Actor Michael Rapaport Catches Brazen Shoplifter In Act

A brazen New York City shoplifter filled his bag with all kinds of goods and simply walked out of a Manhattan Rite Aid, according to videos that have been circulating on social media.

The videos, which were recorded and posted by actor Michael Rapaport, shows the alleged shoplifter strolling by a security guy with the stolen goods and then casually walking down the street.

Rapaport Shocked

As reported by The New York Post, the videos show that Rappaport was shocked by what he witnessed.

"I can't believe I'm seeing this sh*t," he can be heard saying in one of the clips.

"This f**king guy just filled his two bags up with everything in Rite Aid, right here on 80th [Street] and First Avenue is walking down the street like s**t is Gucci. I was watching him the whole time."

"Looking me in my face like ‘What’s good?.' My man just went Christmas shopping in January. He had the condoms, the shampoo," the actor adds.

Rappaport posted the videos to several social media platforms, including Twitter and Instagram.

He also made sure to tag New York City Mayor Eric Adams, writing that stores in the city are closing "because of this, leaving workers JOBLESS."

Even some celebrities reacted to the videos, with Save by the Bell actor Mario Lopez writing, "Dude looked up at Security and said… ‘Sup?"

The New York Police Department told The Post there was no report on file for the incident, while Rite Aid did not respond to requests for comment.

Reactions

Many media users were shocked by the clip Rappaport posted to Twitter, while some made excuses for the shoplifter.

"Oh no, a non violent crime. The world is ending. How will rite aid ever recover from this $37 loss," one person wrote.

"Y’all need to mind y’all business. What did any of that have to do with you? Rite aid is insured, the security ain’t scuffling with dude. Stay in your lane," another one added.

"The real question is why is a person in a situation where they need to steal shampoo. Did you offer to buy it for them? Do we know the story behind this?" a third Twitter user asked.

Shoplifting On Rise

Shoplifting is on the rise across the United States, according to a report from Bloomberg.

In fact, it has risen so sharply that retailers have been pressuring lawmakers to take retail crime more seriously. In December, 20 CEOs signed a letter urging Congress to immediately take action and pass legislation requiring online marketplaces to verify third-party sellers’ identities.

Per the report, research shows that shoplifters typically steal more expensive items, such as razor blades and cosmetics, and then resell them online.

Michael Avenatti To Represent Himself In Stormy Daniels Case

Lawyer Michael Avenatti rose to national prominence in 2016, when he began representing adult film actress Stormy Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford.

Daniels allegedly had a sexual encounter with former President Donald Trump back in 2006, and was paid to keep the affair quiet when Trump first ran for president

.

Avenatti became a liberal hero when alleged hush payments to Daniels became known to the public, making frequent appearances on CNN and MSNBC.

But Avenatti and Daniels soon had a falling out.

Book Deal

In April 2018, Daniels signed a book contract with St. Martin's Press, and agreed to receive an $800,000 advance in four separate payments.

According to The Washington Examiner, the first payment went fine, but when she was about to receive the second payment Daniels told Avenatti she wanted to create a new bank account.

And she did, but Avenatti redirected all the money the actress was supposed to receive to his own bank accounts, according to indictments, therefore committing fraud.

Avenatti Indictment

According to the indictment, Daniels was completely unaware that Avenatti was sending money to himself. She repeatedly asked him to pressure the publisher, but he lied, accusing the publisher of withholding payments.

The indictment says that the lawyer "did not tell Daniels that he had already received the payment into the Avenatti client account more than two weeks earlier, but instead misleadingly and fraudulently stated, 'On it. We need to make sure we have the publicity requirement met.'"

Daniels Vs. Avenatti

Daniels realized Avenatti was stealing money from her in Feburary 2019, when she got in touch with the publisher and was told that the payments were being sent out regularly.

At that point, Daniels also realized that Avenatti forged her signature in order to carry out his scheme.

Avenatti allegedly stole $300,000 from Daniels in total. He spent thousands to cover the monthly lease for his Ferrari, pad for insurance premiums, purchased clothes and accommodation, bought expensive meals and plane tickets.

Avenatti Now Representing Himself

Avenatti, who is being tried in Manhattan federal court, asked on the second day of the proceeding for permission to represent himself, claiming to have had a "breakdown" with his lawyers.

As ABC News reported, Judge Jesse Furman granted the request, but expressed concern over Avenatti trying to testify without actually taking the witness stand, like his attorneys said he would.

The fact that Avenatti -- who has pleaded not guilty -- has been allowed to represent himself means he will most likely get to cross-examine Daniels.

The Dubs Want To Find Their Groove Back

Losing Draymond Green has been a massive blow for the Warriors. They miss his defensive versatility, vocal leadership, and top-notch basketball IQ and playmaking skills.

Stephen Curry's field goal percentage has plummeted since the start of 2022. He went from the leading candidate to win MVP to an ice-cold shooter, far from the efficient scorer he's been throughout his entire career.

Then again, the Dubs still boast one of the best squads in the Association and have enough depth to overcome Curry's shooting woes, with Jordan Poole continuing to blossom as a prolific scorer.

Klay Needs To Shake The Rust Off

It was only natural to think that Klay Thompson would need some time to get his legs back under him. He was sidelined for two years, first with a knee injury and then with an Achilles tear.

He's been far from efficient since coming back, averaging roughly 14.7 points with 2.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 three-pointers per game on 38.8% from the floor and 33.3% from beyond the arc.

Needless to say, the Warriors should dominate the Timberwolves if they have a vintage performance from their fellow Splash Brother.

Injuries, Trends, And Key Numbers

Both Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves will be nearly at full strength for this matchup, with the exceptions of Patrick Beverley for the visitors and Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, and Otto Porter Jr. for the home side, per NBC Sports Edge.

The Warriors currently boast the best defense in the Association, allowing just 101.6 points per game. They also rank 12th in offense (109.9 points per game), and 1st in Net Rating (+8.38), according to Basketball-Reference.

In contrast, the Timberwolves have the 10th-worst defense in the league (109.9 points allowed) but run the 9th-best offense (110.9 points).

Picks And Predictions

The Minnesota Timberwolves are up and coming and have looked pretty solid when they have their Big 3 at full strength. Anthony Edwards is quietly having an All-Star caliber season and Karl-Anthony Towns should give the Golden State Warriors plenty of trouble in the paint.

That being said, the Dubs' defense is far superior and they're one of the strongest teams in the league when they play at home, while the Timberwolves haven't exactly been great against winning teams.

NFL Rumors: 3 Buccaneers Trade Targets Tom Brady Retires

As much as we want him to play forever, Tom Brady has already given more than enough to the NFL, football, and sports as a whole.

The New England Patriots legend may have played his final game in this league, failing to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the Super Bowl for the second time in as many seasons.

Brady always said he intended to play until he was 45 but after leading the league in touchdowns and passing yards, most expected him to come back next season. Now, we're not so sure.

Brady Doesn't Commit To Coming Back In 2022

Brady recently said that he won't rush his decision and will discuss it with his family, leaving the door open for retirement:

“I haven’t put a lot of thought into it,” Brady told the media, as quoted by Pro Football Talk. “So we’ll take it day by day and see where we’re at. I’m thinking about this game, and not thinking about anything past five minutes from now."

So, with his potential departure just around the corner, let's take a look at the 3 trade targets the Bucs should consider:

3. Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career and some doubt he'll ever live up to the expectations that come with being the first-overall pick. He held the Cleveland Browns back and watching Odell Beckham Jr thrive with the Rams is proof of that.

That being said, Mayfield is still just 26 years old and, to be fair, he was pretty banged up for most of the season. He'll be extra motivated to prove his doubters wrong once he's healthy, and he'll have plenty of weapons at his disposal.

2. Russell Wilson

Likewise, Russell Wilson isn't exactly coming off an All-Pro kind of season. He struggled to gain ground with his feet and was erratic when called upon to take over games.

But just like Mayfield, Wilson was barely healthy throughout the season. Also, there's only so much he can do with that terrible offensive line and defense. The Seattle Seahawks are due for a rebuild and Wilson may not want to take part in it at this point in his career.

The talent is undeniable and so is the upside, but it also comes with some risk.

1. Derek Carr

Derek Carr doesn't have the highest ceiling but he would be by far the safest bet for the Buccaneers.

He's reportedly ready to part ways with the Las Vegas Raiders if they don't sign Ray Bisaccia as their head coach, and he's the kind of respected, vocal leader the Bucs would need to fill in for Brady.

Carr has never had the weapons he'd have in Tampa Bay, and while he's failed to prove his worth in the playoffs, he's been great in the clutch and has a reliable arm. It would be a smooth transition for a team that's already made to pursue a championship.

Following a big win over the Brooklyn Nets, the Los Angeles Lakers will continue their trip on the East Coast by visiting the Philadelphia 76ers at Wells Fargo Center.

LeBron James continues to play at the highest level and has recently entered the MVP conversation again, but he'll need plenty of help from his supporting cast to turn his team's poor season around.

For the Sixers, Joel Embiid has been on a roll and continues to dominate on both ends of the floor, although they've clearly missed Ben Simmons' playmaking and defensive versatility.

Lakers Want To Make A Run

The Los Angeles Lakers have been far from the championship contender they thought they'd be at the start of the season. The Russell Westbrook experiment has failed miserably and they're not likely to make any big moves as they don't have valuable trade assets.

Right now, Frank Vogel's side is holding on to the eighth seed in the Western Conference, so they'll need to make a big push in the second half of the season if they want to avoid the play-in tournament.

Anthony Davis Is Finally Back

After more than a month on the shelf, Anthony Davis was able to be back on the court in the Lakers' win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Davis was on the floor for 24 minutes but only managed to score 8 points with 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 4 blocks while shooting 3/8 from the floor.

The Sixers will also have a top-tier reinforcement back for this game, as defensive standout Mattise Thybule has been cleared to join the team again after nursing a sprained right shoulder. His return is a massive boost for Doc Rivers' defense.

Key Injuries, Stats, And Trends

Besides Ben Simmons, the Sixers will be without sharpshooters Seth Curry, Shake Milton, and Danny Green for this matchup. For the Lakers, Kendrick Nunn will remain on the sidelines, per Rotoworld.

The Los Angeles Lakers have the third-worst scoring defense in the Association, giving up 112.3 points per game. They also have the ninth-worst net rating at -1.1, according to Basketball-Reference.

The Sixers, on the other hand, have the eighth-best defense in the league at just 105.7 points allowed per game, also boasting the 10th-highest offensive rating at 111.6 points per 100 possessions.

Picks And Predictions

Getting Anthony Davis back is huge for the Lakers but facing off against the center-less Brooklyn Nets won't be enough to shake off the rust.

Joel Embiid is playing at an MVP level and has been the best big man in the NBA this season, and we like his chances to keep the streak going even against a top-notch rim protector such as Davis.

The Lakers have been erratic at best and have failed to string two good games together for most of the season. So, even if Doc Rivers' rotations leave a lot to be desired, we still think they can win this game as they have Mattise Thybulle's defensive presence lurking around the court again. It'll be close and high scoring, but the Sixers will get the dub.
