Bryan Cranston is remembering the first time he tried mushrooms with his *Studio* costars. **
While visiting* Jimmy Kimmel Live!* on Wednesday, the actor expand that he'd never actually tried mushrooms prior to starring as a character who ingests a large dose of them on the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ series. **
"I'm playing this character who is wiped out and I had never had any experience in that," Cranston told Jimmy Kimmel. "Not that many drugs at all, as a matter of fact, and so I didn't know really how to behave. So I was asking [*The Studio* co-creator] Seth Rogen and [costar] Ike Barinholtz, 'You guys are huge druggies! What can you tell me?'"

The pair told him that the best way to start out is by microdosing. "I said, 'I don't even know what that is. What is that?' Well, it's a microdose, you know?" Cranston said. "And I said, 'Well, what would the effects be?' And he said, 'Well, try some!' And I go, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa, hang on.'" **
He was also aware that an unexpected opportunity had suddenly opened up for him. "We were in Las Vegas shooting this crazy show with Seth Rogen and we all decided to go to the Sphere to see the Grateful Dead," he said of the rock band whose former members are now part of Dead & Company. "If God wasn't telling me to do microdosing, what was he telling me?!" **
Still, he had his reservations. Cranston said that he and costar Catherine O'Hara were both "clutching each other" and going back and forth on whether or not they'd actually try it. **
"We were nervous. And Ike Barinholtz was our drug dealer. Can I say that?" Cranston paused to ask Kimmel. "I think I can. And he said, 'I'll take care of you.' And I said, 'I've heard that before!'"

However, he felt comforted by the fact that Barinholtz swore that the experience wasn't "gonna be anything" that they couldn't handle. "So he gave us these little thin square chocolates — you know what it is. Some people know," he said. "And this little square chocolate, I go, 'It's a piece of chocolate? It's like a wafer!'" **
He continued, "And so I broke it in half, I took it… nothing. I didn't feel anything."

Ingesting the second half of the chocolate didn't change much for him either. "It felt like maybe I took three sips of wine," he said. "It was nothing! Nothing!" **
When Kimmel asked if the microdose surprised him and kicked in later, Cranston replied, "No! Now I'm angry." **
Kimmel was impressed by the revelation. "So you really are a great actor, it turns out," he said, "because that [performance on *The Studio*] was all acting." ****Cranston responded, "It was acting. I didn't know what I was doing." **
Well, whatever he was doing, it certainly worked. On Saturday, Cranston won the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his faux-high performance on *The Studio* at the Creative Arts Emmys, beating out Jon Bernthal for *The Bear* and fellow *Studio* guest stars Martin Scorsese, Dave Franco, Anthony Mackie, and Ron Howard. It was one of nine awards *The Studio* won that night.**
