A contestant on The Great British Baking Show recreated the dessert at the center of the series' infamous "Bingate" incident from 2014

11 years ago, baker Iain Watters' threw out his melted baked Alaska in the dramatic moment

Judge Paul Hollywood, who was on the show for "Bingate," joked that he didn't like Watters' flavor choices that the current contestant replicated

More than a decade after "Bingate," Paul Hollywood wants to put the dramatic incident to rest.

On the latest episode of Netflix's The Great British Baking Show (called The Great British Back Off in the U.K.), a current baker paid homage to a former contestant's infamous conclusion.

During collection 13 episode 7, which was released in the U.S. on Friday, Oct. 17, software engineer Iain Ross took inspiration from series 5's Iain Watters.

Back in 2014, Watters was involved in one of the baking show's most dramatic moments: "Bingate." During the fourth episode of his season, Watters' baked Alaska melted after another contestant had accidentally removed it from a freezer, leading him to throw the dessert in the trash. He brought the bin up to the judges at the time, Hollywood and Mary Berry, but was eliminated because they couldn't taste the sweet.

Flash-forward to modern day, when Ross presented his meringue show-stopper challenge.

"I want to cast your minds back about a decade ago, There was another fella called Iain from Belfast on Bake Off. His baked Alaska didn't go too well, and he served it in a bin," the 29-year-old explained. "So, seeing as I'm the other Iain from Belfast, this is gonna be a bin with the same flavors that he did his baked Alaska with."

Ross' "Bingate Redemption" vacherin glacé featured espresso sorbet, dark chocolate ice cream, sesame praline and vanilla chantilly cream, served inside a meringue shaped like a trash can.

Judges Hollywood and Prue Leith were excited by the idea and even more amused when the dessert was placed in front of them for testing.

"I love the design but I don't like the coffee and I don't like the chocolate," Hollywood said after joking that this was the "second time a bin's been put towards us." "I would question the flavor combination."

"Those were originally Iain's flavors," Ross quipped, causing the judges and hosts to crack up. "I'm not trying to pass the buck."

"So, I'll turn around and go," Hollywood joked, pivoting to the camera as if talking to Watters. "Iain, I really didn't like it, mate. I'm so sorry."

The bit made the tent erupt in laughter and Hollywood, back to Ross, concluded, "I'm happy that you've put 'Bingate' to bed."
