Davidson began dating Turnt actress Hewitt eight months after his split from Outer Banks actress Madelyn Cline. Meanwhile, Hewitt was most recently linked to actor Jason Sudeikis, per Page Six.

The comedian opened up about his desire to start a family during an appearance on Kevin Hart's talk show, Hart to Heart, back in 2022.

"My favorite thing ever, which I'm yet to achieve, is I wanna have a kid," Davidson said, adding that becoming a dad is his "dream."

"It's super corny, but it would be so fun to dress up a little dude," he continued. "I'm so excited for that chapter so that's kind of what I'm just preparing for now, is trying to be like good as a dude and develop and get better so when that happens it's just easier."

Police find 'nothing unusual' at scene of Annabelle doll handler's death

-

 • Police find 'nothing unusual' at scene of Annabelle doll handler's death

Jonathan Limehouse, USA TODAYJuly 16, 2025 at 8:42 PM

Pennsylvania State Police have released new information concerning the death of Dan Rivera, a paranormal investigator known for leading nationwide tours with the allegedly haunted doll, Annabelle.

In a report shared on Wednesday, July 16, via X by Trooper Megan Frazer, officers wrote that Rivera was found in his hotel room by his coworkers on Sunday, July 13, in the Gettysburg area, located in central Pennsylvania. He and the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) were in the area as part of the organization's ongoing "Devils on the Run Tour," which featured the Annabelle doll.

Police said in the report that "nothing unusual or suspicious" was observed in Rivera's hotel room at the time of his death. The case is pending autopsy results, according to the law enforcement agency.

In a statement emailed to USA TODAY late Tuesday, July 15, NESPR said it is "devastated" by Rivera's death, which it called a "profound loss."

"Dan was not only a vital part of our team for over a decade, but also a deeply compassionate, loyal, and dedicated friend," the statement reads.

Pictured is Dan Rivera, a 54-year-old paranormal investigator who died in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on on Sunday, July 13, 2025.Who was Dan Rivera?

A U.S. Army veteran, Rivera "served both his country and the people around him," according to NESPR's statement.

"His integrity, creativity, and generosity defined him," the statement continues. "Dan's passion for the paranormal was rooted in a genuine desire to educate, help, and connect with others − whether through social media, conventions, or investigations with local families seeking understanding and peace."

With famed paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren as his mentor, Rivera would become a "constant presence" at local events, such as An Evening with Annabelle, NESPR said. As Warren's health declined, Rivera "remained by her side" and offered a "steady hand and unwavering support" before she died at the age of 92 in 2019.

"Dan's strong faith was a guiding light in his life," NESPR's statement reads. "He never wavered in his belief in God and often spoke about the spiritual side of the work we do. We find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him."

NESPR also referred to Rivera as a "father, devoted husband, and loyal friend."

Dan Rivera, Senior Lead Investigator of the New England Society for Paranormal Research, speaks to visitors before they view the original Annabelle doll, an infamous and supposedly haunted doll which inspired 'The Conjuring' film series, on display inside of the Soldiers Orphanage Homestead as part of the 'Devils on the Run' tour, Saturday, July 12, 2025, in Gettysburg Borough. What is Annabelle?

Although made popular by the 2013 film "The Conjuring," Annabelle's origins date back to the 1970s when a mom gave her daughter, Donna, a 28-year-old nursing student, the doll she'd bought from a hobby store, according to the NESPR.

When the doll was in Donna's possession, she and her roommate, Angie, purportedly noticed weird paranormal activity occurring around the apartment, which began to escalate.

The legend behind the doll suggests that paranormal activity worsened, and that Annabelle was possessed by something "demonic and inhuman," NESPR said. The doll was eventually handed over to Ed and Lorraine Warren, who became famous for collecting paranormal objects and artifacts.

Annabelle was subsequently put on display in the Warren's occult museum, which was in Monroe, Connecticut.

No, the Annabelle tours are not ending, with NESPR and the doll scheduled to visit Rock Island, Illinois, in October, according to the Shreveport Times, part of the USA TODAY Network.

In NESPR's statement, the organization said, "As we navigate the days ahead, we want to share that although we do not know what the future of NESPR will look like without Dan, we do plan to move forward with the events previously scheduled for this year."

"We believe with all our hearts that Dan would have wanted the work to continue—bringing people together, sharing knowledge, and honoring the memory of Ed & Lorraine Warren. We will carry his spirit with us in everything we do," the statement continued.

Nebraska sues neighboring Colorado over how much water it's drawing from the South Platte River

Jim Pillen taking part in a panel discussion, Nov. 16, 2022, in Orlando, Fla., Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser speaking during an interview with The , Nov. 21, 2024, in Philadelphia and State Sen. Mike Hilgers, of Lincoln, speaking during a debate in Lincoln, Neb., April 3, 2018. (AP Photo/Phelan M. Ebenhack, Matt Slocum, Nati Harnik, file) ()

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska is suing Colorado over the amount of water it draws from the South Platte River, the latest in a long history of water rights disputes between the states that have been left increasingly dry by climate change.

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen and state Attorney General Mike Hilgers held a news conference Wednesday to announce the lawsuit, which was filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.

"It's crystal clear. Colorado has been holding water back from Nebraska for almost 100 years and getting more and more egregious every single day," Pillen said, pointing to Colorado's rapidly expanding population over the past decade.

"So today it's really, really simple: We're here to put our gloves on," Pillen said. "We're going to fight like heck. We're going to get every drop of water."

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser called the lawsuit "unfortunate" in a written statement and said Nebraska officials failed "to look for reasonable solutions."

The lawsuit accuses Colorado of depriving Nebraska of as much as 1.3 million acre-feet (about 160,350 hectare-meters) of water from the river over several years that Nebraska is entitled to under a 1923 compact between the states. The suit also accuses Colorado officials of blocking Nebraska's effort to construct a massive canal — often called the Perkins County Canal — and reservoir project that would see Nebraska seize land in Colorado to divert water into Nebraska, which is also allowed under the compact.

Nebraska needs the water not only for agriculture production in its southwestern region — which climate experts predict will grow hotter and drier in the coming decades — but also to feed water supplies in the eastern part of the state, officials said. Nebraska's capital, Lincoln, is expected to get 12% of its water from the proposed canal, Pillen said.

The compact entitles Nebraska to 120 cubic feet (3.4 cubic meters) per second from the river during the irrigation season between April 1 and Oct. 15 each year, and 500 cubic feet (about 14 cubic meters) per second during the non-irrigation fall and winter months. Hilgers said Colorado has been shortchanging Nebraska during the irrigation season, allowing only about 75 cubic feet (about 2 cubic meters) per second of water daily into Nebraska this summer.

"I think this may be the most consequential lawsuit that this office will be a part of in my generation," Hilgers said. "It is almost impossible to overstate the importance of the South Platte River to the future of the state of Nebraska."

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis issued a statement calling the lawsuit meritless and denied that Colorado had violated the compact.

The South Platte, which flows through northeastern Colorado into southwestern Nebraska, has been at the center of a tempest brewing between the two states going back to 2022, when Nebraska announced it would build the canal.

Since then, officials from the two states have been haggling over how to carry out both the terms of the compact and land acquisition to build the canal.

Hilgers said the two states are at an impasse. Weiser countered that Nebraska officials should have remained at the negotiating table.

"Nebraska's actions will force Colorado water users to build additional new projects to lessen the impact of the proposed Perkins County Canal," he said. "When the dust finally settles, likely over a billion dollars will have been spent — tens of millions of that on litigation alone — and no one in Nebraska or Colorado will be better off."

The lawsuit was filed directly with the Supreme Court because it handles disputes between states, Hilgers said. The process "isn't fast," he warned.

"We'll probably have a special master appointed within the next 12 months, and under normal litigation timelines, that's maybe 3 to 5 years before we get a result," he said.

That does not mean work on the canal will stop, he said, as he expects work on permitting and design of the canal to continue.

Nebraska has been at the center of interstate water disputes for decades. In 2002, Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas reached a settlement over Republican River water allocation after years of legal wrangling. But disputes continued, and new agreements were reached among the states again in 2014.

Water disputes could become more common as climate change worsens shortages, said Dr. Carly Phillips, a research scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists — a nonprofit that advocates for climate change solutions.

Warmer temperatures affect multiple parts of the hydrological cycle, Phillips said. It is decreasing the snowpack, which is the main way water is stored in the western U.S. Higher temperatures also mean the snow melts earlier each year, changing the availability of stream flow. And states like Nebraska might see increased irrigation demand when it's hotter.

"These patterns are all in the same direction across the board," Phillips said. "The trends are really consistent when it comes to snowpack, stream flow, evaporation and irrigation demand."

Millions want to own but can't: What's being done to address the housing crisis?

-

July 16, 2025 at 9:56 PM

A for sale is displayed outside a home. (Mike Stewart/AP)

Despite a strong desire to own homes, millions of Americans are still renting. So, what initiatives is Washington implementing to help make homeownership a reality?

One significant barrier to homebuying remains high interest rates. President Trump has intensified his criticism of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell in recent weeks.

"Jerome Powell has been very bad for our country," Trump recently stated. "We should have the lowest interest rate on earth."

The Federal Reserve last cut rates in December. In contrast, Europe has seen eight interest rate cuts over the past year.

RELATED STORY | Finding starter homes: More on the market, but expensive as ever

With another Fed meeting approaching at the month's end, Powell attributes the ongoing pause to uncertainty surrounding Trump's tariff policy. While Trump hasn't directly attempted to fire Powell, he has mentioned that Powell's term ends in May 2024 and has hinted at naming a successor who may align more closely with his administration's views.

Credit scores also play a role in homebuying policies. Earlier this month, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac introduced a new policy considering potential buyers' rent payment history, which could assist those looking to enter the housing market.

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Scott Turner acknowledged the ongoing housing crunch. In a recent interview with the Scripps News Group, he expressed his commitment to reducing regulations to promote the construction of affordable homes.

"Taking down regulations is of utmost importance," he said.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT | Trump rips Fed Chair Powell during White House meeting with Bahrain's crown prince

However, not all legislative measures have eased housing costs. The National Association of Homebuilders has warned that tariffs could inflate the expense of home construction. Still, Republicans in Congress are optimistic that the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill will provide some relief.

While the new legislation does not offer down payment assistance, it does make permanent a deduction on mortgage interest and reinstates a deduction for certain private homeowners insurance policies. Homeowners will also benefit from a heightened deduction for state and local property taxes.

Bill Conners, a first-time homebuyer from heavily taxed Southern California, expressed optimism about the changes. "This bill has actually made it a lot easier for people to afford a house," he said.

King's ransom: What a LeBron James trade out of LA could look like

-

 • King's ransom: What a LeBron James trade out of LA could look like

Jeff Zillgitt and Lorenzo Reyes, USA TODAY July 16, 2025 at 11:54 PM

The expectation is that NBA superstar LeBron James begins the 2025-26 season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

But is that the team he finishes the season with? If he starts the season with the Lakers, could he be moved at the trade deadline?

James has had a usual offseason – for the first time in his career, the team he plays for was not clamoring for his return or making a commitment beyond next season. He's 40 years old, so in theory that makes sense. But he's also not your typical 40-year-old hanging onto a career.

He was an All-NBA performer in 2024-25.

These are unusual times in the NBA as teams navigate a restrictive and punitive CBA and plan for a future – a future that sooner or later does not include James. His recent foray onto the golf course suggests retirement could be on his mind more than it ever has before.

But, as his agent and Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul said, James still wants to compete for a title. So his playing days are not over. It's just for whom he'll be playing that is atop NBA discussion.

How would a LeBron James trade even work?

A lot will depend on the shape the 2025-26 season takes for the Lakers and any other potential James destinations. If Los Angeles struggles, it could opt to become sellers prior to the February 2026 trade deadline as the Lakers plan to build a future around Luka Dončić. Still, because James has a no-trade clause in his contract, the team would need to accommodate and cater to James' wishes.

James, though, has been a player who, historically, has fiercely protected his own self interests. And if at some point he deems the Lakers as a failing operation, he could be the one to request a trade.

In that event, because James carries that no-trade clause, the Lakers would then ask James for a short list of preferred destinations where he would waive the no-trade clause. Once the list of preferred destinations – which could theoretically be just a single squad – is established, the Lakers would then enter possible negotiations with those teams. If terms favorable for both sides are agreed upon, then James would be on his way.

There are two very important things to note, however. James is arguably the most calculated player in NBA history. Acutely aware of what a trade would mean for his legacy, James would feasibly make the decision to request a trade only if it improved his chances to win another title and if he could further his legacy and agenda. It's logical to assume that Bronny James, his son and teammate in Los Angeles, would also be part of any deal.

It's also important to note that the Lakers are under no obligation to trade James. Though they might want to do right by him, given his star power and stature within the NBA, the priority for Los Angeles is to advance its own interests for the future.

Possible LeBron James trade fitsDallas Mavericks

Cooper Flagg and LeBron James hug after a practice session for USA Basketball at the team's training camp at the Mendenhall Center at UNLV in Las Vegas on July 7, 2024.

This would be an interesting pairing in that James would be joining a pair of high-profile former teammates in Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving (who is expected to miss some time as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament). It also presents an excellent chance for No. 1 overall selection Cooper Flagg to join one of the game's all-time greats. The Mavericks would need to get creative with their roster construction to make it work, but – assuming health – adding James would make the Mavs an interesting team in a very crowded Western Conference.

Miami Heat

During an Instagram live video in February 2024, a fan asked James if he missed Miami. James' wife, Savannah James – who was off-camera – said "yes" and then added "I miss the city." And although there were reports that James held disagreements with Heat coach Erik Spoelstra during his time with the team, the two have worked closely together with Team USA and any tensions seem to have been put to rest. Some of James' best seasons came in Miami under Spoelstra, who encouraged James to be a distributor. Now, alongside Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Norman Powell, the Heat would get some much-needed offense with James.

New York Knicks

Of all the options, this one might be the most tangibly different one. The Knicks, however, would satisfy James playing in a massive market. And in New York, James would be reuniting with coach Mike Brown, who coached James in Cleveland from 2005-10. James would also bring leadership and basketball IQ to a team that made its first conference championship in 25 seasons. In a wide open East, James could be the piece that puts the Knicks over the top.

Los Angeles Clippers

For this one, the James family wouldn't be moving far at all. They have built their life in Los Angeles, and playing games at the Intuit Dome would offer some comfort and familiarity. On the court, there would also be a great deal of familiarity; Clippers coach Tyronn Lue was the Cavaliers coach when James and Cleveland won the 2016 NBA Finals. And, when paired with James Harden and Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers would have three stars – albeit in the twilight of their careers – who would make L.A.'s offense difficult to stop, particularly in the clutch.

Golden State Warriors

LeBron and Steph. Steph and LeBron. We got a taste of that pairing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and it would be entertaining to watch those two try to bring Golden State another title. The Warriors have made their timeline to win another title clear with Curry's contract, which runs through 2026-27. LeBron James and Bronny James for Jimmy Butler?

Cleveland Cavaliers

Finishing his career where he started it and where he led the Cavaliers to their only NBA championship is a storybook ending. Maybe not the same Hollywood tale as wrapping up his career in Los Angeles, but it's still a riveting cinematic arc. This, though, is also complicated given Cleveland's trajectory with the current roster and who it would have to give up to make this trade work for a season or two with James. Do the Cavs want this? Does James?

Los Angeles Lakers

By now, you understand the difficulties of trading James, and if the Lakers still want to compete for a championship in the spring of 2026, having James is better than not having James. But that might not be their objective either. Maybe they'd like to accelerate their timeline in a future without James. Yet, the Lakers are not in control of that because of James' no-trade clause. The scenario that makes the most sense for both sides is to play out the season with James and Dončić and see what happens, and re-evaluate where each wants to be next summer.

Possible LeBron James trades

Could LeBron James actually be on the move?

Fire up the trade machine!

Using the model on Spotrac.com, here are a couple of potential frameworks for trades that would work, at least on financial terms. But the point remains that trading James and his salary would be complicated and would take complex salary cap machinations – with the inclusion of a third or fourth team possible.
