PEOPLE can exclusively confirm that the actress, 46, is engaged to investor Austin Sosa.

A source tells PEOPLE: "She is very close with his family and was staying with his parents after she moved out of her Los Angeles apartment earlier this year."

On Monday, July 7, the White Chicks actress was spotted with a new diamond ring on her left ring finger as she was leaving Sally Hershberger Salon in West Hollywood, Calif.
King has sparingly posted about her now-fiancé. Sosa, who is private on social media, is an investment banker who graduated from Brigham Young University, according to his LinkedIn profile.

One of the actress' few posts that mentions Sosa includes a photo of her and her sons, Leo, 9, and James, 11, and then mentions Sosa in the caption.

"My God, I am the luckiest and most great mother ever. Thank you to Pammy, Chase, Austin, Gwendolyn and Carlos. Family forever 🎀💅🏻💯💗," she wrote.

King shares her two boys with her ex-husband Kyle Newman. The former couple tied the knot in 2007. The Hart of Dixie alum filed for divorce from Newman, 47, in May 2020 after 13 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in September 2023.

In March 2025, Newman was granted sole physical custody of their sons. In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, a judge ordered that while Newman and King will share legal custody of their sons, Newman was granted tie-breaking authority over legal custody and will have sole physical custody of their kids.

Additionally, in April 2024, King filed an emergency request to change their spousal and child support agreement, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. King alleged that she "lacks the ability to pay the support" and asked for the court to end the spousal support agreement the couple filed in April 2022.

In response to King's filing, Newman responded and filed his own claim, alleging that the actress had "been out of compliance with the court's child and spousal support orders for well over a year."

Newman also alleged that King refused to "sign a judgment" based on their divorce settlement and noted that she cannot "rescind" a court order as she claimed to have done.

Minnesota state senator injured in lawmaker shootings released from hospital, reports say

Thao Nguyen, USA TODAY July 8, 2025 at 10:05 PM

Minnesota state Sen. John Hoffman has been discharged from the hospital, multiple reports say, after being shot nine times by a gunman who is also suspected of killing another lawmaker and their spouse in June.

Hoffman was released from a hospital intensive care unit and moved to a rehabilitation facility, his family said in a statement to multiple news organizations on July 7. Hoffman's family also shared a photo of the senator smiling and giving a thumbs-up while standing in front of a hospital room with a suitcase.

"John has been moved to a rehab facility, but still has a long road to recovery ahead," the family said in the statement, according to the , CNN, and MPR News.

A spokesperson for the Hoffman family did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment on July 8.

In the pre-dawn hours of June 14, a person posed as a law enforcement officer to gain access to the victims' homes in the Minneapolis area. Authorities said the person, later identified as Vance Boelter, 57, shot Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, multiple times and left them seriously injured inside their home.

Authorities also accused Boelter of going to the homes of another state legislator and an elected official in a vehicle that was fitted to resemble a police squad car. He was unable to make contact with the two officials and then went to the home of state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark.

Boelter then killed both of them and gravely injured their dog, according to authorities. Officials have called the attack a targeted "political assassination."

Minnesota lawmaker shootings: Suspect's wife says she was 'completely blindsided'

What happened to Minnesota state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife?

At around 2 a.m. local time on June 14, Boelter drove to the Hoffmans' house in Champlin, about 20 miles northwest of Minneapolis, according to a 20-page affidavit filed in federal court. He had altered his black SUV with emergency lights and a fake license plate to resemble a police squad car, the affidavit states.

Video footage from the Hoffmans' home showed Boelter approaching the door while wearing a disguise that included a black tactical vest, a flashlight, and a flesh-colored mask that covered his entire head, according to the affidavit. He knocked on the door and shouted repeatedly, "This is the police. Open the door," the affidavit states.

Either John and Yvette Hoffman came to the door, and Boelter told them he was there in response to a report of shooting inside the house, according to the affidavit. After a short exchange, Yvette Hoffman got a better look at Boelter and realized he was wearing a mask.

Upon realizing this, the affidavit states that "one or both of the Hoffmans" told Boelter he was not a real police officer. In response, Boelter said: "This is a robbery," according to the affidavit.

Yvette Hoffman later told authorities that her husband tried to push Boelter back through the front door, but Boelter shot him multiple times before turning his gun on her, the affidavit states. At about 2:06 a.m., the Hoffmans' adult daughter called 911 to report that her parents had been shot by a masked gunman.

Shooting suspect faces federal, state charges

Investigators have said Boelter "extensively researched" and planned the June 14 attack. He allegedly compiled a list of mostly Democratic state lawmakers and their addresses, and purchased a cache of weapons, according to the affidavit.

Boelter was arrested on the night of June 15 following an intense manhunt and remains in custody without bail. He is facing state and federal charges in connection with the attacks, including multiple counts of murder and stalking.

Authorities have not provided a motive, but Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has said the shooting "appears to be a politically motivated assassination." Officials across the country have also decried the incident, calling it an act of political violence targeting elected officials.

Prosecutors said Boelter's killings amount to a "political assassination" and he could face the death penalty if he's convicted on federal charges for shootings. While Minnesota abolished the death penalty over a century ago, the federal murder charges carry a maximum penalty of capital punishment.

South Korea's former President Yoon to attend hearing on detention warrant

July 8, 2025 at 10:37 PM

SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korea's former President Yoon Suk Yeol will appear on Wednesday at a Seoul court, which will consider a special prosecutor's request to detain him as part of a probe into his botched bid to impose martial law.

The Seoul Central District Court will hear from the special counsel team investigating Yoon's martial law decree in December and Yoon's legal team on the request to detain the deposed president over allegations of abuse of power and obstruction of justice.

After the hearing, Yoon is expected to await the court's decision at the Seoul Detention Center, or in a detention area within the court, the special prosecutor's team has said.

There has been tight security around the court, which is expected to announce a decision late on Wednesday or in the early hours of Thursday.

Yoon was ousted in April by the Constitutional Court, which upheld his impeachment by parliament for his martial law bid that shocked South Koreans and triggered months of political turmoil, entrenching already deep divisions in the country.

The former conservative president is already under a criminal trial on charges that his attempt to rule the country using martial law amounted to an insurrection, a charge that is punishable by a life sentence or even death.

But the probe has picked up pace since the special prosecution began its investigation after liberal President Lee Jae Myung was elected in June and has been looking at additional charges, including accusations Yoon mobilised presidential guards to stop authorities from arresting him in January.

He was previously taken into custody over the earlier criminal probe but was released from jail after 52 days on technical grounds.

The detention warrant request was made on the grounds of him being a flight risk and concerns that he might interfere with witnesses linked to his case, local media reported, citing the special prosecutors' request.

If Yoon is detained, he is expected to be held at the Seoul Detention Center, and the special prosecution is expected to speed up a probe into additional allegations including whether Yoon hurt South Korea's interests by intentionally inflaming tensions with North Korea.

Yoon's lawyers have rejected all the allegations against him, saying the detention warrant request is unreasonable and the investigation lacks objective evidence.

Woman loses arm at Australian zoo after lion 'inexplicably' attacks her

Fernando Cervantes Jr., USA TODAYJuly 8, 2025 at 3:25 PM

A woman lost her arm over the weekend after she was attacked by a lion inside a zoo in Australia.

According to a news release from the Darling Downs Zoo in Queensland, a 50-year-old woman was watching animal keepers working in the zoo's carnivore precinct on the morning of July 6.

"This is something that she has done many, many times over the past 20 years. She is well versed in safety protocols around potentially dangerous animals," the statement said.

But, according to the zoo, the lion "inexplicably" began to attack the woman, grabbing her by one arm, causing severe damage to it. In a later post on Monday, July 7, the zoo wrote that the woman lost her arm.

"At no stage did this animal leave its enclosure and there was no risk at all to staff members or members of the public," according to the zoo's post, adding that the woman was not in the animal's enclosure.

The woman is in a stable condition after being airlifted to a hospital in Brisbane, where she was operated on, the zoo said.

Woman was a 'much loved member' of zoo's family

The zoo said the woman was not a staff member, keeper or visitor, but instead a "much loved member" of the zoo's family. According to the zoo, they are working with police and other officials to investigate the incident and said that the "lioness" will not be put down or punished in any way.

"Police and Workplace Health and Safety personnel are investigating this incident and have been onsite all morning," the zoo said. "The zoo is working with them to establish how this incident occurred, but the full details will not be known until our family member can be interviewed."

The zoo reopened at 9 a.m. local time on Tuesday, July 8.

A father and two children in Lincoln, New Mexico, were washed away in flood waters on Tuesday, the National Weather Service reported after declaring a flash flooding emergency in the area.

Multiple rescue missions were underway at Gavilan Trailer Park in Ruidoso, and another person was also trapped in high water, the NWS said in its local storm report at 5:50 p.m. ET.

"Homes starting to be moved by water," the NWS said.

Images from the U.S. Geological Survey posted to the Albuquerque NWS social media account show a river in Lincoln County, the Rio Ruidoso, rapidly rising 15 feet in about an hour. "Stay away from the river! Seek higher ground NOW!" the weather service wrote.

According to the USGS's real-time data, water levels at the 30-mile-long river located about 150 miles southeast of Albuquerque were "extremely above" its historic daily averages on Tuesday evening.

Another 30 minutes later and it's hard to tell where the riverbed is. The river is now in major flood stage at over 15 feet. Stay away from the river! Seek higher ground NOW! #nmwx pic.twitter.com/gd3ecndelG
