The "Vampire Diaries" star and Olympic snowboarder got together in 2019.

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White are reportedly calling it quits.

The *Vampire Diaries* alum, 36, and Olympic snowboarder, 39, have ended their relationship after five years together, an unnamed source confirmed to PEOPLE.

"It was a mutual decision, and wasn't an easy one," the source stated. "But it was made with love and a deep respect for one another."

Representatives for Dobrev and White did not immediately respond to **'s request for comment.

The actress and the athlete last appeared on one another's social media pages in July, and were last photographed together on Aug. 31 while running errands in Los Angeles. But some eagle-eyed fans have noticed that on Sep. 7, Dobrev walked the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her new movie *Eternity* without her 5-carat diamond engagement ring.

White and Dobrev first sparked dating rumors in 2020, when they were spotted riding bikes together in Malibu. They went Instagram official that May— courtesy of Dobrev giving White a quarantine haircut. They eventually shared that their relationship began in 2019, and led the couple to move in together at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

From that point on, the couple was not shy about being together in the public eye. They were often photographed hand in hand, accompanied one another at red carpet events, and offered glimpses into their personal life on social media. When Dobrev suffered a scary dirt bike accident in 2024, her health updates frequently included White offering support and easing her pain with laughter.

Then came October 2024, which saw Dobrev and White celebrate a major relationship milestone, announcing their engagement on Instagram.

"RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé," Dobrev wrote in her post, alongside a snap of White sweeping her off her feet. Over on his own page, White shared a photo of himself down on one knee and wrote, "She said YES."

They also recounted the big day to *Vogue*, sharing that the proposal was a long time coming and involved White concocting an elaborate scheme. The Olympian shared that he enlisted Dobrev's publicist to send her a fake invitation to a cocktail hour with Anna Wintour. But instead of arriving at an intimate evening with the fashion icon, Dobrev entered a restaurant to find White in a candlelit room full of white roses.

"I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him," Dobrev recalled, adding that she wasn't so far gone that she missed his proposal speech: "He said all the right things."**
