"I think she's proud," says Becky in an interview at the publication's celebratory gala
Selena Gomez paid tribute to the "Por el Contrario" singer for the issue
Young Becky G would be proud of where she is today.
The "Por el Contrario" singer was named one of the world's most influential rising stars in the 2025 TIME100 Next issue. In an interview with PEOPLE during a gala celebrating the featured stars on Thursday, Oct. 30, Becky opens up about what her childhood self would think of the accomplishment.
"You know what's so crazy?" asks Becky, 28, at Chelsea Piers in New York City. "Little Becky only ever dreamt this big."

"She knew," continues the Latin Grammy winner. "But in that sense, I'd also say Big Becky has a lot of other dreams that she's creating right now."
Ultimately, "I think she's proud," says Becky, born Rebbeca Marie Gomez. "We're, like, fist-bumping right now."
In the TIME100 Next issue, Selena Gomez paid tribute to the "Shower" hitmaker with an essay.
"Becky G has never let the world define her. She has always defined herself with her powerful presence," wrote the Only Murders in the Building superstar, 33. "Through the years, I have watched her excel not only as an artist but also as a woman, an advocate, and a voice for our community."
Gomez highlighted Becky's 2024 album Encuentros, praising how the project "revealed the depth of her artistry" by combining her Mexican-American background with "a beautiful, modern sound" as well as "emotional storytelling."
"She has a rare gift for bridging cultures and making everyone around her feel seen," wrote the Rare Beauty founder.
Gomez also praised Becky's openness about her experiences "as a proud granddaughter of immigrants," adding, "Whether she is being open regarding her own mental-health struggles, equity for marginalized communities, or representation in music, nothing she does is performative."
The tribute concluded, "The world needs more energy like my friend Becky's."

Following the release of Encuentros, Becky pulled back the curtain on her life and career with a documentary, Rebbeca, which premiered at Tribeca Festival earlier this year.
On Thursday, Oct. 30, Deadline revealed Rebbeca will hit theaters for two days on Dec. 10 and Dec. 13. "This film isn't about perfection," said Becky in a statement to the outlet.
"It's about becoming. Rebbeca was filmed in a moment of personal transition, when the questions were still louder than the answers," she added. "It's raw, it's real, and it's healing."
