Xander Schauffele is not with the rest of his Ryder Cup teammates this week in Napa, California, in the unofficial tune-up event ahead of the biannual event later this month.
Turns out, he has a pretty valid excuse for missing the Procore Championship.
Schauffele told The on Tuesday that he is back home in Florida with his wife, Maya, who recently gave birth to their new son, Victor.
Schauffele won twice on the PGA Tour in 2024, first at the PGA Championship and then again at the British Open. He didn't miss a single cut on Tour last season and had three top 10 finishes — including at both the Masters and the British Open — though he didn't win an event. He's currently at No. 3 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and was one of six golfers to automatically earn a spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team this fall.
Schauffele is one of just two members of the U.S. Ryder Cup team that is not playing in the Procore Championship at the Silverado Resort in northern California. Bryson DeChambeau is also not in the field, though not by choice. As DeChambeau left the Tour for LIV Golf, he's still not eligible to participate in Tour events. DeChambeau was pushing the Tour to allow him an exception to participate, though the Tour didn't budge.
"That's up to the Tour and their decision to make," he said last month, via Sports Illustrated. "It's on them if they don't let us [come] together as a team and play … It's a scenario that's unfortunate, and I wish it was different, but LIV's willing to let me play."
DeChambeau is the only LIV Golf member on the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
The Procore Championship, which is the first of the Tour's FedExCup Fall events, will start on Thursday. Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, who won five times last season, is the massive favorite. The Ryder Cup will open on July 26 from Bethpage Black in New York.
