NFL Rumors: Potential Trade Destinations For Derek Carr Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:18 AM PST The Las Vegas Raiders were the most resilient team in the NFL this season, overcoming several major issues off the field to clinch a playoff berth against all odds. A lot of that credit should go to Derek Carr, who's been deemed the MVP by his Raiders teammates and has earned a reputation of being a strong, fair leader in the locker room. But as it usually happens in this business, no one's ever safe in the NFL, and Carr isn't the exception to that rule. Carr May Request A TradeNow, at the end of the season, the Raiders may be left with more questions than answers, as they have yet to make a decision on their new HC. Moreover, Ian Rapoport recently claimed that Carr could request a trade if Ray Bisaccia doesn't get the job: "My understanding is that [Carr's] future is uncertain in Las Vegas. As it is explained to me, the Raiders and Derek Carr have a mutual decision to make this offseason." Rapoport said, per Sportscasting. "And the choice of head coach will, I'm told, be a factor. Derek Carr has said very publically and several times that his preference is to stay with the Raiders." 3. Carolina Panthers![]() There are a lot of unanswered questions in Carolina and some believe that Matt Rhule wasn't the right choice for the Panthers. But if the team decides to run it back and hires a competent offensive coordinator, then Carr might as well be the QB they've been looking for over the past couple of years. The Panthers are already paying Cam Newton, Cam Newton's replacement, and Cam Newton replacement's replacement, so the setting may not be ideal. Then again, they could be in the mix for a playoff spot if Christian McCaffrey manages to stay healthy. 2. Pittsburgh Steelers![]() Moving on from a Hall of Famer quarterback isn't an easy task, and the Pittsburgh Steelers will be in for a long season unless they make an aggressive move. They might take a QB in the Draft but their defense is ready to compete right away and there's no point in wasting another year. Carr would have some decent weapons at his disposal and one of the league's up-and-coming RBs in Najee Harris. If the Steelers' line gave what was left of Ben Roethlisberger some time to operate, then Carr should excel as his replacement. Indianapolis Colts![]() The Indianapolis Colts tried their luck with Carson Wentz and we all saw how that went. The Colts had a stout defense and one of the best running games in the league, yet their QB miserably failed to deliver over and over. Wentz isn't likely to be a starter in the league anymore unless a desperate team falls in that trap again. Carr would give the Colts a strong presence in the locker room while also being a massive upgrade over in nearly every aspect of the game in comparison to Wentz. ]]> |
Willem Dafoe To Host 'Saturday Night Live' With Katy Perry As Musical Guest Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:12 AM PST Willem Dafoe is set to make his Saturday Night Live hosting debut on January 29 and he will be joined by Katy Perry as the musical guest. The 66-year-old actor, who is a four-time Oscar nominee, has never hosted SNL before. His reprisal of Green Goblin in _Spider-Man: No Way Home_has put him back in the spotlight, making it the perfect time to kick-off his SNL appearance. Scroll down for more this story. Doing His Own Stunts![]() Dafoe first played the Green Goblin role in Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man, where he played opposite Tobey Maguire. His impressive portrayal of the villain made the role so iconic. While the Goblin dies after his stand-off with Maguire's Spider-Man, the multiverse made it possible for the character to come back. According to Dafoe, he agreed to return as long as he can do his own stunts in Spider-Man: No Way Home. "It's really impossible to just add any integrity or any fun to the character if you don't participate in these things. All that action stuff informs your relationship to the characters in the story. And also makes you earn your right to play the character," he said in an interview. Keeping His Identity Secret![]() Reprising his role proved to be a big challenge, as Dafoe had to keep his identity a secret during filming. "When I'd go to set, they put me in a black cloak and always had me in a car with dark windows. And they didn't want me hanging out anyplace because they didn't want anyone to know I was in town making a movie," he shared in The Tonight Show. "And I didn't think it would work, but actually, it did," Dafoe said. "Only just before the movie was released they started kind of hinting things in the trailers. So it was cool." Tom Holland On First Meeting Dafoe![]() Apparently, Marvel was so secretive that even Tom Holland didn't know about the Goblin's return. "There was actually a funny story about when I met Willem for the first time, because obviously at that time, all of the villains in the film, it was a huge secret that they were in the film, so they would walk around set with these cloaks on," Tom shared. "And I just sort of bumped into this guy in a cloak and was like, "Watch out, mate." And he took his hood off and I almost, like, got really scared. I was like "oh sh*t, the Goblin's here!" Katy Perry Will Perform On SNL![]() Aside from Dafoe's hosting and possible Spider-Man and Green Goblin references in the upcoming episode, we can also look forward to Katy Perry performing on the stage of SNL. This will be her fourth appearance in the show. The American Idol judge has hosted back in 2011 and has been a musical guest three times. ]]> |
Texans GM Says Deshaun Watson Won't Play For Them Again, Discusses Possible Trades Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:06 AM PST It was a tough season for the Houston Texans. They didn't have Deshaun Watson under center, coach David Culley struggled to make adjustments, and they finished with the worst record in the NFL. To make things even worst, they don't even have a Head Coach anymore and the future of their franchise QB is murky at best. The Texans are likely to go through a major rebuild and it will take some time before they're competitive again, but GM Nick Caseiro is confident in the future of the franchise. Watson Won't Play For Texans Again, Says GM![]() In a recent interview with SportsRadio 610, Caserio admitted that the franchise has come to peace with the fact that Watson isn't likely to play another snap for them ever again: "There's been some commentary that more than likely would not be the case," Caserio said, as quoted by NFL.com. "I think we just have to be open-minded and just take the information and process it, then ultimately make the decision we feel makes the most sense for everybody involved, whatever that looks like." There's League-Wide Interest In WatsonThe Clemson product is currently facing up to 22 civil lawsuits for sexual misconduct but hasn't been criminally charged, thus the NFL didn't actually suspend him. There's growing optimism around the league that his legal turmoil will be settled sooner rather than later, and several QB-needy teams will line up to make a run at him. Watson was eager to veto his no-trade clause to play for Brian Flores and the Miami Dolphins, but now that they've fired him, they're not likely to have a shot at him, per Pro Football Rumors. Now, the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cleveland Browns all emerge as potential destinations. Texans Will Listen To Offers For The Third-Overall Pick![]() The Texans will have the third-overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, which is stacked with potential franchise-changing players. Nonetheless, they're more than willing to listen to offers and move that pick at the right price: "Absolutely. Always open for business. You never want to limit yourself," Caserio admitted. "I've always been open-minded when it comes to the draft. ... Every team and every individual has a different philosophy. 'We're not gonna trade, we're always going to pick, we're not going to move.' I think we're a little bit more open-minded, progressive thinking, move up and down. And it's not just move to move." Caserio Says They're Open For Business![]() The GM said that the team will be open for business and willing to engage in talks with every other team for a potential move: "Trades, specific to the draft, are always driven by A) player availability, B) where are you moving, what are you moving away from, and then C) what are you getting in return in terms of assets that can potentially fill out the rest of your team. So we're rolling up our sleeves right now, going through that draft process," Caserio explained. "There's a number of a good players that will be available. Again, we're open for business on anything." It'll take a lot to lead the Texans back to contention, so they better make the most of the valuable assets they have right now. ]]> |
Dak Prescott Issues Apology Over Comments On NFL Referees Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:45 AM PST The Dallas Cowboys' season came to an early end, as they couldn't keep up with the San Francisco 49ers at AT&T Stadium. Mike McCarthy's team had a shot at tying the game and even winning, but he called a QB Draw with no timeouts left. The Cowboys tried to line up quickly and blocked the official from touching the football as the rules state. The game was over and fans were far from satisfied with the referees, throwing thrash at them from the stands. Prescott Thought Fans Threw Debris At The PlayersWhen asked about the situation, Dak Prescott thought the fans were throwing debris at the players. He called them out and claimed that no one wants to win more than them: "No, I didn't see that. It's sad. You're talking about a team, you're talking about men coming out each and every day of their lives and give everything to this sport, give everything to this game of football," Dak said after the game, as quoted by FanSided. "Nobody wants to succeed more than we want to succeed," Prescott added. "I understand fans and the word 'fan' for fanatic, I get that. But to know everything that we put into this, day in and day out, try our hardest, nobody comes into the game wanting or expecting to lose, and for people to react that way when you're supposed to be a supporter and be with us through thick and thin, that's tough." Dak Was Glad The Fans Threw Thrash At Officials![]() But when someone clarified that the fans were throwing trash at the referees, not the players, Prescott had a somewhat shocking response: "Credit to them then. Credit to them," the QB said." Some in attendance were in disbelief of Prescott's words, so they asked him thoughts on the situation again. Instead of backpedaling, the gunslinger doubled down on his controversial take: "If the fans felt the same way as us and that's what they were doing it for, yeah, I'm guessing that's why the refs took off and got out of there so fast," Dak added. "Yeah, I think everybody is upset with the way that this thing played out. I'm sure a fan would feel the same way that we do." Prescott Changes Stance, Apologizes For His Comments![]() Needless to say, Prescott's comments drew plenty of criticism around social media and the sports community, which is why he had no choice but to change his stance and issue an apology on Twitter: "I deeply regret the comments I made regarding the officials after the game on Sunday," Prescott wrote. "I was caught up in the emotion of a disappointing loss and my words were uncalled for and unfair." "I hold the NFL Officials in the highest regard and have always respected their professionalism and the difficulty of their jobs," he added on a follow-up tweet. "The safety of everyone who attends a game or participates on the field of a sporting event is a very serious matter. That was a mistake on my behalf, and I am sorry." NBA Referees Call Out Dak Prescott![]() The NFL has yet to make a statement regarding Prescott's comments but he's likely to be fined. The NBA Referees Association, however, did call him out for inciting violence: "The NBRA condemns the comments by Dak Prescott condoning violence against game officials," they wrote in a statement. "As an NFL leader, he should know better. We encourage the NFL to take action to discourage this deplorable behavior in the future." Dak should've known better than this. Nobody likes to lose, but there's no place for violence in sports. ]]> |
Seahawks Looking To Hire New DC Amid Russell Wilson's Uncertain Future Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:41 AM PST Not so long ago, the Seattle Seahawks boasted one of the greatest, most dominant defenses in NFL history. Those days are far behind them, and the Legion of Boom is nothing but a distant memory of a team that's far behind the rest of their division. That's why, in an attempt to go back to their winning ways, they let go of both defensive passing game coordinator Andre Curtis and Defensive Coordinator Ken Norton Jr. Unfortunately, that may not be enough to keep up with the rest of the NFC West. Seahawks Fire DC Ken Norton Jr.![]() The Seahawks' pass defense allowed countless big plays and they weren't much better against the run, either: "Defensively, we didn't start fast enough in this season again," HC Pete Carroll said, as quoted by Sports Illustrated. "That's two times in a row we didn't start fast enough, and we found ourselves and put up some good numbers that indicate how you're playing. Just all of that just didn't happen soon enough." Now, they're eyeing Denver Broncos DC Ed Donatell as the guy who could solve their season-long woes. Pete Carroll Says The Seahawks Need To Get Better In All Phases![]() It was a down season overall for the once-feared Seahawks. But even though some point the finger at their defense and others to Russell Wilson's regression, HC Pete Carroll looked at the whole picture: "We've got to be better in all phases. It's the first thing. And it's not just one guy," Carroll told the media, per ProFootballTalk. "But I know that it took Russ time to get back after the time off and it wasn't quite the same. He could still play and do well and do lots of things but he just had to work his way through it. I think it's a little bit of everything. You know, we got to get to be better in all ways. I think it's been a challenge in that regard, physically." Wilson's Future Is Still Up In The Air![]() All this is happening while the Seahawks don't even know who'll start at QB next season. Some people claim Russell Wilson and the front office aren't on the same page, and truth be told, the team is due for a rebuild: "I know for me personally, I hope it's not my last game. But at the same time, I know it won't be my last game in the NFL," Wilson told ProFootballTalk. "I'm just focused on today and getting better today. That's my goal. I love this city and I love this moment. I love these guys and we gotta make sure we get better today. That's all that matters. There's A Lot Of Interest In Russell WilsonWilson is coming off his worst season since entering the league. He threw for 3,113 yards with 25 touchdowns against 6 picks, and wasn't exactly explosive on the ground either. Even so, he's still one of the all-time great dual-threat quarterbacks and there are several teams craving an upgrade at that position. According to rumors, the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, and even Minnesota Vikings would consider making a move at him, should the Seahawks make him available as expected. ]]> |
Browns' DT Malik McDowell Arrested In Florida After Beating A Police Officer Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:36 AM PST It seems like every other week, another NFL player makes the news for all the wrong reasons. This time, it was Cleveland Browns' defensive tackle, Malik McDowell, the one to steal all the headlines for nothing related to football. According to USA Today, the former Seattle Seahawks player was arrested in South Florida after exposing himself near a children's learning center, resisting arrest, and even beating down a police officer. Moreover, this isn't his first run-in with law enforcement throughout his career. McDowell Exposed Himself Near A School And Assaulted A Police Officer![]() The Browns DT was arrested on Monday by the Broward Sheriff's Office and charged with indecent exposure in public, resisting arrest, and aggravated battery on a law enforcement official. Apparently, he was disoriented and completely naked when he entered a learning center: "An officer whose name was redacted from the arrest report stated he responded Monday to a call about a naked man walking near a school, which, according to the Sun Sentinel, Assistant State Attorney Eric Linder told Francois was actually a learning center for children that was in session when McDowell went onto the property," USA Today reported. His Attorney Says Someone Drugged Him![]() McDowell's attorney, Adam Swickle, claims his client was drugged without his consent or knowledge: "Apparently somebody may have slipped him something or given [McDowell] something that he was unaware of, which explains some of this bizarre behavior," Swickle said. "We're investigating the totality of the circumstances. You never know where that's necessarily going to lead," he added. "We're obviously exploring all issues related to his arrest." While there's no evidence of someone slipping someone on his drink, that would explain the erratic behavior that led to the arrest. He's Got A Long History With Off-Field Issues![]() Nonetheless, it's not like this is the first time that McDowell has been involved in this kind of situation. Following a head injury suffered shortly after entering the league, McDowell has also missed plenty of time due to multiple suspensions. He's been charged with a DUI and disorderly conduct, assault, resisting arrest, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Also, he was sentenced to 11 months in jail in 2019 after an altercation with the police. Seattle released McDowell in March of 2019, and the league suspended him for two games. Later in 2019, McDowell was sentenced t Browns Release A Statement On McDowell's Situation![]() McDowell was on a "prove it" one-year deal after all his off-field issues. And, even though he fared pretty well throughout the season, he's unlikely to stay with the team after this incident: "We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information," the Browns said in a statement, per NFL.com.. "We understand the severity of this matter and our thoughts are for the well-being of all involved. We will have no further comment at this time." The Michigan State product had 33 tackles (seven for a loss), five QB hits, one fumble recovery, and three sacks across 15 games (14 starts) this season. Unfortunately, he may not play another snap in the NFL. ]]> |
NBA Rumors: Sixers Could Trade Ben Simmons, Tyrese Maxey & Matisse Thybulle For Damian Lillard Posted: 19 Jan 2022 07:27 AM PST Less than a month before the 2022 NBA trade deadline, Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons remains one of the hottest commodities on the trade market. Though the Sixers are still making efforts to convince him to stay and rejoin them in the 2021-22 NBA season, Simmons looked determined to leave the City of Brotherly Love. As of now, the Sixers continue to receive trade offers for their disgruntled superstar. However, since the 2021 NBA offseason, Sixers president of basketball operations has been insisting that they would only accept a trade package that includes an All-Star caliber player. Sixers Fans' Dream Trade Scenario![]() In a recent article, Lee Tran of Fadeaway World discussed a hypothetical blockbuster trade that Sixers' fans "would love to see" happen before the 2022 NBA trade deadline. The suggested deal would involve one of the Sixers' dream trade targets - Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard. In the proposed trade scenario, the Sixers would be sending a trade package that includes Simmons, Tyrese Maxey, and Matisse Thybulle to the Trail Blazers in exchange for Lillard. If the trade becomes a reality, Tran believes it would help the Sixers and the Trail Blazers in filling up the needs to improve on their roster. Sixers Take A Risk On Damian Lillard![]() Though he's among their top trade targets in the deal involving Simmons, the proposed blockbuster trade comes with a huge risk for the Sixers since Lillard is currently out with an injury. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, the Trail Blazers superstar recently underwent an abdominal surgery that is expected to put him on the sideline for at least six to eight weeks. However, Lillard would undeniably be a worthy gamble for the Sixers, especially if he could fully recover before the real battle begins in the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Damian Lillard Boosts Sixers' OffenseLillard would be an incredible addition to the Sixers. His potential arrival in the City of Brotherly Love would help the Sixers improve their offensive efficiency that currently ranks No. 11 in the league, scoring 108.4 points per 100 possessions, per ESPN. He would give them a prolific scorer, a great playmaker, and an elite three-point shooter. This season, Lillard is averaging 24.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists while shooting 40.2 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from beyond the arc, per ESPN. Adding Lillard to the core of Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris, Seth Curry, and Danny Green would give the Sixers a realistic chance of beating Eastern Conference powerhouse teams like the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, and the Miami Heat in a best-of-seven series. Trail Blazers Rebuild Team Around Ben Simmons![]() Meanwhile, the proposed blockbuster trade with the Sixers would help the Trail Blazers face the inevitable. Like Simmons and the Sixers, the relationship between Lillard and the Trail Blazers doesn't seem to be destined to last. Instead of being stuck in mediocrity with Lillard as their main guy, trading him to the Sixers would give them the assets that they need to undergo a full-scale rebuild. Simmons would become the new centerpiece of the Trail Blazers' roster, while Maxey and Thybulle would give them two very promising players with huge superstar potential. ]]> |
