The 77th Emmys are shaping up to be a battle royale between Apple TV+ and HBO/HBO Max, with *The Pitt* and *Severance* going for top prizes in the drama categories, and new comedy *The Studio* looking to take home the top prize from last year's winner, *Hacks*. And in a few categories, it's a toss-up between two, if not more nominees (we're looking at you, supporting comedy actresses!).
On the latest episode of *The Awardist* podcast, EW critic Kristen Baldwin and Sr. Editor (and self-described "awards nerd") Joyce Eng offer their final predictions for which shows and actors they think *will* and *should* win — and there are some against-the-norm picks.
For limited series, everyone agrees: *Adolescence* will be the winner for the top prize, as well as Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty in the supporting actor categories. While Kristen is going with *The Penguin*'s Colin Farrell to win lead limited series actor, Joyce is going with *Adolescence* star and co-creator Stephen Graham.

"I think [the Television Academy is] going to go full *Adolescence*," Joyce says. But she agrees with Kristen that Farrell *should* win — not just for his performance and the 10 hours spent putting on prosthetics each day, but because, as Kristen points out, "the man gives a good speech."
Will Farrell's *Penguin* costar Cristin Milioti take home her first Emmy, or will *Dying for Sex* star Michelle Williams score her second statuette? "I think Cristin will win, but I think Michelle should win," Kristen says, but Joyce thinks Williams is *Dying for Sex*'s best — and only — shot at a win.
In the drama categories, Joyce thinks *The White Lotus* will come up completely empty-handed. Who, then, wins in the supporting actor and actress categories? Rather than Carrie Coon, Aimee Lou Wood, Parker Posey, or Natasha Rothwell, Joyce thinks *The Pitt*'s Katherine LaNasa will win supporting actress, but Kristen is giving the edge to Coon, "simply because I think all it takes for Emmy voters is one strong monologue, which I believe is all she really had in that season." Kristen thinks, though, that Wood should take home the prize.
2025 Emmy winner predictions: Outstanding Drama, Comedy, and Limited Series

2025 Emmy winner predictions: Who will win in the main acting categories

For supporting drama actor, Joyce is giving the edge to *Severance* star Tramell Tillman — who has scenes both "funny and affecting," she says — and would be the first Black actor to ever win in the category. Kristen, meanwhile, is "physically incapable of saying anyone else *should* win over Walton [Goggins for The White Lotus], so I think Walton should win, I think Walton will win." That said, she's ready to celebrate a win by Tillman as well.

In the lead categories, Kristen is going with *Matlock* star Kathy Bates, the favorite in the category. Joyce, though, is going against the grain — swayed by the fact that Bates is the CBS show's lone nomination — and going with The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey.
"I don't have a lot of arguments *for* them. It's more that I don't know who to go with and I feel like everyone has a lot of cons," Joyce admits. "Even though season 2 was less well-received, it was all about Ellie, so there's more prominence on her this season. And if they're not feeling any of these other nominees, why not go with something familiar?"
For lead drama actor, they both agree: *The Pitt* star Noah Wyle. "As much as Severance has so many nominations and is clearly a favorite of the academy, performance-wise, I don't know that I see a stronger male dramatic performance," Kristen says. "That doesn't mean that Adam Scott didn't give a great one too.... But [*The Pitt*] is really a show that, once people caught on to it, they were bowled over by it and everything about it. And he is the heart of that show."
As for the top award, Kristen and Joyce expect the envelope to reveal *The Pitt* as the winner.
"Severance is a show that I think is great, it was a very good season... but *Severance* is a show that you often appreciate more than you get emotionally engaged in, where *The Pitt* is one that grabs hold of your heart and smushes it for 15 hours straight," Kristen explains, admitting she's prepared to be wrong depsite *The Pitt*'s "visceral, emotional momentum."

And *Severance* fans: Joyce has heard your cries. But she won't be swayed. "*Severance* stans are going to attack us. They've been so mad at me from the beginning," she says, laughing.
In the comedy field, we find one of the hardest categories to predict: supporting actress. Will last year's winner, Liza Colón-Zayas (*The Bear*), repeat? Will Hannah Einbinder (*Hacks*) or Janelle James (*Abbott Elementary*) pick up their first win? Or will Catherine O'Hara (*The Studio*) steal their thunder?
"I've had Liza since nominations. I would be surprised if Liza wins it again just because of the state of the field and how in flux it is," Joyce says. "I really want Hannah Einbinder to win, but I fear that she may never win. So I feel like I might go with Catherine O'Hara."
Kristen admits her choice changes "hour by hour." "I definitely feel like Hannah should win all the time, but I'm starting to feel that Catherine O'Hara — who obviously is great but I don't feel like had a ton to do in *The Studio*, so I'm not really loving that but I also feel like if anyone can take it from Hannah, it will be her."

As for supporting actor, look for Harrison Ford to take home his first Emmy for his first-ever nomination for *Shrinking*. Though, Kristen warns, "Is *The Studio* going to eek in there with Ike Barinholtz?"
Joyce is teetering between those two. "I was feeling better about Harrison before *The Studio*'s nine wins [at the Creative Arts Emmys]," she says, noting that *The Studio* may not win all of its acting nominations, considering Zoë Kravitz lost guest comedy actress to *Hacks*' Julianne Nicholson.
Speaking of, for lead comedy actress, it's no contest: Jean Smart will, without question, win her fourth Emmy in a row for her stellar work on *Hacks*. "She's never going to lose for this," Joyce says. Adds Kristen: "She's freaking great!"
And for lead comedy actor, look for Seth Rogen to score one of what could be four wins on Sunday for *The Studio*, where he also nominated for writing, directing, and producing.
Kristen, however, thinks *Shrinking*'s Jason Segel should. "He was very funny, but he also had some very emotional moments," she says. "The ensemble continues to get stronger and stronger, and I love hanging out with these people. And he is the centerpiece."
But Joyce's pick for who she thinks should win is 2025 SAG winner Martin Short, for *Only Murders in the Building*. "The funniest person alive, hilarious on the show... he is absolutely the best part of the show." It's the one-liners, it's the physical comedy — it's really the full package. Looking at all five of these [nominees], if you're looking at a comedic performance, it's his."

And for the top category, the momentum is in favor of *The Studio*, but both think *Hacks* should repeat win for its fourth season. "They go about it with a greater depth and nuance. Just watch [the episode titled] 'A Slippery Slope,' that whole monologue by Jean," Joyce says.
"I think they need to bring some emotional complexity to these characters," Kristen critiques of The Studio. "It's almost cartoonish. It's very madcap, Kathryn Hahn is over the top. So I think if they can take a step back and make these people feel like real people a little bit more than they do now...but for those reasons, it's why I feel *Hacks* [should win], because it has the laugh-out-loud, really incredible comedy moments, but these are all people who feel real and are drawn with a lot more complexity."
