Firefighters in Napa County, California, have been working around the clock for days to contain a wildfire that continues to grow. The Pickett Fire, as it is known, grew to about 10 square miles by Sunday evening.
Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit and other agencies have now deployed more than 1,000 emergency personnel to the scene, with hand crews, dozers, engines, water tenders and helicopters putting in an aggressive effort to suppress the blaze. As of the most recent update, the wildfire is 11% contained.
Some 500 buildings are threatened by the fire in the towns of Aetna Springs and Pope Valley, located about 80 miles north of San Francisco.

Heat has played a major role in the blaze and the safety of firefighter crews.
Though the fire has burned in the relatively remote hills of Napa County, new evacuation orders and warnings continue to be issued for the surrounding area. Several nearby vineyards are reportedly threatened by the growing blaze.
Five years ago, Napa and Sonoma counties were hit with devastating wildfires that leveled hundreds of homes and destroyed millions of dollars of wine and grape crops from vineyards.
According to the latest update from Cal Fire, "Incident command is leveraging the experience of firefighters who fought the 2020 Glass Fire in this same area to guide suppression efforts and safely control the fire."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
