So you're all done with your fantasy football drafts and you put one over on your league mates because you didn't draft a kicker.

Smart move! You picked up an extra skill player and waited until the first waiver wire run to decide which one you don't need. Hopefully, you found a diamond in the rough (Ollie Gordon, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Keenan Allen or Tyler Warren) and now you have to field a full lineup for Week 1.

It's time to fill that kicker spot.

With only a few exceptions on the high and low ends, kickers are pretty much interchangeable. So here's how to make the position work for you.

Choose a kicker with a late bye week

Only two kickers have finished in the top 10 in fantasy points each of the past two seasons: the Cowboys' Brandon Aubrey and the Chargers' Cameron Dicker.

If you didn't get either one in your draft, you're probably better off streaming kickers over the course of the season -- at least until you can find one who's consistently getting the job done.

If you don't want to spend a waiver pick early in the season -- and concentrate on finding breakout running backs and wide receivers -- then a kicker with a late bye week can fill that position until you have a better lay of the land. (A good offense is a bonus.)

Picking Week 10 as an arbitrary cutoff point, here are some potential options:

Matt Gay, Commanders (Week 12)

Evan McPherson, Bengals (Week 10)

Jason Sanders, Dolphins (Week 12)

Jake Moody, 49ers (Week 14)

Commanders kicker Matt Gay made 28 of 30 field goal attempts last season with a long of 58.Kickers at home in a dome

Looking down the road to the fantasy playoffs, you certainly don't want your kicker battling the elements. Beyond the top three kickers in terms of ADP (Aubrey, Dicker, Jake Bates -- all of whom play home games with a roof), here are some others who kick indoors:

Ka'imi Fairbairn, Texans (Week 6 bye)

Younghoe Koo, Falcons (Week 5)

Will Reichard, Vikings (Week 6)

Daniel Carlson, Raiders (Week 8)

Joshua Karty, Rams (Week 8)

Some fantasy managers will already have secured one of those indoor kickers in the draft. As a result, bad-weather kickers may have been overlooked and can be scooped up for free while the weather is still mild. (You can always pivot to an indoor kicker later when your current one goes on bye.)

Tyler Bass, Bills (Week 7)

Jake Elliott, Eagles (Week 9)

Tyler Loop, Ravens (Week 7)

Brandon McManus, Packers (Week 5)

You can certainly get an advantage by rostering one of the NFL's top kickers. But we rarely know who they'll be at the beginning of the season. Aubrey and Dicker seem to be the only ones worth a speculative pick.

For the most part, kickers are wildly inconsistent in their fantasy scoring from year to year. That's why most fantasy managers wait until the last round to draft one -- if they do at all.

Hopefully, we've given you enough options if you need to pick one up off the waiver wire before the season starts.
