Freshman Florida State linebacker Ethan Pritchard is in critical, but stable condition in the intensive care unit after sustaining a gunshot wound on Sunday night in Havana, Florida. He was in Havana visiting family, approximately 17 miles from Tallahassee, and is in a nearby hospital.
"The Pritchard family is thankful for the support from so many people, as well as the care from first responders and medical professionals, and asks that their privacy be respected at this time. Further updates will be provided as they are available," said a statement released by Florida State on Monday.
Pritchard was shot while inside a vehicle outside apartments in Havana just before 10 p.m., according to the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, via the . An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office told reporters that Pritchard was found wounded inside a vehicle, according to Tallahassee's WCTV.
"Officers did arrive [and] were able to get him out of the vehicle, and EMS arrived where they transported him to a local hospital," said Captain Anglie Holmes.
The freshman linebacker, 6-foot-2 and 224 pounds, committed to Florida State with the recruiting class of 2023 out of Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida. He drew interest from Miami, UCF and Florida as a recruit. Pritchard did not play in the Seminoles' season-opening 31-14 win over Alabama.
