Brady is subject to following the “Brady Rules” as a minority owner of an NFL franchise

It remains to be seen whether Tom Brady is in violation of the “Brady Rules” after he made a series of critical comments regarding the officiating in the Lions-Packers game on Sunday.

Brady, who is a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, could be found in violation of the broadcasting agreement, which comes with a $500,000 first-time violation fine. The NFL established the rules due to Brady’s desire to work in the broadcasting booth while also helping to oversee the Raiders.

The Fox Sports lead NFL analyst’s comments came during the NFC North matchup on Sunday, Oct. 25 in which the Lions won, 20-17.

Brady, 49, commented several times on penalties in which both teams incurred.

“Oh come on, man,” Brady said at one point. “[Jordan] Love throws it over the middle. There are linebackers in the middle. [Barnes] is just turning his right shoulder away from it. That’s allowed 99 out of 100 … it’s a bang-bang play. I know in super slow-mo, every little minute frame looks like a lot, but when you’re on the field, you’ve got to pursue that ball.”

He continued, “If [Lloyd] catches it, [Barnes] needs force to knock him on the ground. He needs force to knock that ball out in pass defense. He can’t go in there and put his hand on him.”

On another play in which the Packers were on defense, Brady was seemingly taken aback.

“No, my goodness, what is that? There’s no way,” Brady said on the broadcast. “Brooks on the tackle kind of makes a great play. It’s a bang-bang play. He rolls off his body; it’s a great throw by Goff, that’s definitely not roughing the passer.

He added, “You’re just ripping through the line of scrimmage to try to get the quarterback on the ground. Look, I love [Jared] Goff standing there in the pocket, but you just can’t tack it on 15 yards.”

On the latter point, Fox rules analyst Dean Blandino agreed with the seven-time Super Bowl champ.

“That’s teach-tape tackle,” Blandino said. “That’s not roughing the passer.”

And as the game wound down, Brady was wound up. With a chance to clinch the win, the Lions positioned to kick a field goal.

“If anybody has any heart medication, bring it to the booth for my partner right now,” Brady’s partner Kevin Burkhardt joked.
