Stock image of a family argument.

A woman asked the internet if she acted the right way around her soon-to-be in-laws

Her partner's parents told her that she should "quit working and be a stay-at-home mom"

The woman asked for financial protection from the family if she were to quit her job

Dealing with in-laws can be hard enough without mixing finances.

In a recent Reddit post, a 27-year-old woman shared that her "fiance's parents are loaded. Old money loaded."

While she earns over $170,000 a year, her fiancé, a teacher, "doesn't make as much" but has a trust fund from his family.

"Recently, I had a weird conversation with him and his folks," the woman shared. "They think that after the wedding, I should quit working and be a stay-at-home mom. I thought they were joking and kind of laughed. They are perfectly serious. They think it's emasculating that I earn more than him."

Although she will make more than her fiancé over the course of her career, she pointed out that "his trust fund is low seven figures," and money won't be an issue.

Getty Stock Images

Stock photo of two women working through financial documents

"He could afford to pay me what I earn yearly but he can't due to the stipulations of his trust," she added. "His mom on the other hand has lots of interest built up in her trust."

She noted that she doesn't want to quit her job without any protections and "offered a solution [she] thought was fair."

She suggested "they set up an unrecoverable trust" for her. "They must contribute my gross earnings yearly with bumps for anticipated raises and promotions. The deposits would be for the next 35 years That [way] I'm a stay at home mom, my fiancé is the breadwinner, and I'm protected in the case of a divorce."

However, the family went "nuts" at the suggestion and told her she was "ridiculous for thinking they will give [her] money."

Getty

Stock image of a person figuring out finances.

So, she offered another "compromise."

"I sign a prenup wherein I am entitled to half of [my fiancé's] trust fund in the case of divorce if I give up my career," she suggested.

However, her idea was "also not acceptable to them."

"I'm kind of at a loss. Do they honestly think I would give up my career with zero safety net?" she wondered.

While the poster's mother says she's "being rude putting everything in such stark monetary terms," the woman believes she's "being reasonable," which most commenters agreed with.

"They are asking you to give up financial security for him, but don't want him to risk anything in return. You are 27, making $170,000 a year, you are obviously good at what you're doing and have put the work in," one commenter wrote.

"This is the time that your fiancé should be standing up for you and shutting his family down; his response here should tell you everything you about your future marriage. Don't do it, protect your future first."

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter turned up the heat during her third "Cowboy Carter" concert in Atlanta, surprising fans with another Jay-Z cameo, debuting red-hot new looks, hitting viral dances and letting her children steal hearts once again.

The Grammy-winning singer kicked off her July 13 show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta around 8:29 p.m. local time. The concert marked her third of four shows at the stadium on her Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour. She's set to hit the stage again July 14.

Before Beyoncé took the stage, some fans in the crowd started a wave, setting the tone for the high energy that would carry through the night.

"Hello!" Beyoncé said as she opened the show. "I want to say thank you for your loyalty for so many years. If this is your first time experiencing these shows, welcome."

Jay-Z joins Beyoncé again during tour at Atlanta concert: 'Give it up for my man'

The ATL tour stop – Bey's last Southern stop – comes after Beyoncé delivered two dazzling concerts at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, five miles east of Washington, D.C. The first show fell on the Fourth of July, with the follow-up performance taking place July 7. The holiday only underscored her messages and motifs pertaining to country music, America's complex past and its ongoing cultural reckoning.

Beyoncé first debuted her tour at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28 with 39 songs on the set list. Her shows have been filled with family, fashion, different music genres, and most notably country music and cultural commentary. Sunday's show delivered all of that, plus a few standout moments of its own.

Jay-Z returns to the stage with Beyoncé at third Atlanta show

Beyoncé shocked the lively crowd when she welcomed husband Jay-Z to the stage as they sang their 2003 song, "Crazy in Love." He followed it up with his 2003 anthem, "Public Service Announcement."

The surprise appearance marked the second time Jay-Z has joined Beyoncé on her "Cowboy Carter" tour – after first making a surprise cameo in Paris on June 22 – and his first time doing so in the U.S. The couple even shared a kiss on stage. And with Jay-Z's surprise appearance came the return of two fan-favorite tracks from Beyoncé's 2013 self-titled album: "Partition" and "Drunk in Love."

Beyoncé debut debuts new looks during night 3 in Atlanta

During her performance of "Alliigator Tears," Beyoncé debuted a brand new look: a red bedazzled mini dress, matching thigh-high, sparkly boots and a sparkling red cowboy hat. And the new cowboy couture looks didn't stop there.

Beyoncé also unveiled another striking ensemble during "Desert Eagle," a fresh addition to her ever-evolving cowboy couture wardrobe. The outfit featured a red furry coat layered over a bedazzled bodysuit, paired with thigh-high boots and a matching red cowboy hat.

And fans were thoroughly impressed by all the wardrobe changes online, with one fan saying the "new red alligator tears look chews."

Beyoncé's 8-year-old daughter Rumi tells the crowd 'I love you'

Beyoncé and Jay-Z's 8-year-old daughter, Rumi Carter, has been a highlight of the tour. She first stole the hearts of fans with her vibrant stage presence, excitedly waving at the crowd as Beyoncé performed "Protector." Since then, fans have eagerly waited to see her take the stage each night.

During Sunday's show, Rumi made sure to return the love, mouthing "I love you" to fans in the crowd.

Beyoncé joins in on the viral 'Whim Whamiee' dance

Another fun moment for fans came when Beyoncé hit the viral "innit" dance on Sunday, taking after her two daughters who took the dance moves to the stage at an earlier Atlanta show.

Indeed, Glassdoor to lay off 1,300 workers as AI shakes up job searches

Indeed and Glassdoor, the job search and employee review firms, are slashing a total of roughly 1,300 jobs as their parent company, Japan's Recruit Holdings, embraces artificial intelligence.

In an email to employees Thursday, Recruit Holdings CEO Hisayuki "Deko" Idekoba said that "AI is changing the world" and that the company must adapt accordingly. The layoffs represent about 6% of Recruit Holdings' HR technology workforce.

The cuts will target the companies' research and development, as well as "people & sustainability," teams in the U.S., but other areas and regions will also be affected, according to Recruit Holdings. The company will send notices to employees who are losing their jobs on Thursday.

The move reflects Recruit Holdings' focus on using AI to transform how job-seekers look for work and how employers handle recruitment. As part of that effort, the company will fold Glassdoor operations into Indeed, the company told CBS MoneyWatch. Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong is stepping down.

"[W]hen we think about HR industry, which is $300 billion-plus industry, but it includes like 60% or 65% of human labor manual cost. It's very difficult to find that big industry with such a high percentage of human labor manual cost," Idekoba said in May at a JPMorgan Chase technology conference. "And so what we believe is, basically, how can we simplify hiring with using AI and technology and data to reduce manual work. That's what we are focusing on."

He added that about one-third of the company's new programming code is written by AI, and that he expects that figure to jump to one-half. "It's going to be 50% pretty soon," he said.

The layoffs come as corporate leaders tout AI's capabilities, while some experts warn that the technology could lead to job losses. Speaking in June at the the Aspen Ideas Festival, for example, Ford CEO Jim Farley said AI is likely to replace half of all white-collar workers in the U.S.

Sen. Lindsey Graham says "a turning point, regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine, is coming"

Starbucks reveals

 • Starbucks reveals "secret" drinks as it tries to lure back customers

Starbucks' "secret" menu is no longer hidden from the public.

The coffee chain on Monday introduced previously hidden offerings for Starbucks rewards members in its mobile app. The menu allows customers with rewards accounts to access popular drink combinations that fans have concocted, that are not listed on its regular menu.

Starbucks is offering four new drinks via its app: Cookies on top; a dragonfruit "glow-up"; lemon, tea and popping "pearls"; and a white mocha shaken espresso. Letting customers order the special drinks with the click of a button streamlines the experience for both customers and baristas, a Starbucks spokesperson told CBS MoneyWatch. Starbucks will also be introducing new drink combinations regularly, the spokesperson said.

The move is part of CEO Brian Niccol's efforts to win back customers and revive Starbucks' brand. The promotion comes after the company in February simplified its menu offerings as it tries to improve customer service.

To drum up interest in the secret menu, Starbucks is also hosting a contest, which runs from July 14 to July 20, for customers to submit and vote on their favorite customized beverages.

"Submit your best Grande custom drink and we'll see how it stacks up based on taste, creativity and fan appeal," Starbucks said on its website. Winners are eligible for up to $25,000 in prize money.

Starbucks last month also changed how its charges for drink add-ons like syrups and match powder, charging a flat fee of 80 cents for any combination of sauces and syrups, including additional pumps. Previously, customers could face different charges for different flavors.

Niccol is trying to boost Starbucks' growth by streamlining operations and making ordering and paying for drinks more transparent and straightforward. As part of that effort, the company said earlier this year it would lay off 1,500 workers.

Sen. Lindsey Graham says "a turning point, regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine, is coming"

Kremlin says weapons and ammunition deliveries to Ukraine from U.S. are continuing

 • Kremlin says weapons and ammunition deliveries to Ukraine from U.S. are continuing

July 14, 2025 at 11:28 AM

MOSCOW (Reuters) -The Kremlin said on Monday that the big picture of U.S. President Donald Trump remarks about supplying Patriot air defence missiles to Ukraine was that U.S. arms and ammunition deliveries to Kyiv have continued and are still continuing.

Trump did not say how many Patriots he plans to send to Ukraine, but he said the United States would be reimbursed for their cost by the European Union.

"Now it seems that these supplies will be paid for by Europe, some will be paid for, some will not," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked about Trump's words.

"The fact remains that the supply of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment from the United States continued and continues to Ukraine."

Trump is expected to announce a new plan to arm Ukraine with offensive weapons in a sharp departure from his earlier stance, Axios reported on Sunday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

Peskov said that Kyiv was obviously in no hurry on the third round of peace talks, adding that Russia was ready for them and awaiting clarity on the timing from Ukraine.

Storm tracker: System could bring heavy rain to Florida, Gulf Coast in coming days

 • Storm tracker: System could bring heavy rain to Florida, Gulf Coast in coming days

Gabe Hauari, USA TODAY July 14, 2025 at 8:13 PM

The National Hurricane Center said on Monday, July 14, it is keeping tabs on a trough of low pressure located off the Atlantic coast of northern Florida that could bring heavy rainfall to the area, in addition to some Gulf Coast states.

Hurricane center forecasters said the trough is currently producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms across portions of Florida, the northwestern Bahamas and adjacent Atlantic waters.

"The system is expected to move westward across Florida during the next day or so, and into the northeastern Gulf by late Tuesday," the hurricane center said July 14, noting that environmental conditions appear "favorable enough to support some gradual development" of the system.

"Regardless of development, heavy rainfall could produce localized flash flooding over portions of Florida and the north-central Gulf coast through the middle to latter portion of this week," hurricane forecasters said.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1 and will last through the end of November.

Active hurricane weather typically peaks between mid-August and mid-October.

Atlantic storm tracker

This forecast track shows the most likely path of the center of the storm. It does not illustrate the full width of the storm or its impacts, and the center of the storm is likely to travel outside the cone up to 33% of the time.

How do hurricanes form?

Hurricanes are born in the tropics, above warm water. Clusters of thunderstorms can develop over the ocean when water temperatures exceed 80 degrees Fahrenheit. If conditions are right, the clusters swirl into a storm known as a tropical wave or tropical depression.

A tropical depression becomes a named tropical storm once its sustained wind speeds reaches 39 miles per hour. When its winds reach 74 mph, the storm officially becomes a hurricane.

Prepare now for hurricanes

Delaying potentially life-saving preparations could mean waiting until it's too late. "Get your disaster supplies while the shelves are still stocked, and get that insurance checkup early, as flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period," NOAA recommends.

Develop an evacuation plan: If you are at risk from hurricanes, you need an evacuation plan. Now is the time to begin planning where you would go and how you would get there.

Assemble disaster supplies: Whether you're evacuating or sheltering-in-place, you're going to need supplies not just to get through the storm but for the potentially lengthy aftermath, NOAA said.

Get an insurance checkup and document your possessions: Contact your insurance company or agent now and ask for an insurance check-up to make sure you have enough insurance to repair or even replace your home and/or belongings. Remember, home and renters insurance doesn't cover flooding, so you'll need a separate policy for it. Flood insurance is available through your company, agent, or the National Flood Insurance Program. Act now, as flood insurance requires a 30-day waiting period.

Create a family communication plan: NOAA said to take the time now to write down your hurricane plan, and share it with your family. Determine family meeting places, and make sure to include an out-of-town location in case of evacuation.

Strengthen your home: Now is the time to improve your home's ability to withstand hurricane impacts. Trim trees; install storm shutters, accordion shutters, and/or impact glass; seal outside wall openings.
