“Dating just doesn’t seem to be her focus right now,” a source tells Us Weekly exclusively of the Big Bang Theory alum, who marked her 36th birthday on Tuesday, November 30, and “celebrated over a couple of days.”

Cuoco and Cook, 30, called it quits in September after three years of marriage. The actress filed for divorce in California the same day their split made headlines. As she continues to work through her separation, the 8 Simple Rules alum has turned to her inner circle for support.

“She’s really happy where she is in life,” the source tells Us. “She’s been showered with gifts, flowers and so much love from her friends, family, costars [and] her team [for her birthday].”

The Harley Quinn star gave fans a glimpse at her birthday celebrations on Wednesday, December 1, sharing a snap in front of Disneyland’s iconic castle. “Disney magic with the best squad,” she wrote via Instagram Story, posing alongside a group of close friends.

Shortly after filing her divorce paperwork, Cuoco jetted off to Europe to film season 2 of The Flight Attendant, teasing “another turbulent” journey for her character, Cassie, in a September Instagram post. Working on the HBO Max series has been a welcome distraction for the Emmy nominee, who has “mainly been spending time with the cast and crew,” per the source.

In court documents obtained by Us in September, Cuoco cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for her split from the equestrian. Neither party sought spousal support. At the time, a source exclusively told Us that the Wedding Ringer actress had an “ironclad prenup in place.”

Despite their back and forth in court, there’s no bad blood between the estranged couple.

“[Kaley] and Karl are on good terms,” a source recently revealed, noting that the divorce has been “amicable” and “far from messy” so far. “It could take months to be finalized, but it wouldn’t be because of any fighting whatsoever, it would just be because of the process taking time.”

What makes a great gift? It all depends on who you ask. For stars such as Kylie Jenner and Kanye West, more is definitely more.

Money is no object for the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum and the rap mogul, who shower their friends and family members with extravagant goods.

The Kylie Cosmetics founder has given everything from a Ferrari to Louis Vuitton handbags to those in her inner circle. The Yeezy designer, for his part, has donated $1 million to his then-wife Kim Kardashian's favorite charity in honor of her birthday and also had a one-of-a-kind Hermès Birkin bag hand-painted for her.

The KKW Beauty founder's 40th birthday celebration in October 2020, proved that Kardashian is also a great gift giver. The Skims founder flew her closest friends and family to a private island for a week of festivities and fun activities, including dancing, bike riding, movies on the beach and big dinner.

"I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now," she wrote via Instagram, referencing the coronavirus pandemic quarantine restrictions at the time. "So in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40."

Others, such as Once Upon a Time alum Josh Dallas and musician Stevie Nicks, have shown their love and admiration for their nearest and dearest with inexpensive-yet-personal presents straight from the heart.

"I have this incredible book that Stevie Nicks gave me in 2013 when my boyfriend [Cory Monteith] died," Lea Michele told Billboard in January 2017. "She gave me this art book of hers that she put notes in over the years and song lyrics, and then she rewrote personal notes for me that say things like, 'Keep singing, and have faith.'"

Taylor Swift has also become a gifting guru, sending special presents to her new mom friends over the years.

The "Lover" singer hand-embroidered a blanket for Katy Perry's first child, daughter Daisy Dove in September 2020. "Hope it's one she drags around for years till it becomes an unrecognizable shred that she keeps in her pocket as a teenager," Perry captioned a photo of the sweet gift.

"My husband was actually born in East Berlin, and I've been there many, many times. Obviously, I love Germany. This is where I'm from, even though I've been [in the United States] longer than I've been in Germany. So he gave this to me for my birthday." Klum said the gift now sits in her garden, adding, "I loved it. It's beautiful. I mean, it's beautiful that it's broken and it's not standing there anymore doing what they intended it to do, so I love it as an art piece in the garden." Shutterstock

The momager proved mother really does know best in December 2016, when she got the perfect thing for daughter Khloé Kardashian: two original photographs of Marilyn Monroe shot by legendary artists Bert Stern and Richard C. “Most mornings there’s a massive fight between Charlotte and George as to what song is played in the morning,” the Duke of Cambridge, 39, shared on the “Time to Walk” season 2 finale, which debuts on Monday, December 6, for Apple Watch for Fitness+ subscribers and on Apple Music 1. “And I have to, now, basically prioritize that one day someone does this one, and another day it’s someone else’s turn. So George gets his go, then Charlotte gets her go. Such is the, the clamor for the music.”

The father of three — he shares George, 8, Charlotte, 6 and Prince Louis, 3, with wife Duchess Kate — revealed that while his mother blasted hits like Tina Turner‘s “Simply the Best,” his kids prefer more recent pop hits like Shakira‘s “Waka Waka,” according to Town & Country.

“There's a lot of hip movements going along. There’s a lot of dressing up,” William explained. “Charlotte, particularly, is running around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet stuff and everything. She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing. It’s a really happy moment where the children just enjoy dancing, messing around, and, and singing."

In addition to Turner and Shakira’s hits, the Royal Air Force veteran also included a personal favorite, AC/DC‘s “Thunderstruck.” The royal said it helps him start his Monday mornings off right.

“There's nothing better, when you're a bit bleary-eyed after the weekend and trying to get yourself back into the grind of the week, than listening to Thunderstruck,” he said via the Daily Mail. “It absolutely wakes you up, puts your week in the best mood possible, and you feel like you can take on anything and anyone. … It's a difficult song not to dance to or to nod along to.”

While William shares plenty of personal anecdotes in the 38-minute episode, which he recorded while on his own walk, the topic he was truly there to talk about was mental health, a cause he has been supporting for years.

“Walking has been a feature of my life during the good times and the bad, come rain or shine. For me, it provides an opportunity to clear my mind and gain some perspective,” the England native shared via Instagram on Friday, December 3. “It's a key part of how I manage my mental health. It can be a very sociable exercise or a moment of complete calm and isolation.”

Shortly after Story was born, Derek gushed about how happy he was to be a dad. "[It's] awesome," the athlete told Us Weekly exclusively in April 2019. "They see their dad watch SportsCenter and all that," Hannah told Editorialist in November 2019. "[But] we've sort of taken technology out of it. I grew up in a small community, my mom was a teacher, we had lots of arts and crafts going on. I think I raise my kids just how my mom raised me — being outside with nature and animals, trying not to be so on top of them, giving them safe places to explore and just use their imagination. I really value that."

"’I am here, I love you, and I will take care of you.’ These were the only words that came to me when we learned Halyna had died,” Living Clearly Method author, 37, shared in a lengthy Instagram caption on Friday, December 3. “I remember saying that phrase over and over again. The horrific loss, the torture to her family, and you, my husband, somehow put in this unthinkable nightmare.”

The actor, 63, was given a prop gun on the New Mexico set of the western film Rust in October. He was told the gun was unloaded, but a live bullet was in the weapon. The bullet was discharged, injuring director Joel Souza and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

“Our public life is one that brings great joy in connecting with amazing people and tremendous trauma when it gets dark,” Hilaria, who married Alec in 2012, continued, adding that she was fearful of Alec sharing too much with the public.

“I was afraid for you to open up because I've seen your spirit crushed, your mental health shattered, your soul in unimaginable pain,” she explained. “Sometimes I wonder how much one body, one mind can take. I don't want to lose you.”

Still, the 30 Rock alum shared his side of the story during a primetime ABC special on Thursday, December 2. Alec, who served as star and producer on Rust, told George Stephanopoulos that he didn’t pull the trigger and isn’t sure how the gun misfired. He also says he is not at fault for the tragedy.

"I might have killed myself if I felt that I was responsible," the Emmy winner said during the tell-all. "I don't say that lightly."

However, Alec confessed to feeling haunted by Hutchins’ death. "I have dreams about this constantly now," he said. "I go through my day and I make it through the day. Then I collapse at the end of the day. Emotionally, I collapse."

Hilaria said she was “proud” in her tribute her husband, with whom she shares six children (Carmen, 8, Rafael, 6, Leonardo, 5, Romeo, 3, Eduardo, 15 months, and Lucia, 9 months).

“You know yourself and wanted to speak. I am proud of you. We become scared and crumble as some speak about us, for us, gossip, conspiracies, ALL OF THE DAMN OPINIONS,” the yoga instructor wrote, adding that she has even censored herself amid all the attention.

“You always encourage me to speak, use my voice, stay true. You were right and continue to inspire me,” the Massachusetts native added.

The Boss Baby star’s wife went on to explain how sensitive her husband is, and how that’s one of the few personality traits they have in common. “You and I don't always get it right, but we have big hearts and we love deeply. We are completely different in almost every [single] possible way, but we are united through deep caring,” Hilaria explained. “Alec, we are messy, unfiltered, and wear our hearts, naked, on our sleeves—this makes us targets and we are so sensitive that to hurt us is easy. As much as I want the pain to go, I can't imagine being any other way. It just is who we are—and who we are together.”

She continued, offering support to both the late cinematographer and the father of her children: “So I go back to, ‘I am here, I love you, and I'm going to take care of you.’ We honor Halyna and her family. To hopefully figure out how this happened and whatever we can do to make sure it never happens again. My Alec, I am here to heal any of your pain that I can. I am not going anywhere.”

I came to terms with that earlier this year, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know. … I'm the happiest and healthiest I've ever been in my life. That means the world to me."

Before coming out, Underwood previously dated Cassie Randolph, whom he met during season 23 of the ABC reality show in 2019. After a tumultuous journey together, the pair called it quits in May 2020. Following the split, the California native, 26, filed a restraining order against her ex after alleged harassment claims. After a private agreement between the two, the order was dropped that November.

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 02:00 PM PST

Finding The One! Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae Young's whirlwind love story is too cute for words.

The twosome first crossed paths on the 4th of July in 2019 when they were boating with mutual friends in Newport Beach, California. Later that month, El Moussa and Young were seen getting cozy on a boat in Redondo Beach, California.

The Flip or Flop star went on to confirm their relationship that August via Instagram. At the time, he shared a photo of the duo alongside a sweet message about how he was able to find happiness in love.

"I'll be honest and say I never thought I would meet someone special in my life after the last three years. Then … out of the blue @heatherraeyoung walked into my life," he explained. "The first time I saw her smile she 'did that thing to my tummy' and I knew right away I needed to get to know her …  so I asked her out!! She said yes 😎 ."

El Moussa continued, "In life, you can't predict the future! I couldn't predict [my] divorce! I couldn't predict two cancers! I couldn't predict my back injury! You just never know what tomorrow brings. I just want to let the world know I met someone special that makes me want to be a better man."

Their relationship continued to progress relatively quickly. Later that August, Young revealed exclusively to Us Weekly that she believed El Moussa could be The One.

“We are just really, really happy," she told Us at the time. "He has all the qualities that I would want in someone. I think we just need to spend more time together before we can make that decision."

The pair then spent the holidays together and moved in together in early 2020. After celebrating their one-year anniversary, El Moussa asked the Selling Sunset star to marry him. "The Future Mrs. Tarek El Moussa!!!!" the real estate agent wrote via Instagram, sharing a photo from the moment he proposed.

On Young's "Flashbacks With Jessica Hall and Heather Young" podcast, she revealed that the engagement wasn't a total shock. "I knew it was gonna come eventually because we talked about marriage," she shared. "We looked at rings like three months in. Nothing serious, but we went and looked."

El Moussa was previously married to Christina Anstead from 2009 to 2018. Together, they share daughter Taylor and son Brayden.

According to the court docs, which Us obtained, the Texas native was charged in October with murder in his home state. TMZ was the first to report the news.

According to the outlet, he was arrested after an alleged verbal altercation with a local man, Carlos Veliz Jr., early in the morning on August 31. The dispute ended with Veliz being shot in the head, which the medical examiner confirmed was fatal.

The body was found in a convenience store parking lot, and security footage from local businesses showed someone operating an SUV while they argued with Veliz. Gabriel was later arrested after he was found to have rented an Eclipse Crossover and owned a shirt similar to the one seen in the video. Gunshot residue was found in the rented car, on Gabriel’s hands and on his gloves.

Gabriel previously served four years in prison, which his brother openly discussed during his tenure on The Bachelorette season 16.

"Especially with George Floyd and police brutality, that’s something that really hit home for me," the Bachelor in Paradise alum 29, opened up to show lead Tayshia Adams about his younger brother's experience during a November 2020 episode. "You can only imagine how much wilder it could be in prison. My brother used to tell me stories about how these correctional officers, like, beat him up. And I felt so bad because my first question was like, ‘Well, Gabe, what did you do?’ It doesn’t matter. No matter what George Floyd did either way, or what my brother did, these people have a job to do and they need to do it right. They can’t just be hurting people for no reason."

As the engineer fought for the 31-year-old "Click Bait" podcast host's heart on the ABC dating series, the duo often bonded over their experiences as minorities while navigating 2020's Black Lives Matter protests.

"Honestly, it just inspired me more than anything. I never thought in my lifetime — our lifetime — that so many people would come together for one common cause," Ivan explained on the show. "I really never thought that. … We're both biracial, have Black dads, and we have this beautiful love story developing. This is just so big."

Upon Gabriel's release, he sat down with the California native during Ivan's hometown date segment after his surprise appearance.

"The biggest surprise of the night was my brother was here," Ivan explained during a confessional interview. "It was just, like, such a range of emotions and it meant the world for me. It's very special for me to have my brother here; he grew up by my side and knows me best. At the end of the day, he's my best friend, so I'm very excited for Tayshia to meet him."

Gabriel, for his part, gushed over his brother at the time.

"I mean, everything you said, I could say the same about you," Gabriel told his brother on the show. "You're my best friend, I look up to you. It's just unfortunate that when I got dropped in the water, you guys had to learn how to ride the waves as well."

He later added in a confessional, "Seeing Ivan, I felt revitalized. He's demonstrated his love for me as a brother. He's helped guide me and I'm just grateful that I was able to show up and support him in this righteous endeavor."

Even a pandemic can't stop wedding bells from ringing. As the world slowly began to open back up in 2021 following the COVID-19 crisis, stars were eager to exchange vows.

First came Alexander Ludwig and Lauren Dear, who announced they'd eloped in Utah following a one-month engagement on January 4. Next up, Jennifer Wayne and Austin Moody wed on January 9 after a two-week engagement.

“I’m still in complete shock but I'm humbled and honored to introduce you to Mrs. Moody,” the bluegrass musician wrote via Instagram at the time. “Now more than ever, I am able to truly admire and appreciate everything she is. I’ve never met anyone so kind and generous to people she knows as well as complete strangers. Without even knowing it, she teaches me how to be a better person every day that I am with her. I can't believe I got to marry my best friend … Jennifer, now I stand before the world a brand new man because of the love you've shown me. From this moment on you will never walk alone.”

Another 2021 trend? Secret weddings! Aubrey Plaza subtly revealed on May 7 that she and her longtime beau, Jeff Baena, tied the knot by referring to him as her "darling husband" in an Instagram post.

"Whoa!!!! Just took in the word husband and I am sending you both love and congratulations and blessings!!!!!❤❤❤," Mary Steenburgen wrote in a comment. "UM HUSBAND HOLD ON THERE," a fan added.

Just over a week later, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez got married in a secret ceremony.

"It was tiny and intimate — less than 20 people," Grande's rep told Us Weekly on May 17. "The room was so happy and full of love. The couple and both families couldn't be happier."

Us confirmed the pair's engagement five months earlier.

"Ariana is beyond excited. She has really enjoyed getting to know and falling in love with Dalton out of the spotlight, something she didn't get to do in her past relationships," an insider said in December 2020. "They are so in love and committed to spend the rest of their lives together."

Other 2021 newlyweds included two Duggar brothersJustin Duggar and Jed Duggar — who married Claire Spivey and Katey Nakatsu, respectively.

"We are overjoyed about adding another daughter-in-love to our family," Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar wrote via Instagram to celebrate one of their son’s weddings. "Jed and Katey have enjoyed a quiet, low-key relationship that has allowed them to prepare for a beautiful life together. Congrats to this wonderful couple on their wedding day! Celebrities Who Went From Rags to Riches

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 12:40 PM PST

Started from the bottom now they’re here! Celebrities such as Cardi B, Shia Labeouf and J.K. Rowling worked their way to the top from humble beginnings.

Cardi opened up about her upbringing in the Bronx in an interview with Global Grind in 2016. "I have real good parents, they poor,” the “Money” rapper explained. “They have regular, poor jobs and what not. They real good people and what not, I was just raised in a bad society."

The Grammy winner began working as a stripper at age 19 after she was fired as a cashier at a supermarket. Cardi started at local clubs before she began stripping at upscale establishments in Manhattan. She told Vibe in 2016 that she made the decision to continue to live with her then-boyfriend despite their challenging relationship just so she had a place to stay.

"There was two pitbulls in that house, and I had asthma,” Cardi recalled. “There was bedbugs too. On top of that, I felt like my ex-boyfriend was cheating on me, but it was like even if he was cheating on me, I still can't leave because — where was I gonna go?"

The “I Like It” rapper later found herself becoming a social media influencer after multiple videos went viral of the star candidly discussing making money and men. Cardi quit stripping at age 23 and redirected her career toward music.

She joined season 6 of the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015 before embarking on her rap career. Cardi released her debut single “Bodak Yellow” in 2018, which launched her to superstardom.

LaBeouf, for his part, began working in the entertainment industry at age 10. The Even Stevens alum’s parents — who co-owned a fashion company — separated when he was a child. He told Parade in 2009 that money was a driving factor behind their split.

“It may not be the sole reason for the split, but it is the superficial reason,” he said at the time. “It's the surface reason that you can point at and go, ‘That's the reason.’"

The Honey Boy star added that his parents’ financial situation inspired him to start thinking about his career early on in life.

"I just knew that money was a solution to whatever the hell was going on in my household,” he said. “With money, I and my family would have had more options. So I went after a job that I thought I could make the most money for a 10-year-old or an 11-year-old boy."

Labeouf went on to star in a number of blockbuster films, including Transformers and Indiana Jones.

David Oyelowo
The actor found moderate success in London and moved his family to Los Angeles to find more work — right before the 2008 recession hit. “It got pretty dark for a moment. I’ll never forget, my wife and I got down to our last $3. We couldn’t go to the hole in the wall because we were at rock bottom,” the England native told the London's The Times in December 2020. “And the reason I know it was $3 is because I remember standing in our house and giving her $2 and, almost symbolically, keeping the extra dollar in my wallet. And just feeling like, ‘What did we do coming here? What were we thinking?’" It took a few more years of minor roles, but Oyelowo changed his career trajectory when he landed Lee Daniels' The Butler, which came out in 2013. Mila Kunis
The Bad Moms star immigrated to the U.S. with her family from Soviet Ukraine at age 7. She told "The Kyle and Jackie O Show" podcast in 2016 that she used to eat meals of "ketchup soup" during her childhood. Kunis said that she and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, want to raise their children to appreciate the value of hard work. "I grew up poor. My husband and I both did," she said. "[We] are very aware of what a dollar is worth. Nothing’s been handed to us.” GEORGE FREY/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock
Tyler Perry
The Madea creator struggled with homelessness and poverty before becoming one of the highest-paid men in entertainment. Perry told The Times in 2019 that he was always "running from poverty" in the early days of his career. "For 10, maybe 15 years, I got lost in the madness of it," Perry said at the time. "I didn't want to date, I didn't want kids, I didn't want anything until I'd reached a place where I felt financially comfortable." Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock
Cardi B
The "Press" rapper worked as a stripper for years before she redirected her career as a social media influencer and rapper in 2015. “I have real good parents, they poor. They have regular, poor jobs and what not,” she said in an interview with Global Grind in 2016. “They real good people and what not, I was just raised in a bad society.” Broadimage/Shutterstock
Shia LaBeouf
The Transformer star told Parade in 2009 that being raised poor made him appreciate the money he earned from his acting career. “My dad and my mom were both artists who never found an audience for their artwork," he said at the time. "And so I lived in poverty. Now that I’m not poor, I know that is what it was. Like Hemingway said, you can’t write anything if you’ve never been shot at or been gorged by a bull, you know? So I look back at that stuff and I’m grateful. It’s like scars. You become proud of them.” Rob Latour/Shutterstock
Jewel
The "Hands" singer-songwriter grew up in an Alaskan farmhouse that didn't have indoor plumbing. Jewel and her father often sang together in bars and taverns to earn money. In 1993, Jewel, then a homeless teenager, was discovered by talent manager Inga Vainshtein in a coffee shop in San Diego. The singer's 1995 debut album, Pieces of You, went platinum with the help of singles "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Foolish Games." Greg Doherty/Getty Images
Selena Gomez
The "Good for You" singer, whose parents divorced when she was 5 years old, was raised in Texas by her mother, who gave birth to Gomez at the age of 16. The family often struggled financially during the Disney alum's childhood. In a 2011 E! special, Gomez admitted that her mother had struggled to put dinner on the table, adding, "I remember my mom would run out of gas all of the time and we'd sit there and have to go through the car and get quarters and help her get gas."
Eminem
After being abandoned by his father as an infant, the "Lose Yourself" rapper and his mother frequently moved from state to state during his childhood. They eventually settled in Detroit, where Eminem (born Marshall Mathers) was often bullied and frequently fought with his mom, the latter of which became a common theme in his hit singles. In 9th grade, Eminem dropped out of high school due to truancy and poor grades. After releasing his debut album in 1996, the hip-hop star signed with Dr. Dre in 1998 and became a worldwide sensation, winning numerous Grammys and starring in the hit film 8 Mile. Nicki Minaj
The "Feeling Myself" rapper's life was uprooted at the age of 5 when her family moved from Trinidad to a poor neighborhood in Queens, New York, following a brief stay in the Bronx. Minaj recounted her tough past in a December 2010 interview with Rolling Stone, saying, "When I first came to America, I would ... pray that God would make me rich so that I could take care of my mother." Since signing to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment label in 2009, the MC has become one of the most recognizable names in rap music. John Lamparski/WireImage
Leonardo DiCaprio
The Oscar winner has openly stated through the years that he grew up in a poor neighborhood in Los Angeles, where he was often exposed to drugs and violence at a young age. During his junior year of high school, he dropped out and later earned his GED. At the age of 15, DiCaprio starred alongside famed actor Robert De Niro in 1993's This Boy's Life. He has since portrayed numerous beloved characters in films such as Titanic, Romeo + Juliet, The Aviator and The Great Gatsby. David M. Benett/Dave Benett/Getty Images
Kelly Clarkson
The "Piece by Piece" singer, whose parents divorced when she was 6 years old, grew up in a conservative Texas home. In 2001, she moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a music career. Shortly after arriving in L.A., Clarkson lost her apartment to a devastating fire and was forced to move back to Texas, where she worked at a movie theater, among other low-paying jobs. In 2002, she auditioned for American Idol and  became the singing competition's first winner and one of the best-selling artists of the 2000s. Cindy Ord/Getty Images for SiriusXM
Justin Bieber
The "Purpose" singer was raised by single mother Pattie Mallette (who never married Bieber's father, Jeremy Bieber) in Ontario, Canada. During Justin's childhood, Mallette worked numerous low-paying office jobs and raised her son in a low-income household. As fans know, the heartthrob was discovered by manager Scooter Braun in 2008 and has since become one of the most powerful musicians of the 2010s. Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Sarah Jessica Parker
Before she put Manolo Blahnik on the map as NYC style icon and Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker was raised in a large Manhattan-based family of eight children, and her mother and truck driver stepfather struggled to get by. But after getting her big break in Broadway as the lead in Annie at age 11 circa 1977, Parker's career took off and she's been a film and TV regular ever since. Mike Coppola/Getty Images
Oprah Winfrey
If ever there were proof that hard work and a good attitude can take you far in Hollywood, Oprah Winfrey would be it. The talk show host was born to an unwed teenage mother, raised by her grandmother until she was 6, and later lived with her mother and half-sister in a boardinghouse in Milwaukee. The small family relied on welfare to get by; Winfrey -- who also endured sexual abuse as a young child --  is now reportedly worth $2.7 billion. Christopher Polk/Getty Images
Hilary Swank
Million dollar baby indeed! Hilary Swank, best known for her Academy Award-winning performances in Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby, was raised in a trailer park in Washington by her mother until the age of 15, when her mother lost her job and the pair moved to California in hopes that Swank could make it in Hollywood. The mother-daughter duo slept in their car or at friends’ homes, and Swank would later drop out of high school. Steve Granitz/WireImage
Jim Carrey
One of Hollywood's biggest comedians didn't always have so much to laugh about. The Canadian-born actor had to drop out of high school as a teenager when his father was laid off, taking on a job as a janitor and a security guard in order to help his family scrape by. When the family eventually lost their home, Carrey, his parents and his four siblings lived in a van. Forbes reports that he now makes around $20 million per film. Camila Alves
When Camila Alves first came to the United States from her native Brazil at the age of 15, she worked as a waitress and a house-cleaner in order to make ends meet. Four years later, however, she decided she wanted to stay in America, and launched her modeling career in New York at age 19. She married longtime boyfriend Matthew McConaughey in 2012 and the pair have three children together. GP Images/Getty Images
J.K. Rowling
Her story is a famous one by now: J.K. Rowling, who has made billions from her Harry Potter book series, film franchise and related merchandise (and theme parks!), was once a single mother relying on welfare, battling depression, and the "biggest failure I knew." She penned the manuscript for the Harry Potter series at various cafes throughout Edinburgh during the lowest point of her life, but is now considered one of the most influential women in all of Britain. Jay-Z
His name says it all. Rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z got his start in the Marcy Housing Projects in Brooklyn (off the JMZ subway line), where he was raised by his mother and got involved with crime as youth. The rapper has since moved on to become one of the most successful music moguls in the world, however, dabbling in everything from nightclubs (his 40/40 Club in Manhattan) to clothing (Rocawear) to sports (his Rocnation Sports). Married to Beyonce, he is also part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets. Ari Perilstein/Getty Images for Roc Nation
Shania Twain
One of country music's biggest stars had a bleak time growing up in the wilderness of Timmins, Ontario. Shania Twain's mother split from her father when she was 2, and the household scraped by, often with not enough food to eat or money to pay for heat. As a result, Twain sang in bars at the age of 8 to earn extra income. Twain's mother and stepfather died in a tragic car crash in 1987, causing the singer to put an abrupt hold on her career to return to Ontario to care for her younger siblings. Arnold Schwarzenegger
Arnold Schwarzenegger is living the American Dream. The Austrian-born actor, politician and body-builder had an abusive, alcoholic police chief father growing up, and was often pitted against his brother in fights. As a result, the former California governor refused to attend the funerals of either his father (in 1972) or his brother, who died in a car crash in 1971. Schwarzenegger instead found his escape in movies and in eventually immigrating to the United States in 1968. Franziska Krug/Getty Images for GQ
Leighton Meester
Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf may come from a family with means, but real-life fashionista and actress Leighton Meester wasn't quite so fortunate. The Texas native's mother was serving time in a federal prison when she gave birth to Meester, though The Oranges actress has since explained that she and her younger brother had a normal upbringing despite their slightly more unusual beginnings. Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
Sean “Diddy” Combs
The music mogul's beginnings can be traced back to a public housing project in Harlem, where his father, Melvin Combs, was shot to death at age 33 in a crime linked to his association with New York drug dealer Frank Lucas. Combs attended Howard University as a business major, but dropped out in 1989, opting to instead intern at Uptown Records and later start his own label, Bad Boy Records. The rest is history. Tom Cruise
Before Scientology, before Top Gun, and before Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise was a young lad growing up in Syracuse, New York, with an abusive father and living in poverty. He first got involved with drama in the fourth grade, and after a few different stints in film in the early 1980s, he hit it big with 1986's Top Gun. He is now believed to have a net worth of $270 million. Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for CinemaCon

The Goldbergs’ Jeff Garlin Was ‘Not Fired’ Amid Misconduct Allegations

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 11:12 AM PST

Breaking his silence. Amid the ongoing set investigation into allegations about Jeff Garlin's behavior while filming The Goldbergs, he has refuted the claims of wrongdoing and being removed from the series.

"No, I was not fired from The Goldbergs. I have not been fired from The Goldbergs," Garlin, 59, told Vanity Fair, in an interview published on Friday, December 3, following speculation that he allegedly engaged in a "pattern of verbal and physical conduct that made people uncomfortable."

The Babylon actor continued: "There was no… Nothing physical by any stretch of the imagination. And the verbal part was a joke that was completely missed — because I like this guy. I like his wife. I've worked with them for years. How I suddenly wake up one day and I don't like them — I don't get that. I will say the joke was missed and I apologize to him. If someone misses a joke, that's unfortunate to me. I don't like it."

Garlin, for his part, asserted that "there is no story" about an alleged misconduct incident, claiming that he has a "difference of opinion" regarding the nature of the events with Sony, the studio that produces the ABC series.

"My opinion is, I have my process about how I'm funny, in terms of the scene and what I have to do," Garlin explained to the magazine. "They feel that it makes for a quote 'unsafe' workspace. Now, mind you, my silliness making an unsafe workspace — I don't understand how that is. And I'm on a comedy show. I am always a kind and thoughtful person. I make mistakes, sure. But my comedy is about easing people's pain. Why would I ever want to cause pain in anybody for a laugh? That's bullying. That's just uncalled for."

While the Curb Your Enthusiasm actor did confirm that the studio has investigated his behavior for three years, he dismissed any potential wrongdoing as a "silly" misunderstanding.

"If I said something silly and offensive, and I'm working at an insurance company, I think it's a different situation," Garlin claimed. "If I, as the star of the show, demanded a gun range and on set, and I was firing guns every day and I was a little bit loose — to me, that's an unsafe work atmosphere. If I threatened people, that's an unsafe work atmosphere. None of that goes on ever with me. That's not who I am. I am sorry to tell you that there really is no big story. Unless you want to do a story about political correctness."

The Arrested Development alum told the outlet that he has "never physically come at anyone" and alleged that he discussed his conduct with the crew, claiming that any individuals sharing their version of events "has it out for me."

The Illinois native, who has appeared as Murray Goldberg in nearly 200 episodes since the show's 2013 debut, continued to assert that he has not been let go from the long-running comedic series, which is currently airing its ninth season.

"We're trying to come to a place where we come to an agreement," Garlin told investigative reporter Maureen Ryan, before noting that he doesn't think the show will fire him. "Either I can behave the way [they want] or not. We'll see, but I'm not being fired and I've not been fired. We're in the middle of talking about what we're going to do, but there will not be a firing. I will work more on The Goldbergs, just to let you know, I'm in contact with Sony. I will be shooting more days on the show. When I do shoot more days, just to make it go smooth, I will not be doing any of my silly stuff or anything, out of respect. I'm just going to keep it on the QT, because you know why? They're my bosses. And they have every right to have the set be the way they want."

Sony, for its part, addressed the complaints made against Garlin via a statement.

"The well-being of our cast and crew is of utmost importance to us," a spokesperson for the production company told People on Friday. "This is an employment matter and it is being addressed by HR and production.”

‘Tis the Season! Celebs Show Off Their 2021 Holiday Decor

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 09:30 AM PST

Making spirits bright! Candace Cameron Bure, Joanna Gaines, Bindi Irwin and more celebrities aren't waiting until December to get into the holiday mood — they started decorating as soon as Halloween ended.

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!!! It's happening, people!!!" the Full House alum, 45, wrote via Instagram on November 10, sharing a video of herself putting up her fake tree at home. "The tree is up 🎄and the decorations are just getting started! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 🍁 and Merry Christmas 🎁! Don't try to stop me!"

Gaines, for her part, decorated a special tree with 3-year-old son Crew in early November to mark the start of the season. She also shared a few highlights of Christmas past via her Magnolia blog to get fans just as excited for holiday festivities.

"Our family's tradition of gifting ornaments each year began with [my husband] Chip [Gaines]'s mom, Gayle. The first year that Chip and I were married, I wanted to decorate our Christmas tree based on a specific color story — and decided it would be an all-blue theme," Joanna, 43, wrote in a recent blog. "That same year on Thanksgiving, Gayle gifted us a bright red Radko ornament. Truthfully, I hesitated putting it on the tree because I knew it would throw off my color theme. It makes me laugh now, but at the time I thought, 'Where am I going to put this?'"

The Magnolia Network cofounder noted that she ultimately decided to put her mother-in-law's gift on the tree, which led to their family's tradition of giving each other ornaments as pre-Christmas gifts.

"What I learned to love was this: Though that ornament stuck out in stark contrast to my blue tree, that bright red ornament told a story," she added. "Not only was it a heartfelt gift from Chip's mom, but the ornament signified our first Christmas together, and that made it worthy of the spotlight."

This year, Joanna opted to add a few specialty ornaments to her Magnolia collection that help tell the stories of her own family — including a Sriracha sauce bottle for 15-year-old daughter Ella, who "puts it on everything," according to her mom. Along with Ella and Crew, Joanna shares children Drake, 16, Duke, 13 and Emmie, 11, with Chip, 46.

Relive Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy’s Whirlwind Romance: Photos

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 08:00 AM PST

Young love! Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy had a whirlwind romance worthy of a love song — which the musician seemingly documented in her hit "Begin Again."

The Grammy winner was first linked to Kennedy in the summer of 2012 after she was spotted spending time with the iconic family in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts over the 4th of July.

Swift, who has been vocal about her love for the family over the years, was introduced to Conor after connecting with his aunt Rory Kennedy a year prior.

The "Lover" singer was contacted by Rory for concert tickets in 2011, which is what started her friendship with the family. Swift later attended Sundance Film Festival's January 2012 screening of Ethel, which is Rory's HBO documentary about her mom and Conor's grandmother, Ethel Kennedy.

“She’s a great friend of all of ours,” Rory told reporters during the Television Critics Association panel in August 2012 after she invited Swift to visit the family's compound one month prior. “She’s awesome, and we love her.”

Ethel noted at the time that she wasn't the Conor and the "Evermore" singer's matchmaker, but she did comment on whether she could see Swift becoming a Kennedy down the line. "We should be so lucky," the Kennedy matriarch told reporters at the TCA event.

After initially being linked to Conor's cousin Patrick Schwarzenegger over the American holiday, the "Exile" songstress was spotted spending time with Conor on several occasions during the month of July, before Us Weekly confirmed their romance the following month.

Following the death of his mother, Mary Kennedy, who died by suicide in May 2012, Swift has been a "real shoulder to cry on," a source told Us in August 2012, noting that the country-turned-pop singer is "really smitten" with Conor.

"She's obsessed with the family," a second source exclusively told Us of Swift in August 2012.

The twosome's romance, however, was short lived with them parting ways "quietly" in September of that year, according to an insider.

“It was just a distance thing," the source told Us in October 2012 of the "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" singer and the then-high school senior. "No hard feelings. They’re fine.”

Scroll down to relive their whirlwind romance from beginning to end:

The “Red” singer was seen spending time with Conor in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, throughout the month, shortly after she sparked romance speculation with his cousin Schwarzenegger over the 4th of July. Swift and Schwarzenegger were briefly linked when they were photographed along with some of his family members on the holiday. Things between Swift and Conor heated up in late July as they were seen walking on the beach and playing on a trampoline, according to an eyewitness. “I don’t know how to have a normal relationship because I try to act normal, love from a normal place and live a normal life, but there is sort of an abnormal magnifying glass, like telescope lens, on everything that happens between me and anybody else,” Swift told Katie Couric shortly after news broke that she and Conor had separated. “I don’t really know that much about love, it turns out.” Charles Sykes/Invision/AP/Shutterstock

Standing up for herself. Amid Katie Thurston's burgeoning romance with John Hersey, she has stood up to critics who were skeptical of her new love.

"Life is short. Do what makes you happy. 🤍," the former Bachelorette, 30, captioned a sweet snap of the pair ice skating on Friday, December 3.

In response, several social media users weighed in about their dating timeline via Instagram comment. One even quipped, "Genuine question? Does that mean when you are bored of him you will get another because 'happiness?'"

The former bank marketing manager, for her part, boldly shut down the accusation, replying, "Being 'bored' and being 'unhappy' are very different. If something doesn't bring joy into my life (friendships, relationships, a job, etc.) — yes, I'm going to remove that from my life."

In another comment, an Instagram user noted that "she didn't waste any time" in moving on from her televised engagement with Blake Moynes — which aired during the August finale of The Bachelorette season 17. Thurston clarified that the exes got engaged in April before they eventually called it quits in October.

While several Instagram users took to the social media platform to criticize Thurston, others were more enthusiastic to see the Bachelor season 25 alum move on and happily pursue a romance with the California native, 27.

"It would have never worked for us on the show," the Washington native commented about their newfound relationship. "He was too shy. A solid friendship first built an amazing foundation."

Less than one month after Thurston and Moynes, 31, confirmed they had ended their whirlwind engagement, the Bachelorette season 17 lead and Hersey went Instagram official in November. She closed out her "12 Days of Messy" challenge by dedicating Taylor Swift's "Begin Again (Taylor's Version)" to the bartender — whom she initially sent home during the second week of the ABC series — alongside a montage of sweet moments together.

While fans and the Canada native may have been blindsided by the news of the duo's relationship, Hersey quickly shot down any rumors about the nature of their bond and denied any infidelity on his girlfriend's behalf.

"Katie and I developed an incredible and deep friendship over the last half year or so," Hersey wrote via a lengthy Reddit letter on November 26. “The circumstances by which this friendship formed was a series of crazy, random and coincidental events, that I'm sure you will all hear about at a later time. My point for now is that we were ALWAYS platonic. Even during my short stint on the season, we never had a chance to foster anything romantic (read as: John blew his chance and left the next day hahaha). The boundaries of our friendship with respect to her ongoing relationship never even required addressing, because it was never a thought in our minds that we would ever be anything more."

The new couple's romance has continued to heat up as they've documented their journey via social media. The pair even made their first joint red carpet appearance on Thursday, December 2, at mutual friend Stephen Lovegrove's First Noelle Ball. The couple, who shared plenty of event snaps via Instagram Stories, also sweetly packed on the PDA while posing on the carpet.

It's never easy to say goodbye. Larry King, Christopher Plummer and Cecily Tyson are among the celebrities who died in 2021, leaving those in their wake heartbroken.

Dustin Diamond died on February 1 at age 44 after a battle with stage IV small cell carcinoma. "He was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago. In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution," his rep told Us Weekly in a statement at the time. "Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful."

The actor's Saved by the Bell costars paid tribute to him after news of his death. "I'm deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dustin Diamond, a true comedic genius. My sincere condolences to his family and friends," Mark-Paul Gosselaar told Us in a statement. "Looking back at our time working together, I will miss those raw, brilliant sparks that only he was able to produce. A pie in your face, my comrade."

Mario Lopez, meanwhile, wrote via Instagram: "Dustin, you will be missed my man. The fragility of this life is something never to be taken for granted. Prayers for your family will continue on."

Tiffani Thiessen echoed Lopez's sentiments in an Instagram post of her own. "I am deeply saddened by the news of my old co-star @realdustindiamond passing," she captioned a photo of Diamond. "Life is extremely fragile and it's something we should never take for granted. God speed Dustin."

Later that month, fans lost an iconic figure in Christopher Plummer, who died at age 91. "Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words," his longtime manager said in a statement to Us on February 5. "He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us."

The Oscar winner's Sound of Music costar Julie Andrews honored him after his death. "The world has lost a consummate actor today. And I have lost a cherished friend," the actress told Us in a statement. "I treasure the memories of our work together and all the humor and fun we shared through the years. Best Celebrity Holiday Cards of All Time

Posted: 04 Dec 2021 06:20 AM PST

These stars have always given Us another reason to look forward to the most wonderful time of the year! The countdown to Christmas is made all the more exciting with the arrival of some of our favorite stars' holiday cards.

The Kardashian-Jenner bunch are known for their lavish annual Christmas parties, but they can also put together a top-notch holiday card. The reality TV family have opted for more simple photos, like 2012's all-white pic, to more intricate portraits, including their carnival-themed card in 2013.

For 2018's edition, the famous siblings — with the exception of Kendall Jenner and Rob Kardashian — posed with their children for an adorable snapshot.

"Merry Christmas!! We all wish you love and harmony," Khloé Kardashian wrote at the time. "So far this is by far my most favorite of any Christmas. I have all I could ever want. FAMILY."

Jessica Alba and her husband, Cash Warren, go all-out for their family's annual holiday card as well, as they have posed with their children, Honor, Haven and Hayes, in matching onesies. When reflecting on 2017's edition, the film producer noted that this would be the last holiday card he'd be the only guy in the photo since the Honest Beauty founder was expecting their son, Hayes.

"I'm having a moment," he wrote via Instagram. "Merry Christmas Eve!! Tried to convince Haven that today was Christmas and Santa forgot about her but she saw right through it. Smart kid."

The British royal family are also no stranger to joining forces for an annual Christmas card. In December 2018, Kensington Palace unveiled a sweet photo of Duchess Kate and Prince William posing with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The photo showed the family of five smiling at Anmer Hall while surrounded by nature.

Holiday cards have proven to be a tradition in the royal family, as they send roughly 750 cards each year. However, the beloved Brits participate in many more customs around the holidays, including attending church on Christmas morning. "The queen regards the festive season as a deeply religious occasion," a source told Us Weekly exclusively in December 2018.

From the Kardashian clan to the royal family, these star-studded season's greetings cards get Us into the holiday spirit.

The longtime couple, who met back in 2014 while attending the same events (Will was runner-up on the aforementioned cycle 21 of America's Next Top Model and James competed in the 2013 CW series Capture alongside his sister Rebecca), had to postpone the nuptials three times due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“We knew it was the right thing in order to eventually celebrate safely with our loved ones,” Will and James tell Us. “We think it all worked out the way it was always meant to be because the date all our vendors were available was December 3, which after thinking back on it, happened to be the exact date we crossed The Amazing Race finish line in New Orleans and got engaged. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out and can't thank our vendors enough for being flexible with us over this past year.”

The newlyweds will head on their honeymoon in the new year. “We are traveling with Hurtigruten Expeditions for a nine-day cruise to the Galapagos with a pit stop for two days in the Amazon of Ecuador!” they say. “We've been itching to travel abroad again.” James has visited before and is “looking forward to experiencing it with Will.”

After that, the couple will work on expanding their brood. “We’re most excited to start a family together,” Will and James tell Us. “We've talked about adopting kids ever since we first met and we're even more so looking forward to the process because of how positive the experience was of reconnecting with James’ birth mom in 2017.”

James “loved being able to share that special moment with Will,” who for his part, is “ready for the next chapter.” He adds, “We’ve been in this wedding phase for the past three years and finally being able to relax and start a new adventure together is so exciting. James is my favorite person to do life with and no matter what’s next we are ready to tackle it head on!”

Getting engaged on the mat at the finish line of the long-running CBS series was extra special for the pair who grew up watching the show.

"Watching reality TV was our first exposure to LGBTQ people in the real setting that weren't actors or weren't portraying some story in a movie or a television show," Will previously told Us after their win in early 2021. "That became our outlet as young people to see real people living out their truth. So for us be able to run the race as a gay couple – for the show to never mention that we're gay, to just refer to us as a dating couple – was huge. And then to end the season with us winning and then also getting engaged was massive for the show to showcase that."
