Some *Saturday Night Live* sketches bomb and others become Hall of Famers. But according to Amy Poehler, only one was so bad that it literally put its host to sleep.

While reuniting with fellow *SNL* alum Kate McKinnon, Poehler delved into the subject of sketches that just don't work — and without naming names, had a pretty embarrassing story to pull from.

"Did you ever go on the server and watch sketches that bombed?" she asked McKinnon on Tuesday's episode of her *Good Hang* podcast. "Do you kind of like it when sketches bomb a little bit? We used to go and watch our sketches from dress [rehearsal] that bombed and just watch it together, process it together. And it was just, like, such a nice feeling. Basically, just a reminder that everybody bombs, basically."

McKinnon, already laughing at the memory of this, nodded. "There were a few hits that we would watch over and over again," she admitted. "There was one rehearsal where a person — I won't say who — simply stopped doing the sketch and sat down on the stage. That was a fun watch."

This sparked a memory for Poehler, who could relate. "We had a host, I won't say who, who just halfway through just kinda fell asleep a little bit," she said with a smile. "This was during dress, and it was like, 'Okay, I guess his character's asleep now.'"

Poehler couldn't agree more. Earlier this month, the *SNL* alum celebrated a full-circle moment, hosting the show for the first time in over a decade on the very evening that marked *SNL*'s 50th anniversary. Fun as it was, Poehler told McKinnon that part of her still wanted to be participating as a cast member.

"I kept being like, 'What are you guys doing over there?' Like, I kept wanting to be over there," she recalled.

Both Poehler and McKinnon had standout runs on *SNL*, with Poehler starring on the show from 2001 to 2008, while McKinnon joined in 2012 and stuck around until 2022. Though their tenures as cast members did not overlap, they have shared the stage in studio 8H several times. Poehler hosted the show in 2015 and the alums both participated in the show's 50th anniversary special. Their conversation saw Poehler praise McKinnon for her run on the show, pointing out that she quickly found her place in the fabric of *SNL*.

"There are people on that show that I felt were naturals. Now whether or not they felt natural is their own personal story," Poehler said. "But you, Maya Rudolph, Dana Carvey, Will Ferrell — people who just kind of came onto the show, fit right in and became, like, instant captains. I always felt that from you, just this calm confidence when you were performing. And it's interesting to know that inside you were not feeling that way."

Indeed, McKinnon confirmed that "there were plenty of desperate failures that haunt me even now," but added that her time on *SNL* remains a dream come true.

"I feel like I had one dream. It was *SNL*," McKinnon shared. "Did it. Done. Loved it. Awesome."

For Chris O'Donnell, getting cast on *9-1-1: Nashville* meant more than just a new gig.

The *NCIS: Los Angeles *alum has long appreciated the work of first responders, but to play firefighter Don Hart on the ABC spinoff earlier this year came at incredibly significant timing.

"I live in the Palisades, my town had just burned to the ground," O'Donnell tells *,* referencing the wildfires that burned almost 25,000 acres of the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in the greater Los Angeles area in January.

"We were very fortunate," the actor continues. "Our house was one of a couple hundred that were spared in Pacific Palisades after 5,000 burned to the ground. We feel so fortunate and so grateful to everybody that was out there fighting it. I mean, it's, there are lots of things you can complain about in life, but it's certainly not the first responders that are out there protecting all of us and fighting for us to keep us safe."

Though his home was spared, the fires — for which Uber driver Jonathan Rinderknecht was charged for starting the blaze earlier this month — completely devastated O'Donnell's community, so the chance to "get out of L.A." and film in Nashville was "almost too good to be true," says the actor.

"I think the whole nation really had a completely different appreciation for them after Sept. 11," O'Donnell adds of the respect for firefighters. "But it's something that starts when you're young. I remember being a kid and going up to the firehouse was one of the biggest thrills of all time. And when our kids were little, you are having birthday parties and seeing if you could get the firemen to stop by with the truck. I mean, who didn't have the dream of being a firefighter at some point? I mean, it's amazing."

The actor found himself channeling that childhood excitement when training with real firefighters ahead of filming *9-1-1: Nashville*.

"It's a lot to digest," he says with a laugh. "Boy, they have a lot of equipment. I don't know how these guys do it. I think about the guys climbing up the towers on 9/11. There's so much gear and these suits and the boots and the helmets and the stuff they're carrying. And it's hot — they're extreme heat — and it's incredible. And all just the heavy machinery, the trucks and the ladders, and the knowledge they have of the different types of fires…. It's like they're doctors."

"We've been really fortunate to have a lot of the local [firefighters] working as extras," he continues. "Some of them are almost kind of regulars. The fire chief was just by yesterday. It's fun, and it changes everything. Every time I see a firetruck go by, or I pass a fire station, I'm so curious now what's the dynamic in there, and what does their station look like inside and their firehouse?"

*Days of Our Lives* star Suzanne Rogers has opened up about her cancer diagnosis.

The soap opera veteran, who has spent more than five decades playing farm girl–turned–shrewd businesswoman Maggie Horton, recently revealed her cancer battle during a conversation with TV Insider. Rogers, 82, learned the news earlier this year upon realizing that something "wasn't quite right" with her body. After a series of tests, including an MRI, a PET scan, and a biopsy, the actress was diagnosed with stage 2 colorectal cancer.

"[My doctor] said, 'You have cancer and you have to start treatment.' It was all a shock," Rogers recalled. "I think I was in a shock for several days because I take pretty good care of myself. But he said, 'It's a good thing you caught it in time.'"

After wrapping shooting on *Days* in June, Rogers began a treatment plan that entailed daily radiation and chemo every day for six weeks. The actress noted that the show taking a summer hiatus worked in her favor, since she didn't have to be conspicuously absent from set. But while she kept the battle private from her fans, Rogers leaned on her* Days of Our Lives* family for support.

"It was scary," she said. "When I had to go see a doctor, one of [my costars] would go with me because you get to a point where once they say cancer, you don't hear anything else."

Rogers said she felt especially supported by Linsey Godfrey, who plays her onscreen daughter, Sarah Horton, a cancer survivor who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at 18.

"I had to have an infusion, and it takes about an hour and a half, so Linsey sat there with me and held my hand while I was having it," Rogers recalled. "We would go out to lunch or dinner with Paul Telfer [who plays Xander Kiriakis] and Linsey's daughter, Aleda. I knew I could count on them, so it was a lovely experience on and off the set. We really feel like a family."

Rogers completed treatment on July 31 and is now preparing for her return to set.

A spokesperson for* Days of Our Lives *assured* * that her absence from the show will be minimal. "We are delighted that Suzanne has come through this challenge with her trademark grace and strength," the spokesperson said. "Fans will be glad to know that Maggie will remain a constant presence in Salem."

Rogers, who is the longest-running actor on an American soap, said she is "feeling really good" about her return to the show. Though she is coping with some nerves, she said it's the same anxiety she feels "any time I get scripts because I want to do my very best," clarifying that it has nothing to do with her illness.

Elsewhere in her interview with TV Insider, Rogers assured fans that they have nothing to worry about when it comes to Maggie's signature red locks. "I didn't lose my hair," she said. "I guess because I was taking the chemo pills. I'm sure there'll be people that are saying, 'Well, she didn't really have cancer,' but you know what? I really don't care what people say. I know what I've gone through, and I've come out on the other side, so that's all I care about."

Rogers went on to express some relief over finally sharing her struggle and diagnosis, noting that she's well aware that her absence has sparked speculation about her future on the daytime soap.

"My sister, who checks in with me two or three times a day, said there's been some things on Facebook that said that I had retired and I had left the show," she said. "None of that is true. I don't want to upset anybody, but I want them to know what's going on."

Indeed, rumors had been swirling about Rogers' potential retirement, but a spokesperson for *Days of Our Lives* shut down the speculation this past summer.

"This could not be further from the truth," a representative for the show told EW in July. "Maggie and Suzanne are integral to the show's history, present storylines, and now, on the heels of our pickup, the future! Neither are going anywhere."

Rogers has been a core member of the *Days of Our Lives *cast since 1973, when she first appeared as a farm girl recovering from a car accident that killed her parents. Maggie has come a long way since then, overcoming paralysis, addiction, and even her own "murder" over the course of Rogers' 52 years on the show. The character's struggles with sobriety helped Rogers earn a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1979.

The most recent season saw Maggie helping her daughter Sarah pick up the pieces of her life after an acrimonious divorce from Xander. *Days of Our Lives*, which originally premiered in 1965, is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary this November. Earlier this year, Peacock announced that *Days* has been picked up for two more seasons.**

Elaine Hendrix is gearing up for her return to the *Dancing With the Stars* ballroom after being carried out of rehearsals on a stretcher with a rib injury on Tuesday.

The *Parent Trap *star posted a video to her Instagram page on Wednesday, which showed her alongside pro partner Alan Bersten.

"Hi everyone, doing a check-in to let you know that I'm doing okay," Hendrix began in the video. "I am up and about, I'm tender, I am sore, but I am starting pain management today."

"I'm not dancing today, I'm not dancing tomorrow," Hendrix continued as Bersten nodded in encouragement. "We'll be back at it Friday. And I'm just getting ready to be in that ballroom next Tuesday."

Bersten chimed in, sharing the pair's gratitude for their fans' fervent support during Hendrix's hospitalization.

"We just wanted to say thank you so much for voting for us, and show so much love to Elaine and the support," he said. "We can feel it and we appreciate it so much."

"Yeah, it's palpable," Hendrix gushed. "All of your messages, I'm seeing it all, and I just want you to know that first and foremost, I'm okay, and second of all, I'm ready to go and just thank you so much for all the love and support that you're showing and thank you to the entire Dancing with the Stars team. You're taking such good care of me. So we will see you next Tuesday out on the ballroom."

Bertsten concluded the video with another message of love for the fans, saying, "We love you guys, thank you."

Hendrix previously explained that she injured her ribs during the pair's "Defying Gravity" routine. She and Bersten danced to the climactic song from the hit stage musical and now-Academy Award-nominated film series during last week's "Wicked Night," during which they received a 36 for their efforts.

While Hendrix made a stunning visual recreating the stage musical's showstopping trick of soaring into the air via wires and pullies, the move didn't fare well for her when she came down to Earth.

A video from rehearsals prior to Hendrix's injury showed Hendrix and Bersten working on their Argentine tango for the show's Halloween Night, showing the moment in which "all the sudden, Elaine kind of throws, and she can't move and can't breathe and something happened with her rib," Bersten explained.

The actress was shown wincing in pain before being escorted out of the ballroom on a stretcher into an ambulance.

During Tuesday's live episode, Bersten represented the pair in the ballroom for their *Mad Max: Fury Road-*inspired routine, and they were judged on their rehearsal. All four judges — Cheryl Burke was a guest judge — awarded the duo 8s for a total of 32.

With the pair surviving this week's eliminations, they're set to return to the show next week.

The cast of *Special Forces: World's Toughest Test* is really thinning out.

Having gone into the season with 18 recruits, only eight of them remain. Three left on Thursday's episode, after struggling with all the physical and mental challenges that come along with being part of the Fox reality show.

The first of the three to depart was model Chanel Iman, who struggled as the group walked up a mountain for one of their daunting tasks. When she fell behind the others, she was told by the Directing Staff that she'd better catch up or face having her armband taken from her, which would signal that she was done.

'Special Forces' recruits have faced one grueling task after another.

"I'm going as quick as I can, sir," Iman answered.**

But that wasn't enough. When the group's lead grew even more, Iman was told, "You just lost your team and any chance to stay on this course."

In the same episode, former NFL player Eric Decker was called in to see the medic, after he aggravated a previous injury. He was told what recruits don't want to hear: "I don't think we can really safely let you carry on."**

When he arrived back at the barracks and told his wife what had happened, she said that she wanted to head home with him. "We ride together, we fly together," she said.**

Saturday Night Live's 50th season celebration may have been one big party for some of the show's most iconic figures — but for legendary writer Jim Downey, he admits things went a little awry.

The longtime comedy writer and producer looked back on his SNL50 experience during an appearance on The Tonight Show on Wednesday (Oct. 29) where he revealed that he ended up suffering a pretty intense injury ahead of the weekend.

"I had fallen off the stage at Radio City a few days earlier when I was doing a thing with Bill Murray," Downey explained.

In the hospital, Downey says he was told that he almost lost his eye. Thankfully, it was able to be saved — but he did have to wear an eye patch for some time, including the events the rest of the weekend.

"That was a real eye patch and it was not a Nick Fury kind of thing," Downey said. "So when people were coming up to me all night long going, 'Jesus, the eye patch? Really? It's like Snake Plissken or something.'"

Downey added that everyone quickly changed their tune once he lifted up the eye patch to show them his injury. Since then, Downey appears to have made a full recovery, noticeably not wearing an eye patch during the interview.

During the rest of the show, host Jimmy Fallon recalled some of Downey's most iconic SNL skits which included Patrick Swayze's Chippendales sketch and numerous Weekend Update segments. He also wrote for Dana Carvey when he played George Bush and Will Ferrell when he played George W. Bush.

Downey, who wrote for over 30 seasons of the show, is still the longest tenured writer in the show's history and went on to be a head writer for Late Night with David Letterman.
