In case you need a reminder that stars are just like us, Gloria Estefan revealed the surprisingly relatable reason that she turned down the chance to perform in the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.
The Latin-pop legend stopped by Sherri Shepherd's daytime talk show, *Sherri*, on Monday, and revealed that she was invited to join the two stars onstage for what would have been her third time performing at the major football game.
"Jay-Z had asked me to join Shakira and JLo when they were there, it would have been my third time," Estefan said. "First of all, they're already dividing up that time and it's really quick. It's like you're in and out. And secondly, I was going to have to diet during Christmas, and I really didn't want that. I did not."

As the audience laughed, Estefan continued to explain why she didn't jump at the chance to join the two women during their buzzy collab performance.
"You know what? It's their moment," Estefan said. "Everybody has their moment. I had my moments, it all went well. I don't want to push my luck. The two times went great."
When Shepherd asked if Estefan would consider joining Bad Bunny onstage during his 2026 Super Bowl halftime show, she repeated that "it's his moment." She thought Karol G would make a better guest for his halftime show.

"I think he's killing it this year," she said, adding that she's "so happy" to see the Puerto Rican singer's success as a global icon.
"It's great," Estefan said. "We need Latino representation. And the Latinos have burned up that show [during the Super Bowl]. I've done it twice. First time in Minneapolis, it was freezing. I was shaking everything. They pulled me up in the air and I was afraid of heights at that time... I was dying. It was like 100 feet in the air, it felt like I was on the moon."

Estefan performed the Super Bowl halftime show in 1992 and 1999. For her first time, she closed out the "Winter Magic" celebration by singing her hit songs including "Get On Your Feet" and "Live For Loving You" while 1992 Winter Olympic athletes joined her on the stage.
Seven years later, Estefan returned to perform alongside Stevie Wonder, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Savion Glover for "A Celebration of Soul, Salsa, and Swing."

On Sunday, Bad Bunny announced that he will headline the 2026 Apple Music Super Bowl LX halftime show.
"What I'm feeling goes beyond myself," Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, said in a statement. "It's for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown... this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el halftime show del Super Bowl."
Bad Bunny's upcoming performance marks the seventh year that Jay-Z's Roc Nation will program the show. In 2019, the NFL entered into a partnership with the rapper and his Roc Nation group to "enhance the NFL's live game experiences and to amplify the league's social justice efforts." The partnership is working out, as the multi-year contract was extended in 2024.
The 2026 Super Bowl halftime show will take place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, the home field of the San Francisco 49ers, on Feb. 8, 2026.
