Chris Pratt's Mario is going to space!
The sequel to 2023's *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* is officially titled *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie*, Nintendo announced during a Friday Nintendo Direct livestream.
As the name suggests, the new entry, coming to theaters on April 3, 2026, will be inspired by the *Super Mario Galaxy* video games, which send the mustachioed Mario off through the cosmos.
"What kinds of adventures do you think Mario and his friends will have in space?" Shigeru Miyamoto, the film producer and game director at Nintendo, said during the livestream. "This movie will be the main event of the *Super Mario Bros.* 40th anniversary."

A teaser accompanied the announcement, showing Mario taking a catnap against the trunk of a tree in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Pratt will reprise his role from the first animated movie, as will Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek).
Additional characters and voice cast will be announced at a later date, but as the post-credits scene to *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* heavily hinted, we can expect a Yoshi to pop up in some capacity.

The first movie, which earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide, follows brother plumbers Mario and Luigi from Brooklyn through a portal to a magical world. They then must help Princess Peach save the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser.
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, screenwriter Matthew Fogel, and composer Brian Tyler are also back for the sequel.
"While the *Super Mario Galaxy* games are the *core* inspiration for our story, this next film holds surprises for fans of every Mario era," producer and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri said in the Nintendo Direct.**
