A residence in Florida fell victim to a "boarglary" after a wild boar crashed into the home through sliding doors, leaving a trail of shattered glass in the process.

Bodycam footage from the Sept. 4 incident shows the aftermath of the "boarglary" at the home in Lehigh Acres, located in the Fort Myers area, as deputies attempt to corral the "hog-wild" suspect before eventually chasing it out of the home.

"That's a big, mean, feral animal," a female resident of the home can be heard saying in the video released by the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

"It's like a 300-pound sow," a deputy can be heard saying in a radio transmission as the wild hog stood in the living room.

A sheriff in Florida warned residents about a "boarglary" in Lehigh Acres after a wild boar broke into a resident's house on Thursday, September 4.

As the deputy observed the broken glass door of the home, the hog, chased by a second deputy, charged out of the home.

Attempts to reason with the boar, as well as lassoing it, meanwhile, were unsuccessful.

"Easy, easy," the deputy outside the home said as the hog charged toward him and appeared to attempt to bite him.

The pig did not stop, but instead made several more passes, each time charging at the deputies, eventually forcing them to chase it into the woods.

"We were able to remove the boar from the home, sending him snout and about where he belongs - the woods," the sheriff's office said on social media. No injuries were reported, sheriff's office spokesperson Todd Olmer told USA TODAY.

While not native to Florida, wild hogs, also called feral hogs, feral swine, feral pigs, wild boar, wild pigs or piney woods rooter, live in all 67 Florida counties, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife (FWC). They are found in a wide variety of habitats but prefer oak-cabbage palm hammocks, freshwater marshes and sloughs, pine flatwoods, and more open agricultural areas.

Wild hogs can reach weights of more than 150 pounds and measure 5 to 6 feet long, feeding on plants and animals by rooting with their broad snouts. They may disturb the soil and ground cover vegetation, and leave the area looking like it has been plowed.

Feral hogs can also carry diseases, such as pseudorabies, a contagious infectious disease that is fatal for dogs, as well as swine brucellosis, a bacterial infection.

Wild hogs may be trapped and hunted year-round with landowner permission, according to FWC.

How to keep wild hogs away from your home

To avoid conflict with wild hogs, the FWC recommends the following:

Electric fencing can keep hogs out of small yards and gardens. Place an electric fence on your property with at least two strands that total 2-3 feet in height.

Hog panel fencing between 24 and 32 inches tall is effective but may be costly to install and maintain.

Motion-activated lights or alarms are typically unsuccessful but can provide temporary results.
