- *9-1-1 , *an action-packed drama about first responders, is gearing up for its ninth season.
- Connie Britton and Peter Krause are among the main cast members who've left the series.
- Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, and Aisha Hinds are the only original stars remaining on the show.
Since *9-1-1 *premiered in 2018, the action-packed drama has put its ensemble of first responders through fires, floods, and bee-nados in their efforts to keep a catastrophe-prone Los Angeles from caving in on itself.
As the series evolved, it found a new home on ABC but said goodbye to several fan-favorite characters. While stars like Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, and Kenneth Choi continue to report for duty, others, including Connie Britton and Peter Krause, have moved on.
With season 9 igniting, here's a look at the original *9-1-1 *cast members who've left the show and what they've been up to since.

*Friday Night Lights* and *American Horror Story *alum Connie Britton starred on the first season of *9-1-1 *as dispatcher Abby Clark. Following her mother's death in the penultimate episode, Abby leaves L.A. for Ireland.
According to co-creator Ryan Murphy, Britton only signed a one-year deal. "Connie had just come off *Nashville*, and she didn't want to do another show right away," he told *Deadline*. "I said, 'Well, why don't you just do a one year deal,' so Connie has a one-year deal, and we all knew that going in."

Despite her early exit, Britton reprised the role for the two-part season 3 finale, and the door remains open for her return. "We worked on that first season and we're now in our 8th season of that show," Bassett told PEOPLE in February 2025. "It's always like, Connie, open door, whenever you want to come back."
Since *9-1-1*, Britton has stayed quite busy. In between her starring roles on the first season of*The White Lotus* (2021) and the Netflix thriller *Zero Day *(2025), Britton starred in movies like *Bombshell *(2019), *Promising Young Woman* (2021), and *The Life List* (2025).

Rockmond Dunbar played Michael Grant, Athena's ex-husband and father of their kids, in the first five seasons of *9-1-1*. Throughout his journey, Dunbar's Michael came out as gay, fell in love with neurosurgeon David Hale (La Monde Byrd), and moved to Haiti.
Despite Michael's heartfelt exit, Dunbar's departure was a tumultuous one. In November 2021, ** reported that Dunbar had been let go from the show for failing to comply with COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
"I applied for religious and medical accommodations pursuant to the law and unfortunately was denied by my employer," he said in a statement following his release. "My sincerely held beliefs and private medical history are very intimate and personal aspects of my life that I do not publicly discuss and have no desire to start now."**
He later sued Disney and 20th Television, claiming racial discrimination and denial of medical and religious exemptions. His case will go to trial in October 2025.
In the years since, Dunbar has appeared on the Paramount+ series *The Game *(2021–2022) and Peacock's *Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist* (2024).
He played the tough Chief Wilson in Tyler Perry's Netflix film *Straw *(2025), and will next appear in RZA's upcoming *One Spoon of Chocolate*, which premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.
Marcanthonee Reis as Harry Grant (seasons 1–6)

For the first five seasons of *9-1-1*, Marcanthonee Reis played Athena and Michael's son, Harry Grant. His final appearance was in season 5's "Outside Looking In," when Harry chooses to move to Florida to live with his father.
When the character returned in season 7, it was with a new actor, Elijah M. Cooper, playing the role.
Speaking with TVLine in April 2024, showrunner Tim Minear shared that Reis "was sort of ready to move on" from *9-1-1*. "I reached out to Marcanthonee, who hadn't been around for a minute, and I pitched him this story," Minear said. "I think he loved the story, but was just ready to do something new."
Reis hasn't taken on any new screen roles since leaving *9-1-1.* Before joining the show, he worked with Murphy on *Glee *(2011) and also appeared in Bong Joon Ho's *Snowpiercer *(2013) and an episode of *Grey's Anatomy *(2017).
Peter Krause as Bobby Nash (seasons 1–8)

Peter Krause led *9-1-1* for its first eight seasons as Bobby Nash, the steadfast captain of Station 118. After his battle with addiction accidentally led to the death of his wife and children, Bobby moved to L.A. There, he met and fell in love with Athena, and the two were married until his shocking death in season 8's "Lab Rats."
Minear revealed in an April 2025 interview with EW that Bobby's death was driven purely by "creative reasons," not by Krause's choice to leave *9-1-1*.
"The decision about who to do it to, that was the hard one," he added. "But I just felt like, 'If I'm going to do this, I need to do it in such a way that it will have the maximum effect for every character story.' And so it's Bobby, right? I mean, that's going to affect everybody."
He continued, "It also made sense for me in terms of it not being an arbitrary death. In a way, it is the tragic, logical culmination of his arc. He came to L.A. with a death wish, and then he learned to love life again. And then when he finally has to make the sacrifice, it's not because he wants to go, it's because it's the thing he has to do. It is true redemption. So everything about it lined up."
Krause addressed his exit in a statement via *The Hollywood Reporter*: "It was more than a bold creative choice on a bold show. Bobby Nash was written in sacrifice and he was built for this. First responders risk their lives on the job so that others can see another day. His story arc honors them."
John Harlan Kim as Albert Han (season 3–6)

John Harlan Kim joined *9-1-1 *in season 3 as Albert Han, the younger half-brother of Choi's Chimney. Albert became a key part of the show over the next two seasons before quitting his job as a firefighter in the season 5 finale and returning home to Seoul.
He made a brief comeback in season 6, appearing in two episodes that saw him help Chimney mend his relationship with their father.
The reason for Kim's departure remains a bit of a mystery, though it may have been tied to his schedule. In a September 2021 chat with TV Insider, Minear suggested that Albert's reduced presence was due to Kim's work on the CW's *Nancy Drew* (2021–2022).
Since his time on *9-1-1*, Kim has gone on to appear on the Apple TV+ series *The Last Thing He Told Me* (2023) and Amazon Prime's *Cruel Intentions* (2024). He's also set to star alongside Henry Cavill and Sterling K. Brown in the upcoming live-action film adaptation of *Voltron*.
