The Philadelphia Eagles were in on the great bidding war for edge rusher Micah Parsons. But the Dallas Cowboys refused to make a deal with their division rival before shipping Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday morning that the Eagles "made a strong play" to trade for Parsons amid his ongoing contract negotiation issues with the Cowboys over the summer.
Ultimately, Dallas decided against making such a move, which would have kept their star defensive player within the division and given the reigning Super Bowl champions another key piece to add to their roster. The Cowboys also play the Eagles Thursday night to open the season, which would have given Parsons an immediate opportunity to play his "revenge" game against his former team.

MICAH PARSONS TRADE: Why did the Cowboys do it? Jerry Jones quotes, contract details
Had the Eagles added Parsons, they would have essentially added their lone missing piece on defense: a pass-rusher capable of consistently recording double-digit-sack seasons. Philadelphia led the NFL in total defense in 2024 and allowed the second fewest points, but they did it without having a player record more than eight sacks.
It also would have been an ironic twist of fate for all parties involved. Part of the reason Parsons ended up with the Cowboys in the first place was because of a draft night trade Dallas made with the Eagles four years ago.
In 2021, the Cowboys owned the No. 10 overall pick. Right behind them were the New York Giants at pick 11, then the Eagles at No. 12 after a trade back.
Dallas agreed to trade back two spots, letting the Eagles swoop in ahead of the Giants to draft wide receiver DeVonta Smith. New York, which desperately needed a receiver in that year's draft, cut its losses by trading back nine spots and letting the Chicago Bears move up to draft quarterback Justin Fields.
The Cowboys drafted Parsons with the No. 12 overall pick, and the rest is history.
DAK PRESCOTT: Micah Parsons trade solved 'headache and distraction'
Instead of returning to Pennsylvania – Parsons grew up in state capital Harrisburg and played his collegiate career at Penn State – the four-time Pro Bowler ended up in Green Bay last week. The Packers immediately signed Parsons to a four-year, $188 million contract extension that will keep him in Titletown through the 2029 season.
The Cowboys received two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark in return.
Parsons will make his return to Dallas when the Cowboys host the Packers in the Week 4 edition of "Sunday Night Football" on Sept. 28.
Meanwhile, the Eagles will have to do without Parsons as they begin their title defense in 2025 hosting the Cowboys Thursday night.
