"It's a strange thing to end the year with all this positivity — with so much praise for Belfast and a lot of good talk about The Tourist," the 39-year-old actor told The Telegraph in an interview published on Saturday, January 1. "Because on many levels it's been the worst year of my life, and the hardest."

The Fifty Shades of Grey star lost his father to COVID-19 in March 2021 while he was quarantining in Australia ahead of filming The Tourist for five months. Jamie — whose mother, Lorna, died when he was only 16 years old — has yet to be able to properly celebrate his dad's life with a funeral amid the coronavirus lockdowns and his work schedule.

"Truly, you could search far and wide and it would be very hard to find something negative to say about my dad. He was a beacon of positivity — that is my overriding takeaway," the Northern Ireland native said of his late father who was an obstetrician and gynecologist working on a professorship in the Middle East before his passing.

The Endings, Beginnings actor continued: "His kindness, his willingness to talk to anybody and everybody. He used to say, 'You treat the person who cleans the court the same as you treat the judge.' Dad had time for everybody."

Jamie is still processing the loss after being apart from his dad for 18 months prior to his death. The pair were stuck in different countries amid the pandemic.

"I've tried to take that into my own life. We're talking about a professor of medicine here, an insanely intelligent man. He was so positive," the Belfast star explained. "He would say, 'This has happened, how do we move forward and get something good out of this?'"

Jamie noted that his father's advice after they lost his mom to pancreatic cancer early in his life is important as he moves forward. His dad once told him, "Don't let this be the thing that defines you," and he's tried to make sure the heartbreak isn't all people see.

The Robin Hood actor admitted that you "wear it and it shapes you and colors you forever," but you can also grow from loss.

"[Your] life will never be the same again, but you can't lead with it," Jamie said of his mom's passing. "I am probably a much stronger person as a result. I was young and naive and I had to grow up really fast. I had to find a strength and resilience that I didn't know I had."

While Jamie has dealt with personal pain in 2021 his professional career has been on an uptick. He was nominated for a 2022 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for 2021's Belfast.

When it comes to the 2022 Oscars, he is also a top contender to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the same film.

“We are completely head over heels in love and can't wait to be husband and wife. Janis is a beautiful person, inside and out,” Lodge, 63, exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, January 3. “We have incredible chemistry, we're very compatible, emotionally connected and have mutual respect for each other. We are equally yoked and look forward to happiness.”

The businessman, who proposed to Carlson, 37, one month prior on December 20, noted that the couple are excited for a wedding ceremony in April. The news comes after Us broke the news in September 2021 that Lodge and Gunvalson, 59, had called off their engagement. The exes started dating in 2016 before getting engaged three years later.

A source told Us at the time that Lodge ended the relationship while Gunvalson was filming the Real Housewives spinoff show at Dorinda Medley's Berkshires home, adding, "After he told her this, she was traumatized. It ruined her. She didn’t want to be at the house anymore.”

The insider also revealed that the estranged exes “had not been getting along for a long time.”

Shortly after, the Real Housewives of Orange County alum confirmed that she and Lodge decided to go their separate ways.

“Yes, the rumors are true. The time has come for Steve and I to move forward or move on and we are … moving on,” the reality star wrote via Instagram that same month, sharing that nobody was at “fault” for the breakup. “We are just going in different directions. I wish him the best life has to offer and to be happy, and he has wished the same for me.”

One month later, the Bravolebrity accused her ex-fiancé of having an affair, writing via Instagram, “He's been flaunting around my town in OC making out in public places. It's disgusting."

Lodge, for his part, denied the claims and claimed that he had actually parted ways with Gunvalson months prior.

"I did this in person verbally and explained it to her in writing. We had not been in an intimate relationship since September of 2020. I have been living in Puerto Vallarta in my own condo, not hers since the beginning of 2021," he said in a statement to Us in October 2021. “I wanted to move on with my life and I could not do that with Vicki.”

How Kim Cattrall Feels About ‘And Just Like That’ Absence Amid Chris Scandal

Happy where she is! Kim Cattrall doesn't regret walking away from the Sex and the City family as the revival series, And Just Like That, and Chris Noth's alleged sexual assault scandal makes headlines.

All the Times 'And Just Like That' Has Mentioned Samantha Jones So Far

“Kim isn’t going to speak out about the Chris Noth allegations," a source exclusively tells Us Weekly after Noth, 67, was recently accused of sexually assaulting multiple women in the past, which he repeatedly denied.

Cattrall, 65, played Samantha Jones on Sex and the City from 1998 to 2004, but opted not to sign on for the new HBO Max series, which premiered earlier this month.

"She isn’t even going to talk about not being part of And Just Like That," the insider says, claiming the Emmy nominee "is happier where she is in life now," despite the fact that she "turned down" a major payday.

The Ice Princess actress' life is now "drama-free," the source tells Us, adding that Cattrall "doesn’t regret not being part of the revival."

The England-born star has been vocal over the years about her issues with former costar Sarah Jessica Parker, which may have been part of the reason she didn't return for a third SATC movie or And Just Like That. "To her, that ship has sailed years ago," the insider adds.

Since the original series came to an end, Parker, 56, has maintained that she never had an issue with Cattrall, explaining during a 2018 episode of the "Origins" podcast that she was "not in a catfight with anyone." At the time, the How I Met Your Father star raised eyebrows when she called Parker "cruel" following the death of her brother.

"I've never publicly — ever — said anything unfriendly, unappreciative about Kim because that's not how I feel about her," the SJP designer said on the podcast.

Cattrall, for her part, has not commented publicly about why she didn't return for the SATC revival, but showrunner Michael Patrick King hinted that her dynamic with the other three leads — Parker (Carrie Bradshaw), Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbs) — played a part in Samantha not being included in the new series.

Everything the 'SATC' Cast Has Said About Kim Cattrall's Absence in Revival

"Kristin, Cynthia and Sarah Jessica became one group, and Kim never joined mentally. Kim fought and said, 'I'm everyone's favorite,’" King told The Hollywood Reporter in December. "[Parker's] name was contractually, legally, righteously, the only name on the poster due to the fact that she was a movie star in 1998 when the series started and she did a leap to do a show about sex on [HBO], the channel that did the fights, and it doesn't matter how popular you are. I guess for Kim it didn't matter how much the raise became if there was never parity, but there was never going to be parity."

Earlier this month, Noth, who played Mr. Big on both SATC and And Just Like That, weighed in on Cattrall's reported feud with Parker. He was quick to defend the Hocus Pocus actress, who played his love interest on the series.

"I have to tell you, I have absolutely no idea what her thinking is, or her emotions," the Law & Order alum told The Guardian of the Filthy Rich actress on December 5. "I do know that I'm very close with SJ and [Cattrall's] descriptions of her don't even come close."

Noth noted that he is "very protective" of Parker and therefore was "not happy" that Cattrall was speaking negatively about her. "I just wish that whole thing had never happened because it was sad and uncomfortable," he concluded.

Days later, however, the New York native found himself at the center of a different scandal when The Hollywood Reporter published two women's accounts of alleged sexual assaults committed by Noth years earlier.

The Equalizer alum, who has since been fired from the CBS show, denied the claims, telling Us in a statement, "The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false. These stories could've been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross."

Despite insisting that the "encounters were consensual" and claiming that he "did not assault these women," Noth continued to make headlines in December when several more women came forward with allegations of abuse.

While Cattrall might be staying out of the controversy, Parker, Nixon, 55, and Davis, 56, released a joint statement on December 20 amid the fallout of Noth's alleged actions.

"We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth," the three actresses wrote via their Instagram Stories. "We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it."

Kris and Caitlyn Jenner's Ups and Downs Through the Years

Posted: 03 Jan 2022 06:00 AM PST

The way it was. After 22 years of marriage and raising a blended family together, Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner announced their separation two years before the former Olympian publicly came out as transgender.

"We are living apart,” the Safely founder previously revealed to Us Weekly in October 2013. “But there is no animosity. We are united and committed to our family. We ended a marriage, but that’s not the end of our friendship. I will always love him, but we are no longer a couple in that way. We are happier this way."

Following their December 2014 divorce, the I Am Cait star publicly announced her transition in 2015 as her relationship with the Jenner Communications founder and their youngest daughters (Kendall and Kylie Jenner) hit a snag. During a February 2016 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, things got heated after the supermodel disinvited the former track star to her debut Victoria's Secret fashion show.

“Hi dad,” the 818 Tequila founder said during a phone conversation during the episode. “I’m very mad at you about something, so … did you publicly, like, did you have your publicist announce that you were going? Because I don’t know how everyone knows and now it’s a huge story and I’m actually pissed at you."

She added at the time, "OK, well I don’t want you to go. … You're gonna take the biggest night of my life and take it away from me? Thank you. No! You can’t! You can come to the f–king after-party, you can’t come!"

Following the father-daughter pair's disagreement, Kendall revealed during a confessional that she didn't want her family's presence to take away her excitement over this career milestone though Kris was already set to attend the runway show.

Over the years, the former couple's relationship has gone through public highs and lows as they've navigated their post-split new normal.

"From my standpoint, our relationship is not as good as it should be," Caitlyn said during a November 2021 episode of Australia's Big Brother VIP. "I don't have any hard feelings towards her. We did a great job and this and that. Yeah, I wish it was closer, but it's not."

While the Olympic medalist admitted that their distance might be due to "misgivings" on Kris' part, Caitlyn speculated, "I think that's an understatement."

However, things seemed to turn a corner during Christmas of that year after the New York native publicly thanked her ex-wife — who's been dating boyfriend Corey Gamble since 2015 — for a set of wine glasses.

"Wow! Thanks @krisjennner and @coreygamble Merry Christmas," Caitlyn captioned an Instagram Story snap in December 2021, while lounging in pink pajamas next to her present.

After their breakup, the Secrets of My Life author gushed about Kris, who furnished her new Malibu residence.  “The day we took it, on June 1 at 8 a.m., she said I could not come over until that night. I came over and the completely empty house was fully furnished, every TV was working,” Caitlyn revealed during an April 2017 conversation at NYC’s 92nd Street Y. “She’s so well organized. I give her a lot of credit. The dryer even worked. She bought all new stuff. She has very good taste. She worked a deal with Restoration Hardware. It was a very nice thought of hers. I appreciate that.” Shutterstock (2)

While Caitlyn’s mom, Esther Jenner, made headlines after dissing the Kardashians’ reality TV show, a rep for the athlete previously revealed that Caitlyn didn’t feel the same way. “Caitlyn’s team adamantly denies her mother’s statements as they do not represent Caitlyn’s sentiments or feelings towards the show or Kris Jenner,” a statement read at the time. “Caitlyn has time and time again said that the show is the best thing that has happened to their family, and is on great terms with Kris. Her team was shocked — and never consulted — to hear of Esther speaking to press.” John Salangsang/Shutterstock; Vianney Le Caer/Invision/AP/Shutterstock
December 2019
“When Kris and I separated, it wasn’t because of trans issues. It was for a million other reasons,” Caitlyn told the Daily Mail about the dissolution of their marriage. “Kris and I had a great relationship for a long time. We built an amazing family, but circumstances and people change. And I think the hardest thing is to be able to make those changes together and still be as strong. Our relationship didn’t work anymore and we mutually decided that it was time to split up. There was no animosity.” Michael Buckner/Variety/Shutterstock; Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock
September 2020
The Life of Kylie alum later revealed that her transition wasn’t “a big part” of her split from the momager during an appearance on Rob Lowe’s “Literally” podcast, recalling, “There was so many other bigger issues out there. … Then all of a sudden, we didn’t have any issues. You know, we just, you know, it was calm.” MediaPunch/Shutterstock; Gregory Pace/Shutterstock

During the final season of KUWTK, Kris helped her ex with career advice amid the coronavirus pandemic after expressing concern about staying in touch with Caitlyn considering their troubled relationship. “I think my mom is just super traumatized [inside] and that’s OK,” Kim explained during a confessional during the episode. “Her experience is her experience and we all have to be there for her and there’s no time limit that can be put on her for her to feel completely comfortable again.” Shutterstock (2)

Broadway Romance! Ben Platt and Noah Galvin’s Relationship Timeline

Posted: 03 Jan 2022 05:52 AM PST

It's only them! After years of friendship, Ben Platt and Noah Galvin's relationship turned romantic as they spent time together in lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"Ben and I are dating," the Good Doctor actor first revealed during a May 2020 appearance on Ilana Levine's "Little Known Things" podcast. “I asked him this morning. I was like, ‘Are we allowed to talk about this?’ And he's like, 'Don't go into our nitty-gritty, but yeah, people can know.' It's still relatively new."

The duo — who have both portrayed the titular character in Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen — kept their romance relative private after confirming the news. However, they often can't resist gushing about one another.

"Long story short, Ben made me a birthday video. Ben very sweetly for the past, like, probably three months, has been putting together this video for me," the Real O'Neals alum said during the podcast interview. "It's all my favorite drag queens from RuPaul's Drag Race and beyond and all of my friends in drag, wishing me a happy birthday."

Shortly after the musical theatre stars quarantined together — and costarred in a series of "QuaranTunes Dance Parties" on Instagram — the pair grew even closer while staying at Platt's childhood home, eventually getting a labradoodle named George together. The budding romance has provided major creative inspiration for both of the actors.

"The song ['Imagine'] came to me from Michael Pollack, who's a really brilliant songwriter [and is] my EP on my whole second album … It spoke to me immediately because I recently entered into a relationship this year with my boyfriend, Noah Galvin," the Politician star explained during a June 2021 interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show. "We've been together for about a year and a half now. It was really crazy, we've been friends for, like, five years and right before the pandemic, we finally decided to, like, really give it a shot."

He told host Kelly Clarkson, "We've kind of skated around it for a long time and then it was, like, zero to 60, like we're living together with my parents in [my] childhood home and seeing each other all the time. But it ended up being a beautiful time."

Since then, their relationship has continued to flourish as they've each shared sweet tributes via social media.

"2021 often deeply sucked and yet he somehow made it mostly wonderful," the California native wrote via Instagram in December 2021 alongside a cozy selfie of the pair.
