Sarah Jessica Parker has stepped into Carrie Bradshaw's shoes as needed throughout the years.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the actress, 60, says she has utilized clothing items from her And Just Like That... and Sex and the City character's iconic fashion archive in real life.

"I just did it," Parker says with a laugh. "I was invited to a birthday party in England, and we were already nearby, so I pulled from the archive."

"It's one of the few occasions I've ever pulled from the archive for personal use," she further explains, adding, "It's not every day."

Parker says she is "very thoughtful" overall when it comes to those moments when she raids Bradshaw's closet. She said she will ask herself: "What would the circumstances and the environment be that I would be wearing this, and would it be okay and safe, or would it be destroyed? I'm very judicious about that."

Throughout all of the Sex and the City-based projects, fashion has played a large role for Parker, as well as the characters of each of her main costars — Kristin Davis (Charlotte York), Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones) and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes).

The projects, which are based on Candace Bushnell's newspaper column and 1996 book anthology of the same name, follow the group of friends as they navigate all of life's ups and downs as women throughout various stages of their lives.

In the December 2021 issue of Vogue, Parker spoke about the archive, explaining, "I had all of the original stuff in my own storage. Furniture, clothes, everything, packed according to season and episode and scene. I kept every single solitary thing."

Speaking with Evan Ross Katz during a Q&A hosted by Threads at il Buco al Mare in Amagansett, N.Y., on Aug. 11, the mother of three shared her thoughts on one day creating a fashion archive that fans can visit.

"People have inquired about an exhibit, and we've done little, smaller condensed versions of that, but I do think if someone has an interest in a time that seems appropriate, yeah, I think it would be [great]," Parker said.

"If it's the right place that can do right by what it meant, that it's really about [designers] Molly [Rogers], Danny [Santiago] and Patricia [Field], and maybe it's a bigger conversation that includes something else from cinema too — that's about costumes and stories and women on film, and what was and wasn't allowed — because that I think is quite a big part of the conversation too," she continued.

All seasons of And Just Like That... and Sex and the City are available to stream on HBO Max.
