Bobby Berk revealed that he and husband Dewey Do have chosen not to have kids in an interview with PEOPLE at the One House Toast to the Emmys event in Los Angeles on Sept. 11

"We have decided it's not for us," Berk said

Bobby Berk is opening up about why he and husband Dewey Do have decided not to start a family.

Chatting exclusively with PEOPLE at the One House Toast to the Emmys event in Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 11, the Queer Eye alum, 44, revealed that he and Do, a surgeon, don't plan to have kids.

"We have decided it's not for us," Berk says, explaining, "I mean, in this day and age — and this is not to knock anybody's decision to have or not have kids — but for me, I would just have a hard time bringing any child into the world right now."

He also acknowledged that his busy career is a factor.

"I just don't have enough time to devote [to parenting]," he says.

Instead, the couple is content to spoil their dog, Bimini, a mini Labradoodle whom Berk first introduced on his Instagram in 2021.

"Bimini is very spoiled," the interior designer tells PEOPLE, sharing that Do, who is "a very good cook," likes to whip up tasty treats for their pup.

"He cooks for her, and it's usually bison or rack of lamb with sweet potatoes and peas and carrots. No processed food for her," he shares, quickly clarifying, "It's not plated. She's not that bougie."

As for married life with Do, Berk — who is set to host the new HGTV series Junk or Jackpot? — says it's "great."

"I mean, 22 years, still going well," he says.

The couple began dating in 2004 after meeting online, and tied the knot in 2012. Last year, they celebrated their milestone 20th anniversary — but Berk later told PEOPLE that he and Do take a low-key approach to such occasions.

"[He] and I have never really been like anniversary people or birthday people," he said in a September 2024 interview. "It's funny, we used to always laugh that neither of us knew it was our anniversary until Facebook would tell us."

He said they don't typically remember holidays because they "love to celebrate each other every day."

"You know, we love to just take a little weekend trip here and there," Berk explained. "We did just go to Ireland, and actually, around our anniversary, we were in Asia. So, yeah, I wouldn't say there was one specific thing we did for our anniversary, but we've always been the type of people [who] celebrate each other every day."

When asked what has surprised him the most over the couple's 21-year relationship, Berk joked at the time that it's the fact that Do "has stayed with me this long."
