Getting Festive! How Celebs Celebrated Christmas 2021 Posted: 26 Dec 2021 11:00 AM PST 'Tis the season! It's no surprise that stars love to celebrate Christmas just like Us. From cooking with their families to wearing matching pajamas, celebrities embrace the joy of the holiday season and share photos from the festivities when December 25 rolls around. Prior to Christmas, Jana Kramer got real about marking the holiday for the first time since her divorce from Mike Caussin. (The duo — who share daughter Jolie, 5, and son Jace, 3 — split in April after nearly six years of marriage and finalized their divorce in July.) "I wanted to start a whole new tradition since this year's the first one making new traditions [since my divorce]," the actress, 38, exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. "So, I decided to put a tree in the master as well because trees just make me smile." Kramer noted that she wanted to include her children in the creation of new traditions. "What I'm looking forward to the most this Christmas is just making new memories with my kids. Enjoying every single minute and being truly blessed that it's us three. And we're happy and healthy," she continued. "We're also going to make some cookies because that was always a tradition growing up with my mom too." The One Tree Hill alum told Us in November that she was not ready to scrap all of the customs that she and Caussin, 34, had with the kids. "I'm looking forward to it, but I'm scared of it too," she explained at the time. "I want to do some of the same things that we've always done with the kids, which is, like, they [bake] cookies and decorate the tree together and open one gift on Christmas Eve." All in all, Kramer — who spent Thanksgiving apart from her children as they celebrated with the former football player — knew the holidays would be difficult for her post-divorce. "I can honestly barely talk about it without getting emotional," she confessed. "It's going to be rough." As for Reese Witherspoon, she revealed her one Christmas wish during her Wednesday, December 22, appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. "We're just doing the regular stuff. We're gonna be with my mom and hanging out with the whole family. Oh yeah, we dress up," she shared. "Trying to get all the family members in one picture is really my goal for the year." Witherspoon, 45, then quipped: "All I want for Christmas is all my kids in one photo. Smiling. Hopefully, smiling." Did Pete Davidson’s Mom Attend the Kardashians’ Christmas Eve Party? Posted: 26 Dec 2021 08:13 AM PST ![]() It's safe to say Pete Davidson is officially keeping up with the Kardashians. Kim Kardashian's comedian beau’s mom was rumored to have attended the family's annual Christmas Eve party on Friday, December 24. While the 28-year-old Saturday Night Live star was not pictured at the festive gathering, eagle-eyed fans speculated that his mom, Amy Davidson, might have made the coveted guest list. The 41-year-old Skims mogul’s sister Khloé Kardashian posted an Instagram gallery of her silver party dress on Friday, and several fans thought they saw Amy, 52, in the background of one of the snaps. Social media users started flooding the 37-year-old Revenge Body host’s comments, discussing the merry party’s special guests. “IS AMY DAVIDSON (PETE'S MOM) W/ THE KARJENNER'S ON XMAS EVE !?,” an Instagram user speculated, as several other fans agreed. While the reality TV stars have not confirmed the final guest list for their soiree, other social media followers weighed in that the woman in question was either wedding planner Mindy Weiss or the Kardashians’ cousin Cici Bussey. The KKW Beauty CEO has been linked to Davidson since late October, the same month she hosted SNL. The romance came 10 months after she filed for divorce from Kanye West, with whom she shares daughters North, 8, and Chicago, 3, and sons Saint, 6, and Psalm, 2. Amid the 44-year-old rapper's public pleas to get Kardashian back in recent months, the reality star filed a petition to be declared legally single on December 10. ![]() "Kim knows Kanye is a good person and respects him. She was surprised by his comments about wanting to get back together," an insider told Us earlier this month, adding that Davidson "is not worried about Kanye trying to get back with Kim" as "he's very laid-back and understanding." The source added, "Pete's mom really likes Kim and thinks she's very sweet. Kim and Pete are still having fun, but things are really heating up." Prior to the Christmas Eve bash, Kardashian was spotted in Davidson's native Staten Island for a movie date on Saturday, December 18. Another source subsequently told Us that she's "loving" spending time in his neck of the woods because it's "more low-key than L.A." The twosome were also spotted in New York City earlier this week. "Kim and Pete are in the infatuation phase," a third source told Us. "They have so much fun with each other, he makes her laugh and they're having fun right now.” The Kardashian-Jenner family has been holding their annual Christmas Eve party for decades, with Kris Jenner handing over the hosting duties to her kids in 2018. "Our Christmas Eve party was always this fun party that I just remember being friends and family and my grandparents and cousins. It was just the best night ever," Kim said in a KUWTK confessional in 2019. "But my mom's been doing it for so long that it's turned into something different. It's kind of a party just for my mom and mostly her friends. We want it to be a place that we can just have fun and it's all of our friends and definitely family and my mom's friends, too. But a good mix of both so we can have a good time and really just enjoy each other." |
Time to ‘Reflect’! Tayshia Adams Takes Solo Trip After Zac Clark Split Posted: 26 Dec 2021 07:04 AM PST ![]() Taking it all in. Nearly one month after Tayshia Adams and fiancé Zac Clark called it quits on their engagement, she is taking her first post-split holiday in stride. "Beautiful, serene morning. Merry Christmas, everyone," the former Bachelorette season 16 star, 31, said via Instagram Story on Saturday, December 25, while standing on an empty beach in Laguna Beach, California. "And, it's honestly raining. It's full-on raining, right now. It's so magical." The ABC series cohost wore a cozy fleece-lined jacket and a red beanie, captioning her Story slide, "Merry Christmas to you & yours." ![]() In a second caption, she opened up about how she was feeling in the moment, writing, "No better place to give gratitude, pray & reflect." Hours earlier, the California native was all smiles as she spent Christmas Eve with her family — laughing alongside her brothers. Nearly one month earlier, the former phlebotomist and the New Jersey native, 37, ended their engagement nearly one year after their proposal aired in December 2020. The duo, who first met on season 16 of the ABC series, "couldn't fully commit to each other," a source previously told Us Weekly in November. "They eventually realized it wasn't going to work and their relationship ran its course," the insider added, noting that they hadn't begun wedding planning. "It's going to be a hard breakup for the two of them." Weeks after their split, the Bachelor in Paradise alum admitted she was "heartbroken" amid the breakup when she and Kaitlyn Bristowe cohosted season 18’s Men Tell All special. "Tayshia, that day, was beside herself. I'm so proud of her for being so professional and being able to show up and put a smile on her face and do a great job hosting while going through it," Bristowe, 36, recalled on Us Weekly's "Here for the Right Reasons" podcast earlier this month. "I know she was just really struggling that day because the news had broke, and she was really upset." Adams, for her part, wasn't completely ready to discuss her public breakup shortly after filming the MTA special, in which she walked off the stage to collect her thoughts. "I really said all I had to say on that stage," the lifestyle influencer explained on the December 7 episode of the "Bachelor Happy Hour" podcast. "I don't really have anything to add to it just because I'm still going through it all. And yeah, I spoke my peace. And one day, when I feel like I have more to say, I'm sure we can talk about it all." Adams continued, "It was just very heavy, but I had a job to do at the same time, and so I'm really happy I was able to be surrounded by all of you guys and be supported by that. But it doesn't make any of that easier." |
Splits! Engagements! The Biggest Kardashian-Jenner Moments of 2021 Posted: 26 Dec 2021 07:00 AM PST Can’t stop keeping up! The Kardashian-Jenner family stayed booked and busy throughout 2021, sharing their highs and lows with the world, from breakups to engagements. The year started with a jaw-dropping divorce as Kim Kardashian ended her six-year marriage to Kanye West. Before news broke of their split, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the duo had a “big fight” that left the Skims CEO feeling “done” with the relationship. “Kanye blew up at Kim and she was really upset,” the insider noted at the time, adding that things between the pair seemingly never “healed” after the argument. As Keeping Up With the Kardashians came to an end, Kim broke her silence on the struggles she was facing at home. “I just honestly can’t do this anymore,” she said during a June episode. “Why am I still in this place where I’m stuck for years? Like, he goes and moves to a different state every year. I have to be, like, together so I can raise the kids. He’s an amazing dad, he’s done an amazing job.” The reality star believed West “deserves someone who will support his every move and go follow him all over the place and move to Wyoming,” which wasn’t something she was willing to do. “I feel like a f–king failure,” she said. “It’s my third f–king marriage. Yeah, I feel like a f–king loser. But I can’t even think about that. I want to be happy.” The Yeezy designer, however, made it clear that he wasn’t giving up on his marriage, frequently attempting to get Kim back throughout the year. A source told Us in December 2021 that the California native was “surprised” by West’s comments, but she didn’t see a way to salvage the relationship. Kim wasn’t the only family member whose love life made headlines in 2021. Her sister Kourtney Kardashian caught fans’ attention with her and Travis Barker‘s PDA-filled romance before they got engaged in the fall. The Poosh founder’s relatives gushed over the romantic proposal, which took place on a beach in Malibu in October 2021. “Congratulations to the most beautiful, adorable, affectionate, fabulous, made for each other couple in the world!” Kris Jenner captioned an Instagram slideshow at the time. “Love you guys!!!!!” Kourtney and the musician continued to give fans glimpses of their life together, from red carpet appearances to family getaways with their kids. (The E! personality shares Mason, Penelope and Reign with ex Scott Disick, while Barker shares son Landon and daughter Alabama with ex-wife Shanna Moakler.) Scroll down for a recap of the year’s most memorable Kardashian-Jenner moments: ![]() The couple lovingly referred to as Kimye called it quits at the beginning of the year, with the makeup mogul filing for divorce in February. Both parties requested to share joint legal and physical custody of their four children: North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm. By December, Kim requested to be declared legally single and to restore her last name, claiming in court docs that her marriage was “irremediably broken.” West, however, made multiple attempts to win his estranged wife back, even dropping her name during a December benefit concert. The public plea came shortly after Kim confirmed her romance with Pete Davidson. (The musician, for his part, was briefly linked to Irina Shayk.) Evan Agostini/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() The Kylie Cosmetics founder confirmed in September that she was expecting another child with Travis Scott, weeks after multiple sources revealed the pregnancy news to Us. “She has always wanted another kid close to [her daughter] Stormi’s age,” one insider noted. Another source told Us the duo, who welcomed Stormi in 2018, were thrilled to be expanding their family, adding, “The baby has absolutely brought them even closer together.” BeautifulSignaureIG/Shutterstock ![]() Us confirmed in January that the longtime friends had taken their relationship to the next level, and nine months later, the drummer popped the question. The milestone was captured on camera, with a source adding, “Travis spent forever getting the details right. Kourtney was very surprised at the timing. They both have talked about their wedding and engagement before but Kourtney was very surprised.” Ciao Pix/Shutterstock ![]() After they got back together in the summer of 2020, Us confirmed in June that the on-off couple called it quits once again. The pair, who share daughter True, wanted to “remain amicable toward each other and will continue to coparent,” a source revealed at the time. Six months later, however, things became messy as Maralee Nichols sued the NBA player for child support, claiming he fathered her son. An insider later told Us that Thompson told Khloé about the child himself as news of the paternity suit made headlines. Image Press Agency/NurPhoto/Shutterstock; MEGA ![]() The Talentless cofounder’s feelings toward his ex and the Blink-182 drummer raised eyebrows in September as Kourtney’s former flame Younes Bendjima exposed alleged Instagram DMs from Disick slamming the couple’s major PDA. The New York native was “definitely embarrassed” his comments went viral, a source told Us in September 2021, adding, “He DMed him when he was in a heated moment and was just looking for him to react the same way being that they both dated Kourtney.” Shortly after the drama made headlines, Disick split from then-girlfriend Amelia Gray Hamlin. Kcr/Shutterstock; Vianney Le Caer/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() Scott and some of the Kardashian-Jenner family sparked backlash after an incident at the rapper’s Astroworld Festival caused the deaths of 10 audience members. Kendall and Kylie both shared footage from the November 2021 concert via social media, causing fans to wonder why they didn’t publicly respond to the tragedy sooner. Scott, for his part, claimed the following month that he “didn’t know the exact details” of the situation until he got off the stage. Amy Harris/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() The Strong Looks Better Naked author previously battled the coronavirus in early 2020, and revealed in October 2021 that she contracted the illness once again, along with her daughter. “Luckily I have been vaccinated so all will be ok. We will be over here in quarantine and following current guidelines,” Khloé tweeted at the time. Courtesy Khloe Kardashian/Instagram ![]() In May 2021, the model was criticized by fans for allegedly appropriating Mexican culture in an ad for her 818 Tequila, which featured her riding a horse and wearing braided pigtails. “What an incredible experience I have had thus far, learning about this beautiful place, it's beautiful culture, and the beautiful people!” she shared via Instagram at the time as social media users pointed out the stereotypical representation of indigenous communities. (She did not respond to the backlash, but she went on to disable comments on her Instagram page.) The controversy followed Kendall’s now-infamous 2017 Pepsi commercial, which many believed mocked the Black Lives Matter movement. Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock |
Jon and Ygritte Forever! Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s Relationship Timeline Posted: 26 Dec 2021 06:02 AM PST Love on the set! Kit Harington and Rose Leslie met while filming season 2 of Game of Thrones in 2011. While Harington starred as Jon Show in the HBO hit, Leslie made several appearances as Ygritte during seasons 2 to 4. While the actress' character was killed off in 2014, the twosome had begun an offscreen romance. After briefly calling it quits in 2013, Us Weekly broke the news that Harington and Leslie were back on in the summer of 2014. The Pompeii star later spoke candidly about falling for his costar in an interview with Vogue Italia. "Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love," Harington gushed in May 2016. "If you're already attracted to someone and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love." Five years into their romance, the How to Train Your Dragon voice actor got down on one knee and proposed to his longtime love. While Leslie accepted, Harington revealed during an October 2017 interview that he fumbled the big moment. "I did have some plans to do it, I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff …" he told British TV host Jonathan Ross. "But we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine, and I blew my load early. … Sorry, that's a really bad expression!" "I was meant to do it the day after with the lights. What I meant to say was, I popped my question a bit early," Harington clarified. "Not blew my load." The twosome exchanged vows in June 2018. Three months later, Harington gushed about his wife backstage at the 2018 Emmy Awards. "I met my wife in this show, so in that way it gave me my future family, and my life from here on in," he said in September 2018. "That's the main thing it did for me, and it's changed it completely." Us confirmed in February 2021 that the lovebirds expanded their family, welcoming a baby boy five months after Leslie revealed she was pregnant. In Love! Bachelor Nation Couples Celebrate Their 1st Christmases Together Posted: 25 Dec 2021 02:00 PM PST Love and Christmas! After several Bachelor Nation stars found love on the ABC franchise this year, many have geared up for a special holiday season with their newfound partners. "Santa brought my Christmas present a little early this year After the elementary school teacher, 28, and the Canada native, 27, got their photos taken with Saint Nick, the pair had a low-key celebration in her hometown of Minneapolis. "We've got the boys, we got their cup-cups," Young shared Instagram Story footage on Saturday of her fiancé feeding their dogs, Percy and Chief, in the car before they took the pups for a walk around town. Shortly after the Bradley University alum accepted a proposal from the Texas resident during the Tuesday, December 21, season finale, the pair gushed about their future plans and starting a life together. "We're thinking summertime," Olukoya exclusively told Us Weekly after the finale aired. "In the near future, we'll put it that way." While they've already begun wedding plans, the former Bachelorette contestant revealed during After the Final Rose that he was set to move to his love's Minnesota in a few months and that they've started house hunting. "We are tired, but excited, running on adrenaline, just really happy that we can be out in the open. Just do, like, the smallest things, like, I think we're both really excited to walk through the airport together," Michelle told Us. "That's been something that's crossing my mind. We can finally get to do that today." Amy Duggar Tests Positive for COVID-19 During Christmas Holiday Posted: 25 Dec 2021 12:50 PM PST A belated Christmas celebration. Amy King (née Duggar) has tested positive for COVID-19, shortly before her family was set to celebrate the festive December holiday. "Christmas is cancelled here until further notice. .. ![]() Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar's niece further detailed her symptoms in her social media post, "I don't have fever but the body aches and chills are terrible. My mom and Daxxy [son Daxton, whom she shares with Dillon] are doing great and I can hear Elf playing downstairs She continued: "Definitely not the Christmas I thought we would be having, but I'll be posting our Christmas in January. … Found out that Delta Airlines cancelled 200 flights due to Omicron and that's the airline we flew on from our Atlanta trip." The 3130 clothing boutique owner revealed that none of their family holiday plans were completed due to their COVID quarantines, including wrapping presents and taking a family portrait. "We are separated from each other but life is still good and there's so much to smile about," Amy wrote. "And even though I'm trapped for 10 days I'll use this time to grow closer to the Lord, see some blockbuster hits and rest. I'm so thankful for mom for taking care of our little guy— we love you so much!! until we are better Merry MERRY Christmas! #KingCovidChristmas."
Jill Dillard (née Duggar) took to Instagram comment to share her positive wishes for her cousin's speedy recovery, writing, "Oh no! So sorry you're sick! As Amy quarantined on Friday, she further explained her developing symptoms in a series of Instagram Story videos, noting that she later had a fever and chills. "I just wanted to say have a merry, merry Christmas and I pray that it's a peaceful one and a healthy one for you and your family," the Arkansas native concluded her social media video at the time. "Cheers." She followed up on her Christmas wishes on Saturday, December 25, writing via Instagram Story, "Merry Christmas to you! From this greasy hair-COVID girl who wears her shirt inside out and hasn't showered in days!" The former country singer — who is the only child of Terry Jordan and Deanna Duggar, Jim Bob's sister — is known as the rebellious cousin of the Counting On siblings since she didn't adhere to many of the same conservative guidelines as her relatives. "I would probably ditch my chaperone," Amy once told her 56-year-old uncle during an early episode of the TLC series about her views on courtship. "You don't want me to be [your kids'] chaperone. I will pretty much let them do whatever. Come on now! I'm pretty sure you and Aunt Michelle were not like that when you were younger. I'm pretty sure they kissed before they were married." |

Olivia Munn and John Mulaney's Relationship Timeline Posted: 25 Dec 2021 10:31 AM PST A surprise connection! John Mulaney and Olivia Munn kicked their romance into high gear after his split from his wife of six years, Anna Marie Tendler, in May 2021. "I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” Tendler said in a statement confirming the duo’s split at the time. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.” Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the comedian later told Us Weekly, “John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.” That same month, Us confirmed that the comedian was dating Munn. The New Girl alum, for her part, was previously linked to Bryan Greenberg and Chris Pine before dating Aaron Rodgers for three years. They called it quits in April 2017. Munn previously talked about being a fan of Mulaney during a January 2015 conversation with HuffPost Live. “We were at a wedding together and I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, do you and your fiancée want to go have dinner or something and go hang out?'” the actress recalled at the time. “At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like, ‘So, you having fun?’ I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him.” Though Munn and Mulaney kept the early days of their relationship private, the Predator star has opened up about her thoughts on marriage before. “I never have ever been that girl [who dreamed about her wedding],” she shared during an April 2020 interview on the “Big Ticket With Marc Malkin” podcast. “And I’ll hear about friends who have, and I’ve just never been the person that’s like, 'Oh, I can’t wait to get married. This is what it’s going to be like, what my ring would be.’ … The idea of getting married has always made me a little [nervous].” After the couple were photographed on a date together in Los Angeles in June 2021, a source told Us that Munn was “on cloud nine” as the twosome grow closer and that the former Saturday Night Live writer felt the same way. “John thinks Olivia is really smart and she makes him laugh too,” the source added. Scroll down to see how Munn and Mulaney’s relationship has grown: ![]() Munn reflected on meeting Mulaney and Tendler at an event, joking that "he never emailed back" when she tried to keep in touch with him. "Then in the spring I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia,” he said in September 2021. "And we're having a baby together. I was nervous when I was about to say the news!" As the comedian reflected on his eventful year, he mentioned how this new chapter of his life would only be that much better. "Olivia and this baby have helped save me from myself in this early journey out of recovery," he added at the time. Lloyd Bishop/NBC; Inset: Anthony Harvey/Shutterstock ![]() Three days after Mulaney’s reveal, Munn told Access that she was feeling “good” ahead of their baby’s arrival. “Just the outpouring of love and support has been really amazing,” she gushed. "There has been a really big mom tribe that comes up. I’ve heard about it, but they really come up in full force. There’s a really great dad tribe too, everyone comes up is really supportive and it means so much to me.” Shutterstock (2) ![]() Not long after his public declaration of love for Munn, a source told Us in October 2021 that the twosome’s romance has been “imperfect” since the start. “Even though Olivia’s going to be a wonderful mother and has great support behind her, Olivia’s friends just don’t see these two being a couple in a year’s time,” the source said. “Olivia and John still have to decide what kind of future they’re going to have together, if any. It’s a time of uncertainty, for both of them.” Another insider added that the same month that Mulaney is a “work in progress” as Munn focuses on motherhood. “Becoming a mom was always more important to her than settling down in a conventional way,” the second source said. “She's a real feminist and doesn't need a man by her side 24/7. She never has.” Shutterstock (2) ![]() News broke that Munn gave birth to their first child in November 2021. Shutterstock (2) ![]() “Meet Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney. He has his whole life ahead of him. The duo were first linked in early 2019, with the Emily in Paris star making the romance Instagram official that August. Just over one year later, Mary Steenburgen's son popped the question. "It was kind of one of those situations where I knew the second that I met him that I wanted to be his wife one day and so it was just a matter of when, really," Collins gushed during an appearance on Live With Kelly & Ryan in October 2020, one month after announcing her engagement. "He did a self-timer video, which we were then able to then later get screen grabs. But he set the whole thing up without me knowing, obviously. … I was very, very surprised by it, but it's exactly what I would've wanted, and he knew me so well." Two years before she began dating the director, the Mirror, Mirror actress opened up about how her parents — Phil Collins and Jill Tavelman — impacted her perspective on relationships. "I find that I'm really attracted to mysterious creatives, and I love people that are able to put their emotions out there for not just the world to see, but just that are giving of their emotions, but a little bit mysterious and elusive as well," she dished on The Talk in 2017. "And my mom is such a strong independent strong-willed woman and she always taught me to accept my worth for how I viewed myself and female empowerment, and it's OK to be independent and also need someone at the same time. I kinda get to be both." The Okja star and McDowell tied the knot in September 2021 at Dunton Hot Springs in Colorado. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Lisa Barlow: A Day in My Life Posted: 25 Dec 2021 10:00 AM PST Doing things her way! Lisa Barlow has paved her own path as a businesswoman, a reality star, a mother and more. Not long after the premiere of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, the Bravo star, 47, explained exclusively to Us Weekly during a November 2020 episode of the "Getting Real With the Housewives" podcast that she considers herself to be "Mormon 2.0" since she "doesn't check off all the boxes." "When you think about Mormonism, there's, like, a laundry list of things [you] don't ever do, which basically makes you perfect, and I am far from that, but so we just found Mormon religion in general is a choice," she elaborated at the time. "But for me, I'm like, you know what, I'm still an individual. I'm not like everybody else. So why would we all check off the same boxes? So I'm just doing Mormonism my way." Barlow added that the Mormon community in Salt Lake City loves that the franchise is in the area. "I think everyone in Utah wants to be on the show," she said. "I think some people might start coming back to church again when they figure out they can be Mormon 2.0." Despite her modern stance on the religion, the TV personality's costar Heather Gay told Us in December 2020 that Barlow is the best Mormon in the cast because "she defends it vehemently." However, she also quipped, "We're all the worst Mormons." Barlow then agreed that she was the best Mormon in the group "even though I'm 2.0." The entrepreneur discussed her decision to be forthcoming about her faith in November 2020. "I think the biggest thing for me is I'm authentic to myself," she told the Today show at the time. "I love the religion I choose — religion is a choice — and I choose to be LDS. And for me, I think it's important that — that's a part of my life and I'm on TV and I committed to sharing my life, and that's a big part of it. So I'm completely comfortable with it. If someone else is uncomfortable, I can't really do anything about that. I'm very comfortable with it." In addition to her reality TV and business ventures, Barlow is the mother of sons Jack and Henry, whom she shares with husband John Barlow. While her career keeps her busy, she always makes time for her kids. Want to see Barlow's day in action? Keep scrolling through the photos below to discover how she spends her time. ![]() The founder of LUXE Marketing and VIDA tequila admits she’s “not a sleeper” and is usually up by 5:30 a.m. “I grab my keys and head out of the house,” says Barlow. “Poly headphones make it easier for me to take my conference calls from the car.” Courtesy of Lisa Barlow ![]() “Our days are usually packed with phone calls, so I catch up with my assistant to map out the rest of the day, then scroll through Instagram to check for daily design inspiration,” she shares. “I try to stay ahead of the trends.” Courtesy of Lisa Barlow ![]() After picking up sons Henry and Jack from school and sports practice, Barlow gets ready for the night. “I’m lucky I have a glam team I can trust,” she gushes. Queen Elizabeth II Honors Late Prince Philip in Christmas Address Posted: 25 Dec 2021 09:19 AM PST While Queen Elizabeth II's Christmas celebration may have looked different from years past, one tradition endured — her annual Christmas Day televised speech. “Although it's a time of great happiness and good cheer for many, Christmas can be hard for those who have lost loved ones. This year, especially, I understand why,” Elizabeth, 95, explained in her annual broadcast, which aired on Saturday, December 25. “But for me, in the months since the death of my beloved Philip, I have drawn great comfort from the warmth and affection of the many tributes to his life and work – from around the country, the Commonwealth and the world.” She continued: “His sense of service, intellectual curiosity and capacity to squeeze fun out of any situation – were all irrepressible. That mischievous, enquiring twinkle was as bright at the end as when I first set eyes on him. But life, of course, consists of final partings as well as first meetings; and as much as I and my family miss him, I know he would want us to enjoy Christmas.” As the queen paid tribute to the late royal’s legacy, she noted how the holidays wouldn’t be the same without his joyful presence. “And for me and my family, even with one familiar laugh missing this year, there will be joy in Christmas, as we have the chance to reminisce, and see anew the wonder of the festive season through the eyes of our young children, of whom we were delighted to welcome four more this year,” the queen said. She further honored her late spouse with her sartorial choices, donning the same sapphire chrysanthemum brooch that she wore during her honeymoon with Philip in 1947. The queen also sat beside a photo from the pair’s 70th wedding anniversary in 2007. Us Weekly confirmed earlier this month that the queen would not travel to Sandringham House for the merry holiday, instead she's staying at Windsor Castle for a small gathering of her family members. Prince William, Duchess Kate, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward all gathered alongside her to celebrate. However, daughter Princess Anne was notably absent after her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. During last year's festive holiday, the sovereign spent the occasion at Windsor Castle with late husband Prince Philip — who died in April at age 99 — amid the country's lockdown. "Having considered all the appropriate advice, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have decided that this year they will spend Christmas quietly in Windsor," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed in December 2020. While the married couple had a low-key celebration, she used her annual broadcast to share hopeful messages for the coming year. "Every year we herald the coming of Christmas by turning on the lights. And light does more than create a festive mood —light brings hope," the queen shared in her speech last year. "Remarkably, a year that has necessarily kept people apart has, in many ways, brought us closer. Across the Commonwealth, my family and I have been inspired by stories of people volunteering in their communities, helping those in need. In the United Kingdom and around the world, people have risen magnificently to the challenges of the year, and I am so proud and moved by this quiet, indomitable spirit. To our young people in particular I say thank you for the part you have played." She added at the time: "Of course, for many, this time of year will be tinged with sadness: some mourning the loss of those dear to them, and others missing friends and family-members distanced for safety, when all they'd really want for Christmas is a simple hug or a squeeze of the hand. If you are among them, you are not alone, and let me assure you of my thoughts and prayers. … It is in that spirit that I wish you a very happy Christmas." The royal family has plenty of special Christmas traditions, including a gathering at Sandringham, a lunchtime party and a walk to church that morning. |
Feeling Festive! How Celebrity Newlyweds Spent Their 1st Christmas Posted: 25 Dec 2021 08:58 AM PST Spending the holidays together! Christmastime is best spent with loved ones, and some of our favorite newly-married celebrity couples enjoyed the most wonderful time of year together for the first time ever. Heidi Klum, for one, secretly tied the knot with her husband, Tom Kaulitz, in February 2019 before saying "I do" in a second more lavish ceremony held in Italy that August. The happy couple kicked off their Christmas celebrations early, as seen in a photo posted by the supermodel to Instagram that December. The duo were joined by her husband's twin brother, Bill Kaulitz, and her four children, Helene, Henry, Johan and Lou, 10. Months earlier, Klum told Us Weekly and other reporters in September that things were "so far, so good" between her children and the musician, who noted that he believed that everything was "working out pretty good." Hilary Duff, for her part, likely had her most joyous Christmas yet in 2019, considering the Younger actress wed husband Matthew Koma in an intimate backyard wedding on December 21 of that year. The "So Yesterday" singer, 32, shared a glimpse into the newlyweds’ first Christmas as a married couple several days later. She posted a photo to Instagram of the couple with their daughter Banks, 14 months, and her 7-year-old son, Luca, who she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie. Haylie Duff, the Lizzie McGuire star's big sister, previously dished exclusively to Us about what the holidays are like in the Duff family household. "We have a tradition called caviar Christmas, which is where everybody brings a little tin of caviar, from expensive ones to cheap ones, and we mark how much they are on the bottom and then we take the lids off and turn it upside down so that you can't see and everybody tries it," Haylie said in December 2017. "It ends up that we always pick the middle of the line or the cheap caviar as the best one. It's a fun little party tradition that we've done for the last few years." The Napoleon Dynamite actress also revealed that their family "tend to have an open-door policy," and they often "end up having a straggler or two." Several months after Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young tied the knot in October 2021, the reality TV stars debuted a first look at their matching Christmas pajamas ahead of the festive holiday. How BiP’s Ashley and Jared Honored 'The Bachelor' at Their Coffee Shop Posted: 25 Dec 2021 08:00 AM PST Getting festive! Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon gave Us Weekly an exclusive tour of the holiday decorations at their new coffee shop, Audrey's, and revealed how they honored Bachelor Nation at the eatery. "You might recognize this guy. We use our friend Ben Higgins‘ coffee," Haibon, 33, told Us while showing off a sign with the former Bachelor's face on it near the shop's front door. "It's called Generous Coffee, it's a nonprofit. It's incredible coffee. It's great tasting coffee and it's a great cause." The couple, who are expecting their first child together, have a Bachelor-themed custom sign above the store's fireplace as well. "Monday nights we drink wine and watch The Bachelor," it reads. "Tuesday mornings we drink coffee and recap." ![]() The duo, who met on season 2 of Bachelor in Paradise and tied the knot four years later, explained that their Rhode Island coffee shop and lounge is named after Iaconetti's mom. It also features a giant mural done by one of their friends that pulls together all of the things they love: Haibon's home state of Rhode Island, The Bachelor, coffee and their family. When it comes to Christmas, the pair amped up the holiday decorations to make their place of work feel more welcoming. "We love this place for Christmas time because it came with this stone fireplace, which we put a little wreath on," Iaconetti, 33, told Us. "I went a little crazy at Home Goods." The space, which features another fireplace by the reading nook, was decked out with candle center pieces, a mini Christmas tree and lots of poinsettias. "We're a little concerned that we're starting off the place so strong, because the Christmas décor makes it so warm," the "Almost Famous" podcast cohost joked. Haibon also had a say in how they would deck the coffee shop halls this year, with the Virginia native saying that her husband was put in charge of the Christmas village. "I really wanted Snoopy, but Ashley wouldn't allow me," the "Help I Suck at Dating" podcast cohost told Us. "The reason we decorated like this, I really envisioned people coming in first thing in the morning, reading the newspaper. It feels like a living room. That was the goal." The entrepreneurs previously put their new business venture on display in their Christmas card. The Bachelor in Paradise alums posed in front of the shop's stone fireplace with their dog, Lois, to celebrate their last holiday season without a baby in the family. (The pair announced the Bachelor Winter Games alum's pregnancy in July.) "We tell Lois when she goes down to our new coffee shop/bar that she's going to work and, man, did she understand the assignment," Iaconetti wrote via Instagram in November, debuting the Minted card. "We wanted to include all our babies in our holiday card: Lois, Audrey's, and the one in my belly." Music Moment! Duchess Kate Plays Piano During Christmas TV Special Posted: 24 Dec 2021 12:18 PM PST ![]() Showcasing her talent! Duchess Kate rang in the holiday season by playing the piano during the Royal Carols: Together at Christmas concert on Friday, December 24. Kate, 39, by Tom Walker for a performance of "For Those Who Can’t Be Here." The TV special, which was broadcast in the U.K., was filmed earlier this month at the Westminster Abbey. The church was previously the setting for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s 2011 nuptials. The duo, who tied the knot after eight years of dating, have since welcomed Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3. Ahead of the concert broadcast, Kate reflected on the importance of coming together to celebrate Christmas as a community. “We've been through such a bleak time. We've seen so many challenges. We've lost our loved ones. We've seen our frontline workers under immense pressure. And also we've been more emotionally and socially distanced and isolated from each other,” Kate said in a video shared via the Cambridges’ official Twitter count on Thursday, December 23. “But I suppose through that separation, we've also realized how much we need each other and how acts of kindness and love can really bring us comfort and relief in times of distress.” The Duchess of Cambridge added: “In the congregation tonight we’ve got many inspirational individuals. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for all they’ve done in bringing people together and supporting their communities.” The Royal Carols: Together at Christmas holiday celebration comes after Us Weekly confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II canceled her holiday plans at Sandringham due to a surge in positive COVID-19 cases. The monarch, 95, is still set to spend Christmas Day with Prince William, Kate, Prince Charles and Duchess Camila at Windsor Castle. The queen previously altered her holiday plans in 2020 due to COVID-19. Despite the shift for the second year in a row, it’s likely the royal will be in good spirits when she sees her family, with a source exclusively telling Us earlier this month how “absolutely delighted” Kate and William’s children will be to see their great grandmother again after almost a year. According to the insider, the kids “spent hours picking out their own festive gifts for [the queen], and Charlotte and George made her paintings of The Christmas Story in art class at school.” At the time, the source also noted that William and Kate were “looking forward to starting fresh” in 2022, saying, “We'll be seeing a transition of responsibility — they're taking on additional charity work, attending more events and making appearances. There's even a royal tour in the works, and of course they're heavily involved in the Platinum Jubilee.” |
Ariana Grande Deactivates Twitter Account Posted: 24 Dec 2021 11:50 AM PST Seeking solace, ASAP! For some celebrities, the best way to find peace is to take a hiatus from cyberspace, where total chaos reigns. Stars including Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian and Sarah Hyland have taken breaks from social media in order to refresh their minds, their mentions and their search history. The “Bad Liar” songstress, who at one point was the most followed person on Instagram, is a huge fan of stepping away from the internet when trolls get her down. "I have not, personally, in two years had any social media on my phone,” she said during an Instagram Live in October 2020. "I use the platform, I make sure I approve and write things I want to write, but I don't look at it and it's not on my phone.” Though the former Disney star had plenty of fans following her, she also had her fair share of haters, who made it difficult for her to enjoy the apps. "I just felt like every day I woke up and I was like, 'Why am I doing this?'" she explained. “These words hurt and they add nothing to my life and the truth is they're lies. So, that is how I handled it, by saying, 'You know what? I'm going to step out of this because I don't think it's helping me at all.'” Even Kardashian, a veritable Instagram queen, has taken brief breaks from the app. After she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris in October 2016, she didn’t return to her accounts for three months. Since then, the Skims founder has changed how she posts and no longer adds Instagram Stories in real time. “I learned from a bad experience I had when I was robbed that people really knew my every move,” she explained during a New York Times conference in November 2019. “They knew what I had, they knew where I was, what I was doing and that, to me, really changed the things that I post.” Now, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star waits a beat before sharing her life with her fans. “I still want people to feel like they’re on that journey with me,” she said. “But I might video something, then post it 30 minutes later when I’ve left the location, more for privacy.” Keep scrolling to see which celebrities stepped back from social media: ![]() The “Treat You Better” singer said he loves his apps a little too much — and that’s why he had to leave TikTok in October 2021. Luckily, he’s just on a little hiatus. “TikTok is great. I have extreme social media addiction, so I have to really balance myself out,” he explained to Audacy at the time. “I have to delete those apps every now and again.” The Canadian confirmed that he is “on a TikTok break right now.” He continued, “But when I have it, it’s everything … I am a child of Vine. They’re different, TikTok is much more advanced.” David Fisher/Shutterstock ![]() Following the birth of her third child, the Party of Five alum took to Instagram in October 2021 to announce she was taking a social media breather. Hewitt said she needed “at least a week, maybe two away” so that she could transition from “scrolling time” to “active time” with her family. The 9-1-1 star explained that being on the apps made her feel “bad” about her postpartum body. “Like I’m not enough. Doing enough. Getting my body back fast enough. Giving enough. All of it,” she wrote via her Instagram Story. Courtesy of Jennifer Love Hewitt/Instagram ![]() The Paramore crooner wrote a lengthy statement via Instagram, announcing her social media pause. “I’ve been on the internet and more specifically, social media, since I was 15. Maybe even younger. It started with the blog sites … then Myspace. Then Paramore became a thing and social media wasn’t even just for my own personal use anymore but it was part of the job,” she wrote in the post. “It has been a useful and mostly beautiful part of the job. I crave connection and the internet is a pretty good tool for that when it’s not tearing us apart.” She continued, “As for my own personal experience with social media, I just don’t want it anymore. I’ve carefully considered this decision for almost a year now. Now I know for sure that my desire to move away from personal accounts (yes, even my finsta) is based on nothing more than my interest in keeping a boundary between a public and a private life and wanting to spend more time looking up and out, rather than down.” Williams added that professional updates moving forward can be found via the band’s account. Sara Jaye Weiss/Shutterstock ![]() The "Video Games" songstress deactivated her social media accounts in September 2021 after sharing a video with fans about why she needed a break from the internet. "Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know that tomorrow, we are going to be deactivating our social media accounts, my social media accounts," Del Rey said in the clip. "And that is simply because I have so many other interests and other jobs I'm doing that require privacy and transparency." She noted that she was still on track to release her eighth studio album, Blue Banisters, in October 2021. "I'm still present and I love what I do," she explained. "And I'm absolutely here for the music, and I'm also just going on some different endeavors. And I want to say thank you so much for all the support, and I do hope you like the record. It's a compilation of older songs and a few newer songs, some written by family and friends and mostly old collaborators, and there will probably always be more to come." Matt Baron/Shutterstock ![]() "I got rid of Twitter, I got rid of Instagram, I blocked YouTube, that was a big one," the "Solar Power" singer told James Corden in August 2021. "But now my social network is the New York Times cooking app. ... That's become a source of community for me." One month later, the New Zealand native went into more detail about her reason for stepping back from social media in Vogue’s October 2021 cover story. “I think I was known for having my finger on the pulse, so it was actually a huge decision philosophically for me to step back from that. But I started to see the phone as a portal,” Lorde explained. “I can’t keep going through that portal, in the same way that I wouldn’t just take mushrooms all these moments of a day. It’s too deep a tunnel.” She added: “I could sense that it would be very bad for the work and for me if I stayed online. I don’t think I’ve met too many people for whom social media is a net positive. It’s producing crazy chemicals, forming crazy neural pathways that are not rooted in positivity. … But I think we’ve got to be upfront about the things that are making us sick as a society.” PA Images/INSTAR ![]() In August 2021, the model told her followers that she needed some time away from her apps to focus on herself and her health. "On social media, we see what people want us to see. I want you to see that I'm not perfect," she wrote via Instagram. "For a long time, for many reasons, I didn't take my physical and mental health seriously. ... Right now I must prioritize my physical and mental health although I do feel weirdly guilty doing so. It's starting to get a bit scary so if I'm not as present on social media, if I don't meet deadlines, if I don't respond to messages, this is why. I'm sorry to everyone, but for me, I need to take this break to save my energy and use it to heal." Jason Mendez/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() The music manager deactivated both his Twitter and Instagram accounts in July 2021, days after he filed for divorce from his wife of seven years, Yael Cohen Braun. Shutterstock ![]() After receiving backlash for a TikTok in which she questioned a dance popularized by Black choreographers, the Ned’s Declassified alum revealed she was taking a break from social media in a teary Instagram Story video. "I just have to say right now that the hate in my inbox is not OK," she said in July 2021. "I did not mean anything in any kind of way. I am learning every day, as I think everybody is. And this kind of hate just needs to evaporate from the planet, no matter who it's directed towards. Crocodile tears? No, dude — this is like my soul out there. If you know anything about what I stand for or what I believe in, you know that it's not this." The actress continued, “For my own mental health, I needed to take a step back from social media anyway. But I'm not here to offend or belittle anybody. ... The intention wasn't that serious. I gotta just go off here for a little while. But I appreciate you, I love you and I'll be back. And I hope that I know more, and I hope we all have a little more compassion and understanding." Rob Latour/Shutterstock ![]() While commemorating the one-year anniversary of her YouTube channel in July 2021, the Captain Marvel star announced that she decided to put her social media project on hold for the moment. “So I did not think that I would hit the one-year mark on this, to be quite honest," she said in a video message to her followers. "I didn’t know how I’d feel putting myself out there weekly in this way. I think some of you know that I started this channel, I started thinking about it before the pandemic, and it was because I needed to just, like, I needed to shake it up. I needed to feel like I could just be silly and normal.” The Oscar winner explained that because film production had resumed more regularly after the coronavirus lockdowns of 2020, she would have less time to spend on her vlog. "I can’t keep up on doing videos weekly," she added. "I’ve got to go back to my job. My first job. My acting job.” YouTube ![]() The Crikey! It's the Irwins star announced she’d be taking a month-long break from the apps in June 2021, almost three months after giving birth to her daughter, Grace Warrior. “I feel tremendously grateful to share our life and conservation work with you but I need some time to focus on the happiness that is my family (both human and animal). You can keep up with our adventures by following my family and Australia Zoo on social media. 💙,” she wrote via Instagram. “Recently, I’ve had many people reaching out to share their own stories of working hard to protect their mental health. Thank you for sharing and speaking your truth. To my friends who are dealing with depression, anxiety and other battles every day — I see you. These issues are very real and deserve to be discussed and addressed. Surround yourself with the light of people who genuinely care about you and will support you during the good times and the hard times. Remember there are helplines available. Mental health deserves more understanding and support instead of being dismissed or patronised. You are absolutely worthy of love and kindness.” John Salangsang/Shutterstock ![]() The Harley Quinn actress hadn’t been on Instagram for six weeks when she announced that she was officially taking a break in June 2021. “Jumping off social media for the time being - check out @luckychapentertainment if you’re interested in what we’re up to, otherwise ciao for now!” the Aussie revealed via Instagram. Along with the statement, she posted a picture of herself and some colleagues from Lucky Chap, her production company, celebrating their latest hit film, Promising Young Woman. Richard Shotwell/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() In June 2021, the Real Housewives of New York City star announced that she would be stepping away from social media for "about two weeks" because of difficult RHONY episodes that were about to air. "Tonight’s episode and next week’s episode are really intense and really important … and I want you to lean into them and I want you to watch them," she said in an Instagram video. "It's different this season. You're right. We're in a pandemic, we're in the middle of the most dynamic call to action around racial reconciliation, certainly in our generation, and we're in the heartbeat of it all in New York City. So we're doing a heavy lift here." Sophy Holland/Bravo ![]() After frequently showcasing her slimmer figure online throughout her "year of health" in 2020, the Pitch Perfect actress decided to take a step back to focus on her career. "I'm going to sign off for a bit because I'm filming a movie here in the U.K. that needs my full attention," she said in a March 2021 Instagram video. "It's a very different type of role for me, so I've really got to immerse myself in it. ... It's time for me to work my ass off, once again." Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() "I don't even have a Twitter anymore because there was never really a time where I would go on there and it didn't feel like it was a very toxic environment," the model explained during a March 2021 YouTube video featuring psychiatrist Jessica Clemons. "The thought of even opening the app gives me such bad anxiety that I feel like I'm gonna throw up. ... I want everyone to like me, it's like, my downfall at times and I'm working through it. I think one thing I've had to come to the conclusion of is trying not to feel like I owe everybody an explanation or owe anybody anything, and really just try to correct what I need to correct personally behind closed doors." Baldwin also made some changes to her Instagram feed, restricting comments in order to create a more "encouraging and uplifting" environment. Matt Baron/Shutterstock ![]() The Scandal alum announced in a Twitter video in March 2021 that she was “going to be gone for a few weeks” because she needed a break from social media. “I love you guys. … Miss you already,” she captioned the post. Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() The actress opened up about her decision to quit Twitter in September 2020, explaining that anytime she'd tweet her feelings, it would become a headline. "It would be, like, ‘Evan Rachel Wood goes on a rant!’ or ‘Evan Rachel Wood attacks this person!’” she told Variety. “Honestly, I think [deactivating my account is] one of the best decisions I ever made! Really." Photo by Bad Robot/HBO/Kobal/Shutterstock ![]() The TV presenter announced his plans to take a break from social media in August 2020. “The world is crazy right now. And for all the good things social media has it also carries a toxic element,” he wrote via Instagram. “I have blocked over 100 people in the last few days. Humans are lashing out. And it saddens me! So I am going to take a little break! Use the time to pamper the wife, annoy the kids, eat a vast about of carbs and watch movies that were made in the 1980’s! Be kind to each other and seeya. I’ve never been the most active user of social media, but even the minor amount I had been engaging during quarantine had become a bit too taxing.” John Salangsang/Shutterstock ![]() The YouTuber announced in June 2020 that she would be taking a step back from her channel after apologizing for past racist videos. “I’m not sure that I want to continue doing stuff on this channel,” she told her followers, after saying sorry for the use of blackface and more offensive sketches in her catalogue. “I don’t want to put anything out in the world that’s gonna hurt anybody. Lovato said goodbye to Twitter again in February 2019 after she was slammed for saying her "favorite part" of Super Bowl LIII was looking at memes about 21 Savage, who was arrested by U.S. immigration officials the morning of the big game and faces deportation. The Disney Channel alum clarified that she would never joke about "anyone getting deported," but still deactivated her social media account. She later wrote on her Instagram Story: "This break couldn't last long enough tbh." Alec Baldwin Thanks Supporters Amid ‘Tough Time’ After ‘Rust’ Shooting Posted: 24 Dec 2021 11:45 AM PST While filming his movie Rust on Thursday, October 21, Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that injured the director and killed another crew member. The incident occurred at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico. According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department, the weapon was “discharged” by the 30 Rock alum, 63, and Deadline later reported that production on the Western was paused. “Mr. Baldwin came in voluntarily to speak with investigators,” sheriff’s office spokesman Juan Ríos noted in a statement, asserting that the situation would be treated like “any other investigation.” Detectives were trying to determine “what type of projectile was discharged” as the set remained on lockdown. The victims — director Joel Souza and director of photography Halyna Hutchins — were rushed to receive medical attention after being struck. Hutchins, 42, was pronounced dead at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. The 48-year-old filmmaker, for his part, was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center via helicopter. While his condition was initially unknown, Deadline was told by Souza’s rep that he was released from the hospital on Friday, October 22. The movie’s production company, Rust Movie Productions LLC, noted in a statement regarding the accident, “The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones. We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation. We will be providing counseling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.” Hutchins was originally from the Ukraine and had been sharing updates about the filming process with her Instagram followers ahead of her death. “One of the perks of shooting a western is you get to ride horses on your day off:),” she captioned a video of herself on Wednesday, October 20, as she joined a group on horseback. The Emmy winner broke his silence on Hutchins’ death on Friday via Twitter, writing, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.” Before Baldwin addressed the incident, tributes poured in for the late cinematographer. “I’m in shock. I was so lucky to have had Halyna Hutchins as my DP on ‘Archenemy,'” Joe Manganiello tweeted. “An incredible talent & great person. I can't believe this could happen in this day and age… gunfire from a prop gun could kill a crew member? What a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to her family.” Ava DuVernay left a comment on casting director Sidra Smith‘s Instagram post about Hutchins, writing, “Devastating. Absolutely horrific. Blessings to you during this difficult time, Sidra. And may her soul be at rest.” Scroll down for the latest updates on the Rust shooting: ![]() Hutchins was working as director of photography on Rust and was named one of American Cinematography's "rising stars" in the profession in 2019. Ron Adar/SOPA Images/Shutterstock ![]() As of Thursday, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office was in the midst of an "open and active" investigation, but no arrests were made. Andres Leighton/AP/Shutterstock ![]() That is the question investigators are still trying to answer. The assistant director called out “cold gun” when handing Baldwin the weapon, the AD wrote in an affidavit, according to the New York Times. “Cold” means no ammunition is in the gun. The crew member “did not know live rounds were in the prop gun,” Detective Joel Cano declared in an affidavit. Jae C Hong/AP/Shutterstock ![]() The LA Times reports that several crew members walked off set to protest working conditions hours ahead of the fatal accident. They accused the production of not properly following safety protocols, including gun inspections. The workers claimed that there were two accidental gun discharges on set before, with Baldwin’s stunt double allegedly firing a gun that was announced as “cold” only to find a live round in it. “There should have been an investigation into what happened,” a crew member alleged to the LA Times. “There were no safety meetings. There was no assurance that it wouldn’t happen again. All they wanted to do was rush, rush, rush.” Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() Many film and TV sets are taking action and vowing not to risk having “hot” or “live” — meaning loaded — weapons on set. ABC’s police drama The Rookie has officially banned live rounds. “As of today, it is now policy on The Rookie that all gunfire on set will be with Air Soft guns with CG muzzle flashes added in post,” showrunner Alexi Hawley wrote in a memo obtained by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday, October 22. “There will be no more ‘live’ weapons on the show. The safety of our cast and crew is too important.” Amazon Prime’s The Boys, which is known for its violent action sequences, will also forgo live rounds. Showrunner Eric Kripke, who worked with Rust cast member Jensen Ackles on Supernatural and The Boys, announced the news on Friday via Twitter. “In [Hutchins’] memory, a simple, easy pledge: no more guns with blanks on any of my sets ever. We'll use VFX muzzle flashes. Who's with me?” he wrote. Eric McCandless/ABC/Kobal/Shutterstock ![]() This is not the first time a prop gun has led to fatalities on a film set. In 1993, the late Brandon Lee was killed during filming for The Crow after an improperly loaded prop gun was fired. His sister, Shannon Lee, reacted to the Rust incident on Thursday. "Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on 'Rust,'" she tweeted via a memorial account set up for her brother. "No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period." Pressman/Most/Kobal/Shutterstock ![]() "I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna," Souza said in a statement. Kristina Bumphrey/StarPix/Shutterstock ![]() According to Deadline, assistant director David Halls, who handed Baldwin a prop gun moments before it was discharged, was "removed from set immediately" after the accident. Producers told the outlet that an incident report was filed and a new assistant director was brought in. Andres Leighton/AP/Shutterstock ![]() On October 22, a Rust crewmember named Serge Svetnoy shared a photo of Hutchins that he claimed was taken shortly before the fatal shooting. “This is the last photo with Halyna on set,” he wrote via Facebook. The snapshot showed the cinematographer shooting a scene with Baldwin in a small church on the New Mexico set. Two days later, Svetnoy shared an emotional post in which he revealed that he “was holding [Hutchins] in my arms while she was dying. Her blood was on my hands,” he wrote via Facebook on October 24. In that same message, the electrician stated that, in his opinion, Hutchins’ death was “the fault of negligence and unprofessionalism.” Courtesy of Halyna Hutchins/Instagram ![]() Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed during a press conference on October 27 that a lead bullet was recovered from Souza’s shoulder after he was taken to the hospital. The bullet is believed to be the one that fatally struck Hutchins. Police also collected approximately 600 items of evidence, including 500 rounds of ammunition from the set, which were a mixture of “blanks, dummy rounds and what we are suspecting were live rounds,” according to Mendoza. MediaPunch/Shutterstock ![]() Hannah Gutierrez Reed was the armorer — or person in charge of firearms — on the set of Rust. During a September episode of the “Voices of West” podcast, the former model admitted “the best part” of her job was “just showing people who are normally kind of freaked out by guns how safe they can be and how they’re not really problematic unless put in the wrong hands.” Reed is the daughter of longtime armorer Thell Reed, who was Brad Pitt’s shooting coach on the 2007 film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. However, the 24-year-old had only worked on one movie before landing the role of head armorer on Baldwin's western. The Hollywood rookie noted she had “figured” out most of the job's requirements on “my own” and said that “loading blanks” is the “scariest thing to me.” Jae C Hong/AP/Shutterstock ![]() Gutierrez Reed's lawyers, Jason Bowles and Robert Gorence, released a statement to Us on October 29. "First Hannah would like to extend her deepest and most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Halyna," the statement read, referring to Hutchins as "an inspirational woman in film who Hannah looked up to." The statement went on to allege that she had been "slandered" in the aftermath of the shooting. "Safety is Hannah’s number one priority on set. Ultimately this set would never have been compromised if live ammo were not introduced," the lawyers claimed on her behalf. "Hannah has no idea where the live rounds came from. Hannah and the prop master gained control over the guns and she never witnessed anyone shoot live rounds with these guns and nor would she permit that. They were locked up every night and at lunch and there’s no way a single one of them was unaccounted for or being shot by crew members. Hannah still, to this day, has never had an accidental discharge." Though there have been reports that there were two accidental discharges in other situations on set, Gutierrez Reed's lawyers allege that others were at fault. "The first one on this set was the prop master and the second was a stunt man after Hannah informed him his gun was hot with blanks," they alleged. Myung J Chun/Los Angeles Times/Shutterstock ![]() Gutierrez Reed's lawyers suggested that the blame for the fatal accident lay with other filmmakers. "Hannah was hired on two positions on this film, which made it extremely difficult to focus on her job as an armorer," they said in the October 29 statement. "She fought for training, days to maintain weapons, and proper time to prepare for gunfire but ultimately was overruled by production and her department. The whole production set became unsafe due to various factors, including lack of safety meetings. This was not the fault of Hannah." Andres Leighton/AP/Shutterstock ![]() While in Vermont on October 30, Baldwin told news outlets that he couldn't say much about the incident, but he is cooperating with authorities and mourning the death of Hutchins. "I’ve been ordered by the sheriff’s department in Santa Fe, I can’t answer any questions about the investigation," Baldwin said. "I can’t — it’s an active investigation in terms of a woman died. She was my friend.” Kristina Bumphrey/StarPix/Shutterstock ![]() The actor, who also produced the film, explained that he met with Hutchins' husband as well as her son to offer support. "The guy is overwhelmed with grief," Baldwin said on October 30. "There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time but nothing like this. This is a one in a trillion event, and so he is in shock [and] has a 9-year-old son. We are in constant contact with him. We’re very worried about his family and his kid, and we’re eagerly awaiting for the sheriff’s department telling us what their investigation has yielded.” Andres Leighton/AP/Shutterstock ![]() Dave Halls, the assistant director on Rust, released a statement in which he praised his “friend” Hutchins. “I’m shocked and saddened by her death,” he said. “It’s my hope that this tragedy prompts the industry to reevaluate its values and practices to ensure no one is harmed through the creative process again.” He continued, “My thoughts are with all who knew and loved Halyna.” Halls did not address the details of the incident or the reports that he was the one who handed Baldwin the gun involved in the shooting. Jae C Hong/AP/Shutterstock ![]() Baldwin reposted a thread from Terese Magpale Davis, who worked on Rust as a costume designer, outlining what they allege really happened on set. Davis’ post, which the actor shared via his Instagram account on November 2, claimed “the story being spun of us being overworked and surrounded by unsafe, chaotic conditions is bulls—t.” Davis stated that she “never worked more than a 12.5-hour shoot day,” saying that only happened once and “most days” were under the 12-hour mark. She recalled the day that Hutchins died, saying, “We had come off a 12-hour turnaround after an 11-hour shoot day,” noting they had a “56-hour weekend right before” the prolonged day. “No one was too tired to do their jobs,” she said. She refuted claims that the producers on the film didn’t care about their crew, writing, “They were some of the most approachable and warm producers I’ve ever worked with.” Davis explained that “concerns were heard and addressed” by the producers. According to her, the crew had a union rep who told production “not to give in to the camera crew” demands because they were asking for things that “the union does not require.” Davis alleged that she has spoken with the producers on the project since the accident, and they told her they have chosen not to defend themselves against the “blatantly false accusations” because they want the “focus to be on Halyna” and they want to “grieve and recover.” Kristina Bumphrey/StarPix/Shutterstock ![]() Matthew Hutchins, the husband of the late cinematographer, has retained California-based law firm Panish Shea Boyle Ravipudi, according to Deadline. In a clip from the December 2021 special, Baldwin cried while reflecting on what went wrong on set. "The trigger wasn't pulled. I didn't pull the trigger," he said. "I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them. Never. I have no idea [how a bullet got in there]. Someone put a live bullet in a gun. A bullet that wasn't even supposed to be on the property." Baldwin went on to say the incident was the "worst thing" that's ever happened to him, explaining, "Because I think back and I think, 'What could I have done?'" Lumeimages/MEGA ![]() Baldwin confessed during his first sit-down interview about the incident that he didn't feel guilty, revealing, "I might have killed myself if I felt that I was responsible. I don't say that lightly." He continued to deny pulling the trigger, asserting that he was simply following Hutchins' directions on set. "I've been told by people who are in the know, in terms of even inside the state, that it's highly unlikely that I would be charged with anything criminally," he added. ABC News ![]() Baldwin shared a two-page letter via Instagram in December 2021 that was written by the Rust crew, which defended the film’s production. The writers of the note clarified that the note had "not been sanctioned or influenced in any way by the producers,” but was intended to "express a more accurate account" of their "workplace tragedy." The letter stated that Hutchins was the “heart of the production” and “losing her hurt every single one of us." "We are hurting from the loss of our togetherness, our spirit, and the loss of our labor,” the message continued. “We are hurting for our friends that have been targeted by the public as they themselves grieve." While those who worked on the film said the production had its challenges, “the descriptions of Rust as a chaotic, dangerous, and exploitative workplace are false and distract from what matters the most: the memory of Halyna Hutchins, and the need to find modern alternatives to outdated industry firearm and safety practices.” imageSPACE/Shutterstock ![]() Police sought a warrant to obtain the Boss Baby actor's cell phone in December 2021, according to Deadline, requesting the device to determine whether there might be "any evidence relating to the death investigation of Halyna Hutchins." A judge signed off on the paperwork, which stated, "Such information, if it exists, may be material and relevant to this investigation." At the time, Baldwin's lawyer noted, "We are confident that the evidence will show that Mr. Baldwin is not responsible civilly or criminally for what occurred on October 21, and he continues to cooperate with authorities." John Sheene/Ace Pictures/Shutterstock ![]() As more details continued to emerge, Baldwin denied a report claiming he asked for a larger prop weapon on the movie set. "This, in fact is a lie," he tweeted in December 2021. "The choices regarding any props by me for the film RUST were made weeks before production began. To suggest that any changes were made 'before fatal shooting' is false." Gregory Pace/Shutterstock |
