Robert Irwin shared health news about his pug, Stella, revealing that she has cancer
The Dancing with the Stars contestant said it has been "stressful" to be away from her while he competes on the show
He also shared that it has been an "emotional week" in rehearsals
Robert Irwin is sharing difficult news about his beloved pug, Stella.
The conservationist and current Dancing with the Stars contestant, 21, posted an update on Stella's health on Instagram on Oct. 12. "This is a tough one," he wrote. "I wanted to give an unfortunate update on my sweet little pup, Stella. A mass was discovered that ended up being cancerous."
He continued, saying he is optimistic that she will make a recovery. "We still don't know the full extent of the cancer," he shared, noting that he is away from her while he competes on DWTS in L.A. and she remains in Australia. "I have faith she'll be in the clear. She is such an important part of our little fam, so it's been stressful to say the least being away from home and away from her while she goes through this."
He concluded, "I know you guys love seeing her and I love sharing her with you so wanted to give an update… she is doing ok post-surgery so far, she's my little bestie & one tough cookie."

Many of Irwin's fellow DWTS castmates commented on the post with wishes of support. "I'm so sorry. Praying she makes a full recovery 🤍" Whitney Leavitt wrote, while pro Alan Bersten shared a similar sentiment: "Poor little baby. Praying she makes a full recovery."
Irwin's mom Teri and sister Bindi also weighed in. "She's such a strong and beautiful little soul. ❤️" wrote Bindi, 27, while his mom wrote, "Every day is another day of healing. She is a determined little soul!💕"

Teri Irwin, 61, is set to join her son in the ballroom on Oct. 14 for tribute week. "It has been an emotional week in rehearsals," he shared on Oct. 13. "I've been thinking a lot about my mum and her strength, I've been reminiscing on the times we've spent as a family and how she has kept my dad part of my life. This dance is for my mum, it's for anyone who's lost someone… and it's for all the strong mothers of the world who deserve our recognition and appreciation ❤️"
