The biggest and best meteor shower of 2024 is upon us - but NASA officials have warned Americans they'll need to leave the city to catch it properly. The Perseid meteor shower, which will peak at midnight Sunday into Monday morning, is expected to produce between 50 and 75 shooting stars per hour. But the US space agency warned that if you live in an urban area, light pollution could seriously dim the cosmic show.

Chiume died at the Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday, Aug. 6, following a "period of illness," her family said in a statement posted on her Instagram page. "Her children would like to express their deep appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff who provided exceptional care during her stay," the statement read. A crocodile expert and former BBC zoologist who filmed himself raping and torturing dogs has been jailed for more than 10 years in Australia for what a judge condemned as 'inconceivable depravity'. Adam Robert Corden Britton was sentenced in Darwin Supreme Court on Thursday having pleaded guilty to 56 offences related to the torture and sexual exploitation of more than 42 dogs on his rural property. The 53-year-old, who was born in West Yorkshire and earned a PhD in zoology from Bristol University before emigrating to Australia, was sentenced to 10 years and five months with a non-parole period of six years, backdated to his April 2022 arrest.

Hollywood actor Gabriel Olds has been arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of rape. The 52-year-old was charged with seven felony counts of sexual assault on July 19 after several women came forward with horrific stories of consensual dates turned violent. The alleged crimes were said to have happened from 2013 all the way up to 2023, KTLA reported. A graduate of Yale University, the women accused Olds, best known for playing a young Pat Robertson in the Oscar-winning film The Eyes of Tammy Faye, of using his Ivy League status combined with the cachet of being a Hollywood actor to get them into a vulnerable position.
