Ole Miss is reportedly preparing to play without quarterback Austin Simmons for a second straight week.

According to ESPN, it's "unlikely" that Simmons will be able to start for the No. 13 Rebels against Tulane on Saturday. Simmons suffered a left ankle injury in Ole Miss' Week 2 win over Kentucky.

Ferris State transfer Trinidad Chambliss started in Ole Miss' Week 3 win over Arkansas and played well. Chambliss was 21-of-29 passing for 353 yards and a TD while also rushing 15 times for 62 yards and two scores.

Simmons was the backup quarterback in Week 3 and appeared for a play after Chambliss was forced to leave the game with a bloody hand. Simmons threw a 4-yard TD on the play, but aggravated the ankle injury.

Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin had expressed optimism earlier in the week that Simmons would be able to start.

Simmons is in his first year as the team's starter following Jaxson Dart's departure to the NFL. He's 34-of-56 passing for 580 yards and has thrown four TDs and four interceptions. He's also rushed 16 times for 69 yards and a score.

Tulane is 3-0 after wins over Northwestern, South Alabama and Duke. The Green Wave are one of the top contenders to be the non-power conference representative in the College Football Playoff and a win over Ole Miss would go a long way to making the Green Wave the American Conference's playoff favorite ahead of conference play.

Ole Miss is in the midst of four straight home games after that trip to Kentucky. The Rebels host No. 3 LSU in Week 5 before Washington State visits on Oct. 11.
