Kansas head men's basketball coach Bill Self says he has been given a clean bill of health, a few weeks after undergoing his second heart surgery in three years.

On Friday, Self told Jeff Goodman of Field of 68 that he has returned to the office on a daily basis and is ready to welcome his players for the upcoming season

The school announced on July 24 that Self had undergone a heart procedure where two stents were inserted. The 62-year-old coach was admitted to the hospital after experiencing "concerning symptoms."

"I don't have any restrictions coaching," Self told Goodman, adding that he has been able to play golf. Kansas basketball players will return to the school in around 10 days.

Just got off the phone with Kansas coach Bill Self after his health scare a couple weeks ago in which he underwent a heart catheterization and had two stents placed for blocked arteries: Self said he received a clean bill of health from the doctors, has been back in the office…

Self was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Kansas' campus over two weeks ago after not feeling well, but was later released following the surgery. Per the school, the procedure went smoothly and Self was expected to make a full recovery.

The surgery marks Self's second procedure on his heart in the past three years. In 2023, similar to this most recent procedure, Self underwent a catheterization and had two stents put in to treat blocked arteries. He missed the Big 12 tournament and NCAA tournament as a result of the procedure.

Self returned to the program April 5, 2023, saying that he had missed the team and that he had taken the incident as a wake-up call in terms of improving his health.

Self has been the head coach of the Jayhawks since 2003, leading the team to two NCAA championships and holding a 624-156 overall record across 22 seasons. However, last season left a bit to be desired for Kansas, as the Jayhawks tumbled from No. 1 in the preseason with several significant losses before suffering their first opening-round loss in the NCAA tournament since 2006.

Kansas will tip-off the 2025-2026 preseason with an exhibition at Louisville on Oct. 24, before hosting an exhibition against Fort Hays State (Kansas) on Oct. 28. The Jayhawks' home opener will take place on Nov. 3, against Green Bay.
