The socialite, rising cooking face, and 2000s "it" girl was chased by the paparazzi earlier this month as she joined singer Demi Lovato to splash the cash, and it was another head-turning look for Paris, who went super-leggy in a floaty and thigh-grazing minidress.

Her Priorities Have Shifted

Paris, whose appearances on reality series The Simple Life big-time painted her as a material girl, might still rock the Louis Vuitton, but the hotel heiress has been opening up on her priorities shifting.

"I always saw money as freedom and independence, and not being controlled," she told the Just for Variety podcast. "And I think that's why I just had that as my focus in life. And now that I am so incredibly happy and in love in my personal life I'm not really interested in billions anymore. I'm more interested in babies."

Admits Being 'Childlike'

The girl who drops "That's hot" comments and maintains a ditzy image is having the last laugh amid her rising empire - it's not just fragrances for the mogul.

"I'm sick of people using me. I'm just not going to have negative people in my life anymore. Worldcoin: Scan Your Eyes In Exchange For Cryptocurrency

The term cryptocurrency or crypto is used to describe decentralized digital currencies designed to be used over the internet.

At this point, most of the world is familiar with Bitcoin, which is the most popular cryptocurrency on the planet, but there are thousands of cryptocurrencies out there and new ones are being created every day.

A new cryptocurrency company called Worldcoin is now occupying the headlines of international media, largely because of its unique crypto distribution strategy.

So what is Worldcoin and how does its crypto work? Find out below.

What Is Worldcoin?

Worldcoin's main objective is to distribute cryptocurrency worldwide. This is neither new or unusual, but the way in which the company wants do achieve this goal is intriguing.

All those who want cryptocurrency need to do is have their eyes scanned by devices the company calls "orbs," according to Financial Times.

The orb -- a photograph of which can be seen below -- takes photos of an individual's eyeballs, creating a unique code that can be used to claim free digital tokens.

Hundreds of orbs will be released in the coming months, according to Worldcoin.

Privacy Concerns

According to Worldcoin co-founder Alex Blania, people have no reason to be concerned about the company invading their privacy.

"Even if I would have your iris code in one form or another, I would have no chance to find out who you actually are on the blockchain," Blania said, noting that the company aims to produce 4,000 orbs per month.

One hundred and thirty thousand people have already signed up for the project, according to Blania, while the team behind Worldcoin has raised $25m in venture capital.

Worldcoin Use

So how is Worldcoin meant to be used exactly?

Blania recently explained to CNBC that Worldcoin will feature a simple digital wallet that will let users make payments and store their crypto.

He said that Worldcoin wants developers to build apps on top of its systems -- apps "that we don't see today and that are really hard to build today because very few people hold crypto."

"You see this in Facebook. As soon as you suddenly have a billion people and everyday people holding something like that and using something like that, you as an entrepreneur can build completely new things," he said.

Some Aren't Convinced

Privacy advocates are not convinced, and believe Worldcoin's authentication method -- eyeball scanning -- is far from safe, as reported by Slate.

Cindy Cohn, the executive director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, noted that "biometric identifiers are extremely dangerous, they can't be revoked, they can't be reissued."

According to Cohn, "the idea that [biometric information] would go to one company and never go anywhere else really ought to be laughed off the face of any presentation about any of these kinds of identifiers."

Scott Peterson Denied Bail

Scott Peterson, who murdered his wife Laci Peterson and their unborn son in 2002, spent the last 15 years on San Quentin's death row awaiting death by lethal injection.

But the California Supreme Court overturned his death penalty sentence last year, while the prosecutors decided they no longer want to seek his execution.

In December, the 48-year-old will be re-sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Peterson's former lawyer, meanwhile, still claims the murderer is innocent.

Below is the latest update on the case.

Appellate Attorneys

A judge denied Petersen bail on Wednesday, so he will remain behind bars until the December hearing.

Prosecutors welcomed the decision, but they also made a special request.

As The New York Post reported, prosecutors on Wednesday argued that the killer's appellate attorneys -- who, by law, only handle death penalty cases -- should not be able to represent him because he is no longer facing death.

But what were the prosecutors' arguments and what did the other side say? Find out below.

David Harris

Stanislaus County Assistant District Attorney David Harris said that "now we have them saying even in cases where we don't have jurisdiction, because we want to stay, the court should not inquire whether we should stay on these cases or not."

"And I think that's more of a bad precedent than the court looking at this in the first place to determine what the court gets to do and what their jurisdiction is," Harris continued.

"They are capital habeas litigators, but they want to stay on a non-capital case," he added.

Peterson will be transferred to the San Mateo County courthouse on December 8 for re-sentencing.

Habeas Corpus Resource Center

Lower court judges do not have the right to determine if Peterson's attorneys should withdraw from the case, said Michael J. Hersek, executive director of the Habeas Corpus Resource Center, which has represented Peterson.

"In our mind, withdrawing from the case after a partial victory, does two things," Hersek began.

"Number one, it would abandon Mr. Peterson in this case, which would not be fair to him. Number two, it would send a terrible message in all of our other cases because we spend years developing relationships with our clients," he stated.

Peterson Is Innocent, Former Lawyer Claims

Lara Yeretsian, who represented Peterson back in 2005, maintains that he is innocent.

Yeretsian told Fox News that new evidence proving her former client's innocence has emerged, though she declined to provide details about it.

"There is new evidence that Scott's not the one. It will show who the true suspects are," Yeretsian claimed.

"I really believe in Scott's innocence based on the evidence I had seen during the first trial. I truly don't believe he got a fair trial because of all the publicity and all of the emotions and visceral reactions of him having an affair," she said.

Jamie Lee Curtis & Transgender Daughter Ruby Open Up In Candid Interview

Jamie Lee Curtis is speaking up about supporting her transgender daughter Ruby. Less than three months after announcing to the world that her youngest child was a trans woman, the duo sat down for a candid interview with People in which they opened up about Ruby's journey and what it has meant for their family.

The Halloween star, 62, spoke from the heart, admitting she and her husband, 73-year-old comedy director Christopher Guest, "still slip up" occasionally as she detailed the struggles and rewards of their family's experience.

Curtis, who paid a sweet tribute to Ruby, 25, on Instagram after the interview was published on October 20, also revealed what was the hardest change for her as a parent.

Jamie Lee Curtis: 'I Still Slip Up'

While Curtis' daughter first came out as transgender to her parents a year ago, this is the first time that the family has talked publicly about her journey. Ever the supportive mother, the Hollywood star goes out of her way to be there for her children, even though it's not always smooth sailing.

"It's speaking a new language. It's learning new terminology and words," Curtis told People, confessing she was still learning and describing herself as "a grateful student."

The actress, who has added her preferred pronouns on Instagram, explained how she's become more thoughtful over time, saying: "You slow your speech down a little. You become a little more mindful about what you're saying, how you're saying it."

She candidly added: "You still mess up; I've messed up today twice. We're human."

She's Determined To Put In The Work

Although Curtis, pictured above with her husband, is determined to put in the work for Ruby, she doesn't paint herself as the perfect parent of a trans child.

"I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it," the Freaky Friday actress got real about her shortcomings. "And I'm going to blow it, I'm going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes."

"But if one person reads this, sees a picture of Ruby and me and says, 'I feel free to say this is who I am,' then it's worth it."

The Hardest Change

According to Curtis, pictured above with her two children in an old photo, the hardest challenge for her as a parent was integrating her daughter's new name.

"That was, of course, the hardest thing. Just the regularity of the word. The name that you'd given a child. That you've been saying their whole life. And so, of course, at first that was the challenge. Then the pronoun. My husband and I still slip occasionally," she opened up.

However, it seems she's doing a much better job at it than she gives herself credit, based on her surprised reaction at Ruby mentioning "her dead name," Tom, during the interview.

"It so doesn't fit anymore," Curtis said.

Proud Mom

Although Ruby doesn't mind it when her mom and dad get the pronouns wrong -- "I don't get mad at them for that," she told People -- the computer gaming editor confessed she was intimidated to come out to her parents as trans.

"It was scary — just the sheer fact of telling them something about me they didn't know. It was intimidating — but I wasn't worried. They had been so accepting of me my entire life."

The 25-year-old underlines that her coming out had nothing to do with her parent's celebrity status, adding that she had had an honest conversation about it with her fiancé years ago. The couple is set to wed next year, with Curtis officiating the ceremony.

"I've tried to stay out of the spotlight for many years, or at least done my best to," Ruby said, adding: "I'm happy to be more visible if it helps others."

Likewise, Curtis hopes their family's experience will help other people. Speaking to AARP magazine in July, the actress said that she and her husband "have watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter Ruby."

She reiterated the feeling on Instagram on Wednesday in a sweet tribute to her daughter.

"Ruby I am proud to be your mother. Today more than ever."

As a testament to Ruby's character, Curtis also shared a quote from her daughter's interview with People, which read: "Helping others is something everyone should do. I don't think it's only our household thing. It should be a human thing."

Curtis and Guest have an older daughter, Annie, 34, who is married and a dance instructor. The celebrity couple doesn't have any grandkids yet, but Curtis is hoping that will change soon.

Michigan Worker Dies After Being Sucked Into Wood Chipper

A worker in West Bloomfield, Michigan was fatally injured Tuesday in an incident involving a wood chipper.

The man -- whose name has not been disclosed -- was working in a crew of three people on Champlain Circle near Middlebelt and Lone Pine roads around 9 a.m. that day, when a part of his body got stuck in the chipper, according to police.

The tragic incident shook up the community, with many wondering how it took place and questioning safety practices at the man's workplace.

Disturbing 911 Call

West Bloomfield Police Department Deputy Chief Curt Lawson told Fox 9 Detroit that one of the man's co-workers called 911 after the incident took place.

"(We received a 911 call) from an individual that said his co-worker had been found inside of a wood chipper. They were able to provide first aid to the individual who was, at the time, conscious," Lawson explained.

Paramedics reacted quickly, transporting the severely injured worker to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he died en route, according to Lawson.

Investigations

Two probes have been opened into the tragic case: both the police and officials from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating what led up to the tragic incident.

According to Lawson, "every indication at this point is that his jacket may have been caught on a branch that was being fed into the wood chipper."

It remains unclear if the equipment the worker was using somehow malfunctioned.

"We've taken an extensive amount of pictures of the equipment to make sure it was operating the way it should have been operating. We've interviewed everyone who was at the scene," Lawson said.

Tragedy

Police won't release the name of the company the man worked for, but they have revealed that he was working at a private home when the incident took place.

Lawson said that the tragedy was difficult even for the officers who were on the scene.

"It's something you can't prepare yourself for and those officers you know we have a peer support program here. We have individuals for them to talk to. And we also debrief that incident because we have to make sure our officers' mental health is a priority for us," Lawson said.

"Our hearts go out to the workers on the scene and of course the victim's family," he added.

Occupational Safety

The coronavirus pandemic has highlighted workplace safety issues not just in Michigan, but across the United States.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said this week that it would be moving to strip Arizona, South Carolina and Utah of their authority to regulate workplace safety, as reported by The New York Times.

According to the OSHA, these three states have simply refused to follow federal rules when it comes to coronavirus-related safety measures.

Acting OSHA Jim Frederick said that "their continued refusal is a failure to maintain their state plan commitment to thousands of workers in their state."

Human Remains Found In Florida Park Are Probably Brian Laundrie's, Family Lawyer Says

Twenty-three-year old Florida native Brian Laundrie and his girlfriend Gabby Petito went on a cross country trip in July, but only Laundrie returned home -- in his girlfriend's Ford Transit van.

Petito's body was found near Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park last month and, according to a coroner, she died of strangulation.

Laundrie vanished a couple of days after Petito was declared missing and the authorities have not been able to locate him since. But yesterday, they found suspected human remains and items belonging to Laundrie at the Carlton reserve in Sarasota County, Florida.

Here's the latest update.

Human Remains

The remains search parties found yesterday are most probably Brian Laundrie's, according to Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino.

Speaking with CNN's Chris Cuomo on Wednesday evening, Bertolino said that "the probability is strong that it is Brian's remains."

"It's quite sad, you can imagine as a parent, finding your son's belongings alongside some remains," Bertolino said.

"That's got to be heartbreaking. And I can tell you that they are heartbroken," he added.

Laundrie's parents, Chris and Roberta, were on the scene when the remains were found.

'Happenstance'

The fact that Chris and Roberta were there when the remains were found is just "happenstance," according to Bertolino, who noted that law enforcement accompanied them when they entered the park.

"As they went further in, Chris ventured off the trail into the woods. He was zigzagging in different areas, law enforcement was doing the same thing. And Roberta Laundrie was walking down the trail," Bertolino explained.

"At some point, Chris locates what's called a dry bag. The dry bag is a white bag, laying in the woods, say 20 feet or so off the trail," he said.

The Bag

Bertolino said that Chris did not want to move the bag, but he wasn't able to find law enforcement, so he picket it up.

"He did meet up shortly with law enforcement, they looked at the contents of the bag. At that time, law enforcement officers showed him a picture on the phone of a backpack that law enforcement had located also nearby and also some distance off the trail," the lawyer said, adding that the Laundries then left the scene.

"At that point, the Laundries were notified there was also remains near the backpack, and they were asked to leave the preserve," he explained.

FBI To Stay On Scene

Michael McPherson, special agent in charge of the FBI's Tampa division, told Fox News that an FBI team will most likely stay on scene "for several days."

"These items were found in an area that, up until recently, had been underwater. Our evidence response team is on scene using all available forensic resources to process the area," McPherson said.

He also identified Laundrie as "a person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito," which is significant and suggests that Laundrie is now suspected of homicide.
