I have a new *Survivor* strategy. And not to brag or anything, but I think it's actually pretty dang good. My new fool-proof plan came to me while watching **'s latest exclusive deleted scene from *Survivor 49.*

In the secret scene from this week's episode (which can be watched above), cameras are following the Uli tribe… who somehow manage to star in *all* our exclusive scenes this season. (Take that Hina and Kele!) It's day six of the game. There's nothing to do but simply chill and discuss all the immaculate vibes while coming up with new lingo to make Nate Moore supremely uncomfortable.

But, you know, even though they had an immunity challenge just yesterday and there is *absolutely no way on planet Earth* that there could be anything today, the Ulis decide to go check Tree Mail anyway — just for the heck of it.

"Yesterday we had a challenge," Shannon Fairweather explains. "So today, we are expecting to lay low. Maybe use that fishing kit, you know, lay out, rest, hydrate, take care of ourselves. But you know, 'Hey, let's make sure we check Tree Mail just in case.'"

You know what happens next without even seeing the clip. The tribe opens Tree Mail to see a lonely scroll just sitting there — a scroll informing the group of the day's upcoming immunity challenge. Says the message: "Well balanced tribes flourish. The chaotic teeter on the brink. Win and you sleep soundly. Lose, you wind up in the drink."

The Ulis then attempt to decipher the clues while also reacting to the surprising news. "Going into this challenge, I think my tribe has a little bit of nerves," Jawan Pitts tells us in a confessional interview. "I think there's a little bit of anxiety just because this is not what we expected, but I do think that there is a steady confidence. We've come in second place two times in a row. What's to say we can't do it again?"

Of course, second place is exactly where the Uli tribe would end up… again. That means they once again avoided a date with Jeff Probst at Tribal Council. Bravo! And I suppose with the Kele tribe hanging around, there was no real credible threat that Uli would actually lose.

But this little scene got me thinking: Why not just fully guarantee your safety by never checking your Tree Mail to begin with? You can't lose if you can't play! And you can't compete in a challenge if you don't know the challenge even exists. Avoid that news like you are a celebrity with a phalanx of security guards ducking a subpoena.

Now the savvier reality TV viewer will say, "C'mon, now. At some point, a producer on the beach is going to make the tribe go retrieve their Tree Mail. And if the tribe refuses to comply, they're simply going to make them get on the boat." To which *I* say… why are you no fun?

I'm sticking with the ignorance is bliss defense! In the meantime, go check out the scene for yourself to see how the Uli tribe reacts to this unexpected development.
