Jesse Plemons jokes he "can't compete" with his wife Kirsten Dunst's kid movies

The Bugonia star noted that Dunst has appeared in classics such as Jumanji and Small Soldiers

Jesse Plemons might be an accomplished actor, but his kids seem to prefer his wife's movies — at least, for now.

The Bugonia star, 37, appeared on a Monday, Oct. 20 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers and spoke about his two sons – Ennis, 7, and James, 4 — whom he shares with his actress wife Kirsten Dunst, 43. As Meyers told Plemons that he and his wife weren't doing many kid-friendly movies these days, the comedian joked that he'd forgotten the actor appeared in the 2002 movie Like Mike.

"I mean, she's done some in the past. You've done a little in the past," Meyers said of Plemons and Dunst appearing in children's films. "You were in, and I admit I did not remember that you were in Like Mike."

"You didn't remember that?" Plemons asked.

"I didn't remember that. I owe you. As your friend, I owe you a great apology," said Meyers.

Meyers went on to ask Plemons if his kids had been excited to see their dad star in a children's film.

"I don't know, Kirsten put it on when I wasn't home, which I appreciated. I think mildly excited," responded Plemons.

"But not at the level you want them," Meyers said.

"No. And I can't compete with her kid movies," joked Plemons. "You know, she has Jumanji and the list goes on. Small Soldiers they liked."

Meyers noted that the last time Dunst was on his show, she'd explained that her sons weren't big fans of her Spider-Man films. He expressed his surprise at their kids not loving the movies, saying that he thought they'd be a "huge deal."

"It's weird, James, our youngest, he's obsessed with Spider-Man," said Plemons. "Like, there was a time when he kind of stayed in character, deep in character as Spider-Man all day, just webbing everyone. But yeah, kind of didn't seem that impressed that it was younger Mommy."

"That's so funny if you're like, 'Kirsten, are your kids excited you're in Spider-Man?' 'No.' Well, they're probably not into Spider-Man. 'Actually…'" joked Meyers.

"No, they really are!" said Plemons. "They're kind of like superfans, which makes this all the worse," added Meyers.
