Hello? Is it an exorcist you're looking for? Because that's what Lionel Richie was for Kelly Clarkson during his recent visit to her studio.

In a preview clip for Thursday's episode of *The Kelly Clarkson Show, *Clarkson and Richie can be seen bonding over their grief before the "Dancing on the Ceiling" singer rises and attempts to perform a cleanse on the host. **

"I do think a lot of people deal with grief in such a different way, but I love that you say, 'Grief is the great teacher of what matters most,'" Clarkson told Richie during their interview. "And I think, no matter how you deal with grief, it is very different [for] everyone. But I do find that very, very true. How did you figure that out?"

Richie then explained that grief is a feeling one can never properly prepare for when it comes around. **

"It's a real moment where you can't phone it in, but at the same time we rehearse things. You can't rehearse grief. You can't rehearse the loss of your mother, or your father, or your friend," Richie said. "And so what I've found is that when I get involved with … 'uncontrollable grief,' I let go. And I — believe it or not — I look forward to finding out who I'm gonna be, really, because that's the real me."

Clarkson added that grief can also serve as a "release" during a particularly rough period.

"If it hurts so badly, that means you loved so deeply. Hang on, you know what I mean?" Richie said, prompting Clarkson to lean back into her chair and marvel at him.

"Aww, [bleep]... like, come on!" she said.

Seeing that his comments moved Clarkson, Richie shot up, closed his eyes, and placed his hand to her forehead as if to purify her of her grief. "But I can save you, don't worry," he promised.**

In response, Clarkson burst into laughter and threw her hands in the air, as if she were absolved of her grief.

"I feel healed," she said.

The musicians' conversation comes less than two months after Clarkson's ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, died of cancer at 48. The couple, who went their separate ways in 2022, share two children: daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander. **

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a representative for the family told ** in a statement at the time. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

After postponing multiple dates of her Las Vegas residency due to Blackstock's illness, Clarkson has returned to the stage. She has also resumed filming season 7 of her daytime talk show and serving as a judge on *The Voice*.

*The Kelly Clarkson Show* airs weekdays on syndication. Watch Richie and Clarkson bond over their grief in the preview clip above.
