014 and quietly battled with the health issue.

By 2017, the Lupus escalated and affected her Kidney, causing her to need a transplant. Though the then 25-year-old entertainer said she didn't want to ask anyone for such a huge favor, she got help. Her friend Francia Raisa (Grown-ish) pictured above offered help since she was a donor match. The sacrifice saved Gomez's life, giving her a second chance.

It’s A Joke

Selena, who adds "It's a joke," as a caption to her duet, seemingly disagrees with Dr. Dawn. One troll disapproves while fans comment on her goofiness, lauding her sense of humor. She says, "So one of your friends gives you her Kidney and you continue to drink excessively. Damn Selena."

Like the queen she is, Selena claps back with, "It was a joke ass." She may not have needed to because her 34 million TikTok Selenators swarmed in defending her. They agreed the "Lose You To Love Me" singer was kidding, and the troll would've known if they weren't quick to judge. The troll has since deleted the comment, consequently erasing Gomez's clap back.

Gomez Doesn’t Even Drink (Except On Occasion)

Selena set the record straight on her drinking habits. The artist doesn't drink alcohol, even around friends. She says she'd often opt-out and choose an alternative.

True Selenators would've known that piece of information, further proving the commenter was a troll in disguise. Even if Selena did drink alcohol, experts say it wouldn't affect her Kidney, as the troll implied, and excess alcohol consumption affects the liver instead.

Moving On

With the amount of drama Selena has endured in her career, she's mastered the art of moving on. In a recent Instagram post, she celebrates her first-ever Grammy nomination for her Latin album Revelación. Also, her new Hulu series Only Murders In The Building renews for a second season.

Kaia Gerber caught mega likes while arching her back in stretchy and black Calvin Klein underwear earlier this year. The 20-year-old model and daughter to Cindy Crawford has been making headlines for upping her brand profile - alongside fronting Marc Jacobs' Daisy fragrance, the Celine face is also repping American fashion giant Calvin Klein.

Kaia updated her Instagram back in March while stripped down to sporty undies for CK, with a #mycalvins seeing her join other CK faces including Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner.

Scroll for the photos. Kaia snagged over 450,000 likes for a series of three photos. All showed the ex to Pete Davidson posing in apparel from Calvin Klein - the opening shot showed Kaia arching her back and flaunting her super-toned frame while against a neutral accent wall. While street outings from Kaia have increased as lock-down eases - the star recently split from boyfriend Jacob Elordi - some aspects of her life have been very non-supermodel over COVID.

"I think I'm in the same boat as everyone— I'm living in sweatpants and workout clothes," she told Elle. "I think we all feel very connected because we're all going through this together. The world feels less pressure to get dressed in the morning, which I think is a good thing. Being able to feel confident in sweatpants is one of the greatest gifts."

Joining the likes of book club hosts Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey, Kaia upped her BC game last year. She continued:

Georgia Boy Accidentally Kills Sister With Ghost Gun

Pretty much anyone with internet access and a bit of creativity can can make a homemade firearm. Also known as ghost guns, these weapons are usually made with parts sold online and do not have serial numbers, which makes them untraceable.

The parts are so easily accessible that a 13-year-old boy from Douglasville -- which is about 20 miles west of Atlanta, Georgia -- was able to build and sell guns from his home.

But this resulted in a tragic accident, with the boy accidentally shooting his sister to death. Read more below.

Attempted Robbery

On Saturday, as Douglas County Sheriff Tim Pounds explained, two individuals arrived at the boy's home to purchase one of his ghost guns.

But they refused to pay, according to The New York Post. The boy then opened fire -- with one of his ghost guns -- to prevent the theft.

However, he accidentally shot his sister, who has been identified as 14-year-old Kyra Scott.

The boy has admitted to the shooting and was charged with felony murder. One of the two buyers has been arrested and charged with robbery and felony murder.

After realizing Kyra was shot, people at the home tried to take her to a hospital. They stopped at a gas station, where they were met by medical and police personnel.

The 14-year-old was then transferred to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

"It's so sad … because the mother's losing two kids at one time. [The boy was] selling those weapons on the streets of Douglas County, Carroll County, Atlanta -- everywhere," Pounds said, noting that police are still searching for the second would-be buyer.

'We Must Do Better'

District Attorney Dalia Racine said in a statement that "this loss is absolutely senseless, and many are grappling to understand how this could happen."

"Kyra Scott, by all accounts, was a beautiful and kind soul, and nothing that is done in this case will bring her back. The cost of losing our children is simply too high of a price to pay, and we must do better. And we as a community are going to do better."

Racine added that her department will review the sheriff's investigation once it's completed.

Ghost Guns

As CNN reported, the use of ghost guns has been on the rise in cities across the nation.

According to criminal defense lawyer Page Pate, ghost guns are widely accessible due to legal loopholes.

"Under federal law the part for a firearm is not a firearm, and federal law only regulates firearms," Page explained, adding that "a lot of parents would be surprised to learn that their kids can go online and buy the parts to a gun they can then make themselves."

"We talked about someone else directing, but then I was dreaming about it, having ideas all the time. It's in my bones, this story. I'm like, 'Is this too soon?' But it's happening. I'm gonna do it," she was quoted as saying - but the intro to that merely informed fans that "the project hasn't been announced yet, and she's wary of even talking about it."

Last month, Kendall made the news for celebrating hitting 200 million Instagram followers. Now, the E! star is leveraging that fanbase for even more $$$ - of course, the following figure has risen since. Check it out below.

Having bought her $1.4 million starter home around the same time her first Spiderman movie came out, Zendaya, then 20-years-old, has since upgraded to a magnificent manor fit for a Disney princess.

While the Emmy award-winning lead of Euphoria, now 25, absolutely adored her first house -- a 4,155-square-foot Mediterranean-style mansion in Northridge, Los Angeles -- her current residence is an absolute... Marvel.

Also located in California's San Fernando Valley, the gorgeous ranch-style Encino estate set her back a whopping $4 million in 2019, although the deal only made the papers in April 2020.

Secluded Hilltop Property

Concealed from prying eyes by beautiful palm trees and lush greenery, the lovely hilltop estate sits on a four-acre lot with stunning views all around. Encompassing a sprawling 1939-built main house and a large guesthouse, the expansive compound also has a massive open pool and a spectacular backyard (pictured above) straight out of a California dream.

Spanning six bedrooms and seven bathrooms within 5,133 square feet of living space, the mansion is quite a move up from the five-bedroom, five-bathroom Northridge house that Zendaya used to share with her dog, Noon.

While it may not compare to the winding grand staircase Zendaya enjoyed in her nearby Northridge home, the relatively modest feature takes no attention away from the exquisite hardwood floors and high ceilings, with a gorgeous fireplace taking center stage.

With recessed lighting and massive glass French doors generously letting in the California sun, the lounge room's main attraction is a brick fireplace painted white to match the walls and eight-foot ceiling. The same features carry through the rest of the sunshine-filled home, which has maintained its charm despite the extensive renovations over the past eight decades since it was built.

Like all of the rooms on the first, the huge kitchen opens up to the backyard via massive doors overlooking palm trees. Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons is currently one of the hottest commodities on the trade market. Despite his shooting woes, the former No. 1 pick continues to receive strong interest from aspiring contenders that are in dire need of additional star power and rebuilding teams that want to speed up their timeline.

As of now, the Sixers' asking price for Simmons remains the same. To acquire the disgruntled superstar, the Sixers have told interested teams that they would be needing to come up with an offer that includes an All-Star.

Ben Simmons To Denver Nuggets

One of the newest landing spots for Simmons before the 2022 NBA trade deadline is the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets are currently facing a huge dilemma in the 2021-22 NBA season. Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets may have somehow found a way to win games while Jamal Murray is on the sideline, but things are expected to be more difficult now that Michael Porter Jr. is also out with a back injury.

If they are still serious about fully dominating the Western Conference and winning the NBA championship title, Jack Dougherty of Sportscating believes that the Nuggets should strongly consider the idea of trading for Simmons.

Proposed Nuggets-Sixers Trade

According to Dougherty, the Nuggets could acquire Simmons by offering the Sixers a trade package centered on Murray. Though he's still recovering from an injury, Murray perfectly fits the description of the player that the Sixers want in exchange for Simmons.

"As for the 76ers, they haven't had a go-to guard who can take over a game and take pressure off Joel Embiid's shoulders late in games," Dougherty wrote. "Murray could instantly become that guy. Philadelphia also has the luxury of being able to wait until Murray is healthy enough to return to the court."

Ben Simmons Could Fill MPJ's Spot In Denver

The successful acquisition of Simmons would allow the Nuggets to immediately fill the hole left by Porter Jr. at the starting power forward position.

"With Porter now out for the season, the Nuggets could be on the hunt for a long, defensive-minded forward to fill his spot," Dougherty wrote. "Simmons is technically a point guard, sure, but he's nearly seven feet tall and weighs 240 pounds. He could fill Porter's spot in the starting lineup and immediately change Denver's defensive identity for the better."

Ben Simmons Starts A New Journey In Denver

Simmons won't have his own team in Denver since the Nuggets currently have Jokic as the face of the franchise. However, having a fresh start in the Mile High City would help him regain his confidence and return to the right path to becoming a legitimate superstar in the league.

It would still take time for Simmons to familiarize himself with Coach Michael Malone's system but once he meshes well with Jokic, Aaron Gordon, Will Barton, and Montes Morris, the Nuggets could regain their status as a legitimate title contender in the Western Conference.
