The Japanese Netflix series first debuted in 2020, adapting Haro Aso's manga series about a parallel version of Tokyo where a series of games — represented by a suit in a deck of playing cards — unfold with life-or-death stakes for the players.
With Shinsuke Sato behind the camera, the sci-fi thriller has proven to be a massive hit for Netflix. Following season 2's premiere in December 2022, *Alice in Borderland* landed among the streamer's Top 10 series in more than 90 countries, amassing 200 million viewing hours worldwide.
It's been nearly three years since the show's sophomore season, and two years since Netflix announced that season 3 was in the works. Fans are frothing for new episodes, which are just around the corner.

*Alice in Borderland* season 2 ends on what feels like a definitive note, with heroes Arisu (Kento Yamazaki) and Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya) overcoming the game master Mira (Riisa Naka), a.k.a the Queen of Hearts, despite her attempts to psychologically manhandle Arisu into thinking he's hallucinating.
What saves Arisu is an act of self-harm from Usagi, which brings him out of Mira's mirage and back into the reality of the Borderland. Mira wins the game, but Arisu's refusal to quit saves his life. Thus, all of the Face Cards are defeated, leading Mira to be zapped to oblivion.

The players are then given a choice to either stay in Borderland or return to the real world. Nearly everyone chooses to return to the world they knew.
The season 2 finale goes on to reveal that a meteorite crashed into the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, causing mass destruction and sending those who didn't instantly die in the explosion to the Borderland.
Arisu awakens in a hospital with the other survivors, but they don't remember each other. Still, when he and Usagi cross paths at a vending machine, something draws them together.
In the closing moments, we're shown a table stacked with playing cards. A gust of wind blows them away, but one remains: the Joker.

It turns out that Joker card is important to the next chapter of *Alice in Borderland*.
Season 3 will begin with Arisu and Usagi happily married, despite having mostly lost their memories of the Borderland. They do, however, see glimpses of it in their dreams.
But then Usagi is abducted by a mysterious scholar obsessed with the afterlife, and Arisu must return to the Borderland to save her. "Teaming up with new players, they must face the yet-unseen 'Joker' stage in a desperate bid to find a way back to their original world," reads the official synopsis.
Speaking with Netflix, Yamazaki teased that Arisu and Usagi are placed on different teams for this new batch of deadly games. "Since Arisu and Usagi are split into separate teams, I found it interesting to see the different atmospheres and character dynamics within each group," he said. "Over the seasons, the characters have become so beloved by fans, and I think that's why the audience can really empathize with them during the life-or-death moments." **
Is there an Alice in Borderland season 3 trailer?
Yes, the official trailer for *Alice in Borderland* season 3 arrived on Aug. 26, 2025, teasing several of the season's new games, as well as Arisu's unconventional path back into the Borderland. Spoiler: This time he won't need a meteorite.**
"The final card — will it bring despair or hope?" the trailer asks.
The characters are clearly hoping for the latter. "Any wound can become a reason to live," we're told against scene after scene of carnage.**

Yamazaki and Tsuchiya will return as Arisu and Usagi, but they're not the only players headed back to the Borderland.
As you might expect, Hayato Isomura's Sunato Banda and Katsuya Maiguma's Oki Yaba, the only characters who chose to stay in the Borderland at the end of season 2, will appear in season 3.
Also returning? Ayaka Miyoshi's Rizuna Ann, who is instrumental in helping Arisu return to the Borderland, as seen in the trailer.**
