Oscars Producer: LAPD Was 'Prepared' to Arrest Will for Slapping Chris Rock Posted: 31 Mar 2022 05:09 PM PDT An unexpected bump. Will Packer, who produced the 2022 Oscars, is opening up about what went down behind the scenes after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. A clip from Packer’s Friday, April 1, Good Morning America interview aired as part of ABC World News Tonight on Thursday, March 31, during which he claimed that authorities were at the ready after Smith, 53, rushed the Dolby Theatre stage. “They were saying, ‘This is battery.’ That was the word they used in that moment,” Packer alleged. “They said, ‘We will go get him. We are prepared. We will go get him right now. You can press charges. We can arrest him.'” However, Packer claimed that Rock, 57, put a stop to the chaos. “They were laying out the options, and as they were talking, Chris … was being very dismissive of those options,” the producer recalled. “He was like, ‘No, I'm fine.’ … Even to the point where I said, 'Rock, let them finish.’ The LAPD officers finish laying out what his options were. And they said, 'Would you like us to take any action?’ And he said, ‘No.'” Packer previously poked fun at the shocking moment, tweeting after the Sunday, March 27, awards show, “Welp… I said it wouldn’t be boring #Oscars.” He went on to describe the altercation as “a very painful moment” for him “on many levels.” Smith stunned everyone in attendance at the Academy Awards on Sunday when he got up out of his seat in response to a joke Rock made about Jada Pinkett Smith‘s shaved head. (The Red Table Talk host, 50, has alopecia.) “Keep my wife’s name out your f–king mouth,” the I Am Legend actor shouted when he returned after slapping Rock across the face. Us Weekly previously confirmed that Rock declined to file an official report with the Los Angeles Police Department. Multiple sources later informed Us that Smith has not privately reached out to the comedian to address the incident. However, the King Richard star — who won the Oscar for best actor on Sunday night — did take to social media to publicly apologize to Rock. “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,” he wrote via Instagram on Monday, March 28. “My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.” Smith called himself a “work in progress,” going on to directly name Rock in his statement. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. I would also like to apologize to The Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world.” The Everybody Hates Chris alum, for his part, broke his silence on the Oscars drama during a comedy show at the Wilbur Theater in Boston. “I haven’t talked to anyone despite what you may have heard,” he reportedly told the audience on Wednesday, March 30, adding that he was “still processing what happened.” Rock put on “a great show,” an eyewitness exclusively told Us. “[The audience] laughed a lot and it really cut the tension.” |
Celebrity Splits of 2022: Stars Who Broke Up This Year Posted: 31 Mar 2022 05:08 PM PDT Calling it quits. It happens all the time, but the world never gets used to seeing celebrity couples break up. Chanel Iman and Sterling Shepard were among the stars who made headlines for their splits in 2022. Us Weekly exclusively revealed in January that the model and the NFL star were "getting divorced," though they were "going to try and remain civil and friendly towards each other." Divorce documents obtained by Us claimed that the pair were having marital issues as far back as December 2020. "The parties have experienced irreconcilable differences [and the] differences have caused a break down in the marital relationship," the papers, which were filed in June 2021, read. "Said irreconcilable differences have existed for at least six months prior to the filing [of] this Complaint and there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation." After Iman and Shepard welcomed daughter Cali in August 2018, he got real about balancing their parenting responsibilities and their relationship. (The duo also share daughter Cassie, whom they welcomed in December 2019.) "It's honestly tough whenever you put a baby into the situation because you've got to still try to find time for each other and a lot of the focus goes onto the baby," he told Us in August 2019. "So that's the main thing is just me trying to carve out a little time in my schedule and her trying to carve out time in her schedule because we're both pretty busy. That's the toughest thing about it, but we find a way to get through it." Another split that made news in 2022 was Joe and Bessy Gatto's, though they technically announced it in December 2021. The comedian revealed the separation in an Instagram post that also explained his exit from Impractical Jokers. "Alongside my friends, I've devoted a decade of my life to building this franchise and couldn't be prouder of what has been accomplished," he wrote on New Year’s Eve in 2021. "However, due to some issues in my personal life, I have to step away. Bessy and I have decided to amicably part ways, so now I need to focus on being the best father and co-parent to our two incredible kids." Bessy, for her part, addressed the breakup in her own Instagram post. "With love and respect, we have decided to separate. Although we will no longer be a couple, we will always be a family to our beautiful kids and we look forward to co-parenting together," she noted. "We ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate this new chapter together. And of course we will still continue to help animals and rescue dogs, which is something we are both passionate about!" Tiger King’s Joe Exotic Officially Files for Divorce From Dillon Passage Posted: 31 Mar 2022 05:05 PM PDT ![]() Moving on. Joe Exotic officially filed for divorce from Dillon Passage one year after putting their split on pause. The 59-year-old Tiger King star (whose real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage) submitted paperwork to a Florida courthouse on Thursday, March 31, filing to end the pair’s four-year marriage. Maldonado-Passage claimed in court documents obtained by Us Weekly that the estranged couple's union is "irretrievably broken,” prompting his request for a dissolution of marriage. The Kansas native — who is currently serving a 21-year prison sentence for animal abuse and attempted murder for hire — is seeking "temporary, rehabilitative, durational, bridge-the-gap, and lump sum alimony" to help him maintain the standard of living he had during his marriage to Passage, 26, per the docs. Maldonado-Passage asked the court to restore his former name back to Joseph Allen Maldonado and wants his estranged husband to pay his legal fees. The former Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park owner and Passage tied the knot in December 2017, and their relationship was featured on Netflix's docuseries, which debuted in early 2020. They announced their initial split in March 2021 after three years together. "Dillon thinks having to sleep alone and not have me out there is so rough and hard to deal with to the point he has to leave me," Maldonado-Passage wrote via Instagram at the time. "Now I don't even have a home." He claimed that Passage had "abandoned" him "just to have someone else to sleep with and call a lover, while the man who gave up paying for his own defense so his husband could live some kind of enjoyable life while he lives through hell." Passage, for his part, addressed the split with his own social media post, writing, "To answer the main question the public wants to know, yes, Joe and I are seeking a divorce. This wasn't an easy decision to make but Joe and I both understand that this situation isn't fair to either of us." One day later, Maldonado-Passage's lawyer Francisco Hernandez confirmed to Us that the duo had decided to put their divorce on hold. The reality stars spoke on the phone and chose to "stay married right now so things don't get complicated," Hernandez told Us in March 2021. Maldonado-Passage's legal team confirmed in a statement to Us on Thursday that former Oklahoma resident "failed to serve" Passage with divorce papers last year amid their brief talks of parting ways. Maldonado-Passage has since retained Autumn Beck Blackledge, Pensacola Family Attorney, to legally pursue the divorce. "Joe 'Exotic' has tried to obtain information about Mr. Passage and his whereabouts so that the two could enter into what he hopes to be an amicable divorce, but so far, his attempts to get Mr. Passage to contact him have failed," the attorney claimed in the statement. "It is the hope of the Tiger King that they can both move on with their lives and divorce quickly and amicably." With reporting by Diana Cooper |
Britney Spears Claims Lynne Is 'Worse' Than the Mom in 'Crossroads' Posted: 31 Mar 2022 04:10 PM PDT ![]() A Crossroads comparison. Britney Spears is calling out her real-life mother, Lynne Spears, for being "worse" than her character's absentee mom in the 2003 movie. "Scene in a movie I did a ways back In the emotional scene, Britney's character, Lucy — who just met her mother (Kim Cattrall) after a cross-country road trip to find her — cries as she recalls her mom's cruel words to her. Lucy tells her love interest, Ben (Anson Mount), that her mother claimed she "never wanted" to be a parent to her. "She said that my father made her have me and that I was just a mistake," Lucy sobs. In real life, the "Toxic" singer has also had a rocky relationship with her mom, Lynne, who she previously cowrote a memoir with in 2000. After Britney's 13-year conservatorship ended in November 2021, she has frequently used Instagram to slam her family — particularly her mom, dad (and former conservator) Jamie Spears and sister Jamie-Lynn Spears — for their alleged mistreatment of her throughout her career. "Psssss my dad may have started the conservatorship 13 years ago … but what people don’t know is that my mom is the one who gave him the idea !!!!" the "Lucky" artist claimed in a since-deleted post in November 2021. "I will never get those years back … she secretly ruined my life.” The Grammy winner continued: "So take your whole ‘I have NO IDEA what’s going on’ attitude and go f—k yourself !!!! You know exactly what you did." Before their daughter was granted her freedom, Lynne and Jamie exchanged blows in a series of court documents obtained by Us Weekly, with Jamie claiming in April 2021 that his ex-wife had “no knowledge” of what was best for Britney and had “zero involvement” in the conservatorship until it became a hotly debated topic in the headlines. Lynne went on to allege three months later that the “Circus” singer felt “nothing but fear and hatred” toward her father. The Mississippi native detailed the "mixed feelings" she was experiencing about her daughter's conservatorship in July 2021, telling The New Yorker, "It's a lot of pain, a lot of worry.” Following the court’s November 2021 decision, Britney shared another cryptic Instagram alluding to her mother's alleged involvement in her conservatorship. "I'm not even mentioning all the bad things they did to me which they should all be in jail for … yes including my church going mother !!!!" she wrote at the time. With tensions at a high, the Mickey Mouse Club alum is looking forward to her future with fiancé Sam Asghari, who proposed in September 2021 after five years of dating. "As of now, there will be none of her family who is invited to wedding," a source exclusively told Us in December 2021. |
Jessie J Calls Out ‘Wild’ Body-Shamers After Being Asked If She's Pregnant Posted: 31 Mar 2022 04:00 PM PDT Shutting it down. Jessie J told fans to “just stop” commenting on her body after being asked whether she’s pregnant. “Stop commenting on people’s weight, anyone. Just stop,” the “Price Tag” singer, 34, wrote via her Instagram Story on Thursday, March 31. “Or telling someone they look pregnant for sure, or you look skinny, just anything, just stop. I see it so much on socials and I know it happens in real life.” Jessie went on to say that while she has recently gained some weight, she feels “great” and isn’t worried about it. “I don’t care, as long as I feel good and I’m healthy,” she argued. ![]() Though she isn’t bothered by any changes her body goes through, that hasn’t stopped others from offering her unsolicited advice. “Someone literally just asked me if I was pregnant,” the “Domino” performer claimed. “And they also knew of what I went through last year and told me their thoughts on that and how I should’ve handled it. So strange and so damn bold, I would never.” In November 2021, Jessie revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage after years of attempting to start a family. “I want to be honest and true and not hide what I'm feeling. I deserve that. I want to be as myself as I can be in this moment. Not just for the audience but for myself and my little baby that did it's best,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. Jessie continued: “I decided to have a baby on my own. Because it's all I've ever wanted and life is short. To get pregnant was a miracle in itself and an experience I will never forget and I know I will have again. I’m still in shock, the sadness is overwhelming. But I know I am strong, and I know I will be ok.” The West End vet’s recent interaction prompted her to remind her social media followers that it’s “not cool” to “comment on someone else’s body.” She continued on Tuesday, “Unless they/I tell you [to] or ask your opinion, it’s not one that’s needed or helpful. Wild that some people don’t know that.” Along with discussing her 2021 miscarriage, Jessie has previously been open about her struggles with infertility. “I was told four years ago that I can't ever have children,” the Voice UK judge told the audience during a London concert in November 2018. “I wanted to write this song [‘Four Letter Word’] for myself in my moment of pain and sadness but also to give myself joy, to give other people something that they can listen to in the moment when it gets really hard. So if you've ever experienced anything with this or have seen somebody else go through it or have lost a child, then please know you're not alone in your pain and I'm thinking of you when I sing this song." In June 2019, Jessie confessed that she wasn’t giving up her hope of becoming a mother one day. "I've always been someone that's open and honest," she said on the “Heart Breakfast” radio podcast at the time. "Four, four-and-a-half, five years ago, I was diagnosed with this disease, which is making it harder. I was told I can't have children, but I don't believe it. I believe in miracles. I haven't given up." |

Meghan King and Cuffe Owens went from zero to 60 with their relationship after meeting on a dating app in September 2021. "Within a week, we were back on the East Coast, meeting his family, and starting to plan our future together," King told Brides in October 2021 of the couple's beginnings. "We didn't leave each other's side for weeks." Us Weekly later confirmed that the Real Housewives of Orange County alum met Owens less than one month before the couple walked down the aisle in October 2021. Their whirlwind romance came as a surprise to some because King made her relationship with the attorney Instagram official just a few weeks earlier. "Her family is a bit shocked that she tied the knot so quickly," a source exclusively told Us after the duo's nuptials, which were attended by Owens' uncle President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden. King's three children, daughter Aspen and twin sons Hart and Hayes, whom she shares ex-husband Jim Edmonds, were also at the intimate ceremony. "Our wedding was about two things for us," the "Intimate Knowledge" podcast host told Brides of her and Owens' big day. "Our love for and commitment to each other, and our family — each of our families, and the new very large and very tight family that we were bonding together by getting married. That's it." The wedding, which took place at Owens' parents' home in Pennsylvania, is the TV personality's third wedding. She was previously married to college sweetheart Brad McDill from 2007 to 2011 before getting hitched a second time to Edmonds in October 2014. The pair called it quits in October 2019, finalizing their divorce in May 2021. King revealed via Instagram in October 2021 that she and Owens "just knew" they were meant to be. "Our vision was of an intimate and simple gathering — no major frills, no overthinking, no drama,” she told the magazine of their small event. "We both knew exactly what we were going to do, where we were going to do it, and how we were going to do it. It's a beautiful thing to see eye-to-eye with each other as we do.” However, things ended for the pair just as quickly as they began. In December 2021, King confirmed via her Instagram Story that she and Owens called it quits. “I am rattled. This situation is profoundly devastating,” she wrote shortly after Christmas. “This is obviously not what I imagined when I made my vows — and I’m shocked and saddened by the way things turned out. Meghan King: Cuffe Owens Relationship ‘Felt Like an Arranged Marriage’ Posted: 31 Mar 2022 03:42 PM PDT ![]() Not all marriages are created equal. Meghan King got real about her three weddings, noting that her brief romance with Cuffe Owens felt somewhat staged. "He said all the right things and I and the families were a good, good fit," the 37-year-old TV personality said on the Thursday, March 31, episode of SiriusXM's Jeff Lewis Live. "And he seemed to grow up similarly to me." The Real Housewives of Orange County alum revealed, "It was almost like an arranged marriage, I felt like, except we chose one another." ![]() When asked whether she saw any red flags with the Georgetown University alum, King said yes, noting that Owens was also a good actor. "I think that I was so ready for a partner," she explained. "I have three little kids that I have all the time pretty much. And so, I just really want some help and I want a partnership." King and Owens, 43, tied the knot in October 2021 just one month after they met on a dating app. Owens' uncle President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, were in attendance for the nuptials, as were King's three children: daughter Aspen, 5, and twin sons Hart and Hayes, 3, whom she shares with ex-husband Jim Edmonds. The "Intimate Knowledge" podcast cohost and the attorney called it quits in December 2021 and have plans to get the union annulled. King's split from Owens marked her third failed union. She was previously married to college sweetheart Brad McDill for four years before they split in 2011. King got hitched for a second time to Edmonds, 51, in October 2014, but they called it quits five years later. "I was married when I was 22. Yeah, so I feel like that one didn’t count, you know, that was like a practice," King told radio host Jeff Lewis on Thursday. The St. Louis native called her relationship with Edmonds a "real, legitimate marriage and divorce." The twosome finalized their divorce in May 2021. "Then this last one is gonna be annulled, so I’ve had three weddings and two marriages," King said, adding that she feels like she was only really married once. Despite her track record with love, the former Bravo star agreed with Lewis, 52, that she is kind of a "love addict," explaining that the security of a relationship is something she longs for. "I love falling in love, but you know what I like more than falling in love? I like the stable part. Like the honeymoon phase is great and everything, but I really just want stability and I want a partner," King confessed. "And so that’s what I’m looking for over and over and over and I’m getting it wrong. So something is off." |
His 'Love Song'! Elton John and David Furnish Through the Years Posted: 31 Mar 2022 02:33 PM PDT His perfect "Love Song"! Sir Elton John and David Furnish have an everlasting love story after connecting right off the bat. "He was very well dressed, very shy," the "Rocketman" crooner told Parade in early 2010 of their first meeting in 1993. "We fell in love very quickly. He was independent. I didn’t need to take care of him. I thought, ‘God, this is new territory for me — someone wants to be with me just because he likes me.'" After spending nearly a dozen years together, the pair made their relationship official in December 2005 shortly after same-sex civil partnerships were declared legal in England. The twosome — who tied the knot in December 2014 — eventually expanded their family, welcoming sons Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John and Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John in 2010 and 2013, respectively. "For many years we have talked about fulfilling one of our greatest wishes by becoming parents,” the pianist exclusively told Us Weekly in December 2010. “And now this wish has been granted to us, we feel so blessed and lucky." He continued: "I’ve never felt anything like it in my life [holding Zachary for the first time]. You're so awestruck. What can you say? You take it in. The feeling, the joy, the warmth of his body, his breathing. I will never forget that experience ever." While John announced his musical retirement in January 2018, he's already passed down his interests to the duo's children. "They've obviously been exposed to a lot of music in their life," Furnish exclusively told Us in March 2022 at the 30th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party. "They both love music. All Elton and I try to do as parents is expose them to as many things as possible and encourage them to be open-minded and follow in life what they love and what they feel passionate about. That's more important than anything. You can't tell your kids what to do." John — who publicly came out as gay in 1996 — opened up about his journey and meeting the "love of [his] life" in an open letter to Zachary and Elijah. "Looking back over the past 75 years, there is so much I am proud of, so much I have learned. As you are the two most precious parts of my life, I want to share some of those lessons with you," the songwriter penned in a Time magazine essay in March 2022. "When I was young, I was told to fit in, to do what others expected even when it didn't feel right. Now I realize I can only be me. Being true to myself is what gave me my voice and helped me face my greatest fears. I've forged deep friendships, found the love of my life and became your Daddy. Whoever you grow up to be, just be you — fully and completely you." He added: "I know being accepted for who you really are in the world isn't always easy. And in my 75 years as a gay man, I have seen so much positive social change. It used to be that LGBTQ+ people were seen as ‘wrong,’ or ‘the bad guys.’ We still have a ways to go, but, your Papa and I felt safe enough to bring you both into this world. We believed you would be welcome here, as the children of two daddies.” Scroll below for the pair's complete relationship timeline: ![]() Music superstar John met film director and producer Furnish at a dinner party in 1993. Amanda Bynes Through the Years: Photos Posted: 31 Mar 2022 02:14 PM PDT She's all that All That! Amanda Bynes has had a roller-coaster of a ride in Hollywood since she first rose to fame as a cast member on the '90s Nickelodeon sketch show. The California native broke into the entertainment business at the age of 7 and quickly became one of the biggest child actors of her generation. After putting her comedic talents on display on All That for a few seasons, she landed her own series, The Amanda Show, which ran from 1999 to 2002. As her time on both comedy shows came to a close in 2022, Bynes made her big screen debut as Kaylee in Big Fat Liar. Her success in movies only grew from there, landing the role of Daphne Reynolds in 2003's What a Girl Wants before starring alongside Channing Tatum in 2006's She's the Man. The What I Like About You alum remained a Hollywood staple throughout the early 2000s, with hits that included Hairspray and Sydney White. She took a brief hiatus from acting in 2010 and announced at the time that she was retiring at 24, explaining via Twitter that "being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem." She quickly "unretired" a few weeks later, sharing that she was playing Marianne in 2010's Easy A, which also starred Emma Stone and Penn Badgley. Two years later, the former child star's personal life began to make bigger headlines than her career after she was arrested on suspicion of DUI in April 2012. While she pleaded not guilty, Bynes was charged with two misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run in September 2012. The following year, the comedian was placed under a temporary conservatorship in August 2013 amid an accumulation of mental health and substance abuse issues. The decision came one month after Bynes was hospitalized and put on a psychiatric hold for setting a fire in a stranger's driveway in July 2013. The Canned actress has since been vocal about her struggles with mental health, telling Paper Magazine in November 2018, "I just had no purpose in life. I'd been working my whole life and [now] I was doing nothing. I had a lot of time on my hands, and I would 'wake and bake' and literally be stoned all day long. [I was] hanging out with a seedier crowd and I isolated a lot … I got really into my drug usage, and it became a really dark, sad world for me." The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising graduate — who hasn't had an acting role since 2010 — filed to end her conservatorship in February 2022 after nearly nine years. According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Bynes "desires to live free of any constraint" in the future after working toward becoming a healthier and independent person free from drugs. Razzies Rescind Bruce Willis Award Following Backlash: 'Not Appropriate' Posted: 31 Mar 2022 01:43 PM PDT ![]() A change of heart. The Razzie Awards have walked back their decision to continue their "Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in 2021" award following the actor’s recent health issues. "After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis," cofounders John Wilson and Mo Murphy said in a statement to Us Weekly on Thursday, March 31. "If someone's medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie." The comical take on the Academy Awards, also known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, faced backlash for their initial response to concerns about the trophy. "The Razzies are truly sorry for #BruceWillis diagnosed condition. Perhaps this explains why he wanted to go out with a bang in 2021. Our best wishes to Bruce and family," the Twitter account for the awards show tweeted on Wednesday, March 30. "To clarify, we heard about Willis’ diagnosis at the same time everyone else did … just this morning." Earlier that day, Willis’ loved ones announced that the Armageddon star, 67, would be “stepping away” from his acting career. "As a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia," an Instagram statement from Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, his ex-wife, Demi Moore, and his children read on Wednesday. "As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him." The social media post noted that his medical diagnosis has been "impacting his cognitive abilities” in recent years. “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support,” his family concluded. “We are moving through this as a strong family unit and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.” That same day, Wilson and Murphy addressed the negative feedback about the Bruce Razzie award. "We are truly sorry to hear about Willis' diagnosis, of which we were unaware until the story broke earlier today. In Willis' defense, perhaps his reps should not have let him do such a high volume of work in so short a time. We offer our best wishes to Bruce and his family," they told IndieWire, later adding, "We are still discussing how to handle the news about Willis' diagnosis and will get back to you." |
Love Is Blind's Shake Plans Miami Move: I'm 'Taking a Break' From Vet Job Posted: 31 Mar 2022 01:30 PM PDT Making moves! Abhishek “Shake” Chatterjee is ready to start fresh following his dramatic stint on Love Is Blind season 2. The 33-year-old Netflix personality exclusively tells Us Weekly that he’s moving to Miami and will “hopefully” be completely settled in Florida by the end of the summer. However, his location isn’t the only major life change he has in the works. “I’m taking a break from being a vet,” he reveals. “The vet field is amazing in so many ways, but it’s also incredibly draining, both physically and emotionally.” Shake is shifting his focus to “new opportunities popping up in the crypto and NFT space,” he explains. “I’m not saying I’ll never go back to being a vet,” he adds. “But right now, it’s just not where my heart is. … I’m honored to be able to care for pets and take care of animals. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart, and for all I know, I might go back to that one day. But it probably won’t be this year.” The aspiring DJ didn’t need to do “a lot of thinking” before deciding to move to the same city as his girlfriend, Emily Wilson. “Sometimes life pushes you in the right direction,” he tells Us. “I’ve been in Chicago most of my life and I’m ready for a new city, a warmer city. And musically, as a DJ, I already have a lot of contacts there and opportunities there.” Fans met Shake during the second season of Love Is Blind, which premiered in February. While in the pods, he got engaged to Deepti Vempati, but the twosome didn’t get their happy ending. Throughout their relationship, Shake frequently told their costars that he didn’t feel physically attracted to the 31-year-old data analyst, who left him at the altar on their wedding day. “There’s a lot of things that he said that he didn’t say to my face and [things] I’ve heard from other cast members,” Deepti exclusively told Us ahead of the season 2 finale. “I just don’t have room for anybody in my life that doesn’t see me in the best way. And who could even think those types of thoughts, I guess.” The exes sparred on camera during the heated reunion special, which also pitted Shake against cohosts Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey. Despite the drama, Shake has made it clear that he’s moving on, debuting his new romance via Instagram earlier this month. “Good things come to those who w̶a̶i̶t̶ don’t settle Before Shake planned his Miami move, a source exclusively told Us that the couple were “making long distance work” after meeting while Shake was visiting the Sunshine State. “It’s moved really quickly,” the source said of the pair’s romance. “She’s really, really happy, and it seems pretty serious — as serious it can be after a couple weeks of dating. She thinks that he could be The One — it’s that type of seriousness. Like, a love-at-first-sight type of relationship.” Scroll down for more exclusive details on Shake’s future after Love Is Blind: ![]() The reality TV alum is gradually making his way to Florida, telling Us he'll "be kind of back and forth" between Miami and Chicago before he's settled in this summer. Courtesy of Shake Chatterjee ![]() "It's entirely possible," he tells Us of living with Emily, hinting that sharing an address with his girlfriend is still "to be determined." However, the couple are "super excited" for what's to come. "We're having a lot of fun together and we're very in sync," Shake says. "If it wasn't for her, I'd still be thinking about Miami, but it just kind of seals the deal, you know what I mean? It's a sign from above ... that this is the right decision." Courtesy of Shake Chatterjee ![]() Shake is looking forward to "pivoting into this new, exciting world" of crypto after years in the veterinarian business. "It's an interesting contrast from vet [medicine] ... It is the slowest industry to adapt, to change, to accept," he explains. "It's, like, the care is there but the attitudes, you know, [are outdated]. And I'm forward-thinking, I always have been, so I want to give that side of me an opportunity to really take a chance and go for it. ... Sometimes you have to let go of having every answer and take a chance and go with what feels right." With reporting by Diana Cooper Courtesy of Shake Chatterjee |
Stars Defending Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson Amid Kanye West Drama Posted: 31 Mar 2022 01:18 PM PDT On their side. As Kanye West continues to voice his displeasure with Kim Kardashian dating Pete Davidson, some celebrities have chosen to stand by the couple. Earlier this month, West made headlines when he released a music video for his song “Eazy,” which included scenes of him kidnapping and beheading his estranged wife’s new man. The video’s lyrics read, "God saved me from that crash, just so I could beat Pete Davidson's ass." In response, director James Gunn took to social media to call out the behavior, tweeting, “For the record, Pete Davidson is one of the nicest, sweetest guys I know. A truly generous, tender & funny spirit, he treats everyone around him with respect.” The reality star, who has stayed mostly mum about West’s comments toward Davidson, showed her support by “liking” the tweet. Kardashian and Davidson originally met when she hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live in October 2021. After they sparked romance rumors that same month, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the comedian waited until they were done working together to make a move. “He was a true professional the whole time they rehearsed and in between takes, but afterward things got flirty,” the insider revealed in November 2021. “They exchanged numbers and Pete asked if Kim would like to hang out sometime, which she agreed to straight away.” As the pair continued to spend time together, West made it clear that he wasn’t thrilled with Kardashian’s choice. The Yeezy designer previously stated that the New York native would "never" meet his children. “HOLD YOUR SPOUSE CLOSE MAKE SURE THEY KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVE AND APPRECIATE THEM BECAUSE THERES A SKETE LURKING IN EVERY DIRTY ASS ALLEY WAITING TO HELP DESTROY YOUR FAMILY AND WALK AROUND IN CALVIN KLEINS AROUND YOUR CHILDREN,” West, who shares daughter North, son Saint, daughter Chicago and son Psalm with Kardashian, wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. The rapper also shared an alleged text message from the Skims founder. “U are creating a dangerous and scary environment and someone will hurt Pete and this will all be your fault,” one message from the California native read in February. “I will always do everything to protect you and our family forever. And I listened to you and told everyone to make sure nothing physical happens to Skete.” West later apologized for sharing personal matters online, writing via Instagram, “I’ve learned that using all caps makes people feel like I’m screaming at them. I’m working on my communication. “I can benefit from a team of creative professionals, organizers, mobilizers and community leaders. Thank everybody for supporting me.” He continued: “I know sharing screen shots was jarring and came off as harassing Kim. I take accountability. I’m still learning in real time. I don’t have all the answers. To be good leader is to be a good listener.” As West continued to call out Davidson, a second source told Us that the couple were choosing to stay “far away” from West. “He’s not afraid of him — he just doesn’t want to get involved in the divorce drama,” the insider shared. "We love everybody, man. We have so much love. It's almost like, if we need to be the vessels for people's anger, so be it,” the Mainstream Sellout artist told Howard Stern in March 2022. “That must be why we're here. I do hope that they can feel our spirit and see that we love you." Action Press/Shutterstock ![]() The Daily Show alum came to Davidson’s defense on a March 2022 episode of “The Howard Stern Show.” “He’s just a f--king smart, funny kid trying to live his life,” Stewart said of the fellow comedian, who he referred to as “one of my favorite people.” He added: “I think he's doing as best you can in that situation when you're dealing with something that's so explosive and loaded with all kinds of other things. I just love that kid." Debra L Rothenberg/Shutterstock ![]() “The point is Kim Kardashian and countless other women, they find themselves in a terrible position,” the host said during the Daily Show in March 2022. “Because asking Kanye to stop clearly isn’t helping but at the same time he hasn’t broken any laws, so can she get him arrested? No, I don’t think so." The South Africa native added: "Would she even want to? I mean, she spends half her time helping Black people come out of jail so now she can’t throw Kanye West in. That’s a bit of a paradox. But still, she’s being harassed.” Danny Moloshok/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() The fellow comedian — who costarred in The King of Staten Island with Davidson — stood up for his pal via his Instagram Story in March 2022. "PD is my brother, none of this is funny to me nor entertaining," Velez wrote. "A 44 year old [sic] man internet thugging is just sad." Patrick Lewis/Starpix/Shutterstock ![]() The Kiss rocker advised "cool guy" Davidson to "ignore" the Chicago native's criticism during a March 2022 interview with TMZ. "Get a hobby. That's better. Leave them alone, move on," Simmons added of West. "Love your kids. Love the mother of your kids and let her make her own decisions. She's a grown-ass woman now and she doesn't need your permission." The Rock School alum also said it's "possible" that the "Heartless" singer needs "a good bitch slap." Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() In response to Gunn's commentary, Cuoco replied "facts" and included a red heart emoji. The Big Bang Theory alum previously worked with Davidson on the movie Meet Cute. At the time, an insider noted that the costars "bonded" during their time on set. Dan Steinberg/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() During an interview, Hughley called out society for laughing off the way West speaks about Kardashian's relationship with Davidson. “It's not funny. It's never been funny. I think I have watched too many times when things like that happen. And a woman or somebody is not believed and then things escalate," the radio personality explained in the viral video in March 2022. "He is stalking her. You can think it’s cute. If it was my daughter, I’d do something about it. I think you can't write a beat so good that you can get to do these things." Shutterstock ![]() In February 2022, West offered to pay Che double his salary if he stopped working with Davidson on SNL. The Weekend Update cohost, for his part, replied, “Sorry Ye, but I would never betray my friends." Che then jokingly responded that he wouldn't leave, “For anything less than TRIPLE salary. That’s right, $90k per year! Full medical. Full dental. Four weeks vacay. Corner office. Plus, a pair of Red Octobers. Size 12. And you gotta make some beats for my band, The Slap Butts. And you gotta tell me what you’re gonna wear to work the night before so we can look like twins. You do that for me, and I’ll Rambo that whole building." Owen Sweeney/Invision/AP/Shutterstock |
Everything Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly Had Said About Their 'Soul' Love Posted: 31 Mar 2022 01:00 PM PDT A mystical feeling! Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly have not stopped talking about their once-in-a-lifetime connection since they started dating in May 2020. The pair met in March of that year on the set of Midnight in the Switchgrass, and though it took a couple months for their relationship to turn romantic, they both knew right away that they had something special. "I'm locked in already right now,” the rapper said in August 2020, replying to a fan who asked him on a date during an episode of BuzzFeed Celeb’s Thirst Tweets. “No dates for me. Probably ever.” The “Drunk Face” singer has also said that Fox has been helpful as he works through his drug addiction recovery. "When you have a partner, mine being Megan, sitting there with you on those dark nights when you're sweating and not being able to figure out why you're so in your head, to help you get out of your head and put it in perspective, that really, really helps," he told Interview magazine in November 2020. The Jennifer’s Body star, meanwhile, called the musician her “twin flame” just one month after Us Weekly confirmed that the duo were a couple. "Megan and MGK have gotten more serious and are officially dating and referring to one another as boyfriend and girlfriend," an insider told Us in June 2020. "They're enjoying spending more and more time together and have a strong connection." Within months of their romance kicking off, Kelly (real name Colson Baker) said that Fox had made him a “better” person. “I think the universe caught on to me wanting to make a change,” he told NME in October 2020. “It was like, 'Maybe we won't make this a reality; maybe we'll make this ironic.’ Instead of the downfall, go ahead and have the biggest rise of your f–king life." In February 2021, the Hope & Faith alum cemented the duo’s relationship with an unusual gift: a necklace containing a vial of her blood. “Well, she was actually going out of town to film a movie. This was really new in our relationship," the Bird Box star told Ellen DeGeneres in May 2021. "I didn't have a passport either. So, she was going out to Bulgaria so I was kind of freaking out, like, 'You're gonna leave and I can't even come see you.’" Kelly carries the pendant with him when he doesn’t wear it. "Some people give, like, a handkerchief to their partner or whatever,” he added. “She gave me her DNA." Keep scrolling to see everything Fox and Kelly have said about their soulful relationship: ![]() After finding out that Kelly was going to be her costar in Midnight in the Switchgrass, Fox could sense that something important was about to happen. “Immediately, I was like, ‘Uh oh,'” the New Girl alum said in July 2020. “I could feel that some wild s–t was going to happen to me from that meeting, but I wasn’t yet sure what. I just felt it like, deep in my soul.” ABC/Shutterstock ![]() “The second that I was in a room with him … I knew right away that he was what I call a twin flame,” the Jonah Hex star told astrologer Susan Miller in 2020. “Instead of a soul mate, a twin flame is actually where a soul has ascended into a high enough level that it can be split into two different bodies at the same time. So we’re actually two halves of the same soul, I think. And I said that to him almost immediately because I felt it right away.” Courtesy of Megan Fox/Instagram ![]() “I didn’t know what [love] was until me and her made eye contact,” Kelly said during a September 2020 episode of The Howard Stern Show. “That’s when I was like, ‘Whoa.'” He added: “After I made the big chunk of the album, I did fall in love for the first time. That was my first experience with being open to love and stuff like that. I definitely wasn’t set up to believe that that’s something that could ever exist.” Courtesy of Megan Fox/Instagram ![]() In November 2020, Fox described her romance with the rapper as a “once-in-a-lifetime thing” and used the phrase “mythic proportions" to describe their connection. “Loving him is like being in love with a tsunami or a forest fire,” she told Nylon. “The intensity of merging with him is just overwhelming, and the threat it poses is so powerful but so beautiful that you have no choice to surrender with reverence and with gratitude.” iamKevinWong.com/MEGA ![]() “I looked into his eyes [and] I felt the most pristine, most gentle, most pure spirit," the Tennessee native told Nylon, describing the moment she started working with MGK on Midnight in the Switchgrass. "My heart shattered immediately and I just knew that I was f—ked.” Courtesy of Megan Fox/Instagram ![]() In November 2020, the "Let You Go" singer admitted that he was happy his relationship with Fox had helped him take a break from the stresses of life. “Love is not what’s being encouraged now. In fact, it’s exactly the opposite: Everything now is isolation, dehumanization, separation,” Kelly told Nylon at the time. “And f—k, dude, you have in your head that you’re this rock star, with multiple women and all that. ... So, finding someone that can take you out of the fast lane and make sure that you're safe, because at any minute you can crash — I love that it can evolve into that.” Courtesy of Megan Fox/Instagram ![]() The duo only worked together for two days on Midnight, but they still had what Fox described as a “magical” connection. “The first time I looked into his eyes, I was like . . . 'I know you. I have known you so many times, in so many different forms, in so many different lives,'" the actress told The Washington Post in June 2021, adding that she "wasn’t expecting it’d be like, ‘God, you are my soulmate,’ instantly.” Courtesy of Machine Gun Kelly/Instagram ![]() “When I met [Kelly], I knew instantly that this is a soul I’ve traveled with before, that this was a soulmate connection and that there was a purpose here,” Fox told Who What Wear in July 2021. Chelsea Lauren/Shutterstock ![]() During a July 2021 interview with USA Today, Fox said it was destiny — not work — that brought her to her boyfriend. However, being in the same movie didn’t hurt the situation. "It was just two people who were primed and supposed to be together," she said. "We were meant to meet each other." The Jennifer's Body star also shared what it was like to act with her beau. "He's a lot bigger than me," she noted. "He's like seven feet tall and I'm tiny, so this is not something that's going to happen in real life. But it went OK. We didn't know each other yet, so it was just like two actors doing a fight scene, but with a little added sparkle." She continued, “The first day I felt crazy. That energy was really overwhelming and super chaotic. I was having all these feelings and I wasn't sure what they were, I just knew something intense was happening." Courtesy of Machine Gun Kelly/Instagram ![]() “In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree, we asked for magic,” Fox captioned Instagram footage from their January 2022 proposal, gushing about their connection. “We were oblivious to the pain we would face together in such a short, frenetic period of time. Unaware of the work and sacrifices the relationship would require from us but intoxicated off of the love. And the karma.”She continued in her post: “Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possible, he asked me to marry him. And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes … and then we drank each other’s blood.” Courtesy of Machine Gun Kelly/Instagram ![]() “This is the first true intense relationship that I’ve been in,” the Bird Box actor revealed to Howard Stern in March 2022, noting that he and Fox were in a “dangerous place” in their romance when he wrote the first song for Mainstream Sellout, titled "5150." As they worked through things, the couple searched "for healing in ways of, like, the plant medicine, ayahuasca,” he said of their experimentation with the psychedelic drink. Every Time Celebs Weighed In on Jada and Will's Most Talked About Moments Posted: 31 Mar 2022 12:56 PM PDT An honest approach. Over the years, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been transparent about their evolving marriage and the bumps in the road. Smith and Pinkett Smith’s relationship made waves in June 2020 when August Alsina claimed that he was recently in a relationship with the Scream 2 star. At the time, the singer noted that Smith was aware of his connection with his wife. One month later, the Girls Trip actress addressed her "entanglement” with Alsina. "Yes, it was a relationship, absolutely. I was in a lot of pain, and I was very broken,” she revealed on Red Table Talk in July 2020. “Now in the process of that relationship, I definitely realized that you can’t find happiness outside of yourself." The Suicide Squad star, who joined Pinkett Smith on the talk show, also confirmed that they were through a brief separation. "I was done with your ass. I was done with you," he joked at the time, referring to a split in 2015. "Marriages have that, though. We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time, and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I'll try to figure out how to make myself happy. I really felt like we could be over." That same month, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that discussing their issues in an open forum brought the couple to a better place. "The Smiths as a family are really glad they addressed this and put everything out in the open," the insider explained. "Will and Jada, at the end of the day, are like a normal couple who just happen to be glorified because they're famous. They have fought. They have reconciled. At the end of the day, they do love each other." The Philadelphia native later elaborated on when monogamy was explored in his marriage. "Jada never believed in conventional marriage … Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship,” Smith, who has been married to Pinkett Smith since 1997, told GQ in September 2021. “So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up.” Smith noted that their expectations in their relationship changed as they got older. "There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection?” he continued. “And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection." Amid further speculation of cheating, Smith shut down assumptions from people who weren’t familiar with the couple. “Never. There’s never been infidelity in our marriage,” he said on CBS Sunday Morning, noting that the pair “talk about everything” with one another. “And we have never surprised one another with anything ever.” For the I am Legend star, communication helped led him and Pinkett Smith to a better place. “But the heart and soul of our union was then, and is still today, intense, luminescent conversation. Even to the writing of this very sentence, if Jada and I begin a conversation, it is a minimum two-hour endeavor. And it is not uncommon that we talk for five or six hours at a stretch,” he wrote in his memoir, which was released in November 2021. “Our joy of pondering and pursuing the mysteries of the universe, through the mirror of each other’s experience, is unbridled ecstasy. Even in the depths of disagreement, there is nothing in this world that either of us more cherishes or enjoys than the opportunity to grow and learn from each other through passionate communication.” In March 2022, Smith raised eyebrows when he slapped Chris Rock during the 94th annual Academy Awards after Rock joked about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. The Hitch star hit Rock before yelling, "Keep my wife's name out your f—king mouth.” The incident had Hollywood divided, with some stars questioning Smith’s reaction and others defending him for standing up for his wife. Pinkett Smith, for her part, rolled her eyes at Rock’s joke after being candid about her alopecia diagnosis since 2018. It was exactly that. I think it’s just the language that probably stuck out to people." He added: "But I definitely have to agree with it being an entanglement. It definitely was something complicated, a complicated dynamic.” Veda Jo Jenkins/Shutterstock ![]() Shortly after Pinkett Smith and Smith addressed their ups and downs, the Dear White People alum came to their defense. "I feel bad for Will and Jada right now, because they've been extremely vulnerable with their personal story. And it takes a lot of courage to do that," Long told Entertainment Tonight in July 2020. "When you have a show like Red Table Talk, you want to be what you are sharing with the world, and that's gotta be a tremendous amount of pressure. Love is a complicated thing." MediaPunch/Shutterstock ![]() "I have not stayed in contact during this incredibly awkward time," Smith's former costar exclusively told Us in July 2020. "I will wait for things to settle back down, and then I will reach out and just say, 'Hey guys, I love you.'" MediaPunch/Shutterstock ![]() After Pinkett Smith got candid about her marriage, her daughter praised her vulnerable approach. "I want to put it on the table. I'm so proud of you. To be able to see you and Dad do that, for me, that was like, 'OK, that's the real deal. That's real love,'" Willow told her mother during an episode of Red Table Talk in September 2020. When you can be like, 'I'm with you, I'm going to stand by you and I'm going to hold your hand because I love you.' That's really important." Image Press Agency/NurPhoto/Shutterstock ![]() In February 2022, the Orange Is the New Black alum brought up Pinkett Smith and Will's comments about their marriage. “We love you. Thank you for all the years of joy you've brought us,” the E! pre-show host said ahead of the SAG Awards. “We can't wait for more Red Table Talk and more entanglements.” The twosome laughed off the joke before Pinkett Smith responded, “No more of those.” Cox replied, “No more entanglements! I love you, girl. I’m just kidding. I’m just joshing you.” Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock ![]() During the 2022 Oscars, Hall introduced a bit where she invited single actors on stage while pretending that their COVID-19 tests got lost. That’s what every woman wants, right? She was hurt. And he protected his wife. And that’s what a man is supposed to do.” Chelsea Lauren/Shutterstock |
Watch a Breakdown of Will Smith and Chris Rock's History Before the Oscars Posted: 31 Mar 2022 12:52 PM PDT Before the slap. Will Smith and Chris Rock‘s altercation at the 2022 Oscars made tons of headlines, but the duo’s history began well before the comedian’s joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. The Saturday Night Live alum, 57, made a cameo appearance on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1995, playing Maurice, a famous actor, and Maurice’s sister, Jasmine. Rock was already a successful stand-up comedian at that point, but the Ali actor, 53, was just starting to become a household name. Pinkett Smith, 50, also met her future husband on the set of Fresh Prince. In 1994, she auditioned to play Lisa Wilkes, the girlfriend of his character (also named Will Smith). The Magic Mike XXL actress lost the role to Nia Long, but she later gained a spouse — she and Smith tied the knot in December 1997. The couple went on to welcome son Jaden Smith, now 23, and daughter Willow Smith, now 21. (Will also shares son Trey, 29, with ex-wife Sheree Zampino.) While Rock and the Men in Black star haven’t worked together since Fresh Prince, the Grown Ups actor and Pinkett Smith collaborated for the first time in 2005. The Matrix Reloaded star provided the voice of a hippo named Gloria in the animated film Madagascar, while Rock played a zebra named Marty. The twosome reprised their roles in the 2008 and 2012 sequels. During the press tour for 2012’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Rock revealed that his children are big fans of Will and Pinkett Smith’s daughter, Willow. The Dogma star shares daughters Lola, 19, and Zahra, 17, with ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock. “Hey, my kids listen to your kids!” Rock said during an interview with Fuse at the time, recalling what he told his costar. “’21st Century Girl’ Oh, my God. And they love LMFAO, but they have no idea what it stands for.” Four years later, however, tensions rose when Rock referenced the Smith family during his opening monologue while hosting the 2016 Oscars. The Academy faced criticism that year for a lack of diversity among the nominees. "Jada got mad, said she's not coming," Rock said. "Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties. I wasn't invited." He went on to reference Will, who was snubbed that year for a nomination despite a critically acclaimed performance in the film Concussion. "It's not fair that Will was this good and didn't get nominated," Rock quipped. "It's also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West." That's really not who I am. I'm trying to find a girl that I can be with and have a family with, you know?" Duhamel also reflected on his failed romance with Fergie at the time. "Ferg and I had a great relationship. I love that girl and I always will. Unfortunately, we didn't work, but I will always have her back and she is the mother of my baby," he shared. "She's awesome. She Said Yes! Bringing Up Bates' Trace Is Engaged to GF Lydia Romeike Posted: 31 Mar 2022 12:10 PM PDT The Bates family is getting bigger! Trace Bates is engaged to girlfriend Lydia Romeike, Us Weekly exclusively confirms. The 25-year-old reality star popped the question on March 21 on the rooftop of the Embassy Suites hotel in Knoxville, Tennessee. The UPtv personality and Lydia, 24, were surrounded by two floral towers and romantic candles as Trace got down on one knee. “It’s hard to describe the emotions you feel when you are fixing to ask the girl of your dreams to marry you,” the son of Kelly and Gil Bates noted in an exclusive statement to Us. “I just know that Lydia is my best friend, and she’s the most positive thing in my life. It’s hard to imagine a day going by without seeing her or talking to her. I knew I wanted her to be by my side forever, but planning the where and the how and all of the details of the engagement was a task!” Trace continued: “I wanted the timing and setting to all be a huge surprise, so I was grateful for the help of my sister Josie [Bates] and her friend Chloe. It’s hard to believe we are finally engaged and are making wedding plans!” Josie, 22, and their friend arranged the white bouquets that decorated the rooftop on the happy couple’s big day. Lydia, for her part, told Us that she was “totally shocked” by the proposal. “I thought Trace was in Nashville helping his brother Lawson renovate his newly purchased home,” the future bride recalled. “He even texted me pictures of himself working in the house, which I later found out had been taken earlier just for this occasion. He had our friend Chloe ‘hire’ me to do a photo shoot on the roof, so I actually thought I was going to work.” The doors to the rooftop had been covered with a black curtain, but Lydia said she “didn’t even notice” that attempt at concealing the surprise. “When I opened the door, Trace was standing in his suit in front of this gorgeously decorated backdrop and I think I just stood there stunned for a few minutes,” she gushed. “Our song was playing over the hotel speakers, and Trace dropped to one knee to propose.” Lydia told Us, “I don’t think I’ve ever admired him more or been more speechless! He went through so many hoops and planned so hard to make this day perfect for me, and I feel so blessed to be preparing to marry someone that loves me so much. I’m overjoyed!” The newly engaged couple began dating in August 2021, confirming their romance via Instagram that December. “So blessed to call you mine Weeks before marking their relationship milestone, Lydia shared a series of sweet snaps with her beau, gushing via Instagram on March 7, “I love you more everyday Trace previously dated Chaney Kahle, confirming the beginning of their courtship in September 2019. However, the twosome called it quits by the following February. Scroll down for an exclusive look at Trace and Lydia’s engagement: ![]() Trace is the latest of the 19 Bates children to get engaged. Daniel Radcliffe: I’m ‘Bored’ of Hearing Opinions About Will Smith's Slap Posted: 31 Mar 2022 11:39 AM PDT The slap heard 'round the world. Will Smith stunned the star-studded audience — and everyone watching at home — when he took to the stage and smacked Chris Rock across the face after the comedian made a "joke" about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair loss at the 2022 Oscars on Sunday, March 27. "Jada, I love you," the comedian said from the stage, quipping, "G.I. Jane 2, can't wait to see it," referring to the actress' buzzed head, as G.I. Jane star Demi Moore wore a similar style. (Pinkett Smith, 50, has often been open about losing her hair due to alopecia.) As the camera cut to the Smiths, the King Richard star, 53 — who later won the Oscar for best actor — seemed to smile at Rock's joke, while Pinkett Smith intensely rolled her eyes. Though it initially seemed that Smith was OK with the quip, he quickly walked onstage and slapped the Longest Yard actor, 57, across the face. Once he returned to his seat, he yelled, "Keep my wife's name out of your f–king mouth.” "Wow. Will Smith just smacked the s–t outta me," Rock said to the audience before returning to handing out the award for best documentary. For his part, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum later referenced — and apologized for — the altercation in his speech when accepting his Oscar for King Richard. ![]() "Oh, man. Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family," Smith said, relating his behavior to that of Serena and Venus Williams' father, the role he played in the film. "I'm being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people. I know to do what we do, you got to be able to take abuse. You got to be able to have people talk crazy about you. In this business you got to be able to have people disrespecting you. And you got to smile, you got to pretend like that's OK." The 7 Pounds actor also apologized to several people for his behavior — though not explicitly to Rock. "I want to apologize to the academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees," he added. "Art imitates life: I look like the crazy father. Just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things." He later apologized directly to the presenter the following day in a lengthy statement. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris,” Smith wrote via Instagram on March 28. “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.” Stars who were both in attendance and watching at home had a lot to say about the drama — from Rock's "joke" to Smith's slap. Scroll below to see how celebrities reacted to the incident: ![]() The Dropout star threw shade at both Smith and the Academy on Wednesday, March 30, when she posted a photo of the actor dancing with his award at the Vanity Fair Oscar party. "Also pretty certain the Academy didn't tell him to f--k off before his win," Seyfried claimed via her Instagram Story. Matt Baron/Shutterstock ![]() The Summer of Soul producer — who took home the Best Documentary Feature trophy alongside Questlove — slammed both Smith and Rock for overshadowing the exciting moment in a series of since-deleted tweets on Thursday. When the film was announced as the winner, the comedian said the award would go to "Questlove and four white guys," when in fact it went to the Roots frontman, Patel, Robert Fyvolent and David Dinerstein, only the latter two of whom are white. "The reason that makes me SO SO VERY ANGRY is because I was so proud to be one of a handful of South Asians to have ever won an Oscar in the history of the award," Patel wrote via Twitter, adding that he was also the third South Asian artist to win that night. "That's never happened before! And it's meaningful! It's history!" Though he acknowledged that Rock was in a stressful situation when he made the quip, Patel still shared his frustration with the entire incident, noting, "I'm angry. Angry at Will Smith. Angry at Chris Rock. Angry for me. Angry for Ahmir. Angry for my fellow filmmakers." Kristina Bumphrey/Shutterstock ![]() “When Will Smith stormed onto the Oscar stage to strike Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife’s short hair, he did a lot more damage than just to Rock’s face,” the NBA legend wrote via a Substack essay on Monday, March 28. “With a single petulant blow, he advocated violence, diminished women, insulted the entertainment industry, and perpetuated stereotypes about the Black community.” He continued: “I don’t want to see [Smith] punished or ostracized because of this one, albeit a big one, mistake. I just want this to be a cautionary tale for others not to romanticize or glorify bad behavior. And I want Smith to be the man who really protects others — by admitting the harm he’s done to others.” Stewart Cook/Shutterstock ![]() “He loves his wife. I do not condone violence against anyone,” the former Los Angeles Lakers athlete captioned a Tuesday, March 29, Instagram snap. “@willsmith loves @jadapinkettsmith. They touch somebody, they punch somebody, they slap somebody. You have the person removed,” the Real Housewives of New York City alum said on a Tuesday, March 29, episode of her “Just B” podcast. “You give them their award separately. It’s not like, ‘Oh, hey, I know you just smacked somebody presenting, but now we’re going to give you an award.’” Frankel continued: “It’s awkward at best. I did not see the whole show. But from what I understand, that’s what happened. I can’t overstate the fact that you just can’t touch another person. It’s a bad example for your kids. It’s a bad example for America.” John Salangsang/Shutterstock ![]() "Here's a picture of my dress at the show where we are apparently assaulting people on stage now," the Batman star captioned a red carpet photo via Instagram on Tuesday, March 29. Chelsea Lauren/Shutterstock ![]() The Home Improvement alum tweeted, "It's not ok to come up on stage and hit a dude cause you don't like the humor. John Salangsang/Shutterstock ![]() The Star Wars actor tweeted a photo of the smackdown, writing, "Stand-up comics are very adept at handling hecklers. Image Press Agency/NurPhoto/Shutterstock ![]() "America may be divided, but it was kind of nice for all of us to come together and say, 'holy crap' at the same time," the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon host quipped during his monologue one day after the awards show. Image Press Agency/NurPhoto/Shutterstock ![]() The U.K. native told Late Late Show With James Corden viewers that the "whole incident threw me off in a huge way" while discussing the ceremony on his show. "Also completely ruined my chances in the Oscar pool. I had Dame Judi Dench smacking Woody Harrelson," he teased, going on to praise Rock for "keeping the show moving." Magnus Sundholm/Shutterstock ![]() "Let me say something as an objective observer: It's never OK to punch a comedian," the writer said on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. "Will Smith was offended by the joke and wanted to stand up for his wife. Fine. Challenge Chris to a duel or, if you really want to hurt a comedian, don't laugh. That hurts way more than a punch, I promise you." Omar Vega/JanuaryImages/Shutterstock ![]() The former Saturday Night Live cast member joked that "the last thing" he'd expect at the Academy Awards "was a display of narcissism," adding, "The 94th Academy Awards were held last night and featured the first live performance of 'We Don't Talk About Bruno,' from the Disney musical Encanto, followed by an unbelievable live performance of 'We Don't Talk About Jada.'" John Salangsang/Shutterstock ![]() “I just sat down ’cause I was like, ‘I gotta put that drink down,'” the tennis star — whose father, Richard Williams, was depicted by Smith in King Richard — said via a since-deleted Instagram Story. Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock ![]() “I think Will was immature, I think he was childish and he was violent,” Sunny Hostin said on the show. Whoopi Goldberg, an Academy governor weighed in on the idea of the Academy taking away his Oscar. “There will be consequences I’m sure, but I don’t think that’s what they’re going to do, particularly because Chris said ‘Listen, I’m not pressing any charges,’” she said. Ana Navarro didn't mince words. "Hitting somebody is a crime, a crime of assault. While she called Rock's quip “a lame joke, a joke in very poor taste,” she believes the slap and the remark were “not equivalent.” Joy Behar discussed the impact on comedians. “They want us [comedians] to be edgy, to go out there and say what everyone’s thinking … and then they get mad.” Shutterstock (2) ![]() “There is only so much one can take… sometimes you have to slap back,” the actress, who portrayed Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, tweeted. “Celebrate the win… nothing else matters. "He walked up on stage and slapped him," Viall said at the 30th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday. "I think most people just wondered if it was like a bit or a joke, if it was fake. I think pretty quickly we realized it was serious." The ABC personality noted that the situation was "unfortunate" on several levels. "Chris Rock is there to be a comedian. He tells jokes, obviously, you know, there's always going to be some at the expense of people. ... Everyone has a right to feel though how they feel, and we have our hurt feelings, but how we handle our hurt feelings matters," Viall told Us. "I don't know if Will handled it the best. But his performance [in King Richard] was amazing. Congrats to him for winning the Oscar, certainly well-deserved in his performance. It just — I feel like it took away from his moment. I feel like more people are going to be talking about that than his award. And that's unfortunate for everyone." Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP/Shutterstock ![]() "I love Chris Rock. More Than a Work Wife! Blake Shelton Recalls Meeting Gwen on 'The Voice' Posted: 31 Mar 2022 11:39 AM PDT Opposites attract! Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton might seem as different as can be — but they make a perfect match. The musical duo met while working on The Voice in 2015 and quickly fell for each other in the wake of their divorces from Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert. After five years together, Shelton finally popped the question in October 2020. “Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!” the country crooner gushed via Instagram alongside a sweet PDA pic from his proposal. Stefani, for her part, teased that her answer was an obvious one. “Yes please! Two years earlier, the Oklahoma native revealed that his budding relationship with Stefani helped him get back from “rock bottom” after the end of his four-year marriage. “It’s a miracle that I met somebody that was going through the same exact thing that I was at the same exact moment in time,” Shelton told Willie Geist during a June 2018 episode of Sunday Today. “I think if Gwen and I were being honest right now talking about this, I think in the back of our minds, we both kind of thought this is a rebound deal. … But now here we are three years later, and every day that goes by just feels like a stronger bond between the two of us, and it constantly feels like it’s going to the next level.” Stefani split from Rossdale in August 2015, and the exes share three sons: Kingston, Zuma and Apollo. While the “Hollaback Girl” singer and Shelton hunkered down together amid the coronavirus pandemic, an insider told Us Weekly exclusively that Stefani’s kids have a soft spot for Shelton. “Those boys look up to Blake in a big way,” the source said in August 2020. “He’s earned their respect as a father figure. He’s gone from being their friend to being a serious parental influence.” Scroll down to take a look back at all of Stefani and Shelton’s sweetest moments together. ![]() Stefani and Shelton split from their respective spouses, Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert, within two weeks of each other in July and August 2015. It's hard to resist Gwen Stefani. You know, here's this iconic rock star coming to be a coach on The Voice in a black minivan. That was cool to me." Chris Pine Blames His New iPhone for Knowing 'Everything' About Kim and Pete Posted: 31 Mar 2022 11:25 AM PDT ![]() Can't stop keeping up! Ever since Chris Pine traded his faithful flip phone for an iPhone, he hasn't been able to get away from headlines about Kim Kardashian's romance with Pete Davidson. "I had a flip phone for four years [or] three years and then I just got an iPhone because I felt pummeled by how difficult being analog [was]," the Wonder Woman star, 41, admitted during a Wednesday, March 30, appearance on Josh Horowitz's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast. "It was very difficult, but having just gotten this crack machine, it's really bad." He continued: "These things are really, really, really bad. I may immediately go back to a flip phone. I don't know if I can handle it. I don't know if my soul can handle it." Pine revealed that he used to read "so many books" in his spare time — until his iPhone came into his life. "I was f—king murdering these books, just 15 books in, like, three months, and then [my iPhone] shows up and I could tell you everything about Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian," he joked. "[And] not a f—king thing about literature." While Horowitz attempted to point out that the Princess Diaries 2 actor now has access to the likes of Wordle, TikTok and plenty of other apps, he notably groaned. "F—k you," Pine jokingly said. "I just want to vomit. Ugh, I hate myself. Such self-loathing." The California native was an avid flip phone advocate before switching to his new smartphone. "I have a flip phone," Pine said during a May 2017 appearance on Good Morning America. "The flip world is a whole world you gotta get into. I'll tell you what, here we go: I recently got a record player and a flip phone. I kind of like the simplifying down. I just like the simple, I just like the non-complicated, I don't want to be connected so much." He quipped: "I don't know if you remember like T9? Like, you remember when you had to do that T9 thing, wow!" While Pine hasn't had much time to catch up on his reading list, he's the latest star to discuss learning about the latest relationship milestones between the Skims mogul, 41, and the Saturday Night Live star, 28. After the twosome were first linked in October 2021 following her SNL hosting debut, they confirmed their romance one month later. Davidson even got several tattoos — and branded her name on his chest — in his girlfriend's honor. "He has a few tattoos, a few cute ones that he got [for me]," Kardashian said during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this month. "I think my favorite one, it says [on his collarbone], 'My girl is a lawyer.' And that one's really cute." The mother of four — she shares North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2, with estranged husband Kanye West — continued: "That's what tattoo people do. They get tattoos of what's going on in my life, so I was like, 'Am I something special?’" |
