Selena Gomez Advocates For 'Mental Fitness'

Selena Gomez believes that opening up about her own experiences helps create mental health awareness, but she’s doing much more than just talking. She has also created an online platform called Wondermind to provide educational resources and dispel mental illness stigma.

The 29-year-old singer, actress, and producer co-founded the platform with her mother, Mandy Teefey, and Daniella Pierson, the CEO of media company The Newsette, intending to give “you easy, doable ways to put your mental fitness first every single day.”

Mental Fitness

Wondermind hopes to achieve this objective via three methods. First, it encourages you to work towards mental fitness by following a daily routine – just as you would exercise every day for physical fitness.

Second, it plans to provide tools, “from creative daily journal exercises to an hourglass to support focus,” according to the website to achieve your mental health goals more easily.

Finally, it hopes to open up conversations about mental illness through podcasts and other content because sharing your experiences is the first step towards healing.

Feeling 'Less Than'

Gomez herself has always been transparent about her mental health journey. In October 2020, she wrote a piece for CNN detailing her challenges. “I have been open about my own personal mental health struggles and how I have felt ‘less than,’” she said.

She wrote about the difficulties of being a public figure who was constantly being judged. But despite that, she said she still felt fortunate to be in a position to help others by sharing her experiences.

She Recommends Therapy

The Disney alum continued, “I try to use my voice to help reduce the stigma associated with talking about mental health and to encourage people to celebrate their uniqueness.” She also dispensed some words of encouragement for others who might be struggling, saying, “I want to tell you that you are not alone.”

Aside from launching Wondermind, Gomez also recommended therapy and admitted that she had sought treatment herself in her article. She said she found it hard to open up at first, but when she did, “it was such a relief.”

Rare Beauty

The pop star also owns a makeup line called Rare Beauty, and she’s using it to encourage others to “challenge the beauty ‘norm,’” as ironic as that may sound.

She explained in her piece, “Since the start of Rare Beauty, my team and I have been building a community to have positive conversations around self-acceptance and mental health.” Through these convos, she hopes to inspire others to defy unrealistic standards and instead “celebrate their individual beauty.”

He offered more details two years later in an interview with GQ, saying, “If both people are working, it's a problem. In the case of Salma and I, she was in South Africa doing a movie, and I was in Australia making Stealth, and with the time that we spent apart, invariably we broke up.”

How NXIVM Founder Keith Raniere Built His Dark Empire

We all want to feel a sense of belonging at some point. Whether it's tethered to fitting in at school or having confidants at work, having people who share your beliefs and viewpoints can be a bonding experience in many settings.

This concept is something that NXIVM founder Keith Raniere knew and tapped into as he designed his now-infamous cult and recruited unsuspecting women to venture into the darkness with him.

Origin Of Trickery

The 1990s was a simpler time. Without the ever-present pinging of your phone in your pocket or being able to connect with people around the globe in an instant on Twitter, finding your so-called tribe was a blend of both luck and happenstance.

During these years of electronic disconnect, Raniere started formulating his specific idea of what constituted togetherness. Eventually, the lines would blur and cross over into unexpected territory as the image of NXIVM sharpened in Raniere's mind.

Raniere's Early Life

In 1990, before NXIVM was founded, Raniere started a business called Consumers' Buyline. This multilevel marketing program centered around the idea that recruiting new members would result in lucrative commissions. He reportedly ended 1993 with over $1 billion in goods and services and had a quarter-million believers.

Despite his apparent success, Consumers' Buyline faced a civil suit from the New York attorney general that claimed the company was a pyramid scheme. Ultimately, Raniere settled for $40,000 without admitting wrongdoing.

After another failed attempt at a multilevel company, National Health Network, Raniere ultimately met his future business partner and began designing what would become his darkest and most successful effort.

Designing The NXIVM World

Many of the classes offered by Raniere and company seemed to be centered around the idea of humanitarian principles that empowered people. Still, once students entered the murky waters, they discovered that it was not quite what it initially seemed.

On top of not providing the education that attendees had anticipated, the classes were also quite expensive and could be as much as $7,500. Raniere also required students' signatures on NDAs at times, even though the courses were supposedly rooted in the world of self-help and executive coaching.

Building Raniere's Personal Narrative

While many members only took a few classes, others began devoting themselves to Raniere. According to The New York Times, some even began "calling him 'Vanguard' and regarding him as the most ethical man in the world."

This helped him create a stronger position within NXIVM and appear to be an influential figure to his most loyal followers. Various members would even see him as "an elusive, god-like savant within the company" despite the complicated structure of the organization.

Rainere Tightens Control

Once inside, the indoctrination began to take place. While some ritualistic practices were centered around low-level requirements, such as removing your shoes and wearing colored sashes to signify your ranking, others were more concerning.

Some participants stated that they had to kiss Raniere on the mouth when he entered the room and were cut off from the outside world. It has also been said that those around the founder had to recite a "12-point mission statement " once a day that Raniere himself wrote.

Some women additionally stated that they were branded with Raniere's initials and that there were inner circles where a "master" would control sex slaves.

Picking Up Steam

Over 15,000 people moved through the revolving door and enrolled in NXIVM courses throughout its existence. As Raniere's power within the organization grew, so too did his ability to draw in high-profile figures, such as "Smallville" actress Allison Mack.

However, leaving NXIVM wasn't so easy, according to some ex-members. A 2012 article in The Times Union, a local paper in upstate New York, stated that those who tried to leave Raniere's control were subjected to "relentless intimidation" if they "tried to break away or question the practices of NXIVM."

If they could successfully leave during NXIVM's existence, some one-time members said they had felt fear surrounding Raniere's power and resources.

The Crumbling Begins

By 2017, several former members had expressed their concerns about NXIVM. They asked New York State authorities to investigate Raniere and what had been quietly happening within the organization.

The complaints were centered around a group called The Vow or D.O.S., an acronym that loosely translates to “Lord/Master of the Obedient Female Companions" in Latin. In late 2017, after a criminal investigation was opened, Raniere moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Rainere's Fate Is Decided

However, the founder's time in Mexico was cut short. On March 26, 2018, after living in Mexico for only five months, he was arrested and charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor conspiracy.

Prosecutors alleged that he had also threatened his victims by saying that he was willing to release personal information and take their assets. On May 4, 2018, Rainere pleaded not guilty and said that all actions within NXIVM had been consensual.

After shuttering its operations in June 2018, Rainere was then charged with child pornography. Ultimately, in June 2019, Raniere was found guilty on all counts and was sentenced to 120 years in prison.

Look Inside Ashley Tisdale's Self-Designed Home

American actress Ashley Tisdale has carved out a successful career after starring in High School Musical and launching her solo music career in the early 2000s.

Recently, the actress welcomed Architectural Digest for a full house tour of her home. Ashley lives happily in the gorgeous Hollywood Hills home with her husband, Christopher French, 1-year-old daughter, Jupiter, and their dog.

Ashley Designed Her Home Herself

The 36-year-old admitted that she single-handedly decorated her home. However, while the space appeared flawless and shiny on the tour day, she realized that at least one area was not camera ready a few days before.

"These bookshelves, I have to be honest, actually did not have books in them a couple days ago. I had my husband go to the bookstore, and I was like, 'You need to get 400 books," she said, referring to the bookshelf in the main living room. 

The rest of the apartment, which the couple moved into while Ashley was seven months pregnant, was decorated with far more care, planning, and some Jupiter-inspired attention.

Ashley stated during the tour that she loves her home and is very proud of herself. 

"I fully love this house. I love every piece of everything I've done here, and I'm really proud of myself."

Instagram Played A Huge Part In The Home's Design

Due to the COVID pandemic and its related challenges, Ashley was forced to limit her search for refurbishment inspiration to the internet. 

"I pretty much designed this whole house through Instagram. We weren't really going to stores and stuff, and we weren't going out. I was pregnant, so I was being super safe," she said. 

Ashley revealed that while she was still designing, the realization that she would become a parent made her reconsider purchasing her standout angular stone coffee table from Apparatus.

"I was definitely hesitant because knowing I was having a baby. I was like, 'Okay, this is probably not the greatest coffee table for this because it has sharp edges.' But, I was like, 'You know what? This room is gonna kind of be the no baby zone," she shared before admitting, "[Jupiter] definitely comes in here, but we just really watch her."

The Living Room With Multiple Seating Areas

One of Tisdale's first pieces for the house was the Mario Bellini Camaleonda sofa in the living room. She completed the look with an Apparatus marble coffee table, two Sabin cowhide chairs, a Mehraban rug, a Pietro Franceschini gold arch console, a Caprani floor lamp, and Mark Ryden artwork.

There are other unique seating locations in the living room. A mustard-colored Adamastor lounge chair by Branca anchors this midcentury-inspired arrangement.

The Surprise Movie Room

Because Ashley and Christopher no longer wanted to go to the movies, a cinema room was a priority on their list of home features.

However, Ashley found a fantastic movie room with a built-in daybed on the property. She then re-upholstered a Sixpenny sofa in matching fabric and placed it in the foreground.

Pops Of Orange

A TV room is also featured on the property. The TV room is a fun place to hang out with friends. Hence, it was beautifully decorated with a Beni rug, a vintage Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset chair, and an Ethnicraft N701 Axelle Modular Sofa in cognac, featuring pops of orange. 

Knowing that Ashley designed her stunning home herself was pretty inspiring. She certainly does have good taste.

NBA Rumors: Proposed Sixers-Mavericks Trade Sends Tobias Harris To Dallas For Three Players

In the past months, rumors have been swirling around veteran power forward Tobias Harris and his future with the Philadelphia 76ers. Harris may be considered an essential member of the Sixers' rotation in the 2021-22 NBA season, but there were reports that they explored trading him before the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

Though he continues to post decent numbers, most people believe that the Sixers are overpaying him to serve as the No. 4 option.

When the season is over, the Sixers are expected to get rid of Harris and his two year - $77 million contract.

Tobias Harris To Dallas Mavericks

One of the teams that could express an interest in trading for Harris this summer is the Dallas Mavericks. In a recent article, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report created a list of realistic trades that could happen in the 2022 NBA offseason. These include a hypothetical deal that would enable the Sixers to dump Harris to the Mavericks.

In the proposed trade scenario, the Sixers would be sending Harris, Jaden Springer, and a 2023 second-round pick to the Mavericks in exchange for a trade package that includes Reggie Bullock, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Dwight Powell.

Sixers Swap Tobias Harris For Roster Depth

The proposed trade deal with the Mavericks would be worth exploring for the Sixers. Aside from dumping Harris and his massive salary, the Sixers would also be acquiring three solid veteran players who could help them boost their depth in the 2022-23 NBA season.

"Bullock would be a clean, effortless fit as a three-and-D wing," Buckley said. "Hardaway could either improve the starting five's spacing or lead the second unit as a quick-strike scorer. Powell would give Philadelphia a legitimate backup for MVP candidate Joel Embiid."

Mavericks Pair Luka Doncic With Tobias Harris

The proposed deal should be a no-brainer for the Mavericks. Harris may be considered the odd man out in Philadelphia, but he would be an excellent acquisition for the Mavericks. He would give them an All-Star caliber forward to ease the burden on Luka Doncic's shoulders on the offensive end of the floor next season.

In Harris, the Mavericks would get a reliable second-scoring option, rebounder, on-court facilitator, defender, and floor spacer. This season, he's averaging 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Tobias Harris Starts A New Journey In Dallas

Harris may not have shown any sign that he's no longer happy with the Sixers, but he would definitely be intrigued by the idea of being traded to the Mavericks. Unlike in Philadelphia, where he's only the No. 4 option, Harris has a strong chance of becoming the No. 2 guy in Dallas.

Playing for a team that could give him a more significant role on the offensive end of the floor could speed up his development into a legitimate superstar in the league.

With the excitement that Comerica Park had on Thursday due to Miguel Cabrera possibly getting his 3,000th hit, it was easy to tell why fans started booing New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone.

Even though Cabrera will get his 3,000th hit eventually because the season just started, fans wanted to see it happen at their home ballpark. With the Detroit Tigers now taking on the Colorado Rockies in Detroit, fans should be able to see the milestone happen still, just a few days later.

Even the Tigers Manager Agreed With The Move

With how big of a moment it was for Cabrera, it would have been easy for his manager AJ Hinch to get aggravated over the call. However, Hinch understood why the decision was made.

"[Boone's] obligation is to his own team and their chances of winning," he said. "He had the matchup behind Miggy that he wanted. So you could see it coming. I know our fans responded accordingly, but I totally get it."

When Hinch said fans responded accordingly, he is referencing the loud boos that were heard around Comerica Park. Boos filled the park along with some "Yankees suck" chants.

Aaron Boone Made The Right Decision

Making the type of decision that Aaron Bone made wouldn't have even been thought of if it wasn't for Cabrera nearing his 3,000th hit. With a lefty coming up and a lefty on the mound, walking the right-handed-hitting Cabrera made perfect sense, but Boone said it did hurt him this time.

"The left-on-left, I felt like the matchup -- I just liked it a little bit better in that situation and it came down to a baseball call for me there," Boone said. "Tough decision, and I thought Lucas executed a pitch and got the soft contact, but [Meadows] dumped it in there. So tough call, but one I had to make."

Cabrera Knows It's Part Of The Game

With his 3,000th hit on the line, it would make sense if Cabrera was angry, but he wasn't and understands it's just smart baseball from Boone.

"My on-base percentage went up!" Cabrera said with a laugh when asked about getting walked. "And we scored two runs. That's the beauty of baseball. ... I would rather go 0-for-3 and see my team win."

Cabrera will have a chance on Friday against the Colorado Rockies to complete the impressive milestone and become the 33rd player in MLB history to do so.

Tamra can't help but speak her truth when she feels like there's something she needs to say. Even though she and Shannon aren't on the best of terms, she came to her defense in an Instagram comment.

When asked whose side she was on at the reunion, Tamra said, "Shannon's!!!!! I hate to see a gang up."

This comes after Tamra said, "it is like mean girls, versus sad girls to me at this point,” in a recent edition of her "Two T's In A Pod" podcast with Teddie Mellencamp.

Shannon and Tamra haven't spoken since the latter was fired from "RHOC." Their friendship fell out for reasons neither of them is willing to own up to.

They were mostly friends during their time together on the show, but they had their moments. There were multiple instances of Tamra questioning Shannon's erratic behavior, which led Shannon to flip out even more.

They've gone back and forth in the press in the years since Tamra's exit from the show. However, despite all of that tension, Tamra mustered up the ability to come to Shannon's defense.

Tamra speaking out about Shannon isn't anything new from the ousted "RHOC" star. Tamra's always been known to give her opinion. Whether it's about the boyfriend of her costars, a fake cancer scam, or rumors of infidelity, Tamra's going to speak on it.

Former NFL punter turned talk show host Pat McAfee recently stated to be "up to something." The New York Post has learned that 'something' could be a new massive deal with Amazon Prime.

According to the report, the former Indianapolis Colts player could join Prime Video's Thursday Night Football broadcast starting next season.

Amazon Is Keeping Tabs On McAfee

The deal could also take his world-famous 'The Pat McAfee Show,' which includes weekly appearances by Aaron Rodgers and other renowned guests around the sports industry:

"The Post has learned that McAfee and Amazon have been in discussions about the former NFL punter contributing to their “Thursday Night Football” coverage, which begins this fall. There have also been conversations about potentially airing “The Pat McAfee Show” — his weekday talk show, sponsored by FanDuel, which airs on YouTube and SiriusXM — on Prime Video," wrote Ryan Glasspiegel of The Post.He Doesn't Want To Be A Traditional Color Commentator

Needless to say, McAfee would bring his entertaining style to the broadcast, as he's always stayed true to his fun persona since retiring from the NFL in 2017.

"Amazon has hired Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit to call their games this fall," the report added. "McAfee has mentioned on his show previously that he has spoken with Amazon executives.
