The New York Jets may be without one of their starters on the offensive line for some time to begin the season.
According to multiple reports, Jets right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a "potentially serious injury" that could require surgery. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that it's an arm injury for Vera-Tucker and that he is seeking a second opinion before undergoing a procedure.
The Jets recently named Vera-Tucker one of their captains for the 2025 season in head coach Aaron Glenn's first season with the team. This year is also the final year on Vera-Tucker's rookie contract as he plays out his fifth-year option for New York.
Gang Green begins its season hosting former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, then welcomes reigning MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Pro Football Focus recently graded out the Steelers' and Bills' defensive lines as top-five units in the NFL.
With that being the case, the Jets may be in trouble if Vera-Tucker misses significant time, as has been projected.

The Jets have not yet revealed the full nature of Vera-Tucker's injury, though ESPN reported that it is an arm injury for the offensive guard.
Multiple reports suggested that Vera-Tucker could miss significant time, especially if he needs a potential surgical procedure.

Here's how the offensive line looks according to the team's latest unofficial depth chart:
Left tackle: Olu Fashanu, Max Mitchell, Esa Pole
Left guard: John Simpson, Xavier Newman
Center: Joe Tippmann, Josh Myers
Right guard: Alijah Vera-Tucker, Xavier Newman
Right tackle: Armand Membou, Chukwuma Okorafor
As things currently stand, the Jets only list one player, Newman, as depth at the guard positions. He's entering his second full season with New York after he initially signed with the Jets' practice squad in October 2023.
Of the other depth options the Jets currently have rostered, Mitchell is the only tackle with some experience stepping in to play guard in emergency duties.
Membou, a rookie, was a player some scouts projected as being able to play either guard or tackle when he reached the NFL. The Jets could consider kicking him inside to fill in for Vera-Tucker and move Mitchell, a swing tackle, to the right side. However, that could risk hampering Membou's development if the team prefers him playing tackle, as they have indicated so far.
