Ryan Williams had a phenomenal freshman season for Alabama football.

The then-17 year old announced his presence as a superstar in college football despite being the same age as most high school seniors against Georgia, in a 41-34 Alabama win.

Williams finished with six receptions for 177 yards and a touchdown in the victory over the Bulldogs. At the time, Alabama climbed to No. 1 in the Coaches and AP polls, putting the program on the fast track in Kalen DeBoer's first season taking over for Nick Saban.

Behind a strong start from Williams and quarterback Jalen Milroe, Alabama jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and a 30-7 halftime lead. Williams had three receptions for 36 yards on four targets for the Crimson Tide in the first half.

Williams exploded in the second half, catching two passes for 62 yards, including a 54-yard reception that set up a 28-yard field goal by Graham Nicholson to push the Alabama lead to 33-15 with 1:26 left in the third quarter.

Through three quarters, Williams had five catches for 102 yards, already proving to be one of the best receivers in college football as a true freshman.

However, he did his biggest damage in the fourth quarter.

With Alabama leading 33-15, the game looked over for most. However, Georgia was not done, as the Bulldogs stormed back to 19 straight points to take a 34-33 lead with 2:31 left in the game on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Carson Beck to Dillon Bell.

That's when Williams responded with potentially the biggest play of the 2024 college football season at that point.

On the first play of the ensuing drive, Milroe fired a back-shoulder throw to Williams, who adjusted in the air to come down with the reception near the sideline.

Williams already seemed to be near field goal range after turning upfield, but made a spin move to make both Georgia defensive backs ― KJ Bolden (4) and Julian Humphrey (12) ― miss an open field tackle. From there, Williams won the foot race to get in the endzone and complete the 75-yard go-ahead touchdown.

Milroe connected with Germie Bernard to give Alabama a 41-34 lead after the 2-point conversion, with Zabien Brown intercepting Beck in the end zone to clinch the Alabama win.

Williams finished his freshman season with 48 grabs for 865 yards and eight touchdowns, and 177 yards is still a career high to date.
