Tom Brady was retired for 40 days. He claimed he wasn't eager to make a 100% commitment to football and that he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Then, right in the middle of one of the craziest offseasons in NFL history and in the most shocking fashion, the seven-time Super Bowl champion announced he was coming back to handle some 'unfinished business.'

Michael Irvin Says Brady Didn't Know What He Was Getting Into

For some, however, Brady's comeback wasn't as surprising. That includes Cowboys legend Michael Irvin, who recently said Brady had no idea what he was getting into when he retired:

"I tell people all the time, you’re at the top of the mountain when you’re Tom Brady in the NFL. You’re at the top of the mountain. You’ve won seven. You got more rings, you’re the boss where you go then you decide 'I think I’m gonna retire' And you go home and you have this idea in your head. Per Irvin, him not being 'the boss' at home and being unable to relax what was drove Brady back to the gridiron after just one month in retirement:

I just want to sit here and relax.’ ‘No, I need you to do this. Can you get this done?’ And then you say, ‘Woah. Wait a minute. People were surprised by Brady's decision because he was coming off one of the best seasons of his career, regardless of his age. That's why Irvin says he didn't have to leave the game as most NFL players do:

Rarely do you get to retire because loss of will. Two things in the NFL: there’s a skill and a will. And he gets home, and he’s noticed he’s even more diminished in his will because he’s been in total control, the wife is running the house, and now he says I’m back on the football field," Irvin concluded.

While everybody expected Seiya Suzuki to become a star in Chicago, not even the most optimistic Cubs fans thought he'd hit the ground running the way he did.

The Japanese star has showcased his entire skillset since day one, getting on base in 10 straight games with a nine-game hitting streak and showing his ability to rake baseballs like the best of them.

Suzuki's Making Cubs History Already

The Japanese rookie didn't need much time to enter the club's history books, putting together a couple of historic marks in his first week+ in the Majors:

"Suzuki's nine-game hitting streak is the longest for a Cubs batter to start a Major League career since Andy Pafko's nine-game run for the ballclub in 1943," reported Jordan Bastian of MLB.com "Suzuki joins Art Williams (1902), Hal Jeffcoat ('48) and Tony Taylor ('58) as the only Cubs since 1901 to have a 10-game on-base streak (without a reached-on-error) to begin a career."Kyle Hendricks Is Impressed By Suzuki

Suzuki claims he hasn't really dug into analytics or data. He's just a natural hitter. That, according to Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks, is what makes him so impressive:

You don't know quite where to go and then he puts swings on balls in every area of the zone. He covers everything. Ian Happ has also been in awe of Suzuki's ability to dominate despite not being much of an analytics guy:

Suzuki has been better than advertised thus far, and that's a scary sight for the rest of the league.

Tom Brady's first retirement is nothing more than a footnote right now. A funny story, another reason why people love him so much.

He spent a grand total of 40 days away from the game of football before finally announcing that he was too in love with it to just let it go.

Brady Felt Like He Could Still Play

Brady was coming off an MVP-caliber season and played better than most QBs in the NFL. That's why he knew he could still contribute to his team and wasn't going to be a distraction if he came back:

"I knew my body, physically, could still do what it could do and obviously I have a love for the game, I think I'll always have a love for the game," Brady told ESPN. "I do think physically I'll be able to do it. I just felt like there was still a place for me on the field."He Missed The Competition

But more than that, Brady's competitive spirit couldn't allow him to sit on his couch and watch his rivals play. He knew he could still beat them:

MLB News: Trevor Bauer Could Try And Join The Dodgers This Weekend

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Trevor Bauer to one of the most lucrative deals in recent MLB history. However, the former Cy Young winner was barely able to be on the mound for them.

He's been on administrative leave since mid-last season due to an alleged sexual misconduct investigation. And while he was cleared of all charges, the league recently decided to extend his paid leave until April 22nd.

Bauer Is Still On Administrative Leave

Per the Los Angeles Times, the players' union and MLB reached a written agreement, which the league considers to be binding.

That means he won't be able to play until the leave expires. However, Bauer is reportedly digging deeper into the matter to determine whether there was, in fact, a binding agreement in place.

He Could Challenge MLB

Bauer could then look to defy the league by stating that his latest extension is not binding. That would force the league to either suspend him, allow the Dodgers to enforce their own discipline, or let him show up at Dodger Stadium next Sunday:

"If Bauer does take the position that the most recent extension to his leave is not binding, Commissioner Rob Manfred might have to levy a suspension by the end of the day Saturday or risk Bauer showing up at Dodger Stadium on Sunday," reported Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.Will The Dodgers Allow Him To Pitch?

Then, there's another issue. The Dodgers could simply choose to part ways with him if they feel like having him around could be a distraction or poor PR. However, they have yet to take a public stance on the situation:

"Upon the completion of any suspension, or upon a decision not to suspend him, the Dodgers then would choose whether to reinstate him," Shaikin added. "They could cut him and pay him the balance of his $102-million contract, or cut him and fight an almost certain grievance if they try to void his contract and argue he should not be paid because of personal conduct language in the contract. For years, Jacob deGrom has been a treat to watch. When healthy, the New York Mets' lefty has been the biggest show on baseball, a dominant hurler who can top 100 MPH and make a fool of even the best sluggers in the world.

Even so, some have been hesitant to name him among the all-time greats, as his constant injuries have kept him on the shelf way more often than one would like.

deGrom Is The Best Ever, Says Arrieta

That's not the case with Jake Arrieta. In a recent appearance in Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take, the former Cubs ace went as far as to say that Jacob deGrom is the best pitcher to ever lace them up:

“Oh, I mean, it’s such an easy question," Arrieta said. "If everybody on the planet doesn’t say Jacob DeGrom they’re not… know what I’m saying? I’ve told people this for a couple of years, I think he’s the best starting pitcher to ever put on the uniform."The Game Needs deGrom

Arrieta admitted that deGrom's health issues are a big concern, yet he doubled down on his take and talked about how much the game needs him:

“If he can stay healthy. Right? And him and Scherzer are on the IL currently which is such a shame. So our game needs both of those guys, but most importantly, DeGrom," Arrieta sentenced. "If you get to watch him in person and (see) what he’s able to do with the baseball. It blows you away. NBA Rumors: Al Horford To Nets In Proposed Three-Team Trade Involving Celtics & Knicks

The 2022 NBA Playoffs may have just started, but several crazy trade ideas involving some title contenders have already started surfacing on the web. These include a hypothetical blockbuster deal that would enable the Boston Celtics to dump Al Horford's massive contract to the Brooklyn Nets this summer. The proposed blockbuster trade won't only be between the Celtics and the Nets, but it would also involve the New York Knicks.

In the suggested three-way trade scenario by James Piercey of NBA Analysis Network, the Nets would get Horford, the Celtics would receive Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, and Day'Ron Sharpe, and the Knicks would acquire Joe Harris and Nic Claxton.

Nets Get A Floor-Spacing Center

Targeting Horford in the 2022 NBA offseason would make sense for the Nets, especially if they intend to keep Ben Simmons on their roster.

"It may be a long shot. The Nets are paying a hefty sum to acquire Horford here. On the other hand, the 35-year-old could make them unstoppable. He’s a tidy fit alongside Ben Simmons as a floor-spacing big man, and he strengthens a defense in need of strengthening," Piercey wrote.

With Horford manning the starting center position, there will be enough floor spacing for Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant even when Simmons is also on the court.

Not A No-Brainer Deal For Nets

Horford would be an intriguing addition to the Nets. At 35, he remains a very reliable contributor on both ends of the floor. This season, he's averaging 10.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.3 blocks while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from beyond the arc.

However, despite what he can contribute to their team, the Nets would definitely think twice before making the trade. Aside from Horford's age and massive contract, it remains unknown if the Nets are willing to give up a young and promising big man like Claxton in the potential trade.

Celtics Save Money

The proposed three-way deal would be worth exploring for the Celtics. Though Horford is currently establishing an impressive performance, the Celtics won't mind dumping his salary since they still have Robert Williams III. Williams may not be a floor spacer, but he's a solid two-way contributor. Before he suffered a knee injury, Williams was posting incredible numbers as the Celtics' starting center, averaging 10.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks while shooting 73.6 percent from the field.

Aside from getting rid of Horford's lucrative contract, the suggested trade would also enable the Celtics to add two solid veteran role players in Noel and Burks and a talented prospect that they could develop in Sharpe.

Knicks Address Floor-Spacing & Frontcourt Issue

The Knicks may end up being the biggest winner in the proposed three-way deal. By simply trading Burks and Noel, the Knicks would be acquiring two quality rotation pieces in Harris and Claxton. Harris would bring the much-needed improvement to the Knicks in terms of floor spacing, while Claxton would give them a young and promising center that perfectly fits the timeline of RJ Barrett. By landing Claxton, the Knicks would no longer be pressured to overpay Mitchell Robinson in the 2022 NBA free agency.

Experts Respond To Peter Thiel's Attacks On Bitcoin 'Enemies'

Controversial billionaire Peter Thiel recently made waves when he named a number of prominent figures as "enemies" of Bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency in the world.

An ardent backer of Bitcoin and blockchain technology, Thiel argued that some older investors are refusing to get with the times and thus holding back modern technologies.

Experts are now weighing in on Thiel's comments.

What Thiel Said

Here's what Thiel said, as reported by Business Insider.

Speaking at the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami, Florida, Thiel took aim at investor Warren Buffet, JPMorgan chief executive Jamie Dimon, and BlackRock chairman Larry Fink.

He slammed Buffet as Bitcoin's "enemy No. 1" and called him a "sociopathic grandpa from Omaha."

Thiel then attacked Dimon and Fink as members of a "finance gerontocracy."

Budd White, cofounder and chief product officer of Tacen, said that crypto is booming because the world is not "hanging onto the words of old school investors."

As you may know by now, striking gold in the Draft is way easier said than done, as scouting isn't an exact science and there are countless intangibles that can lead a player to failure or success.

That's especially true in the first couple of rounds. More often than not, players who were supposed to be stars wind up being busts, while six-rounders end up becoming legends. This time, the Green Bay Packers hope that won't be the case with them and the 22nd overall pick.

Packers Need More Weapons

Matt LaFleur's offense just lost two of its most important pieces. The Packers traded away Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling left to join the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency.

And, while they haven't exactly been high on drafting skill players in the first couple of rounds, it's clear that they need to fill in those voids in the Draft now that they don't have that much cap space. With that in mind, let's take a look at the 3 top players they could target.

3. Jameson Williams

If it wasn't for an ACL injury, Jameson Williams wouldn't be available at the 22nd spot. He's coming off an impressive career at both Ohio State and Alabama and showed glimpses of being an elite route-runner and a perennial deep-ball threat.

Williams doesn't need to haul in that many targets to put in big numbers. He's physically built to fill in for Valdes-Scantling and could make an immediate impact on a vertical offense like LaFleur's.

Despite his worrisome injury, he's expected to be a full go for the start of the 2022 NFL season.

2. Chris Olave

The Packers have been linked with Chris Olave for quite some time now, but so has been half of the league.

Olave became a fan favorite with the Buckeyes thanks to his elite route-running skills, agility, and change of pace. He can turn the corner in the blink of an eye and is one of the fastest wideouts in his class.

While his ability to produce is unquestioned, some still think of him as a boom-or-bust pick at this point.

While Treylon Burks isn't the speedster Williams or Olave are, he's by far the most intimidating physical specimen of the three.

Two Yankees Remain Unvaccinated

According to a recent report, two players are still unvaccinated and only have a couple of days to meet Canada's requirements to play against the Toronto Blue Jays:

"Two Yankees players remained unvaccinated against COVID-19 with about two days remaining left to fulfill Canada’s laws for eligibility to enter the country and play in a series against the division-rival Blue Jays in Toronto that starts May 2," reported Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of The New York Post.They Have 9 Games Up North This Year

MLB players aren't exempt from Canada's laws, meaning that they could be shorthanded when they visit one of the toughest rivals in the division:

"In order to meet Canada’s requirement, a player or staff member must have received either the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine or gotten both shots of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines at least two weeks prior to arriving in Canada," the report added. "The Yankees presumably will travel to Toronto on May 1 after their afternoon game at Kansas City. NFL News: 49ers Told Trey Lance He'll Be The Starter

It's the dawn of a new era for the San Francisco 49ers. They've flirted with a Super Bowl ring for way too long and it became clear at some point that Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't the right guy to lead them to the promised land.

So, following a year lurking in the shadows, it seems like Trey Lance is finally ready to take over and lead the way at Levi's Stadium.

Teams Have Doubts About Garoppolo's Health

Needless to say, that means that Jimmy G should head out the door. Nonetheless, given his recent shoulder injury, the few teams that were interested in him have been wary about making a run:

"The market hasn't been overly hot right now, largely because of Garoppolo's shoulder surgery. Teams don't know when he'll be able to throw; it might be later in the summer. And so, can he pass a physical? These are questions that teams are sort of asking right now," reported Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Panthers Are Keeping An Eye On Jimmy G

Even so, the Carolina Panthers continue to be a potential destination for Jimmy, as they're looking to get an upgrade over Sam Darnold:

"We mentioned the Panthers earlier in relation to [Baker Mayfield]; they've done their homework on Garoppolo too," Fowler added. "They've looked at all options, and Garoppolo is one. So that's something to watch for down the road."Niners Are In No Rush

Jimmy G is set to make $26 million, so there's no wonder why the Niners would love to move him right away. Even so, they're in no rush of getting a deal done and won't take a penny on the dollar on him:

"Right now, San Francisco is prepared to hold on to that $26 million salary, at least as a placeholder for now," added the report. "They believe they can do all of their business with draft picks and free agents until they sort all of this out."Lance Is Their Starter

Even so, the Niners have made it clear to Trey Lance that he'll be the starter going forward:

"Meanwhile, Trey Lance has been working out in the Bay Area. I'm told that he's got indications, at least informal indications from the team, that he'll be the guy next year. He's set to be that. Now, whether that means that they would still keep Garoppolo and that could change the dynamic, possibly. But right now, Lance is going to be the starter," Fowler concluded.

Lance showed glimpses of great play on limited snaps in his rookie year but it was clear that he was still raw and a work in progress. Now, he'll have a lot of pressure on his shoulders if he struggles early on and Jimmy G is sitting on the bench.

Biden's Mask Mandate For Travel Struck Down By Federal Judge

Most states in America lifted their mask mandates long ago, but President Joe Biden's administration last week extended a mask mandate for airplanes and transit for 15 days.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) implemented the policy -- which applied to airports and train stations -- amid a new nationwide surge in coronavirus cases.

On Monday, Biden's order was struck down by a federal judge in Florida.

Judge's Decision

In her 59-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle likened the mandate to "detention and quarantine," as reported by CNN.

Per the mandate, travelers are "forcibly removed from their airplane seats, denied board at the bus steps, and turned away at the train station doors," Mizelle wrote.

"As a result, the Mask Mandate is best understood not as sanitation, but as an exercise of the CDC's power to conditionally release individuals to travel despite concerns that they may spread a communicable disease (and to detain or partially quarantine those who refuse)."Read More Below

Mizelle also argued that "the power to conditionally release and detain is ordinarily limited to individuals entering the United States from a foreign country."

The mandate, Mizelle stressed, does not follow proper rulemaking since it "applies to all travelers regardless of their origins or destinations and makes no attempt to sort based on their health."

It remains unclear if the Department of Justice will file an appeal or block the judge's ruling.

Biden's Mandate

The mandate was imposed amid a surge in cases and as the Biden administration sought to gather more information about the new BA.2 variant of the coronavirus.

Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy explained at the time that "we bring a lot of people together in a closed setting for a prolonged period of time, and not everyone has the option to not travel."

"Because it's not necessarily an optional setting for people and because, again, folks are together for a long period of time, that's why the CDC has leaned into being cautious there and recommending that people continue to wear those masks," he said.

How Effective Are Mask Mandates?

But just how effective are mask mandates when it comes to slowing down the spread of COVID-19?

A study published this year in the journal Health Affairs examined the effectiveness of mask mandates in 394 counties between March 21 and October 20, 2020.

It found that the daily incidence of cases per 100,000 people in masked countries declined by 23 percent at four weeks, compared with unmasked counties, and by 33 percent at six weeks.

The authors wrote that "masking mandates conferred benefit in reducing community case incidence during an early period of the COVID-19 pandemic."

Kim Kardashian wished her older sister Kourtney a happy birthday as she turns 43 on April 18 in a series of pictures from throwbacks to recent shots. The internet photos feature the sisters in matching cobalt swimsuits from Kim's newly launched SKIMS Swim capsule collection.

While the world slept and some woke up dreading Tax day, Kim shared a sweet message alongside the twinning picture on her Instagram feed thanking her older sister for her love and support through the years and sharing in her newfound happiness.

Kim's Sweet Tribute"Each year around the sun with you I learn and grow and evolve more because of you!” wrote Kim. “Thank you for teaching me to always go for it and follow my heart even if no one else understands. Whereas Kourtney wore a low-cut one-piece suit, Kim chose the U-neckline top and biker short combo, but they still twinned with their wet black hairs. Kim's had a center part and reached her waist, while Kourtney's was the signature sleeked back neck-length style.

The Kardashians Making Changes

Kourtey replied,

"I love you so much! We keep growing and evolving and learning together!"

The sisters experienced significant life changes in the past six months, from Kim finalizing her divorce to Kourtney getting engaged for the first time to Travis Barker. Kourtney's happiness has been another discussion topic with Kardashian fans who noticed the 43-year-old's new bubbly persona since her engagement. Khloe also mentioned it in her birthday tribute, saying,

"I’ve never seen you so happy. Your happiness is to the point that other people start foolishly smiling simply because they feel this incredible energy radiating off of you. It looks great on you boo."

Barker's message to his future wife was short and sweet,

"My best friend, my lover, my everything. Happy Birthday [Kourtney] I love you ♾"'Late Nite Snack'

As for Kim, she's also been glowing since she announced her relationship with SNL comedian Pete Davidson. The couple went on a date night after the premiere of Kim's new reality TV show - The Kardashians, on HULU. The post, which now has 11 million likes, shows the business mogul in a close embrace with her 29-year-old boo in what she captioned, "Late Nite Snack."

Spreading Positivity

One thing is sure, Kourtney and Kim are mentally in a good place right now, and Khloe is looking to tap some of that positivity into her life.
