Tom Brady is facing backlash after making a cryptic comment during the Cowboys-Bears game on Sept. 21
"Kick the dog, throw the helmet, whatever it takes," Brady said as George Pickens appeared upset on the Cowboys sidelines
Fans quickly called out the comment on social media
Tom Brady raised some eyebrows with an inscrutable comment during the Fox Sports broadcast on Sunday, Sept. 21.
As Dallas wide receiver George Pickens looked visibly upset on the sidelines during the fourth quarter of the Cowboys-Chicago Bears game, Brady offered up the controversial commentary.
"Those helmets can be ... it's like the dog at home," Brady said. "Kick the dog, throw the helmet, whatever it takes."
The comment didn't earn a reaction from Brady's broadcast partner Kevin Burkhardt, but fans quickly took to social media to call out the former quarterback. One user called the comment "disgraceful" and said his remark "encourages others to" abuse animals.

"Did Tom Brady just insinuate to kick a dog with that comment?," one post on X asked, while another person shared the clip and wrote, "What an odd thing to say."
The future Hall of Fame quarterback is now in his second season as an analyst on Fox Sports after a rocky and "awkward" debut on the network in September 2024.

Last week, in addition to his broadcast gig, Brady announced he's coming out of retirement a third time — sort of.
The father of three announced on Sept. 15 that he's competing in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic — a global flag football event scheduled to take place at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to a press release, the event, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2026, will feature three teams of eight players competing in a round-robin tournament, with the top two teams advancing to a championship match.
In addition to Brady, other confirmed players include Rob Gronkowski, Odell Beckham Jr., Tyreek Hill, Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, CeeDee Lamb, Sauce Gardner, Myles Garrett, Brock Bowers and Maxx Crosby.
Actor and comedian Kevin Hart will host the event, lived streamed on Tubi and broadcast on Fox Sports, with Pete Carroll, Sean Payton and Kyle Shanahan serving as coaches.
