After Taylor Swift wore a vintage Monterey Bay Aquarium otter T-shirt, the California aquarium reissued the item for Swifties and otter lovers through a fundraiser

The effort has brought in over $2.2 million in donations for sea otter care and conservation

The fundraiser met its goal of $1.3 million in just 7 hours

A California aquarium received a massive boost in donations — thanks to Taylor Swift's outfit choice.

The singer, 35, wore a 1990s-era otter T-shirt from California's Monterey Bay Aquarium while filming The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, and the vintage shirt made an appearance during the final cut.According to KSBW, shortly after the premiere of The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, the Monterey Bay Aquarium noticed an uptick in donations — specifically in $13 increments, Swift's favorite number — and interest in its retired otter shirt. To honor Swift's new Life of a Showgirl album and her sartorial support for the aquarium, the Monterey Bay Aquarium reissued the vintage otter T-shirt design through a fundraiser started with the aim of reaching $1.3 million — another play Swift'st's lucky number

"We're saying thank you to all the eagle-eyed fans out there with a re-release of our vintage Monterey Bay Aquarium sea otter t-shirt. We tracked down the original artwork—first printed in the 1990s—and are bringing it back, sustainably," the aquarium wrote on the fundraiser, adding "For a limited time we're running a special campaign to support our Sea Otter Program and other critical ocean conservation work."

The fundraiser spread quickly, reaching its $1.3 million goal just 7 hours after launching on Oct. 16, according to Monterey Bay Aquarium. As of Friday, Oct. 17, the fundraiser has far surpassed its goal with over $2.2 million raised.

Swifties (or otter fans, or both) can still obtain one of the limited-edition otter tees through the fundraiser with a donation of $65.13 or higher — another nod to Swift's lucky number 13 — though the arrival of the shirt, now backordered, will be delayed due to demand.

The T-shirt features two otters, paddling side by side on their backs in the water. In little information boxes, otter "stats" and primary food sources are listed, along with an aesthetic piece of kelp (in which otters often wrap themselves while eating or resting). The vintage design is rounded out with the sea otter's scientific name printed near the top.

To re-issue the design, the Monterey Bay Aquarium collaborated with Liberty Graphics (which has ties to the original producer, Harborside Designs) to use PVC-free, water-based ink on 100% cotton — a sustainable composition to minimize pollution, per the site.

The original shirt was sturdy enough to survive over 30 years, making it an "anti-fast-fashion statement," the aquarium added.
