Taylor Swift is "welcome at any time" to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said on "Today" on Wednesday.

"We would always love to have Taylor play," Goodell said. "She is a special, special talent and obviously, she would be welcome at any time."

Asked whether a performance is already in the works, Goodell teased, "Maybe," and deferred to Jay-Z's Roc Nation, which oversees the halftime show.

Reps for Swift and Roc Nation did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment.

The announcement is likely to come soon: Last year's — which was headlined by Kendrick Lamar, with special guest SZA — came on Sept. 8, although previous years were announced later in the month.

In an exchange with the show's hosts, Goodell said, "We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent, and obviously she would be welcome at any time.'

"Is it in the works?" Savannah Guthrie asked.

"I can't tell you anything about it," Goodell replied.

"Is it a maybe?" Guthrie pressed.

"It's a maybe," he said.

Asked when the announcement might be made, Goodell replied, "I'm waiting on my friend Jay-Z," he joked. "It's in his hands. I'm waiting for the smoke to come out."

Swift's name has been mentioned as a possible halftime headliner for many years, but her recent engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — and the pair's appearance days earlier on Kelce and his brother's "New Heights" podcast that was effectively a "meet the family" dinner for the world — would seem to make her performance more timely. The heavily favored Chiefs lost the 2025 Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles in a surprise finish, 40-25.

Roc Nation has overseen the Super Bowl Halftime Show since the 2020 game, and every year has featured minorities as headliners, a role that previously was held almost entirely by white artists. The 2020 show feature Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, 2021 was the Weeknd, 2022 was an all-star hip-hop lineup of Dr. Dre leading Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar with special guests 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak; 2023 was Rihanna; 2024 featured Usher; and this year's show featured Lamar and SZA delivering a preview of their stadium tours of North America and Europe later in the year.
