NBA Rumors: LeBron James, Anthony Davis 'Encouraged' LA Lakers To Trade For Russell Westbrook Instead Of Buddy Hield

After suffering a first-round playoff exit last year, the Los Angeles Lakers became more aggressive in improving their roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the 2021 NBA offseason. The Lakers successfully found a third star a week before the 2021 NBA Draft when they acquired Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards. After forming their own "Big Three" of Westbrook, James, and Davis, the Lakers immediately became one of the heavy favorites to fully dominate the Western Conference and capture the Larry O'Brien Trophy in the 2021-22 NBA season.

Russell Westbrook Experiment A Massive Failure

Unfortunately, things didn't go as the Lakers expected this season. As of now, their newest addition, Westbrook, is yet to live up to expectations from the Lakers' third star. Aside from his inconsistent performance on both ends of the floor, he's noticeably struggling to make himself fit alongside James and Davis in Los Angeles.

With their chemistry issues and inability to remain healthy, it's hardly surprising that the Lakers are currently out of the playoff race. Despite having the "Big 3" of Westbrook, James, and Davis, the Lakers are only sitting in the No. 9 spot in the Western Conference with a 24-24 record.

Lakers Chose Russell Westbrook Over Buddy Hield

Before they engaged in a blockbuster deal with the Wizards, the Lakers were also aggressively pursuing other players on the trade market, including veteran shooting guard Buddy Hield of the Sacramento Kings. Earlier in the 2021 NBA offseason, there were speculations that the Lakers and the Kings were in a serious negotiation involving Hield. However, when the Wizards started listening to offers for Westbrook, NBA insider Marc Stein revealed in his substack newsletter that James and Davis "encouraged" the Lakers' front office to trade for "The Brodie" instead of Hield.

It's hard to blame James and Davis for urging the Lakers to choose Westbrook over Hield. Aside from having more NBA experience than Hield, Westbrook is also a former MVP, a nine-time NBA All-Star, and a two-time All-NBA First Team. However, as of now, the Lakers must already be starting to regret their decision to trade for Westbrook instead of Hield.

Hield would in no doubt be a much better on-court fit with James and Davis than Westbrook. Hield isn't only an elite three-point shooter, but he could also excel on the court in an off-ball capacity. This season, the 29-year-old shooting guard is averaging 15.1 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 38.9 percent from the field and 38.0 percent from beyond the arc, per ESPN.

Lakers Trying To Get Rid Of Russell Westbrook

With his underwhelming performance this season, rumors have started to circulate that the Lakers would try to get rid of Westbrook before the 2022 NBA trade deadline. Recently, there were growing speculations that the Houston Rockets were willing to swap John Wall for Westbrook. However, Stein said that the Westbrook-for-Wall swap is unlikely to happen as the Lakers refuse to give up a future first-round pick to the Rockets.

"League sources say that the Lakers, presented with an unexpected pathway to abort their Westbrook experiment by trading the NBA’s 2017 Most Valuable Player back to the Rockets in exchange for former All-Star John Wall, are unwilling to attach the 2027 first-rounder to make the deal happen," Stein wrote, as quoted by SB Nation's Silver Screen and Roll.

NBA Rumors: Knicks Could Trade Julius Randle & Evan Fournier For CJ McCollum

Julius Randle and the New York Knicks entered the 2021-22 NBA season with the goal of fully dominating the Eastern Conference and winning the NBA championship title. Unfortunately, as of now, the Knicks aren't playing like a team that is ready to dethrone the reigning NBA champions, Milwaukee Bucks. So far, they are out of the playoff race, sitting in the No. 11 spot in the Eastern Conference with a 23-25 record.

In line with their ongoing struggle, Randle's relationship with their fans started to turn sour, creating speculations that the Knicks could explore moving him before the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

Proposed Knicks-Blazers Trade Featuring Julius Randle

Once the Knicks make Randle available on the trading block, several teams are expected to express a strong interest in adding him to their roster. One of the potential trade partners for the Knicks in the deal involving Randle is the Portland Trail Blazers. In a recent article, Jack Simone of Fanisded's Hoops Habit came up with a hypothetical blockbuster trade that would enable the Trail Blazers to acquire Randle before the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

In the proposed trade scenario, the Trail Blazers would be sending a package that includes CJ McCollum, Robert Covington, and a 2023 first-round pick to the Knicks in exchange for Randle and Evan Fournier. If the trade becomes a reality, Simone believes it would help both teams in filling up the needs to improve on their roster.

Overhauling Roster Around Damian Lillard

Trading McCollum would be tough for the Trail Blazers, but it would be worth exploring, especially knowing that they are stuck in mediocrity for years. By sending McCollum to New York, the Trail Blazers would have the opportunity to overhaul their roster around the face of the franchise, Damian Lillard, while remaining competitive in the Western Conference. The proposed blockbuster deal with the Knicks would allow the Trail Blazers to pair Lillard with an All-Star caliber big man in Randle while acquiring a veteran replacement for McCollum in Fournier.

Randle may have shown a decline with his numbers this season, but he remains a very reliable contributor on both ends of the floor. In 46 games, he's averaging 18.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 31.1 percent from beyond the arc, per ESPN.

Proposed Trade A No-Brainer For Knicks

Meanwhile, the proposed blockbuster trade with the Trail Blazers should be a no-brainer for the Knicks as it would enable them to hit two birds with one stone. Aside from ending the drama surrounding Randle, the suggested deal would allow them to add an All-Star caliber shooting guard in McCollum. McCollum would provide the Knicks the much-needed boost on the offensive end of the floor, giving them a very reliable scorer, a decent playmaker, and an elite three-point shooter.

This season, McCollum is 20.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting 43.0 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from beyond the arc, per ESPN. In addition to the McCollum, the Knicks would also get a veteran three-and-D wingman in Covington and a future first-round pick that they could use another young and promising talent to their roster.

CJ McCollum Starts New Journey With Knicks

McCollum may not have shown a strong indication that he's no longer happy with the Trail Blazers, but he might be intrigued by the idea of playing in Big Apple. Being traded to the Knicks would give McCollum the opportunity to move out of the shadow of Lillard while playing for one of the most storied franchises in the NBA. Though joining the Knicks won't put him closer to winning his first NBA championship title, they could provide him with a much bigger role on the offensive end of the floor.

If the Knicks make McCollum their No. 1 scoring option, it would help him unleash his full potential and speed up his development into a legitimate superstar in the league.

No matter how long celebrities hibernate, Paris Fashion Week is sure to bring them out of hiding, and this year isn't any different. While we've enjoyed watching Naomi Campbell strut across the runway and Tyler the Creator ride his bike in the middle of the Louis Vuitton show, one couple has us on the edge of our seats.

Kanye West and his new flame Julia Fox stepped out for Paris Fashion Week in their first official debut as a couple. The Yeezus rapper isn't letting his split from estranged wife Kim Kardashian stop his love for coordinated outfits as he's replaced Kim with the new mom. What started as a rumor is slowly becoming a reality as the pair made not one but four appearances in matching fits.

'Juliye', New Power Couple?

Fashion is all about self-expression, and if there's anybody that understands that best, it's Ye. The Grammy-award-winning artist takes no prisoners when it comes to eccentric fashion, and he's inducting his new lover into his style. For their first outing on the red carpet, Juliye wore a custom denim Schiaparelli SS22 outfit.

The couple wore matching black gloves, and Ye opted for black Red Wing boots instead of denim. Julia's all denim look included a cropped jacket with rocket bra cups and low-waist pants tucked in a knee-high boot. One would think the oversized gold earrings were enough as the color pop Fox needed, but she allowed Kanye to test his makeup skills on her face. Needless to say, that was an interesting makeup (if she loves it, we like it), but we'd rather not have that look. Julia doesn't share the consensus, though, because she spotted the same eye makeup on the couple's second outing.

This time, Juliye stepped out in leather outfits. While Julia wore a figure-hugging red leather maxi dress with a black coat and thigh-high silver boots, Kanye coordinated in a black biker jacket, leather pants, boots, and grey ski mask. Their theme for Paris Fashion Week is clearly "Shock Value" because that's the only explanation for Kanye West's white contacts and Julia's disturbing eyeshadow.

No Face, No Case

Once more, the Juliye stepped out for Schiaparelli, and if you hoped Julia tossed the oversized gold earrings, sorry to disappoint you, they're back. She wore a mini zip-up black leather dress with matching tight-high boots but complimented her jewelry with a gold padlock-shaped tote.

Kanye, Kanye, Kanye. The father of four decided to serve "No Face, No Case" as he donned a full-face black ski mask with his matching black leather outfit.

Relationship Update

Many Kimye fans aren't quite ready to accept the new situation, so they're insinuating Julia's in the relationship for fame and clout. She, however, cleared the air on her podcast, letting everyone know she doesn't care. In her words, "It's funny cause I'm getting all of this attention, but I really couldn't care. Lady Gaga visited Jimmy Kimmel on the set of his long-running late-night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, on Tuesday to discuss her latest film, House of Gucci. And, in addition to discussing her thoughts on the film, she looked back on the months she spent in production -- starting with her on-set food memories.

"I ate the entire time... There was so much. The pizza was so good. The pasta was so good, and the sandwiches," Gaga, who acted as Patrizia Reggiani, recalled. "I had so much coffee, though. I had [doubles] all day, every hour."

Lady Gaga Mastered Her Accent Over Time

Gaga didn't just use her accent on set. Instead, she used it for the entire time she was in production on House of Gucci.

"I spoke in my accent all the time so that I could get really used to talking to somebody with my accent and have a really normal conversation so that I could just be in my body and talk and it was really great for me on set but with my friends and family, I think they had to get used to it," Gaga explained, while speaking in an Italian accent like her character.

Lady Gaga Gushed Over Jared Leto

According to Gaga, she was taken aback by Leto's acting.

"Jared Leto is amazing. It's so great doing scenes with Jared because we're both maniacs to a certain extent. And I think in some sort of way I think unless you're really in tune with yourself as an artist and respect the person you're working with, all that hair and makeup we were both in might make it hard to connect on a real and human level," she explained. CrossFit Athlete Brooke Wells Flaunts Insane Abs With Scar Update

CrossFit athlete Brooke Wells had an elbow surgery update for her Instagram fans earlier this month, proudly displaying her scar along with her sculpted abs in a post that clocked in over 70,600 likes. Shared in the "New Year, new me" spirit, the photo uploaded on January 6 proved that, despite the unexpected developments at the 2021 CrossFit Games, some things will never change for the 26-year-old powerhouse. It also presented her 1.6 million followers with a great chance to peek at her shredded tummy, although the majority of comments were to show support rather than compliment her toned physique.

Rock-Hard Abs On Show

Wells' insane abs were on show in the photo geotagged at the CrossFit Trivium gym in Brentwood, Tennessee, in which the professional athlete showcased her "new scar" while assuring fans she still had "the same goal" in spite of her recent surgery. Flexing her biceps with her arm lifted over her head, the Missouri native proved "nothing can stop me," all the while flaunting her muscular figure in a strappy black gym top and matching bottoms.

The athlete severely injured her elbow during Event 12 at the 2021 CrossFit Games in early August and had to withdraw from the competition, later confirming she would need reconstructive surgery for the dislocation.

Wells further demonstrated her relentlessness in the caption, which included hashtags such as "CrossFitGames," "2022," and "ElbowSurgery," with many of her followers reaching out in the comments section to reassure her that "scars are way cooler than tattoos" and she should wear her "battle scar" proudly.

Elbow Updates

Wells has been candid about her post-surgery recovery, posting frequent updates over the past months. The seven-time CrossFit Games athlete shared details of her injury two weeks after it happened, explaining: "There is a complete tear of the muscle and ligaments on the inner side of the elbow (UCL), which caused the dislocation."

Taking to Instagram as she awaited surgery, the 26-year-old continued: "A high-grade tear of the lateral collateral, and the flexer [sic] tendon was pulled of [sic] the bone. There was no fracture, or no surface damage to the joint."

Keeping Fit

Wells hasn't let her elbow injury slow her down. If anything, she has ramped up the physical training, telling fans in November: "After the first month of rehab in Los Angeles, I've been primarily back in Nashville doing PT 3-5 days per week."

That same month, she shared a collection of workout videos featuring a close-up view of her scar, which she dubbed "the new addition to my arm," along with a detailed gym session tailored for shoulders and elbows.

"this PT is great for shoulders & elbows. if you’re having elbow or shoulder pain (or even if you aren’t!!), use these exercises to strengthen that area UP," she wrote in the caption.

Getting A Good Sweat In

While she may have been training her arms more extensively as of late, it's no question that Wells is fit from head to toe. According to Muscle & Fitness, her favorite muscles to work on are her quads and hamstrings.

The CrossFit Athlete, who ranked 9th worldwide in last year's Open, regularly shares her workouts on Instagram, usually with ample descriptions of her routines in the caption. Just last week, she posted a video of her EMOM (Every Minute on the Minute) workout, detailing a 10-minute session of "2 reps of 1 & 1/4th Front Squat" and a 30-minute one comprised of "15 Wallballs, 12 Cal Ski, 9 Hang Power Clean" with three bonus sets of 10 dumbbell bench presses each.

Secret Behind Her Steel Abs

Browsing her Instagram page, it's clear that Wells owes her steel abs to EMOM, with the athlete typically picking workouts that strengthen her core.

"When I’m in a funk & don’t know where to begin in the gym, I do an EMOM," she confessed back in December, sharing a six-part slideshow to illustrate the various exercises she does.

"Pick a few movements you would like to do & a rep number that will take 30-45 seconds. You get a good effective workout with built in [sic] rest 🙏🏼," Wells recommended, before getting into details about her 28-minute EMOM that included "10 Box Step Overs; 10 Calorie Standing Bike; 100’ Sled Push; 12 Calorie Row."

RHOSLC: Jennie Nguyen Vows to 'Speak [Her] Truth' After Being Fired

Jennie Nguyen was fired by Bravo earlier this week for sharing a series of offensive and seemingly anti-Black posts on Facebook just under two years ago, prior to the day she was cast on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

Although Nguyen immediately offered an apology to her fans and followers on social media after her 2020 posts re-surfaced, she's not done talking about them. And, in a post shared on Twitter and Instagram on Tuesday, she vowed to "speak [her] truth."

Jennie Nguyen is Ready to Speak Publicly

In her January 25 message to her fans and followers on both her Twitter page and her Instagram Story, Nguyen said that at some point in the day on Wednesday, she would be breaking her silence (aside from her initial apology) and sharing more details in regard to her past posts and likely, how she feels about them today.

"I will be finally speaking my truth tomorrow now that I am allowed to. I will be taking questions after! Thank you to who all supports me!" she wrote to her online audience.

Jennie Nguyen Apologized After the Scandal Broke

On January 19, Nguyen took to her Instagram page, where she offered an apology.

“I want to acknowledge and apologize for my deleted Facebook posts from 2020 that resurfaced today. At the time, I thought I was speaking out against violence, but I have since learned how offensive and hurtful my words were. It’s why I deactivated that account more than a year ago and why I continue to try to learn about perspectives different from my own. I regret those posts and am sincerely sorry for the pain they have caused,” Nguyen wrote at the time.

Not Everyone is Interested in What Jennie Nguyen Has to Say

After Nguyen posted her message about speaking her truth on Twitter, she was bombarded by fans, many of whom said she couldn't possibly dig herself out of the whole where's found herself following her racism scandal on Facebook.

"No one and I mean no one wants to hear your 'truth,'" one person noted. "We already know how you act in the public eye vs behind closed doors."

Nguyen and her cast mates are currently featured on the season season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, which airs on Sunday nights at 9/8c on Bravo.

Young Black Man Mistaken For Older White Suspect

A young Black man is suing the police departments in Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada after they jailed him for six days, instead of jailing an older white man with a similar name.

Twenty-five-year-old Shane Lee Brown was apparently mistaken for Shane Neal Brown, a 49-year-old white man who was sought on an arrest warrant for a charge of ownership or possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Lawsuit

According to the lawsuit, Henderson police pulled over Shane Lee Brown on January 8, 2020.

The young man did not have identification on him, but provided police his name, Social Security number and Social Security card, as reported by 8 News Now.

When the officers performed a records check for the name Shane Brown, a felony warrant for the 49-year-old white man appeared -- and the 29-year-old was arrested.

He was first detained in the Henderson jail for two days and then taken to the Clark County Detention Center, per the news site.

The lawsuit says that "during his unlawful detention, Shane Lee Brown repeatedly explained to numerous unknown Henderson police officers and supervisors that he was not the 49-year-old white ‘Shane Brown’ who was the subject of the felony warrant."

For the time being, it remains unclear how Henderson police informed the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) that a person named Shane Brown was in its custody.

In any case, while being booked into the Clark County Detention Center -- which is run by the LVMPD -- Shane Lee Brown was given a standard custody record identification number, which noted his race and age.

Shane Lee Brown Release

According to NPR, Shane Lee Brown was released on January 14, after a public defender told Judge Joe Hardy the wrong person was in custody.

"Your honor, we have a major issue in this case. The Shane Brown who is the defendant in our case has a separate ID number and he is a 49-year-old white male," the lawyer said.

Judge hardy immediately ordered the release.

'Correctly Arrested'

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the city of Henderson Kathleen Richards said the young man was "correctly arrested."

“During a routine traffic stop for driving an unregistered vehicle, Shane Brown was correctly arrested by Henderson police for driving with a suspended license and for a contempt of court, failure to pay warrant issued by Henderson Municipal Court," Richards claimed.

"Mr. Brown admitted to the arresting officers that he knew his driver’s license was suspended and that he had traffic warrants in Henderson. The plaintiff in this lawsuit has not presented all the facts and circumstances behind his lawful and proper arrest by Henderson police," she added.

Unvaccinated Boston Patient Is Denied A Heart Transplant

Thirty-one-year-old DJ Ferguson has been removed from the heart transplant list at a Boston, Massachusetts hospital because he is refusing to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.

Ferugson, who has two children and is expecting a third, was on the list to receive a heart transplant at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, but is no longer eligible for the procedure due to his vaccination status.

High Risk Patient

Brigham and Women’s Hospital says patients who receive transplants are at much higher risk to die of COVID-19.

"We do everything we can to ensure that a patient who receives a transplanted organ has the greatest chance of survival," a spokesperson for the hospital explained in a statement supplied to The New York Post.

"Our Mass General Brigham healthcare system requires several CDC-recommended vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine, and lifestyle behaviors for transplant candidates to create both the best chance for a successful operation and to optimize the patient’s survival after transplantation, given that their immune system is drastically suppressed."Experts Back Policy

Brigham and Women’s Hospital's decision to take Ferguson off the transplant list is hardly a surprise, according to experts.

Dr. Arthur Caplan, Head of Medical Ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, explained to CBS Boston that transplant patients are extremely vulnerable to viruses.

"Post any transplant, kidney, heart whatever, your immune system is shut off. The flu could kill you, a cold could kill you, COVID could kill you," Caplan said.

"The organs are scarce, we are not going to distribute them to someone who has a poor chance of living when others who are vaccinated have a better chance post-surgery of surviving," he added.

Father Still Proud

Ferguson's father David is still proud of his son, and says getting vaccinated is "against his basic principles."

"My son has gone to the edge of death to stick to his guns and he’s been pushed to the limit. It’s kind of against his basic principles; he doesn’t believe in it. It’s a policy they are enforcing and so because he won’t get the shot, they took him off the list of a heart transplant," David said.

'His Body, His Choice'

David said that the family is "aggressively pursuing all options, but we are running out of time."

"I think my boy is fighting pretty damn courageously and he has integrity and principles he really believes in and that makes me respect him all the more," he said.

The father noted that DJ has received excellent care from the doctors, but simply does not want to get vaccinated.

"It’s his body. It’s his choice," he said.
