A spokesperson for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry confirmed to PEOPLE that 6-year-old Prince Archie is not enrolled at Eton College and that there are no plans for him to attend

The Duke of Sussex has expressed interest in bringing Archie and Princess Lilibet to the U.K. following his recent trip to his home country

His reunion with his father, King Charles, earlier this month sparked speculation about potential future visits

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's spokesperson is firmly denying reports that the couple plans to send their son, Prince Archie, to school in the U.K.

On Sept. 24, the spokesperson dismissed claims that Harry had registered Archie at Eton College, his own alma mater near Windsor, England.

"I can confirm that the Duke has not put his son's name down for Eton and has no plans to send his son there," the spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

The clarification comes after a Daily Beast report circulated over the weekend claiming that Harry had registered Archie at Eton, a boarding school widely expected to welcome Prince George next year. A separate report in the Daily Mail claimed Harry had discussed with a friend his interest in sending his children to school in the U.K.

Meghan, 44, and Harry, 41, are raising their children — Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — in California following their decision to step back from royal duties in 2020.

Harry has expressed a desire to bring his children to the U.K. in the near future. Speaking to The Guardian during a recent trip to Ukraine, which came shortly after his reunion with his father, King Charles, in London, he said, "Yes I would. This week has definitely brought that closer," when asked about taking Archie and Lilibet to his native England, despite ongoing security concerns.

Even if there are no plans for Archie to attend Eton, Harry still has an appreciation for schooling in the U.K. Reuniting with singer Joss Stone at the WellChild Awards earlier this month, the prince discussed the quality of British schools with her and praised the importance of community for children.

Stone, whose family recently moved back to the U.K. after living in the U.S., recalled the conversation, telling Hello! magazine: "He also asked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home. He's just very warm and down to earth, as always. Maybe Harry will move back too. That would be nice."

"He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children," the singer added. "It was nice to share that with him because it's exactly why we felt drawn to come back – for the kids to grow up surrounded by family, friends and a strong sense of belonging and most importantly in a safe environment."

Both Harry and his brother, Prince William, are Eton graduates. Founded in 1440 by King Henry VI, the elite all-boys boarding school is located near Windsor Castle, in the shadow of the royal family's historic grounds.

At just 6 years old, Prince Archie is still several years away from the age at which he could theoretically enroll, as the independent school caters to boys aged 13 to 18.

However, Eton has reportedly been earmarked for another young member of the British royal family: Archie's cousin, Prince George, 12.

Prince George will age out of Lambrook, the school he currently attends, next summer when he turns 13 and for most royal watchers, Eton is the bet for where he'll attend next.
